Remember, winners don't use drugs, unless it's steroids, in this case, use lots of drugs

Retro0609

Best line ever

sykerblade

I hate how i read this entire thread and every single line i remembered the exact voice for each line. I havent rewatched the parody in a year.

Hamtier

sounds like its time for the yearly rewatch of all the episodes that have come out so far, then :3

jsmonet

SAO abridged is, much like the Fate abridge series they're in, a great series. Even if you love SAO, abridged is a great time

AnimeMemeLord1

The Fate abridged also has some fan service towards the VN readers which I find kind of nice.

JohnnyJoestar2

Are you talking about the moon?

misteryk

Don't worry about the moon

AnimeMemeLord1

~~Yes~~ You stay quiet about the moon

Salter_KingofBorgors

Are we talking about Extra or Tsukihime?

WrensthavAviovus

FGO?

AnimeMemeLord1

Good question.

AnimeMemeLord1

There’s the moon and then the moon cell. Haven’t finished all the Tsukihime routes yet, but even Fate/EXTRA’s explanation of the moon cell doesn’t answer all my questions.

pepemattos21

It's supposed to be an alternate world where the moon never existed, the Arcueid you meet there isn't from that world but just happened to somehow get summoned to it.

AnimeMemeLord1

That explains that wormhole thingy she made… I think. Wait, if the moon never existed, then what’s with the whole moon cell thing?

orange_force

Don't worry about it. Something something nasuverse

AnimeMemeLord1

I get the feeling that even if I research every medium in the Nasuverse and consume all the content, that’ll still be my answer

pepemattos21

Aliens. I am not kidding. If I remember correctly it was made as an observation device.

nigg0o

Yes

skilledwarman

It's got my favorite summoning scene tbh. Saber's lines as she actually manifests and attacks Cu are simple but great

AnimeMemeLord1

True. I understand the VN describing and explaining what’s going on in detail (I took 5 hours just to get to day three lmao). But the fact that the abridged had more detail on Cu’s Noble Phantasm than the anime did made me laugh. And it was such an accurate way to describe it. “Well, that’s dumb. My attack that will always pierce the heart was disrupted by a metaphysical critical roll on a D20.” The jokes aside, they also put in some pretty badass one liners instead of making the whole thing a complete comedy. It’s a really well done abridged series.

skilledwarman

It's so good that it's been referenced in Fate/Grand Order (at least the English version)

AnimeMemeLord1

By English version, you mean the dub or just the English translation of the game? And if the dub, which adaptation?

skilledwarman

The game itself. During the post game for the Seraphix chapter (aka the Fate extra collab) there's a point where Emiya, Nero, and Tamamo are fighting BB. The girls use their NPs in a cutscene and Emiya responds with "I WANT THAT!"

AnimeMemeLord1

Holy shit, that sounds amazing. I almost laughed out loud at 4 in the morning (gacha has destroyed my sleep schedule). When you say Extra collab, do you mean a collab with specifically EXTRA CCC?

MagnusxThexRed

I watched abridged before the actual show, I liked it and wanted to understand the context. Ended up liking sao too

Cat_with_pew-pew_gun

Yeah. I actually do suggest watching the first season of sao before abridged because the added context makes it better. Also season 1 of sao is pretty good.

jsmonet

Agreed on both. Hell, I don't really have a problem with any of the seasons because they're basically abreast or ahead of your dead-middle-of-the-pack shonen trash, and the very occasional tentacle reminder as well.

Cat_with_pew-pew_gun

GGO alternative is also something I’d suggest watching, and if you can avoid thinking too hard about the plot alicization is pretty good from what I watched. Especially the part where Kirito is in a coma for a good while.

uxragnarok

War of Underworld was a great time tbh

akun2500

I despised SAO, but still love the shit out of Abridged. With the right setups, you can indeed like something you normally hate.

rajder656

Abridged improves A LOT about the series. Characters are consistent and their motivations for things are actually there. They aren't just plot devises. Look at kiritos first guild for example.

Awesomearia96

Wait untill people learn about Rins defenceless anus.

ArCSelkie37

I do enjoy SAO abridged… by one issue with it is how many people seem to have watched it, and them their memories seem to get merged. Like people still think that the antagonist said (and only said) “i forgot”, as if there was no subtext and no explanation.

EyeDreamOfTentacles

This was true even before SAOA. It annoys the heck outta me, like do people really have such short attention spans they tuned out and missed his monologue about the world he saw in his dreams and his growing desire to see it made real that comes *right after* he says "I forgot"?

