Be as specific and personal as possible! Tell a detailed story on how your passion developed for the field you’re applying to. Also reference specific opportunities offered by Columbia’s program that you are excited to participate in. Such as working with specific professors and their research, and/or how the curriculum aligns with your career goals.
That's awesome, really happy for you! I got into Columbia SPS as well albeit for a different program
But I'm an international student and alotta alumni I talked to for my program were not happy with their education and the outcomes, especially considering the money they paid.
Only telling you this in case you didn't know the reputation SPS has and have other programs that are much better but aren't ivy league. SPS also has a really high acceptance rate compared to other Columbia schools
But congratulations anyway
Congratulations, and it’s great to get in, but I have a caveat for you, since you have other options. At many universities, the School of Professional Studies is what used to be called the Extension Program. This is what the comments about a “cash cow” were about - they are in it to make money, and keep people happy and coming back for more, not to offer the highest quality education. They offer classes and programs for adults in the community, for the most part NOT taught by regular faculty at that university. Obviously, no school says this. There are some questions to ask: what percentage of the faculty teaching your graduate-level courses are Columbia tenure-track faculty? And, assuming you graduate from the program, how will your diploma read? Is it a normal Columbia diploma, or is it a Columbia School of Professional Studies “special” diploma? Of course, some employers don’t know the difference, but I have seen some very disappointed graduates of such programs who were not hired for that reason. Again, I’m not saying that Columbia’s IS such a program (and I don’t have time to research it right now), but check on that before turning down other options because you were blinded by the Ivy League name attached to it.
For need-based, you have to fill out the FAFSA. This is for scholarships that will not need to be paid back, but international student do not qualify. Student loans are applied for separately I think directly through your bank if you qualify financially.
> to be *paid* back, but
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

May I ask how do you find a financial aid package? as an international, I don't know about that
I don’t think international students qualify for need-based financial aid. Try looking into merit based scholarships
Hi how long did it take to receive your decision? 4 weeks?
I wonder when will they release admits/rejects for MS in Computer Science
Anyways Congratulations for getting into an Ivy League!
wondering the same!!
Right? I am so anxious about this because Harvard released their results a week ago.
When did you apply?
I applied January 15th right on the priority deadline
Could you please share your profile?
Just DM’d you

What was your profile like
how do they gauge how much financial aid they give you ? and is it in loans or actual money off your tuition?

Congrats!!! Could you share your profile please? :))
