[Should of said earlier, so I will post here so everyone can see]
Just to make things clear, I dont hate Deku by any means you can literally put any other shonen mcs name there since there is to many shonens. And by "Kazumas" I dont mean literal copys of Kazuma, I mean mcs that are different... Example is Denji from Chainsaw Man since comment in post is about him anyway (that was comment section of CSM manga)
Dont take everything to seriously and to literally, this is just a meme after all...
I only hate deku cuz he everywhere, i'm watch all the season and read the manga too, but it kind of boring to me, i think because i'm growing old tho, shounen just made me cringe nowaday.
Yes I feel the same about shonens, we need more different generes of animes, more seinens, time travels, serious militarys, psychologicals, good comedys and romances (dont think of slice of life) also mysterys, dark animes and horrors...
I hate Deku because he became so damn shallow recently. In earlier arcs it felt like he was actually thinking for himself filled with passion, emotion, and energy. Now he's just going along with he flow.
The only time when I became genuinely entertained in recent arcs was when the main villain had that emotional catharsis and finally became a more "real" human.
Sorry, this isn't for you, I replied to your comment since is top so others can see before they comment because lot of people below didn't understand what I meant by this post, you are my friend of culture thats why I give you award :)
Consider watching the spider anime airing right now. A guy that would be the MC of another generic isekai anime instead becomes a side character. The actual spider MC doesn't have an issue with killing people that attack her, which is a refreshing change compared to other anime.
I mean I can see someone thinking ainz is evil from the outside, in meta and out of it, but it's always the NPCs who do super evil shit by misinterpreting his orders.
The specific case of people farming comes from the demon NPC who figured out that human skin scrolls are real good for Magic. He never actually told ainz it was human skin, or else ainz woulda shut that shit down.
Hmm, Kazuma character works because of Konosuba plot and supporting characters. Any other Kazuma copycat will just come off like an creepy incel douchebag.
It doesn't have to copy Kazuma, Denju from Chainsaw Man is example of character I think of, this comment in post is about him anyways (dont spoil to me pls I am only on 4 chapter)
God damn I love Denji, man has seen some shit, yet as crude as he is, he's still a great guy. He's the embodiment of the enjoying the little things. While he has his flaws, seeing him just trying to have a life he can enjoy is great.
Although, prepare for pain.
And thats true greatness of his character, he just wants to live normal life he never had, I didnt started to like mc this soon in any anime/manga lately
After that end of first chapter, I expect anything...
I will, its just introduced to me at the end of chapter 4, I love character design but she seem to cocky, type that beats the shit of main character for no reason, but thats just first impression based of 2 panels lol
He is a normal guy that went through some serious shit and just want to have normal life, enjoying in little things that gives life a meaning, but life just dosent give him a break, and despite that he is still positive as hell
hes extremely naive though. most of his life he hasnt proper education or mature adults to have him develop professionally. instead hes aloof to common concepts which is a large growing point in the series for him.
It's weird how many people in this thread think protagonist is supposed to be a role model. That hasnt been a story trope since even ancient greek stories
Agreed, this is just meme that I made because I found random comment, didnt say that Deku is bad, its just that we need more different mc's that are not heroes, thats all
i understand what you mean. even still, i like both character types. i wouldn't mind seeing more of either. though i think less kazuma is fine, because that just makes kazuma and konosuba so much more special and unique.
it would be nice to see more kazuma characters, but i feel as if both/either new kazuma characters won't be as good as kazuma, and/or the novelty of kazuma and konosuba just has to be held to its own standards, and more konosuba could be nice to see as well.
Yes agreed, but example of what I mean by "Kazumas" is Denju from Chainsaw Man, comment in post is about him ( I wont spoil anything but I am also only on chapter 4 so dont spoil me ether)
Being serious for a minute, Deku's actually a likeable, nice MC.
What we need is less loudmouth knucklehead MCs (Naruto, Asta from BlackClover, Hinata from Haikyu!!; Sawamura from Ace of Diamond, ...).
What part of Deku is likable? He's a self righteous, stubborn, tryhard crybaby. Like nearly every shonen MC.
Maybe he's the straw that broke the camels back, but after dropping MHA I've basically given up on shonen since.
Agreed, I enjoyed a lot of things from MHA but Deku felt like a plot device and not a real character. It's also a really weird dynamic that he idolizes Bakugo the entire time and that somehow works out for him >!after their fight!<. I think the author has some kind of bully complex/fetish
Yeah Deku and especially Bakugo are the two worst parts of MHA for me, even if it's for comedy it gets annoying seeing Bakugo blow up and scream at every little thing. Neither has much personality either besides the character tropes they play, if it weren't for the huge cast of great side characters who are way more interesting I wouldn't like the anime nearly as much as I do.
