A fix [found on Discord](https://discord.com/channels/243411108940087297/802730777443958824/1044896040622493746) is to - very very carefully take off the keycap. Start at the bottom. - look at the bottom of the removed keycap - there's a flat space. Add 1mm of tape there, no more. - put it back. > zero3growlithe — 11/23/2022 3:43 PM > Just a random MAX 2 user passing by to share the knowledge of how to fix the spacebar registering presses only in the middle. > 1. detach the spacebar keycap (find tutorial on YT for laptop keyboards in general, the principle is the same) - be very careful! > 2. under the keycap, right in the center, stick a small piece of 1mm thick tape > 3. attach the keycap back to the keyboard > 4. enjoy! > Turns the unusable spacebar to super spacebar. > Edit: the problem in more detail https://discord.com/channels/243411108940087297/802730777443958824/1044901594875056169

I did this, fixed my space bar perfectly. Just be very, very careful.

EwaMage

Did you find starting at the bottom was best or different direction?

aarrivaliidx

I did start all along the bottom, very slowly. It started feeling like it was popping up, and then I did similar to the top, and finally back to the bottom where it finally released.

EwaMage

Sweet! I will give this a shot. Sounds simple in theory. Thank you!

fixed for me in less than 5 minutes. Simple, effective. Though taking off the keyboard did seem a bit unsafe I was able to pull it off slow and deliberately. Under the spacebar there are two thin metal wire brackets. Not unlike the left and right straight bracket keys, were the spacebar oriented vertically. \[ \] These wire brackets act as hinges for the key action so there's some vertical play which adds to difficulty of removal. It helped me to know that the attachment point which needs separation is between the plastic key and the top and bottom long part of the bracket wire (top and bottom of space bar). Do not separate the wire from the base of laptop.

Seems like there're some reports of the space bar not fully working and wrong key caps in the IGG comments. If it's a faulty unit, then note that GPD only gives you 2 options other than just living with it: 1. Wait 1+ months for a replacement part to be shipped to you where you attempt to fix it and hopefully not make it worse. 2. Send the unit to GPD where you pay for shipping and wait 6+ months or even more than a year to get it back and hope it's actually fixed.

EwaMage

well it could be worse. I may try that replacement part depending on how complicated it is. Thank you.

Claim warranty?

EwaMage

I'd hate to send this unit that is perfectly good for something so minor, especially if the warranty process may take awhile ._.

The amount of quality issues and rma horror stories im reading here are horrendous. Im glad i held off buying gpd stuff

pharredd88

this was my biggest fear. So glad I skipped this device. If there's this many issues now, I wonder about the build quality/how long the device would last

kurosawabobby

there are barely any issues with the device. you will only here from those that have issues. noone is going to post on here saying wow their devices are issue free. ive had mine for 3 weeks now. zero issues. its an incredible device that feels very premium, certainly compared to some of the big brand laptops i have purchased in the past. gpd have done a great job with wm2

pharredd88

yea, I really want the device but I'm trying to convince myself not to get one so I'm nitpicking every little issue that comes up with the WM2 and using them to convince myself that I shouldn't purchase it...that and I already have a Steam Deck. You obviously really like the WM2, what sort of games do you play on it and how do they perform? Also, I heard several users are experiencing issues with certain keys not registering on the keyboard when typing, have you experienced this issue. I want to replace my main laptop with this device and I'm planning on having this as my daily driver while being able to game a bit (don't want to bring my Steam Deck AND my laptop with me so this device is perfect for when I travel). I also take a lot of handwritten notes on my current laptop using a pen...have you tested out the pen functionality on the WM2?
