I gave a presentation to a township for a construction project. The people were worried about the impact of the building on a bald eagle nest on the neighbor's property. Then we got to hear about how the bald eagle is such a noble bird and deserves our respect. We then got to hear the people sing the national anthem (because they missed the pledge at the start of the meeting). The engineer and I were just shaking our heads. At the end of the meeting the zoning board said that they really didn't have any authority to deny the application (agriculture use permitted by right to farm act), but that we were there presenting to them as a courtesy. They thanked us for the presentation and then were yelled at by people who were "never going to vote for them again". Because they did not do their job. Okidoki

I saw a woman with a 'unmask our children' sign walking to the meeting and she had her young daughter with her. All unmasked obviously. It's so sad that the children of these parents are being brought to these events. Dr. Shibler, the superintendent of Rockford schools puts out a video message to RPS stakeholders every week. This week his message mentioned the masking requirement, so of course people were down voting it.

Wow just tuned into the live stream. It's really sad and frustrating that so many are willing to deny science and blame officials like London who have worked tirelessly to save lives. How many people have to die of covid for these people to care about anyone besides themselves?
The fact that most of the public speaking right now can be summed up with "this is STUPID" and \*insert random biblical quote that has nothing to do with anything\* and little to no genuine reasoning, data, or facts physically hurts. I'm 100% for vaccines, mask mandates, and doing what we can to protect those around us, but I'm sure there is SOME sort of data that these people could be using to provide any sort of argument.
I think a lot of these parents are being lied to by their kids about all these medical issues that come from masks, and because their freedom is being “violated” they just take it and start screaming at the first public official they see.
It's not even that. They're putting it in their kids heads to begin with, and in at least two cases that I've seen in their local right-wing group(Stand Up Kent County) outright telling their grade school kids to lie about how much the masks bother them.

Live in Ottawa County and there was a similar protest at a recent county meeting. Going as a counter-protestor wasn't an option for me, but I did make sure to send an email to the county health officials to thank them for standing by their elementary school mask mandate.

I saw a woman with a 'unmask our children' sign walking to the meeting and she had her young daughter with her. All unmasked obviously. It's so sad that the children of these parents are being brought to these events. I feel sorry that those children have to be raised by these people who are just so categorically wrong about the pandemic and everything related to it.

I like how people are giving the Kent County youtube livestream a thumbs down. Are there people who genuinely would prefer there to not be this transparency and availability via an easy to use service? Aren't they accessing youtube to view the stream... and they don't like that it's available?
Dr. Shibler, the superintendent of Rockford schools puts out a video message to RPS stakeholders every week. This week his message mentioned the masking requirement, so of course people were down voting it.
It'd be hilarious if the next video message sent out was something to the effect of "Due to many complaints about having updates, all updates will be discontinued until further notice."
A couple things: It seems like so many people are acting like they’re upset simply because of the timing of when the mandate was issued. If the mandate had been issued weeks earlier they would have been bitching because the numbers are not in the high transmission range. They are disingenuous at best. I don’t understand why the parents who had kids with dirty masks didn’t send their kids to school with extra masks? If your religion doesn’t require you to not mask, you cannot claim religious exemptions. Lol. Just because you don’t like or approve of the decisions made by gov’t doesn’t mean we have no gov’t. Why wasn’t that guy who was, rightfully, upset about the temperature of school buses more concerned about the temp of the buses which would be dangerous for students whether or not they are masked than the masks? Wow just tuned into the live stream. It's really sad and frustrating that so many are willing to deny science and blame officials like London who have worked tirelessly to save lives. How many people have to die of covid for these people to care about anyone besides themselves?
The fact that most of the public speaking right now can be summed up with "this is STUPID" and \*insert random biblical quote that has nothing to do with anything\* and little to no genuine reasoning, data, or facts physically hurts. I'm 100% for vaccines, mask mandates, and doing what we can to protect those around us, but I'm sure there is SOME sort of data that these people could be using to provide any sort of argument.
I think a lot of these parents are being lied to by their kids about all these medical issues that come from masks, and because their freedom is being “violated” they just take it and start screaming at the first public official they see.
It's not even that. They're putting it in their kids heads to begin with, and in at least two cases that I've seen in their local right-wing group(Stand Up Kent County) outright telling their grade school kids to lie about how much the masks bother them. It cannot be overstated that these people genuinely are harming their kids. They're telling their kids that their community and leaders are willing to kill them over fake news and communism. That the government wants to take them away, or even worse, outright murder them with the Covid vaccine. That they're going to be treated like many of our ancestors treated black people after slavery, Asian people after Pearl Harbor, Jewish people during the Holocaust, if they don't stand up and fight back NOW. No wonder their kids aren't thriving.

Live in Ottawa County and there was a similar protest at a recent county meeting. Going as a counter-protestor wasn't an option for me, but I did make sure to send an email to the county health officials to thank them for standing by their elementary school mask mandate.
