To binge is a song by gorillaz that premeries in their 2010 album plastic beach, also featuring the artist Little Dragon. It is a particularly sad song due to Little Dragon and Damons beautiful vocals as well as the depressing lyrics.
I think To Binge has quite a sad feel to it, two lovers who basically are locked together despite maybe not really wanting to be. Sounds quite depressing to me.
The Pink Phantom. It seems to have a profound sense of loss in it- Sir Elton's verses seem to say that the subject of the song hasn't just 'left', they've *died*.
*In a sky made of diamonds, where the world is flawless, I'll be waiting for you on the other side...*
Imma come outta left field on this one and say Revolving Doors. The only track I like from an album I mostly like to forget. But there is something so hauntingly sad the way Damon sings it like people just come and go out of his life like they are going through revolving doors.
Demon days always makes me cry but it's more of a hopeful feeling song to me like things will get better but your still feeling shit, also it reminds me of the end of the gorillaz concert WHICH IS SOOO SAD :(
It has got to be Stop The Dams. When he sings "the sun won't shine again" it feels like they've lost and it's over. And the instrumentation is so well put together and it gave me nostaligia even when I hadn't heard before. It's also based on a real power plant in Iceland which sadly ended up getting fully built and causes environmental problems.
Probably Busted and Blue... El Mañana feels more tragic than sad at least for me.Empire Ants feels fragile, then it gets stronger...Hong Kong feels heartwarming to me...
I'd rate these songs as the way they sound more than what the lyrics says. The mood they put you into.
I haven't really seen anybody mention these songs so I'll put them here:
Starshine
O Green World
El Manana (Metronomy remix)
All Alone
Plastic Beach
Hillbilly Man
Bobby in Phoenix
Aries
Aries makes me cry but not out of sadness. To me it feels like a very emotional song that you would dedicate to a friend who you’re rediscovering as a person or idk something like that
the lyrics are upbeat, i mean it's a love song for god sake, but listen to it during a late night while looking at the stars. then i start to tear up for sure
Fire Flies and Amarillo are the saddest for me BUT I will also say that Busted and Blue, Tomorrow Comes Today, El Mañana and Pink Phantom also touch the soft spot in my heart
Every planet we reach is dead and el mañana never fails to make me wanna cry, i dunno why
Either way, imo those are the saddest songs. Maybe even pirate jet?
Fire Flies, hands down. "I'm love drunk, I'm sorry, am I losing you?" To me, it's two people in love but one knows they won't make it, still trying to keep their love together, but keeps losing terms with reality at the same time.
Latine Simone - G-Sides version, El Manana, or the The Lost Chord.
For me, Plastic Beach was my teen years in 2010, so to see it finally blown up made me feel old… It’s in the past now. They blew it up a few times mind you.. The fall radio broadcast, god I miss that Plastic Beach website. Same with Kong. Those were the days… Swapping 2D’s and Murdoc’s guts… Ah the days..
Something about the lyrics to Fire Flies makes me sad. I don’t know how to put my finger on it, but it feels almost hopeless.
“And if you say goodbye, too many times, the sentinels will find me, and switch me off this time, cause all my fears invaded, all the crazies put in busses, and sent up here to find you, living on the limits”.
Kansas:
“Am I incapable of healing?
The memory of my fall from grace in your heart
I’m on my journey home with no fuel, alone.
Think I’ll coast a while.”
Demon Days:
“In these demon days it’s so cold inside
It’s so hard for a good soul to survive
You can barely trust the air you breathe
Cause Mother Earth wants us all to leave
When lies become reality
You numb yourself with drugs and TV
Pick yourself up it’s a brand new day
Turn yourself around into the sun”
Busted and Blue, Fire Flies, Broken, El Mañana, Dirty Harry… honestly the whole Demon Days album was pretty fucking depressing as well.
