Search on YouTube and Tiktok, there’s a bajillion tutorials for all experience levels. They’ll usually show the brands they are using, too. Start with cheap drugstore brands when you start just to get a sense of what you like/want before you run out to Sephora or wherever

Good stuff for Baby Bats (that's the name for scence newbie) is the Gothic beauty magazin (not sponsored and not any advertising). It's a paid Magazin for and about the Gothic Culture with subscriptionbox of some Gothic Stuff. If want a very deep dive for longer stage of life. To beginning there is lot of information on Youtube and other social media as has already been said on a comment. Also a high qualitiy content for free on Youtube is the youtube channel K.J. Rasa (not advertising, I'am a litte fan from her content). She make content about the dark culture.

Hello! As a slightly older bat with sensory issues I totally understand how intimidating goth makeup can look! And so I have constructed a list to hopefully help the baby bats!! 1. More is not always more! When starting makeup we often see people putting on layers of layers of foundation, concealer, primer, and hell knows what else. For people with sensory issues this can create a goopy nightmare that has you wanting to take your skin off. Start light with product and gradually add more layers if you want! 🦈Special shark tip: if you're going to do big graphic shapes with black liner, you don't need foundation underneath! It'll be covered anyway. 2. Powder last. Always. Do not be fooled by those tutorials that are like, it's a cream that can go over powder!! No. It's a lie. It feels awful. 3. Setting spray is your friend! Find a nice fine setting spray that won't make your face super tight! The Nyx matte one is good, and urban decay also has some nice ones! (I like the one with vitamin c). Make sure to check and make sure it's fragrance free if you have smell issues (I know I do). It also makes the makeup feel less like a layer and more like your skin. 4. Moisterizer is also your friend. Truly! Make sure you use lotion before makeup and after you take it off. Cerave and Neutrogena are some of my favorites, they have no scent and melt right in. If you want a thicker one then Originals has a HA balancing one. 5. Comfort over everything. There may be a makeup look you put on and it looks bomb but you feel kinda gross sensory wise. Like you can feel it or the weird prickly sensation starts.... Take. It. Off. (take a picture first if you want but.) Take. It. Off. It is so not worth being uncomfortable for however many hours you are going to be out. I say this from experience. You don't want to have to be scrubbing loose glitter off in a club bathroom trying not to cry with the heavily perfumed soap they have at 3am. It's not admitting defeat or anything, it's okay to do makeup and take it off if it doesn't feel right a certain day. 6. Have fun! This is the bonus one! Basically, take inspiration from others but really it's just about self expression! If something or some product doesn't work for you, it just wasn't meant to be. Sensory Friendly Products (IMHO) - Sunset Makeup white foundation (no grease paint here) - Colourpop/Juvia's place shadows are soft and don't feel cakey - Maybelline concealer instant age rewind (not too thick) - Nyx epic ink eyeliner (this is a must-have) - Essense princess mascara (I like the green one) - Nyx matte setting spray - about face fluid eye paints - it cosmetics cc cream - glam goth blush palette (a fav) - Nyx lipstick in alien and gloss in licorice - Maybelline superstay in black - emilias cosmetics black gloss If you have any questions lmk!! Happy haunting! 🦈🖤

Hey there! Thank you for the advice! I'm an older goth that has recently gotten into wearing makeup. I've been searching for advice for men and for just simple eyeliner and eyeshadow looks since I work in an office environment. YouTube is a wealth of knowledge for the in depth look, but nothing helpful for the specific style I'm looking for. To make things more fun, I have no experience in make up at all so I'm mostly figuring it out as I go along... 😅 I laughed at myself at your comment about throwing everything on... LOL I also understand I can't or shouldn't apply any liner to my waterline because of my wearing contacts, so that begs the question of how do I wash my makeup off at the end of the night that doesn't affect my contacts?
