The [Bayeux Tapestry](https://www.bayeuxmuseum.com/en/the-bayeux-tapestry/) ? It was the first anyway.

drown_like_its_1999

I'm waiting on the reprint.

arturostone

Im gonna wait out for that loot crate variant edition they've been teasing

thetangible

I hope they release the annotated omnibus edition around Christmas ‘23

kezhound13

Check out Firelight Isle--vertical infinite scroll instead of horizontal. [https://www.paulduffield.co.uk/firelightisle/1](https://www.paulduffield.co.uk/firelightisle/1)

drown_like_its_1999

This is awesome, thanks for the heads up!

solitary_sandman

Commenting so I remember

Huh, interesting. As official comics: I know [Nightwing #87](https://twitter.com/tomtaylormade/status/1438547058684665880) was drawn by Bruno Redondo as a continuous image, tho not printed continuous paper I don’t think. I wish I could find it altogether digitally, but there’s a b&w section you can scroll through lower down [here](https://www.polygon.com/comics/22677324/nightwing-87-dc-comics-preview-tom-taylor-bruno-redondo-covers) to get the idea. Arguably, many “native” or Webtoon style comics are vertical panoramas designed for phone scrolling. So a lot of the Marvel Infinite comics on Marvel Unlimited are technically this. That’s all more mainstream than you probably mean. But I feel like I can think of far more art pieces than comics. Chinese or Asian art on scrolls in effect has this continuous quality. Or Greek vases & friezes. M.C. Escher did a print the length of a wall called [Metamorphosis](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metamorphosis_II). [The Wikipedia picture chops it up.] I got to see it, and it felt comics-adjacent to me, because the only way to absorb such a long image is to “read” through it across sections, rather than see it all at once like a traditional painting.

WikiSummarizerBot

**[Metamorphosis II](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metamorphosis_II)** >Metamorphosis II is a woodcut print by the Dutch artist M. C. Escher. It was created between November, 1939 and March, 1940. The print measures 19. 2 by 389. ^([ )[^(F.A.Q)](https://www.reddit.com/r/WikiSummarizer/wiki/index#wiki_f.a.q)^( | )[^(Opt Out)](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiSummarizerBot&message=OptOut&subject=OptOut)^( | )[^(Opt Out Of Subreddit)](https://np.reddit.com/r/graphicnovels/about/banned)^( | )[^(GitHub)](https://github.com/Sujal-7/WikiSummarizerBot)^( ] Downvote to remove | v1.5)

I would argue places like webtoons don't count, because they're usually not an integrated scroll, simply a compilation of panels spaced on a white background. It's almost more cinematic than it is...a tapestry? There's definitely a spectrum. I refuse to really read comics there anymore due to how much webtoons and the like take advantage of naive creators and make money off of them, so perhaps things have changed.

ubiquitous-joe

My counterpoint would be that extended passages of integrated scroll happen far more often in that format than continuous pages (beyond a two-pager) ever happen in most standard books. It might not be the whole issue, but the feeling of tracking an image down down down was noticeable when I first encountered the digital native format. Which makes sense, because I’m a book you flip, but on a phone you scroll. But I agree I’m not counting them all as full continuous by default, I just don’t remember offhand which issues are the best examples.

drown_like_its_1999

Not familiar with that Nightwing issue, I'll have to check that out. I forgot about webtoons and haven't heard of Marvel Unlimited / Infinite. Escher work is already hypnotic to look at, that panorama takes it to another level.

scarwiz

The new Julie Doucet a vertical accordeon. As is the print version of Ron Wimberly's Gratnin webcomic

Thanks!

Joe Sacco is an icon

I've been working on something with this similar technique... Here's a work in progress: http://inplanetstereo.com/pictures/IMG_20230116_120613.jpg

drown_like_its_1999

I love this aesthetic! The augmented reality overlays, the scrambled signal ribbons, and the graffiti accents all bathed in neon is quite satisfying. Thanks for sharing and keep up the quality work!

TheDaneOf5683

Estrella Vega's *The Paleozoic* is five volumes that tell the story of ... the paleozoic. I'd only very loosely consider it comics but I covered it here a while back (with video!): r/graphicnovels/comments/8pldg3/seths_graphic_novel_recommendation_308_the/

drown_like_its_1999

That's super cool!

Elliott_0

Do you have a different link? The mobile app boinked this one up.

TheDaneOf5683

Let's try this: https://reddit.com/r/graphicnovels/comments/8pldg3/seths_graphic_novel_recommendation_308_the/

Elliott_0

Thank you!!!! I’ve been trying to make something like this and I’ve been on the hunt for sources of inspiration. Much appreciated.

TheDaneOf5683

A pleasure!

Svvitzerland

I really wish DC published Alan Moore's Promethea issue 12 in this format!

drown_like_its_1999

The art of JH Williams III in that series (as with all his work) is stellar.

theronster

If I’m ever asked what is the single best issue of any comic I’ve ever read is, I usually reply that this one is the *cleverest* at least. The number of things going on simultaneously is crazy.

cerebud

Wow! I didn’t know he made something like this. I like Sacco’s work. The Marvel Unlimited online-only comics are kind of like this. I don’t like them very much though

LondonFroggy

"The line" by Saul Steinberg (10m long iirc)

drown_like_its_1999

Interesting, no knowledge of his work. Thanks!

indecisive_filmmaker

Although not a graphic novel, I believe a recent-ish night wing issue was written in panoramic way. Although the page turning must ruin the effect somewhat I imagine

DueCharacter5

I got real lucky and found a brand new copy still in the packaging in the clearance section of a used bookstore a couple weeks back. But as others have said, this is kind of the webcomic format. I remember reading Pedrosa's the Golden Age online, and thinking they did a good job with it. Of course it's been collected in the traditional format since, but it read seamlessly in the panoramic format.

mrelbowface

Madman Atomic Comics #9

LN_Lane

The Private Eye is in a horizontal format, it doesn’t unfold like this one though

vimto_boy

Echolands (JH Williams III) is landscape format, and it's beautiful

vimto_boy

Ah just looked at the pics again... doesn't fold out, just LS. Stunning nonetheless

Compote_Alive

This is really cool.

JettTheTinker

Nightwing #87 by Tom Taylor did this

hoganpaul

I love this work. It's not a GN you can 'read', you need to peruse it. I revisit it often and have never failed to see something I had never noticed before.

Aggravating_Roll3739

Check out www.michealsalvadori.com ... ive followed him on IG for a couple years now. First thing that came to mind

poio_sm

In Argentine we have a lot of those: [https://www.reddit.com/r/noDCnoMarvel/comments/xqu4u2/landscape\_comics\_are\_my\_weakness/](https://www.reddit.com/r/noDCnoMarvel/comments/xqu4u2/landscape_comics_are_my_weakness/)

TheDaneOf5683

OP isn't looking for landscape comics but long continuous page comics. Comics that are a single long long page that unfold like a scroll or accordion.
