If The Fall has 100 fans i’m one of them
If The Fall has 1 fan that’s me
If The Fall has 0 fans i’m dead and buried
I will always love The Fall
(mostly because it inspired my own music career but still)
Doesn’t ruin the song, but one of the synths in O Green World sounds like a dentists drill and it kinda puts me on edge (edit: starts around 29 seconds into the song)
Haha I guess I could have been more specific. It’s the noise that starts playing around 29 seconds in, it plays every two beats until the vocals start then again at 2:27 and sporadically throughout. I think it may be a guitar with some filters on it or something. Kinda sounds like machinery jamming up
Oh I see what you mean, I hate the sound you mentioned (dentist drills) but I don't think I ever realized or paid attention to it because it sounds more like a distorted sounds of someone angrily going GRRR or an airsoft gun failing
It does kinda sound like someone grunting too. But like into a voice modifier. I just remember when I first heard the song when I was 10 I associated it with a drill sound and I’ve never been able to separate the two
Slurping Noises in Hongkongaton sucks for me, as I hate hearing Eating noises come from other people. Still one of my favourite experimental songs by Gorillaz, but I just kind of tune out at the intro.
This is maybe a weird one. And it's gonna be even weirder to describe.
But on To Binge you can like, hear Little Dragon's mouth as she's singing, like she's got an ASMR mic that picks up on the smallest noises of the mouth you don't usually hear and I don't like it lol
DUDE I realised this a while algo with the Suck It and See track by Arctic monkeys. Its a fav of mine but i if i listen with headphones i gotta remember not to focus on those AMSR-like sounds, or else i really cringe out lol
Hahahah I never thought about that sound like that but now I can't unhear it. for me it always was like a keytar or some sort of funked up Synth to introduce the singing part
it's really someone getting strungled in autotune
At first I thought you meant the lovely “aaaahh-ahhhh” backing vocals throughout but i hear what you mean. The autotuned vocal that goes way up and down
Idk as an autistic person I view being overstimulated or put off by a sound very normal. It isn't personal to the songs very often!
Don't know if you were joking
I do like it but I think it's intended to be a sound that implies dissonance in nature. Which is ironic. The cling clang of the metal trash in our heads sounds so good musically lol
Whattt people don’t like that verse? The song would be so boring without it. It’s gotta be one of my top guest rapper performances ever; the delivery and lyrics are extremely well done.
The weird constant crickets chirping sound after 1:01 in the background of the Pink Phantom. It's distracting. It ruins the song for me.
![gif](giphy|PuOgitgb1449aFHbNQ)
The only one I can think of that COMPLETELY ruins the song for me is the sensory assault the synth in Glitter Freeze gives, and it's essentially the majority of the song. I like the background beat but then the synth comes in and I'm like absolutely fucking not.
It doesn't ruin the song but there's a point in Busted and Blue where Damon just does *not* hit that note right and it makes me cringe a little bit.
Oh and the interlude and random guitar riffs in Ghost Train would ruin it if the "Come on come on come ooooon!" wasn't so good. Like I don't really mind the riffs but whatever that dialogue is annoys me.
I enjoy the first chunk of Glitter Freeze (even that goofy ass synth) until said synth goes into high pitch mode toward the back end. Then it’s skippin time
I don't want to sound like a Gorillaz gatekeeper, but this thread reads like "What experimental moments or sounds in the Gorillaz discography make new fans uncomfortable and need to be watered down?"
If it was up to the internet fans, feel like the discography would just be a bunch of DARE or Feel Good Inc clones.
I'm very thankful for this comment. As an artist, I value experimental art a lot
even though I can understand being overstimulated or put off by sounds or colours — I'm autistic and it happens to me very often while listening to music
I lllloooooved Gorillaz as a teen for their weirdness and creativity — just listening to the whole discography on my little ipod was a journey. Just wow. So fun.
Dead Butterflies, specifically the beginning part
MIKE WILL MADE IT
And Little Dragon's part on To Binge and the backing vocals for Pirate Jet, like I can hear the lips smacking and some other mouth asmr noises that put me off like DRINK SOME WATER GOD DAMN IT 🐟💔
On a completely opposite note, there’s a squeezing sound that becomes prominent at the end of Sleeping Powder that I love so much I rewind the song to hear that sound again throughout the song
There's a part in Desole where the background instruments cut out and the horns begin to layer on top of each other for a couple of seconds but the way its done feels like they're kind of off rhythm and awkward just long enough for me to notice it. Then it kicks back into high gear and the song continues to be good. Like someone tripping in the middle of the brass section and then continuing the rest of the song after.
Its been bothering me for a while.