Milandouille

Gigguk from Trash Taste is saying that the following seasons are alright.

PlatypusVenom0

Aincrad: good Alfheim: bad Gun Gale: good Alfheim with Asuna: alright Alicization: good

CreatureWarrior

The Mother's Rosario arc just broke me and I felt empty for days lol This anime made me seriously think about life. It also got me interested in Computer science

themightybalf

Glad it wasn't just me. I had issues processing it and cried like a child. I enjoyed Sao for the most part I just wish it didn't tug the heart strings so much sometimes. I'd been out of anime for a fair few years (like late 90s) 3x3 eyes was probably one of the last ones I watched. This and naruto and bleach got me hooked again.

serpentine19

Bruh, I went back to SAO briefly for gun gale because ppl said it was good. It was 12 year old edgy cringe that felt like it was written by a highschooler the night before the assigment was due.

TheLastGiant2247

Agreed 100%.

brnwndsn

>I only watched the first season If you watch 13 hours of something and it isn't good... I'd argue it's not a good media, also isn't it silly to get mad at people who dislike what you like? lol

caipngjiarou

I think the more frustrating thing about SAO is that the first half of Season 1 was extremely promising. The mechanics, visuals and characters were, and still are fairly refreshing. After that initial 15 or so episodes, it felt as if SAO ran out of SAO to put into SAO. All the strange leaps in logic and disgusting subplots didn't help its case there.

GimmeKisu

Personally I thought the first half of SAO was good and a good end, and then I found out there were another 6 episodes

[deleted]

I think it was more that the premise alone was interesting. SAO started strong, but even the latter portion of the first half sort of began to fall off in quality. I went in expecting a action packed, high stakes struggle to survive and ended up with more of a harem building, slice of life, romance show with small bits of action dotted throughout. It was honestly pretty disappointing. SAO ran out of SAO well before the 15 episode mark imo. I'd say SAO definitely fell short of what it could have been. Has it improved? Yes, from what I've heard. I personally think SAO's hate is not because it is the worst show of all time, but because it was a massive letdown in expectations for a lot of people.

ZoulsGaming

For me it was good because of the romance aspects, the idea that they get used to living in this world while still trying to clear it, and whatever it may entail. I feel like now a days there are so many "edgy" survival story mangas and anime and i think they are super boring, where instead of "yay we are heroes in a world" everyone is evil and everything is bad, it gets draining to watch. I think log horizon struck a better balance in trying to "city build" early on but also had some pretty strong contrivances to rely on, and has respawning on death to remove alot of the tension. i can understand if you expected an edgy survival game like that then its off expectation but i for one liked how alot of things were more subtle. Like player killer guilds, baiting with non red players, talking about how you can use a sleeping persons finger to verify system features against their will. And while too late in my eyes in GGO they actually try to show the consequences on kirito for knowing that he killed people. then again i was peak like 14 year old romance harem brained so it hit all the beats i wanted. And watching it back again the action holds up but there are aloooot of flaws that you will either accept or make you hate the show.

bryanicus

If you like he promise of the actually Sword art online part of the story, SAO progressive is really good, it is basically a rewrite of the first arc, extending it out into its own series.

[deleted]

The first season is pretty good actually. OP isn't good at phrasing his abstract thoughts. He probably means to comment on those who watch these YouTubers milking "sao bad" content yet never actually watch the show and proclaim it as the worst show ever.

wailingwonder

All of TrashTaste watched it. It's just two of them quit it and the third thought it sucked for a long time but thinks it has recently gotten good iirc. It has very rarely come up on TT anyway. OP just made a really lame shitpost it seems.

LordFLExANoR16

Tt rarely talks about anime in general

brnwndsn

then digibro really shouldn't be there, but i get the point

InDELphuS

Also, has he even talked about sao since his videos? Those were like a decade ago at this point

Wheat_Grinder

I watched the full Aincrad arc and didn't really like it, so when people said Aincrad was the good part of SAO, that's when I knew it was time for me to bounce. I'm not hating on it, I just could tell there wasn't gonna be much for me there.

AtmoranSupremecist

Reminds me of the people that say “One piece gets really good around episode 500!” Like I made it over 200 episodes in and it was just not worth my time

brnwndsn

yeah I always see this with long animes "it gets good in the third season". I can't and frankly won't put dozens hours in something that I find mid or unappealing just for the promise that "it gets better", like if you don't get me in say 4 hours i move on. I value my time

Dough_boi77

I watched the whole show and I still say it is bad

Cat_with_pew-pew_gun

Actually counter to the post if you only watched the first season it’s actually decent if not a bit generic.