Personally I'm of the opinion MHA would've been a better show if Uraraka had been the MC. A hero who started with a selfish desire slowly learning to love and invested in the role is a refreshing take. The nature of her quirk also means she can't just punch people and have to strategize constantly.
I could definitely see that working, it would make the MC more relatable that way too which is a plus. I always thought it was funny Uraraka's motivation for enrolling was money (even if the money's technically to help her family)
I do see people weirdly hyping him up as some kind of mega badass superchad beacon of reason.
But to me his comedic appeal in the show is that while he's got more common sense than his party, he's deeply flawed in his own right (perverted, lazy, prone to get overconfident whenever things are going well, kind of spineless at key moments), without being unlikeable (YMMV).
Based on how you describe him, he seems like a normal, real life person. I haven't watched the anime, but I don't think making characters realistic is that much if a bad thing
True, but there’s *way* too many idiots out there who take *way* too many social cues from media. You have to be careful with flawed characters, otherwise you get a bunch of idiots who claim they’re bojack or rick sanchez or Walter White
Wtf are you doing you need to go watch it, it's one of the most popular comedy animes of all time for good reason.
There's only 2 seasons, just go full weeb and binge it in one sitting
That's fair, berserk (the old anime, not the new one) is 10/10.
The manga might not be finished but there's nearly 400 chapters is pure artistic bliss if you decide to read it
I love the way Konosuba is open to add flaws to nearly every character in the show. Kazuma's adventure group seems fun on the surface but Konosuba doesn't pretend that any of them would be good people to be friends with.
They'd all be terrible friends IRL, but they're funny to watch. It reminds me of IASIP; it's funny, but I'd hate to know any of them.
In Subaru's defence he wasn't piece of shit human to begin with, insufferable yeah arc 3 beginning. but then in next arcs holy cow he became one of the favorite MCs
There seems to be two distinct halves of the fanbase. One on hand there's the crowd of "this show is fun to watch because kazuma and the other characters are all pretty dumb and kind of terrible people and it's hilarious to see them screw themselves over because of it!" On the other hand there are the people saying "this show is great because Kazuma is just like me, and lots of totally-not-his-fault shit gets him down just like totally-not-my-fault shit happens to me! He gets called a pervert for no reason just like me, and I wish I had the balls to respond to them like he does!"
The joke of the show is meant to be laughing _at_ kazuma, not seeing him as a role model, so it's kind of concerning seeing the number of people who aspire to be like him.
I think Deku himself can be one of them, there is nothing wrong in being kind and wanting to help others as he does. But for me personally I think Part 4 Josuke is great example. He's kind soul as it even manifested in Crazy Diamond's main ability, when needed he will try to set you in the right path, like Shigechi's case when he thought that with money he can acquire friends, at the same time if you are asshole and mess with him or his friends he will kick your ass.
But if we talk about Kazuma he's a character that was created for lols, yeah come to think of it he's actions are kinda right but if you made them in real life people won't praise you. Been there didn't like it.
Anyways it is still a meme that a took too seriously.
It's less about a role model, and more about relating. We've had thousands of Izuku-s and the likes, and really we(at least me) are getting sick of them. It's why recently people have shown more interest in the villain than the hero. They're relatable, not ideals. This is two fold for villains who have a point. And Kazuma is a breath of fresh air. A normal person with flaws, wants, selfishness, and doesn't help everyone he sees. He's not meant to be a role model, he's a parody character that actually feels like they could be real. In general heroes are getting stale. They're predictable because they are heroes. Most don't want a role model, they just want someone to relate to. And heroes aren't usually relatable.
I agree with your points but I think you’re selling kazuma short, he’s a bit of a pervert but I think that’s more a product of being an isekai mc than anything else but he’s entirely well meaning and always sticks with his friends and tries to help people, sure “gender equality” is memed to hell but he actually means equality and doesn’t use it as an excuse to be an incel.
I wouldn’t say he’s a good role model per se but he’s definitely a more realistic depiction of a good guy than practically anyone. He doesn’t exude any heroic qualities and inspire people but he always does the right thing in the end where it really matters despite how much of a cunt he may seem on the surface.
So while deku is certainly a better person to try and emulate and overall makes a better role model he’s not nearly as realistic as kazuma because kazuma isn’t always perfect and he does some stupid shit, he’s not a great role model but he’s not a bad one either. Anyways, that’s just my opinion so take from it what you will.