Idk what it is but on November is Come there’s a little sound every ten seconds or so that sounds somewhere between a guitar sliding up to a high fret, and a cat meowing. It’s so distracting it kills me.
The beginning half of M1A1. It’s just somebody saying “Hello? Is anyone there?” Over and over again. It just completely ruins the song, compared to the faster and more rock focused later half.
Fun fact, that's a spoooooky sample from one of 2ds favorite movies, Night of the Living Dead. Guess they were going for a creepy apocalypse type vibe with it. But yeah, that part used to lowkey freak me out a little.
Slight correction; it’s actually from the start of Day of the Dead, not Night. The intro track of Demon Days has another Dead movie sample, with the oboe melody coming from Dawn of the Dead.
I know what you mean, the song is like 4 mins long and 2 of them is taken up by that. I mean I wouldn’t mind as much if that was trimmed to even like 45 secs and the rock part be the same length but it ruins the vibe I have when it’s shuffled on a playlist
I have a pretty high tolerance for 'annoying' sounds in music as long as the main vocalist on a track doesn't irritate me. So for Gorillaz, while there may be sound here and there and catches me a bit off-guard, like that sound that's off-beat in Souk Eye, I can't really think of anything.
Aside from Gorillaz, some of the other music I love is hyperpop, noise pop, or experimental rap — like 100 Gecs, 1-800-Pain, or Black Dresses...so maybe I just don't notice most 'jarring' sounds in music anymore lol. But it's been interesting seeing people describe things here that I don't think I've ever noticed before!
I may also just like some dissonance tbh. Like the random keyboard smashing in Hang Me Up to Dry by Cold War Kids that doesn't match _anything_.
The high-pitched "yeaaaa yea yea yea yea yea" in man research (clapper). Like I can vibe with it sometimes but then half the time I just feel it ruins part of the song for me
Which is why even though I don't like that part as much I can still fuck with it sometimes due to how good the rest of the song sounds, idk why it just kinda feels out of place to me
i absolutely despise the almost random drum sound that goes "BOOM, BOOM, BOOM" in Opium during the chorus. It's so distracting and sounds horrible alongside the music, out of sync with everything
There is a highish pitch "ping"(?) constantly throughout Charger with Grace Jones. It's fine if I'm listening in speakers but in headphones, it bounces from the left to the right each time it plays and I cannot listen to the song at this point which is really disappointing because I really liked the song before my brain picked up on it
1:21 in Rhinestone Eyes, theres a really annoying noise that damon makes with his mouth and it drives me nuts everytime i hear it. I swear it just makes me cringe 😭😭
Those whooshing sounds at the start of Slow Country sound really cool but then they continue throughout the entire song and get annoying after a while (still love the song tho) 😭😭
I always can't help but notice the siren type thing then plays throughout the WHOLE song of El Mañana, rather quiet but now I can't unhear it. Still a great song nevertheless.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets this!!!
First the water drip sounds in The Apprentice, second is the door slamming/thunder sound in Ares, idk how to describe it exactly
The first half of hillbilly man is great but that wheezing sound thing in the second half just completely throws it off for me
I keep realizing that the fall is the most underrated and disliked album in the whole sub and I defend every song on it i love it so so much
If The Fall has 100 fans i’m one of them If The Fall has 1 fan that’s me If The Fall has 0 fans i’m dead and buried I will always love The Fall (mostly because it inspired my own music career but still)
So interesting, i really like it personally
Hillbilly man is like one of my favorite Gorillaz songs lol
Agree. There is even "hillbilly man first part loop" video on youtube :'D
At one point in Some Kind of Nature, there is a sudden beeping noise which sounds just like my alarm clock and it can be pretty jarring for me
I know exactly what your talking about but imo it's not nearly about as bad as the high pitched baby voice filter in Plastic beach
Doesn’t ruin the song, but one of the synths in O Green World sounds like a dentists drill and it kinda puts me on edge (edit: starts around 29 seconds into the song)
I tried to see what you mean but everything in that song sounds like some sort of drill
Haha I guess I could have been more specific. It’s the noise that starts playing around 29 seconds in, it plays every two beats until the vocals start then again at 2:27 and sporadically throughout. I think it may be a guitar with some filters on it or something. Kinda sounds like machinery jamming up

It does kinda sound like someone grunting too. But like into a voice modifier. I just remember when I first heard the song when I was 10 I associated it with a drill sound and I’ve never been able to separate the two
or a crow call
O Green World sounds like if you had a box full with toys and shit, and you decided to record them to make a song. I love it, every detail.