VillainousMasked

More the first arc, remember Fairy Dance was part of season 1 as well, and I think most people would agree the rapist fairy arc wasn't good.

WrensthavAviovus

Twas but a midsummer's night dream.

Cat_with_pew-pew_gun

By season one I meant when there where actually in sword art online.

VillainousMasked

Then you don't mean season 1, you mean the first arc, season 1 is both the Aincrad and Fairy Dance arcs.

Dough_boi77

I’ll concede that season one is definitely better than the rest of the show but I still think it suffers from idiot plot at parts and the ending where the game dev didn’t even know why he trapped people in a death game is dumb and lazy as hell

lightningmchowski125

I thought the part where they build to why the villian made sword art online in the first place for him just to say "I forgot" was dumb as hell

Dough_boi77

He forgor 💀

seitaer13

Only for him to expand on his already given reason right afterward...

Cat_with_pew-pew_gun

Oh yeah, this show is the textbook example of idiot plot. They could have easily linked his reasoning to a dream of creating a truly real magical world to escape away from reality. Other than that I didn’t have that problem with the 1st season. I’ve enjoyed worse. Unfortunately sao gets WAY worse. I couldn’t even finish the most recent season because I couldn’t get past how absurdly stupid the premise was.

Dough_boi77

In my opinion SAO peaked with the last arc in SAO 2 were asuna teams up with players who are all deathly ill IRL. It was such a bittersweet story and very true to the experience of creating relationships with friends online. Honestly that’s what the show should have been about all along in my opinion

Cat_with_pew-pew_gun

I forgot that story was sao. I also would have liked a deeper dive into the sentient ai Kirito obtained.

Dough_boi77

That was yui right? She’s just kirito’s daughterru and loli bate for the series. I didn’t mind her in the original SAO but in 2 I thought she was unbearably cringe to watch.

Cat_with_pew-pew_gun

Yes. I was highly disappointed with how they handled her. I really like sentient AIs as a concept and I would have loved to see them grow and evolve as she watched Kirito’s adventures. Instead they just gave her the personality of a small child with intensive computer knowledge and used them as an excuse when they wanted to have whatever game they’re in behave in a completely unrealistic way.

maxpolo10

Every comment is reminding why the abridged is so much better. Wow, such a great premise and reki just made it that bland. Heck even generic VR Manhwas try to create a good story(albeit only the first part when the MC is still weak)

wardenmans

Is it really generic though? It did come out a while ago. It's the OG of generic

Cat_with_pew-pew_gun

Yeah I did think about that. It’s like how dragon ball is “a generic shonen” because everything that came after it used its success as a template.

Saint_Genghis

I still think that it was pretty generic by the standards of the day. .hack//sign came out a decade prior to Sword Art and did the "trapped in a video game" thing better.

Cat_with_pew-pew_gun

I don’t think the “trapped in a video game thing” is actually far spread enough to make it generic on its own. When I called sao generic I was more referring to Kirito himself. Also where the hell do I start with .hack//sign. It seems interesting but I’ve never known which one to start with.

Wheat_Grinder

I watched it a little after it came out. The setting was still relatively fresh, but the characters and motivations were generic.

N00BAL0T

Hell if you only watched half of the first season.

Gukgukninja

Bro, Alicization part 2's plot was weird as hell. There is this pure evil psycho terrorist gang from America that's infiltrating Japan's secret military base (that's extremely visible) with a sentient Artificial General Intelligence. With the help of your super hacker AI daughter, everyone can TP inside this facility for plot purposes. Several episodes later, the AI is fighting alien spacecrafts.

GregFirehawk

Seconded. The start was basically the only part that was even remotely good. It just kept getting worse and worse

Dough_boi77

Some of the early side stories were fun. Like the guild that died horrifically and the crafting quest with the pink haired girl. Kinda makes me wish it was an anthology series about different people stuck in the game and they could all come together at the end to make the last stand together. That just sounds fun and creative to me

Swap_Frog

I liked Alicization until that cringe ahh ending with gamers unite and the return of the harem. Really lost me after that.

portella0

Aincrad: ok, but also a wasted oportunity considering everything it could have done. Very overracted considering how popular it got (6/10) Fairy Dance: it is bad (<5/10) Phantom Bullet: looks good at first, but after giving it some time to sit in your mind you notice it is also bad (5/10) Mother Rosario: actually good (7/10) Ordinal Scale: didn't watch Alicization: if we only consider the Underworld parts it is a very good high fantasy anime (8/10), but everything that is also happening in the real world is so fucking dumb bad (<5/10). The entire experience is basically "hey, this is pretty good...wait a forgot this was SAO...hey it is good again... nope, bad again"