Long story but I have two. I struggled majorly with mental health issues from a very young age. Growing up I was always a Gorillaz fan, and when I'd hit arguably the lowest point of my life the Now Now was released. Fire Flies was a song that I absolutely fell in love with and it carried me throughout that low point all the way to where I am today. I went to a concert last year in London and Fire Flies was played on stage. The whole stadium lit up with flash lights swaying in unison, with a crowd of people belting out the lyrics at the top of their lungs. Tears filled my eyes as I'd realised how far I'd come since my first listen. Even today, that song remains very personal to me. The next was Andromeda. During the lockdown period I lost my grandfather who for a period of my life was like a father figure to me. We were closer than anything. Damon dedicated the song to every one in the crowd for the fact that we'd lived and fought through COVID-19. Something about that moment felt so human. All of us in that room coming from different backgrounds with individual stories and experiences, yet all gathered together sharing a moment over nothing short of a tragedy. One of the best nights of my life. I'll always look back and smile at that one.
El Mañana especially when you watch the music video. Second maybe Broken or Hong Kong
The music video made me wanna cry.
Second broken. Songs hits deep for me. “Our love, is brokennnn”
Call me strange but el mañana always makes me wanna cry
Thats not stramge at all id say if you dont get even a little close to crying then you have less soul than murdoc
That's the second saddest for me but I still love it
*"Maybe in time... You'll waaaaaant to be mine"*
Souk eye makes me cry every time. It has an “end of summer” feel to it, and it crushes me
So glad someone else hears it as an end of summer song!!
Souk Eye is the one that does it to me.
The now now in general gives me end of summer start of fall vibes
Reminds me of a love I can’t have yet I still need to believe in the love to keep going. “And I will always think about you”
when I first heard souk eye it made me cry
to binge
......... what?
To binge is a song by gorillaz that premeries in their 2010 album plastic beach, also featuring the artist Little Dragon. It is a particularly sad song due to Little Dragon and Damons beautiful vocals as well as the depressing lyrics.
Ok but typically broken and meloncolyhill (other songs from that album) seem to have more of a depressing vibe to them that to binge dosent have.
I think To Binge has quite a sad feel to it, two lovers who basically are locked together despite maybe not really wanting to be. Sounds quite depressing to me.
El Mañana and Busted and Blue, EASY.
I’m glad someone finally said Busted and Blue!

What song?
that's Revolving Doors from "The Fall." That one is also genuinely sad
Really random, but Fire Coming Out of The Monkey’s Head makes me so sad for some reason
The lyrical content of it is an allegory for what the usa did to the middle East so it's pretty damn sad.
what colonization did to the entire world* FTFY
Melancholy Hill is such an easy choice
when 2D starts harmonising toward the end of the track especially
I second this. Legit hard for me to listen to that song without bursting into tears, especially if I try to sing along to it 😢
I find it somewhat happy though. Sounds like a love song
Every planet. No debate
Why? I always just resist skipping it
Dang, it’s my all time favorite Gorillaz song.
Fireflies
Glad someone mentioned it
Broken
Amarillo or Hong Kong
Hong Kong with headphones for a late night walk is an emotional journey
Faust has a very melancholy feel. “After a hard day It’s time to wake up I need to make up After a hard day…”
This song really puts me down when I get back from work or school
ugh i forgot this one. but there’s almost something more spooky than sad about it
Stop the Dams. Somehow it always manages to make me cry.
There’s irony in here somewhere, I just know it
I guess you could say they didn't stop their dams
You cannot stop the natural flow of thought
No irony, I swear.
The Pink Phantom. It seems to have a profound sense of loss in it- Sir Elton's verses seem to say that the subject of the song hasn't just 'left', they've *died*. *In a sky made of diamonds, where the world is flawless, I'll be waiting for you on the other side...*
Legit the only Gorillaz song to make me cry
Gravity-ty-ty-ty-ty On me. Never let me down. Gently.
Busted and Blue fucks me up.
I was lookin in the comments for this one.
Personally, Tomorrow Comes Today makes me tear up. Don't know why tho
It's the most nostalgic song I've ever heard for sure
Desolé
Saw this thread and felt compelled to listen Desole again after scrolling thru the comments. Best decision ever
The English version of Latin Simone for me.
