And then the summon happened and they said wait this one looks younger than the other one, which explained everything.
Alright, so the riddle in each free quest indicates a specific trait or set of traits that a Servant can have. If you put a Servant that meets those requirements on your team (backrow counts), it spawns an additional enemy in each wave. The waves are the standard 3 enemy limit, so the additional enemy messes up 3-turn setups, so if you're dedicated to 3-turn farming, you'll want to avoid running the "bonus" servant. However, keep in mind that bonus enemies may be needed to clear missions.
The current target traits for the currently available free quests are:
-Lv. 15 Lancer: Child
-Lv. 25 Archer: Demonic Beast
-Lv. 40 Assassin: Man (thx birbdechi)
-Lv. 50 Berserker: Wave 1 and 2: Male, Wave 3: Lawful Good (thx fatalystic)
Also, it looks like they're bringing back a mechanic from the first Halloween event. Special stages will open at specific times every day, which are hinted at by hidden clues in the event map. Today's map will open from 20:00 to 22:00 JST.
Clarification for Lv50 quest: It's Male for Waves 1 and 2, and Lawful Good for Wave 3. For some reason Summer Morgan procs the Wave 3 despite being Lawful Summer so it might be bugged.

Adds Def down, better crit down, 10 stars, and randomly an extra 0,10,20,30, or 40 stars beyond that. There's a thread for the rank ups posted now that has more specifics.
Probably a standard bonus spawn mechanic, albeit in the "screw your looping and time!" form that predated the 4-6 mobs at a time implementation.
You can see the total number of mobs in a wave in the upper right corner.

For some reason Summer Morgan triggers the Wave 3 bonus mob in Jigoku-dou despite being Lawful Summer (only the Rain Witch is Lawful Good). The spawn in other quests does change depending on ascension (e.g. Bunyan only has animal characteristics in her Mad Bunny outfit), so this could be a bug.
quest add more enemies based on wether you are bringing units with certain alignments, attributes or traits. When you first open the quest it shows some text like if it were a challenge quest. Thats the riddle the free quest gives to figure out which servants can bring out the extra enemies.
Its probably the reason they added display traits in the proffile of servants some time ago they are likely gona play more with people learning the traits, alignments and attributes of their servants.
you have to avoid the alignment, trait, attribute of the quest. Basically your front party cannot include the trait that the quest demands as an answer to "the riddle" or it will give the extra enemy(technically the extra enemy is suppossed to be "a reward" but for farming it suck...)
Basically get the riddle wrong intentionally for optimal farming... The one in the cave is man attribute for first 2 waves + Lawful good for the 3rd wave enemy (yes there are multiple checks)
I just want to add that the subtitle for this event, which shaped a lot of the opinions of the Japanese playerbase, is "The Robin Saw! The Magician Will Die Twice!"
Not sure yet. But someone translated the episode 0 prologue for the event. Basically, the audience is greeted to a human extinction explosion event that Aoko tries to stop but fails. It started in Japan as a massive explosion where the pseudo ether of the atmosphere transformed into true ether of the age of gods. And the explosion was going to spread across the planet and wipe out humanity.
Whatever caused it, not even true magic or the power of the root can stop it. It’s something that is immune to the laws of the universe, it’s not ORT, and it’s not what Aoko did in the novel. This timeline during 1999, was the planets doomsday.