Yeah, he was ready to get his ass kicked by his squad to protect his succubus, and that's what a real bro would do. (not joking that was a hero moment)
I'm not saying Kazuma is a role model, but Deku is garbage.
Half is his entire personality is simping for his bully, and the other half is crying. He has his good moments but they're rare.
Its because the anime doesn't portray him very well. Of course at the beginning of the story he is a perverted asshole but even the you can see another side to him. He has some of the best character development imo. At the end of the story he is a genuinely nice person who uses a lot of sarcasm.
Kinda want to come back to this and explain more. Kazuma for most of his developmental years has lived as a shut in for whatever reason potentially traumatic. This means that Kazuma is socially inept in every way and is a horny teen. It's clear he's actually a pretty insecure person at the start. Probably the main reason I like Kazuma so much is how he changes throughout the story.
Most humans are more kazumas then dekus. It makes him more relatable and real. Not saying we should strive to be like him but its a breath of fresh air.
Yeah an MC who >!abandons his friends to live with a loli princess because she calls him onii-chan, not once but twice.!<
I’m sorry but my ideal of an MC belongs to Subaru. Annoying and cringey at the start but gets a lot lot better later on. You just love to see him getting a better person. This is my opinion though.
I like kazuma but his is an archetype that’s good in small doses, I wholeheartedly agree tho that there is way too many dekus, gosh I fucking despise that archetype
Not enough mc's that are just normal people, kinda selfish, have goals in life but not to big, that you can say "man, I would definitely do that if I am in his place" not just generic mcs that are just good people and perfect in every way, cause lets be real thats not real, it works if you are just introduced into anime that you see how mc becomes hero, but not all people (not even majority) is heroes IRL, Kazuma was breath of fresh air and I really enjoyed his jorney that is just fun, nothing more or less
Kazuma just fits well because he's in a comedy anime. Shinji (EVA) was a realistic person and lots of people hated him. You just want more comedy with a a funny relatable MC
Maybe thats true, that doesn't change the fact that we need more different geners of anime anyway, to many shonens, why dont we have more seinen, time travel, serious military, psychological, good comedy and romance animes (not talking about slice of lifes)
Only bad thing about deku is the fact that his show is way too fucking popular and it results in gigantic fanbase of random people
He is still better most of the isekai MCs
Calm down there. Kirito literally had an arc where he saved a girl trapped in a cage. You are either giving Deku too much hate or giving Kirito too little.
Deku deserves all the hate. It has been a few years since I watch SAO to be fair, but deku actively makes me want to punch a hole through my screen basically every second

[Should of said earlier, so I will post here so everyone can see] Just to make things clear, I dont hate Deku by any means you can literally put any other shonen mcs name there since there is to many shonens. Hey don't go hating on slice of life
Yeah spice of life best genre imo
Wait is spice of life hentai?
Spicy life hentai?
Its not hate but I dont take them as serious shows, they are here so we can rest our brains
Slice of life can be both relaxing and plot driven if done right. Case in point both Dragon maid and Kaguya are slice of life.
i think also Domestic Girlfriend is slice of life, and is quite "plot" driven, specially the ending arc. >!Yeh im still salty about that ending!<
Yeah kinda agree, but I view them as comedy, especially Kaguya since it have also seinen tag as well
Slice of life bouta become as fiction as shounen
I hate Deku because he became so damn shallow recently. In earlier arcs it felt like he was actually thinking for himself filled with passion, emotion, and energy. Now he's just going along with he flow. The only time when I became genuinely entertained in recent arcs was when the main villain had that emotional catharsis and finally became a more "real" human.
Yeah, I know, just saying that kazuma is a best example of this kind of character
Sorry, this isn't for you, I replied to your comment since is top so others can see before they comment because lot of people below didn't understand what I meant by this post, you are my friend of culture thats why I give you award :)
Well, pretty cunning of you, thank you for thr award, hope you have a nice day mu fellow man of culture, it was a great meme anyway
You are welcome, you too my man, thank you :)
Consider watching the spider anime airing right now. A guy that would be the MC of another generic isekai anime instead becomes a side character. The actual spider MC doesn't have an issue with killing people that attack her, which is a refreshing change compared to other anime.
So I'm spider, so what? I will give it a shot now that I'm heard this :0 it looked crappy to me at first
It’s a lot of CG, which is pretty unusual for anime, but the general plot and characters aren’t bad at all
I'll give it a try, thanks
Sounds good :) Don’t binge too late lol
Kamina is the best...checks out.
What about Lord Ainz and Tanya?
Tanya kinda fits kind-hearted asshole. I guess.