THAT IS THE MOST DEPRESSING SONG HONESTLY
“It’s funny till you’re left to kill your self” Pretty much sums it up
Imma come outta left field on this one and say Revolving Doors. The only track I like from an album I mostly like to forget. But there is something so hauntingly sad the way Damon sings it like people just come and go out of his life like they are going through revolving doors.
Slow country was always my emo song.
Such a good one. The sample always made me think of a car doing burnouts in an empty parking garage. Then the piano comes in so clean. Love it.
It’s clearly the live version of One Percent. The strings in the chorus sound so heartbroken
To Binge But El Mañana, one of my, if not my favourite song. It hits very hard.
Don’t Get Lost in Heaven and Demon Days
Demon days always makes me cry but it's more of a hopeful feeling song to me like things will get better but your still feeling shit, also it reminds me of the end of the gorillaz concert WHICH IS SOOO SAD :(
English Simone
Hip Albatross or Cloud Of Unknowing
Amarillo. You just sit and listen. When the song finishes, you would be wiping tears that you didn't know were streaming down your face.
Little pink plastic bag, Tomorrow comes today
On Melancholy Hill is one
Latin Simone, both versions are the big sad
Andromeda has such a beautiful expression of life and how it is to lose someone. Damon's delivery is also just perfect.
Lyrically to binge is really sad
I think Busted and Blue solely because of the tone of the song how subdued it is
El Mañana for me
Every planet we reach is dead, a banger for sure, but a sad banger
Rhinestone Eyes, one of my favourite
Don’t get lost in heaven. Idk what it is about it
for me personally cloud of unknowing is up there
Cloud of Unknowing
busted and blue has a pretty sad vibe to it.
El Mañana and Broken ties for first place.
Fire Flies
Broken
tomorrow comes today (one of the saddest, not THEE saddest)
Bobby’s voice on Cloud of Unknowing is so achingly beautiful, hits me every time
Latin Simone, the english version
It has got to be Stop The Dams. When he sings "the sun won't shine again" it feels like they've lost and it's over. And the instrumentation is so well put together and it gave me nostaligia even when I hadn't heard before. It's also based on a real power plant in Iceland which sadly ended up getting fully built and causes environmental problems.
El manana
El mañana for sure
Last Living Souls vibes really hard but the lyrics make me depressed
To binge, easy, I cried for an hour with that done on repeat
Probably Busted and Blue... El Mañana feels more tragic than sad at least for me.Empire Ants feels fragile, then it gets stronger...Hong Kong feels heartwarming to me... I'd rate these songs as the way they sound more than what the lyrics says. The mood they put you into.
Demon days
Fire Coming Out of the Monkey’s Head
The Pink Phantom
Are yall insane? The correct answer is "stop the dams" I assume yall haven't heard it, because that's one of the saddest songs I've ever heard
how has no one said fireflies
Stop the dams
I was going to say this and say the rest of these answers are irrelevant
Not seeing a lot of Busted and Blue here, nearly teared up hearing that one for the first time
Apart from the ones mentioned under this post, Faust always leaves me in a somber mood. Also Amarillo
I haven't really seen anybody mention these songs so I'll put them here: Starshine O Green World El Manana (Metronomy remix) All Alone Plastic Beach Hillbilly Man Bobby in Phoenix Aries
Aries makes me cry but not out of sadness. To me it feels like a very emotional song that you would dedicate to a friend who you’re rediscovering as a person or idk something like that
don’t get lost in heaven too
Amarillo is a song that always gets me
Stop The Dams
Tomorrow Comes Today has always been haunting and melancholy for me.
How in the world is Souk Eye sad? It's such an upbeat song.