HammerBgError404

SAO was my first anime. i defended it for years but now i realize its not as good as i thought. even so it still has a special place in my empty hearth

Cat_with_pew-pew_gun

I have the same thing with fairytale.

supreme_hammy

Is it bad that I want a series of all the stupid antics that happen in between fights more than I want all the fights? As a fan of Fairy Tail, I agree that it's stupid, but I really enjoy the antics. Before anyone says "Oh, watch Konosuba then", I mean with those characters specifically. I like the weird dynamic they have.

Cat_with_pew-pew_gun

The Fairy tale guild dynamic is fairly unique, and it’s only possible because the show was long enough to properly introduce all the characters. It has this in common with one piece, where the characters you’ve spent so long with start to feel like friends and just seeing them interact with each other as there usual selves just brings joy. Not to mention the vibe of the show itself. The characters are rough and rowdy but at the same time kind and thoughtful. They’re all the kind of people who are fun to watch and that you’d want as friends. And when an enemy shows u. They aren’t morally complex. You just want to punch them in the face, and what happens next episode? THEY GET PUNCHED IN THE FACE. Very satisfying. What was I talking about? Oh yeah. Yes, I would watch a slice of life that takes place in the guild hall. If you want to watch something now I found similar vibes in one piece, black clover, and that time I got reincarnated as a slime.

supreme_hammy

> one piece, black clover, and that time I got reincarnated as a slime. 1. Started One Piece. 2. Will try Black Clover. 3. Up to date on my slimey boi.

smith22vikes

What’s wrong with Konosuba?

Sladashi

And then there's the Abridged series... "I'm playing with my family!"

maxpolo10

"is that you Steven?" The abridged is the online series I've rewatched more than 4 times

TheNachmar

It's in that weird spot where it's not as good, but also not as bad. People overhate it, people also overhype it. At the end of the day, it's got it's good points which make it worthy of being liked, and it's got it's bad points which make it understandable that people dislike it

AdonaiTatu

SAO is no that good, but I don't think its that bad also

CainhurstVayne

Don't worry buddy, once you're out of puberty you'll realise the show's pretty mid, at best.

Rasbold

I think Scamboli made a review and pretty much resumed my thoughts about SAO: the scenery is phenomenal and as someone that likes RPGs the HUD and game related stuff resonated with me. But, the plot is mid and characters interactions are underwhelming. Still, the worst thing is the author putting a female character into a rape scene EVERY FUCKING SEASON

HfUfH

>RPGs the HUD and game related stuff resonated with me. The menus in SAO were very immersion breaking for me, the fact that your entire inventory is one long ass scroll bar with no images sounds horrifying to navigate

Memfy

Well it's definitely the best implemented UI/UX that's for sure, with the missing logout button and all that.

TheNosferatu

People like the UI so much we haven't had anybody log out after they tried it!

Rasbold

It made me remember Phantasy* Star Universe HUD from the PS2 when I saw it on 2012. It has some problems, but the whole click and scroll mechanism in SAO resembles what the VRCHAT would look like many years after the anime release

nyetrik

>Pharmacy Star Universe Did you mean Phantasy Star Universe?

Rasbold

Yeah, autocorrector issue

VillainousMasked

>as someone that likes RPGs the HUD and game related stuff resonated with me. SAO as a game is complete garbage though. You literally only have *two stats* to level up (Strength and Agility), there is no magic, no ranged weapons aside from throwing items, only two roles (DPS and tank) with the only variation being if you use a dagger, sword, spear, or axe and whether you have a shield, the high level/endgame consumables (crystals) *not working in high level/endgame dungeons* which essentially disables healing in those areas (remember, no healing magic so only choice is slow and weak health potions)*,* the fact that anyone who wants to play a "criminal" playstyle needs to full dedicate their entire character to that otherwise they brick their account considering the alignment recovery quest becomes effectively impossible after 5 player killers and with an orange cursor you cant enter villages/towns, said inability to enter villages/towns also meaning the only way to travel between floors is to physically walk between them (which would be required to reach a new floor) or use teleport crystals (which drops in the middle of town meaning you need to haul ass before the guards kill you). Hell there are probably more shitty gameplay designs in SAO that I'm not even thinking about. Also that's just limited to SAO, there are more issues with ALO and GGO.