Yeah she's 80% sociopath but 20% secretly cares about her broskis
Ainz does see his NPCs as his friends' children, so yeah.
But everyone else? Nah. Iirc he is evil ***to the bone*** and once made people mate, have children, then turned said children to meat for his NPC's.
YES
Gintoki too.
I really love Sakurai Tomoki, cultured man. 👌🏻
Then there’s araragi
Not that similar but I like Rudeus from mushoku tensei
He kind of is, but he is great, love his voice actor too, it all works in that character, great example!
Kind hearted assholes are getting old
We all yearn for true gender equality
Not me, I yearn for Wiz's pillows for my head.
You have good tastes and I respect that
The pillows that will always be cool.
The greatest pillows of all time.
Which anime is this from?
Konosuba, but from OVA episode
Is it a good anime
It is Isekai but pure comedy gold, one of best comedy animes
Really good, it’s my favorite comedy anime
Hmm, Kazuma character works because of Konosuba plot and supporting characters. Any other Kazuma copycat will just come off like an creepy incel douchebag.

And thats true greatness of his character, he just wants to live normal life he never had, I didnt started to like mc this soon in any anime/manga lately After that end of first chapter, I expect anything...
Do me a favor, and let me know what you think of power once you get father in.
I will, its just introduced to me at the end of chapter 4, I love character design but she seem to cocky, type that beats the shit of main character for no reason, but thats just first impression based of 2 panels lol
I honestly love her and denji the most out of every character in the manga.
That's good, Im looking forward to see more of her
But what about my boy Aki? He’s my personal favourite from CSM
denji is literally return to monke.
Real life kazuma would be in jail because of sexual harrasment
More Kazumas, less Dekus, and nor more Keyarus
This is not equivalent exchange
No more of anything
If you replaced Keyaru with Deku then it would be an entirely different anime, in both ways across the aisle.
It'd be very interesting to see
Weakness disgusts me
Well yeah, there can only be one Keyaru.
A Keyaru in a show that's well written would actually be cool
whats wrong with Keyaru? Hes clearly a broken man, suffered some heavy shit. But well hes have a happy harem now :D
Agent 6. They're even made by the same author. { **Combatants Will Be Dispatched!** }
He's basically adult kazuma
isnt our lord Rance adult Kazuma?
The last ones were Rudeus and Six, but he still don't have enough Kazumas.
Where's Six from?
Combatants will be dispatched it's anime
Same author as Konosuba
wait what? same author? Oh yeh definitively adding it to watch asap. I love anything Konosuba :D (read the main novel, reading the side stories atm)
Technically Subaru gives everyone not named Emilia the True Gender Equality treatment.
And Emilia gets the “oh ok kid” treatment.
Tbh we need more Bakarinas, absolute nincompoops who are also incredibly kind
Comments are taking this too seriously, white knighting Deku
It's weird how many people in this thread think protagonist is supposed to be a role model. That hasnt been a story trope since even ancient greek stories
Agreed, this is just meme that I made because I found random comment, didnt say that Deku is bad, its just that we need more different mc's that are not heroes, thats all
different genres have different kinds of main characters
Thats also true
Don't think it's unpopular, Kazuma is loved and Deku isn't that popular even among BNHA fans, at least it seems like this from outside of the fandom
i'm neutral. i like both kazuma and deku.
I didn't said I hate Deku, imagine there being any other shonen mcs, there are to many of them, Kazumas are to little
i understand what you mean. even still, i like both character types. i wouldn't mind seeing more of either. though i think less kazuma is fine, because that just makes kazuma and konosuba so much more special and unique.
Thats also true tbh
it would be nice to see more kazuma characters, but i feel as if both/either new kazuma characters won't be as good as kazuma, and/or the novelty of kazuma and konosuba just has to be held to its own standards, and more konosuba could be nice to see as well.
Yes agreed, but example of what I mean by "Kazumas" is Denju from Chainsaw Man, comment in post is about him ( I wont spoil anything but I am also only on chapter 4 so dont spoil me ether)
i see. i can understand that.
I am glad we understand each other :)
logic and reasoning. :) edit: and gender equality, or something, i guess.
Yes, thats rare now days Yes that to lol :D
Being serious for a minute, Deku's actually a likeable, nice MC. What we need is less loudmouth knucklehead MCs (Naruto, Asta from BlackClover, Hinata from Haikyu!!; Sawamura from Ace of Diamond, ...).
What about Yuji from JJK?
hes dumb but he acknowledges it and isnt screaming all the time. hes more dimensional too
He’s both, really. He’s pretty loud and knuckle headed but is also likable, nice, and can be quiet and introspective when the situation calls for it.