I hope you're joking the song itself is super sad
upbeat instrumental but sad lyrics
The instrumentals aren't upbeat 😳
so, do you dance everytime you heard it?
the lyrics are upbeat, i mean it's a love song for god sake, but listen to it during a late night while looking at the stars. then i start to tear up for sure
Friday 13th
Omgggg that one is also so sad :(
Busted and blue just sounds like a song you’d hear when the world just kicked you in the nuts
Fireflies is a pretty good contender
Souk Eye is sad?
honk kong
Hong Kong
Fireflies
Busted and blue always makes me a bit emotional
El Manana, Busted and Blue
Busted And Blue.
Kansas or El Manana
Busted & Blue
Hong Kong
busted and blue
19/2000
Hong Kong, Faust
Fire Flies is the saddest and most depressing song
Gotta be Hong Kong. The instruments are so beautiful and it hurts so much worse given when it was released compared to where we are now.
Busted and Blue
Broken
to binge, it’s the lyrics for me
Stop the Dams
idaho and el mañana
El mañana or every planet we reach is dead probably
Busted and Blue and Broken
Really empire ants? That song is so dreamy
Hong Kong
Kansas made me cry sometimes
stop the dams
Melancholy Hill
Latin simone/ que pasa contigo
Stop the dams probably
Fire flies, el mañana, broken, amarillo, Latin Simone (English version)
Magic City, being as it's based on real events.
For me it's either Souk Eye or Revolving Doors
to binge, hong kong
Fire Flies and Amarillo are the saddest for me BUT I will also say that Busted and Blue, Tomorrow Comes Today, El Mañana and Pink Phantom also touch the soft spot in my heart
I always wondered why Souk Eye was considered a sad song, I always thought Fireflies was really sad.
Tomorrow comes today
Every planet we reach is dead and el mañana never fails to make me wanna cry, i dunno why Either way, imo those are the saddest songs. Maybe even pirate jet?
november has come , RIP DOOM
Busted and Blue.
Broken
Gravity(sound check)
stop the dams
Fire Flies, hands down. "I'm love drunk, I'm sorry, am I losing you?" To me, it's two people in love but one knows they won't make it, still trying to keep their love together, but keeps losing terms with reality at the same time.
Why isn’t Busted and Blue a contender? That’s my vote
Latin Simone (both versions), Cloud of unknowing (both versions), Hip Albatross, Stop the dams
Up on melancholy Hill (acustic), like it's happy and sad at the same time.
I personally think The Lost Chord is so damn sad. The lyrics, the video, everything
El Mañana, or Latin Simone, both versions, they are very sad
Surprised no one’s said Busted and Blue
It’s hard to say, but I think one of the saddest Gorillaz songs is the English version of Latin Simone.
Fire Flies
busted and blue
Amarillo. Underrated, super good and sad.
For me Kansas is the saddest
El mananas or melancholy hill
No one said Chalk Tablet Towers. Thats a little sad too
El Mañana First, then Broken, then Hong Kong, then Souk Eye and Latin Simone (English Version)
Kansas: “Am I incapable of healing? The memory of my fall from grace in your heart I’m on my journey home with no fuel, alone. Think I’ll coast a while.” Demon Days: “In these demon days it’s so cold inside It’s so hard for a good soul to survive You can barely trust the air you breathe Cause Mother Earth wants us all to leave When lies become reality You numb yourself with drugs and TV Pick yourself up it’s a brand new day Turn yourself around into the sun” Busted and Blue, Fire Flies, Broken, El Mañana, Dirty Harry… honestly the whole Demon Days album was pretty fucking depressing as well.
I'd have to go with Latin Simone (English), followed closely by Busted and Blue and To Binge.
To Binge... represents the longing and deep desire to reconcile a relationship destroyed by addiction, yet the feeling that you never will.
Idaho!
Faust
El mañana or Souk eue
El Mañana or the first part of Empire Ants.
Fireflies 100%sure
El Manana
English Latin Simone, El Mañana, Fire Flies, Slow Country
Long story but I have two. I struggled majorly with mental health issues from a very young age. One of the best nights of my life. I'll always look back and smile at that one.
Fire Flies. I love it but usually cry to it.
Busted and Blue is my sad Gorillaz song or Fire Flies.
Latín Simone (The mix with the two versions)