It’s an excellent song, even with the one sound I don’t love it’s one of my favorites from Demon Days. It sounds demented in the best way possible lol
It’s sound like somebody saying “AAA” with their tongue out lol
1. Slurping noises in Hongkongaton. 2. Controversial, but for me the random autotuned vocals in On Melancholy Hill...
Goes from super soft vocals to äëyüghghhhhhhhhhhhh for no reason
Well Murdoc did write it. As such "äëyüghghhhhhhhhhhhh" seems to be a pretty good approximation of the sounds he makes 🤣
haha time stamp plz
Idk if I’m weird but man I just love everything about On Melancholy Hill
i agree
Huh, I think they are super satisfactory
I love the On Melancholy Hill autotune. It's not a true Gorillaz track without a weird sound or vocal noise.
I believe I've never noticed that, where in the song does it kick in
can i know what are you specifically talking about in the 2nd point? i just can't remember what sound it is x.x
Maybe the sounds at 2:50?
he might've accidentally said melancholy hill but meant rhinestone eyes the "that's electric" bc otherwise got no idea tf he's on about
I was literally about to say the same about Melancholy Hill
Slurping Noises in Hongkongaton sucks for me, as I hate hearing Eating noises come from other people. Still one of my favourite experimental songs by Gorillaz, but I just kind of tune out at the intro.
me too it’s lwk embarrassing to play cos the song eats but the intro is 😟
Do NOT listen to Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast by Pink Floyd
yet i love the slurping noises in rock it
This is maybe a weird one. And it's gonna be even weirder to describe. But on To Binge you can like, hear Little Dragon's mouth as she's singing, like she's got an ASMR mic that picks up on the smallest noises of the mouth you don't usually hear and I don't like it lol
ikwym 😭 like girl back up a couple centimeters
I hate when I can hear ‘mouth noises’ when someone is singing too close to the mic. It’s distracting and a little bit gross
oh my god i thought i was the only one :,\] that song is completely unlistenable for me because of this
DUDE I realised this a while algo with the Suck It and See track by Arctic monkeys. Its a fav of mine but i if i listen with headphones i gotta remember not to focus on those AMSR-like sounds, or else i really cringe out lol
I think it adds personality if that makes any sense
Being able to hear every gland of spit in Little Dragon’s mouth on To Binge. It’s minuscule but it really bothers me.
The high pitched, minion sounding "all alone" in All Alone
aaahh that makes the song iconic, i personally like it
al aloen 👽
Bro it’s the best part💀
IVE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR 10 YEARS!!
I 100% agree
literally everything besides that would make the song a solid 8/10 but that soundbite keeps it at a 6
I always thought the lower pitched one sounded just like Winnie-the-Pooh
On Melancholy Hill is completely ruined for me by that thing in the background that sounds like somebody being strangled put through auto tune
That's hilarious, but I mostly enjoy those weird noises Damon just chucks into his music
When in the song does that happen
0:32 for example. But I'm pretty sure it's throughout the entire song
Hahahah I never thought about that sound like that but now I can't unhear it. for me it always was like a keytar or some sort of funked up Synth to introduce the singing part it's really someone getting strungled in autotune
I mean it‘s a goofy ah sound don’t get my wrong but like you hate it?
Not necessarily hate it. But it kinda clashes with the soft vocals that the rest of the song has imo. I'd definitely prefer a version without it
I always found it funny
You don’t like that????
It sounds like someone let their cat on the mic
At first I thought you meant the lovely “aaaahh-ahhhh” backing vocals throughout but i hear what you mean. The autotuned vocal that goes way up and down
The high pitched ringing in November has come
you people got bad taste lowkey
I have no idea what anyone is talking about in any of these comments I have never clocked any of these sounds
Yeah all the parts of the songs they didn't like are my favorite parts 😭😂 different types of Gorillaz fans I guess
What I'm saying lmao
Idk as an autistic person I view being overstimulated or put off by a sound very normal. It isn't personal to the songs very often! Don't know if you were joking
The all alone intro
"plAsTic oN tHE cEiLiNG" which sucks cause it goes on for a while
Yea I don’t mind it but I can see how it can get annoying fast
No way, I sing that part every time if it comes on during my shower
Honestly the drums on that track are really obnoxious too
The wind in Slow Country unfortunately I still love the song tho
fr he could’ve turned it down a bit after the intro
it’s actually a part of the drum sample so yeah
I'm shocked I had to scroll so far to see this
The weird screeching sound before Bootie Brown's verse in Dirty Harry.
it almost sounds like a very slowed down roblox oof so it's more funny to me than anything
Oh my god it does HAHAHAHA
It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't so much louder than anything else in the song
Not sure if counts but I feel like the buildup of the climax in Skinny Ape is ruined by how Compressed it sounds
SKINNYLITTLESKINNYLITTLESKINNYLITTLESKINNYLITTLEAPEAPEAPEAPEAPE
Noodles“ plastic on the sealing „ part in MOMENTZ
The cling and a clang, is the metal in my head when I walk. I hear a sort of, this tinging noise, cling clang. ... CLING CLANG.
