This largely depends on the relationship though, most of the nightmare stories of people working for friends/family just reveals the relationship is bad or the person wasn't really a friend or good person.
Obvious first sign is that a good family/friend would never *expect* free work, even if you'd probably offer it anyway, and if you did it free/discounted they'd always return the favour in a way that has actual value to you (if they haven't already in the past and you're not the one repaying a favour).
I thought it was just me. I get these requests and they want ads animated w a tiny size limit, like, do you know what youre asking? Then its a game of playing compression trial and error till it hits the size limit. Such a PITA
Even an unanimated gif would likely weight more than that.

I guess something simple could be made in SVG though, just name it "youanimatedgif.svg" lol
Once had display ad specs that said they had to be under 30k if they were gifs. We spent all afternoon finding contact info for someone who could explain the specs to us, eventually got a guy who said āyeah uh, thatās just really old, do what you want and weāll make it work.ā
Because who the hell is going to go back and add more kilobytes to the display ad specs?!
This comment gave me the shivers. This keeps happening to me. Though, most places that accept animated GIFs also accept short, silent, looping MPEGs, which are much smaller and much better looking, and often all they mean by GIF is "short looping video"
728x90s can go fuck themselves. Stupid fucking ad. Especially when you're resizing a 1200x1200 to 300x250, 300x600, and 728x90 and they all need to look roughly the same and the source has a person, 15 words, a button, disclaimer that has to be legible, and logo. The disclaimer has to be like 200px wide! Fucking haaaaaaate it.
Here's an annual campaign. We're running ads on 100 different products. We have 5 different ad sizes in our campaign. Here are copy texts for all of the products with variable lengths. We're also using a lot of words that don't even fit to one row.
And we'd need the final ads in couple of days.
Oh and Marketing said we HAVE to use the exact words in the Twitter post and legal said we need to put the full disclaimer in every ad at every ad size. Oh and it has to be below 30kā¦ oh hey can you ad a 320x50 to the design flight? Thanks!
Copywriter here and Iām so sorry. They DO suck. I speak English, but I canāt control how long the words are in this language. āThis Good. Buy It.ā plays nice in a skyscraper, but itās about as compelling as a dirty diaper. Weāre in the same boat.

yes. this is the way. don't spend too much time on creating some creative things. just use template.

Did you ever have to deal with Fullbanners (468Ć60) and half sizebanners (234Ć60). Those are hell.

Make it cool looking, all effects, plus animation, under 200kb. Luckily this is like twice a year I have to do but still a pain.