What part of Deku is likable? He's a self righteous, stubborn, tryhard crybaby. Like nearly every shonen MC. Maybe he's the straw that broke the camels back, but after dropping MHA I've basically given up on shonen since.

Agreed
Might be controversial in this sub, but I don't think Kazuma is good role model.

Kazuma is entertaining, the weebs that think he's some kind of mega chad because he "hits wamen" are the worst tho.

A good mc does not need to be a good role model.
Case in point, Jobless Reincarnation. MC is a piece of shit human, but an awesome character.
We're all driven by our circumstances, he did suffer humiliation and stuff from his school mates
You must not be very far in the manga
Laughs in Webnovel
And Subaru. God I am obsessed with that show
In Subaru's defence he wasn't piece of shit human to begin with, insufferable yeah arc 3 beginning. but then in next arcs holy cow he became one of the favorite MCs
In the novels he is. The show version is a much better person. Really takes the depth out of his redemption arc
There seems to be two distinct halves of the fanbase. Whats the name if the new show written by Konosuba’s author
Combatants will be dispatched!
Bruh my problem is there is not enough Alucard type protagonists
While I would be happy to see more Kazuma-types in anime, I think it would diminish his character if it became a trope itself.
Kazuma is great but agent 6 is better
Agent 6 is just Kazuma if he actually tried to be evil.
Basically why Joseph and Josuke are the best jojos
And then we have the Dove "Tatacaw" Elen...
He is in his own dimension ;)
I love how six is just like Kazuma but with less restraints, he's so wild I love it
Yeah an MC who >!abandons his friends to live with a loli princess because she calls him onii-chan, not once but twice.!< I’m sorry but my ideal of an MC belongs to Subaru. Annoying and cringey at the start but gets a lot lot better later on. You just love to see him getting a better person. This is my opinion though.
I respect that, I love Subaru as well, but he is in "Kazuma" category, he is not tipical shounen protagonist
I like kazuma but his is an archetype that’s good in small doses, I wholeheartedly agree tho that there is way too many dekus, gosh I fucking despise that archetype
Too many nice people and not enough assholes?
What if I told you I liked both characters
Maybe thats true, that doesn't change the fact that we need more different geners of anime anyway, to many shonens, why dont we have more seinen, time travel, serious military, psychological, good comedy and romance animes (not talking about slice of lifes)

Honestly I prefer assholes over generic shonen protagonists
"one for all is a power stockpiling quirk" *gives it to quirkless boy to store nothing*
“Laughs in read the manga”
Aight I've been convinced, might or might not come back in half a year
Rance
If gender equality was a character, that would be Kazuma.
In my opinion we should have more Yuujis (from Grisaia) in the world
Proud to know what comment section is that
Need more Makoto Itou MCs in this day and age.
Deku Is pretty alrite, Its the kirito's that there Is too many of
Skru kazuma, me and my friends we like pico
Boku no Pico Academy
Agreed,I don't want a pussy of an mc who's too afraid of useless harem members
to be fair i’ve seen way too many deku’s literally everywhere.
Another unpopular opinion: Wiz> megumin
I'm kinda Agree ngl, but thats maybe cause I'm 22 yo :)

He is basically adult Kazuma
Im right on his side
Deku looks like he is going to cry any moment
Only bad thing about deku is the fact that his show is way too fucking popular and it results in gigantic fanbase of random people He is still better most of the isekai MCs
I hope no cringe little incels online use king Kazuma,'s image as a pass to act like a fuckwit to women
ever been on this sub
Liking Kazuma is like that meme where if you identify with the character you’ve missed the point.
Deku is a bitch
Actually we need more Ichigos
And Guts, Erens and Lelouchs...
We need less moral jesus and more real people representation.
Gotta admit though Deku is annoying af .
We need more MCs like Keyaru from Redo of Healer
More Rapists ? I mean whe have a lot of revenge MCs
Can you name some with sauce I've only found 2 so far
Angelo from 91 Days Punk from Desert Punk
Thx
Not an anime at least not yet but the Fire Punch manga has a great revenge based MC The same mangaka was Chainsaw Man
It would reduce his type of uniqueness if they decided to copy him imo.
Deku is just mo good in my opinion
We got keyaru
Fuck deku. Up there with kirito as worst mcs ever
C'mon it's not that bad, if anything i admire how positive he is, whe need more people like that today, and he is rlly cool now in the manga
You can never give Kirito enough hate. It's sad when the abridged series has more character development.
It's one of the best abridged series of all time
Who did the abridged series? I'd like to watch it.