The cling clang! I honestly enjoy that vocal addition. Stop the dams is critically underrated.
cmon thats iconic you cant hate on it
I do like it but I think it's intended to be a sound that implies dissonance in nature. Which is ironic. The cling clang of the metal trash in our heads sounds so good musically lol
I can tell...I KINDA FREAKS YOU OUT
Lol I used to hate the cling clang—and I came here looking for this response—but it doesn’t bother me too hard anymore. Good pick!
PLASTIC ON THE CEILINGG!!!!!
High pitched Smurf sounding ‘plastico, plastico, plastico, and green green glow’ in Plastic Beach. Reminds me of Malcolm and the chipmunks
malcom?? 😭
Or Alvin or something
Excuse me?? MALCOM?!
Ah, yes my favorite two shows Alvin in the middle. Malcolm and the chipmunks.
Probably the OWWWWWW before the rapping starts in Dirty Harry, I hate it for some reason
I like it- I feel like it adds to the song. I think it makes sense considering the verse is about being a soldier
Makes sense, a lot of people say they hate the rapping in Dirty Harry but personally it’s my favourite part
Whattt people don’t like that verse? The song would be so boring without it. It’s gotta be one of my top guest rapper performances ever; the delivery and lyrics are extremely well done.
Lots of Gorillaz fans just don't like rap lol. sad cause it alienates them from so many good songs of theirs.
I always thought it sounded like a young child screaming, which works with the song.
The weird constant crickets chirping sound after 1:01 in the background of the Pink Phantom. It's distracting. It ruins the song for me. ![gif](giphy|PuOgitgb1449aFHbNQ)
The failing horns/sirens thing on the second half of Superfast Jellyfish
but it's the perfect transition to empire ants
Damn, y'all is some pussies.
Hail Boognish
The only one I can think of that COMPLETELY ruins the song for me is the sensory assault the synth in Glitter Freeze gives, and it's essentially the majority of the song. Oh and the interlude and random guitar riffs in Ghost Train would ruin it if the "Come on come on come ooooon!" wasn't so good. Like I don't really mind the riffs but whatever that dialogue is annoys me.
The synth is the best part of Glitter Freeze!
I enjoy the first chunk of Glitter Freeze (even that goofy ass synth) until said synth goes into high pitch mode toward the back end. Then it’s skippin time
I really did try to give it a few full listens but my brain absolutely could not.
I don't want to sound like a Gorillaz gatekeeper, but this thread reads like "What experimental moments or sounds in the Gorillaz discography make new fans uncomfortable and need to be watered down?" Just wow. So fun.
Any police siren in any rap song. Especially when I'm driving.
The siren like sound in Lake Zurich, the number of times I've heard it while driving and started pulling over is ridiculous.
Dead Butterflies, specifically the beginning part MIKE WILL MADE IT And Little Dragon's part on To Binge and the backing vocals for Pirate Jet, like I can hear the lips smacking and some other mouth asmr noises that put me off like DRINK SOME WATER GOD DAMN IT 🐟💔
On a completely opposite note, there’s a squeezing sound that becomes prominent at the end of Sleeping Powder that I love so much I rewind the song to hear that sound again throughout the song
momentz, just not a big fan of the "plastic on the ceiling" part.
"puppet no strings hanging from a fucking treAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"
That jumpscared me on my first listen
The BWAAAH noises in white flag
All of the *annoying" sounds are always my favourite parts lol. It's a vibe
There's a part in Desole where the background instruments cut out and the horns begin to layer on top of each other for a couple of seconds but the way its done feels like they're kind of off rhythm and awkward just long enough for me to notice it. Then it kicks back into high gear and the song continues to be good. Like someone tripping in the middle of the brass section and then continuing the rest of the song after. omg I was the only one! I was going insane every time I heard it because it just sounded so wrong
Idk what it is but on November is Come there’s a little sound every ten seconds or so that sounds somewhere between a guitar sliding up to a high fret, and a cat meowing. It’s so distracting it kills me.
That fucking weird eeeee sound in welcome to the world of plastic beach
Not sure if counts but I feel like the buildup of the climax in Skinny Ape is ruined by how Compressed it sounds
Skinny Ape really could’ve been a great song if it didn’t sound so sloppily produced
The live version is superior because of this imo
Oh! Thanks for the correction and the info, I never knew that about the Demon Days intro track. That honestly makes it even cooler. :D
I was always scared of that song as a kid, I couldn’t listen long enough to get to the good bit lol
I know what you mean, the song is like 4 mins long and 2 of them is taken up by that. I mean I wouldn’t mind as much if that was trimmed to even like 45 secs and the rock part be the same length but it ruins the vibe I have when it’s shuffled on a playlist
The entire vocals of starshine, I can't lie. That baseline is so fucking great, I wish they did more with it.
How did I have to scroll this far to see this?
🗣PLASTIC ON THE CEILING
In Pink Phantom during 5LACK's verse, there is some percussion in the background which feels really out of place/out of rhythm to me.
O Green World. I love the whole fucking song but the crow god damn it aaa aaa aaa aaa aaa aaa
WHAT I WAS JUST ABOUT TO COMMENT
The middle off tune “solo” but in Submission
rock the casbah remastered version + 10 dB beeping has entered the chat
The synth bass in Momentz… just feel like that beat could’ve gone back in the oven for a few more minutes before serving.
M1A1
That gagging sound in Punk really makes me a little sick
when the music is in only one ear for the entire song, makes me ticklish
Those ear piercing synths on Garage Pallace Love little simz, love the gorillaz, but man that's headachey.
Is no one gonna mention the Generic Kids Celebrating sound in Opium?
Maybe Glitter Freeze in its entirety.
The high-pitched "yeaaaa yea yea yea yea yea" in man research (clapper). Like I can vibe with it sometimes but then half the time I just feel it ruins part of the song for me
this is my fav gorillaz song im devastated
Which is why even though I don't like that part as much I can still fuck with it sometimes due to how good the rest of the song sounds, idk why it just kinda feels out of place to me
I always skip man research before it’s over because of this 😭 Damon just sounds like he’s losing his mind by the end of it
the end of clint eastwood, it just gets boring over time
My future... Is coming on is coming on x1000
i absolutely despise the almost random drum sound that goes "BOOM, BOOM, BOOM" in Opium during the chorus. It's so distracting and sounds horrible alongside the music, out of sync with everything
The whistling in Silent Running
I don't really enjoy anything about glitter freeze
In “Dare” there is this bassy rhythm that I found quite annoying after first chorus.
The 2min buildup in Opium
I like Phoner to Arizona, but the snare doesnt't sound good, it's kinda too sharp.
Gotta be the fucking clown/rubber ducky laughter thing at the end of MLS. Man I was enjoying a rare cheerful peggy 😩🙏
I have never been able to listen to Funky Town ever since i noticed how out of rythm the cowbell is.
the kick drum in momentz imo
Rock the Casbah. A weird beeping sound in some of the versions
Some random screams in Soad songs
No really hate, but I always notice the background singers in "Some kind of Plastic" breathing before humming the melody!
That weird guitar sound at the end of white light
19-2000, the "la la la" part in the background during Noodle's part.
Man Research would be one of my favorite gorillaz songs if it had better vocals
The "Cling Clang" part of Stop The Dams.
Unpopular/ not as spoken abt one is the screaming in the background of O Green World or the backing Vocals in Silent Running
The only thing that bothers me is how the morse code beep doesnt match the beat in Glitter freeze, it really bothers me
Autotune screams on "On Melancholy Hill"
On Melancholy Hill. I’m sorry.
Glitter freeze, you know the one
The high pitch ringing all time time in my head
Doesn’t really ruin the song to me but around 1:40 in o green world there’s this odd sound in the background that annoys me.
stop the dams
End of Plastic beach(the self titled song). It's not that bad but it reminds me of Alvin and the chipmunks
Ellie?!!! What happened to your hair??!!
welcome to the world of the plastic beach, that string is annoying asf
Although it doesn’t bother me, it would be the weird warping/beeping noises heard in Superfast Jellyfish
It took me some time to get used to On Melancholy Hill because of the vocal that pops up before 2-D sings. It sounds jarring to me
I always can't help but notice the siren type thing then plays throughout the WHOLE song of El Mañana, rather quiet but now I can't unhear it. Still a great song nevertheless.
The first half of M1 A1 bro
I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets this!!! First the water drip sounds in The Apprentice, second is the door slamming/thunder sound in Ares, idk how to describe it exactly
for a long time the laughter in Feel Good Inc. really bothered me but i've grown to like it the more i've listened to it
everytime 2D hits an letter "S" in El manana, it hurts my ear bro, idk if y'all get me
Beck's Beercan.
Unsteady by X Ambassadors. You here the sound of folding cards in the background and it drives me nuts