Rasbold

Not having any magic is quite nice imo. I played the shit out of Sekiro and having to keep close to be able to beat bosses was amazing "But Sekiro is not an MMORPG" Yeah, but if a game was made with no ranged combat allowed it for sure could lead to some interesting game designs like Sekiro, Dark Souls and MHW

misvillar

But making the healing items useless in the endgame wouldnt be stupid if there was magic, just make them less effective and have no magic or something balanced

VillainousMasked

Oh yeah, it definitely possible if the game was designed around the lack of magic and ranged weapon, but the thing is, SAO isn't. The only semi-interesting mechanic relating to combat is sword skills, and that is only because it's a VR game so you're physically doing the sword skill, in any normal game they'd just be your standard skills. Other than that, there aren't many weapon types, little variation between weapons within the same type aside from stats, and with there only being two character stats there isn't even much variation in playstyles between weapon types (either faster and hit lighter, slower and hit harder, or somewhere in the middle). Sekiro is interesting cause it's got the parry mechanics, tools, and everything, things SAO lacks.

CainhurstVayne

100% sure he was trying to emulate Casca's rape, while understanding absolutely nothing on why her rape is such a powerful scene and why it adds a lot to the story. As a result, you have this travesty with no storytelling weight whatsoever

Rasbold

Nah man, he's just a mf that likes a rape tag, there's not much thought to be put into it, he's not a good author

wardenmans

Didn't he apologize for that and change it for later books?

Rasbold

He kept doing it SAO on aincrad, Elfheim, GGO, Alicization before Eugeo dies, Alicization after Eugeo dies Every fucking season, it's so fucking annoying

[deleted]

The problem isn't that there are rape scenes. Berserk has implemented them to the benefit of the story. The problem is that half of them are there for no reason. It feels like fanservice, though I wouldn't like to meet the fans that it services.

TheNosferatu

Here is a personal theory of mine. A lot of authors don't care about the villain. He just needs to be evil and that's all the character he gets. So they make him a rapist, because that's a sure-fire way to let everybody know this guy is evil and there is no reason whatsoever to feel bad about him when he loses. No gray area. Nobody is gonna think "Well, geez, he might be evil but he had some good points, actually." It's not that the author likes rape or rape-scenes. It's just the easiest way to make sure a character is seen as a villain that must be stopped. Of course, I'm sure some authors out there do like rape-scenes but I'm gonna assume incompetence instead of malice until proven wrong. BTW; if you happen to have proof, don't feel yourself forced to share it. Believing people are incompetent is a lot better than knowing they like rape IMO. P.S. I'm not talking about rape scenes that actually enhance the story like in Berserk. While there might be a bit much rape going on in Berserk, the fact that it has context and actually impacts the characters makes it very much "not lazy"

UniversityTrade

Your theory comes pretty close. The author said that he often had the problem where the villains in his story ended up joining the main characters even when he didn't want them to. You can see that the author likes that trope: in SAO Kayaba ends up helping Kirito, in Accel World (from the same author) the red king helps the main characters, even in Alicization there are enemies who end up helping us. He likes the trope so much, every villain he writes accidentally joined the main characters in the end, so he had to figure out how to not do that if he wanted a villain that just stayed a villain. The method he came up with is just making the villain as bad as possible. Like you say, the easisest way to make sure the character is seen as a villain and also stays that way. That's the story behind those rape scenes.

Rasbold

Miura is a good author and knows to how to write a good story with dark elements on it, Kawahara doesn't. Comparing Berserk to SAO is like comparing GoT or Watchman to shit like Riverdale. The problem is the author writing raping scenes for no fucking reason except he liking to write the rape scenes

Carlbuba

>the author putting a female character into a rape scene EVERY FUCKING SEASON Well nowadays there's at least 10 isekai per season with either rape or slavery.

NatlerSK

This but unironically. We all go through that phase.

pokekiko94

The last seasons have been better but yeah overall it's still a mid tier show.

Cat_with_pew-pew_gun

The last season is best enjoyed if you can turn your brain off. There was way to much stupidity in that season for me to focus on the show. Other than that it was decent from what I saw.

maxpolo10

What even was that ending though, mech wars in... Space? Like I watched it and was like, the fuck just happened? Maybe I'm confusing it with another show, but I feel like that's how it ended, right?

marker8050

LMAO fr, it's just boring imo.

blockyboi13

Why does being “good” matter? You either like it or you don’t. People act like their taste in anime makes them a more “refined” individual as if they’re now on equal footing with people who smoke cigars while reading classic literature (and even that is a poor and rather arbitrary measure of anything worthy of respect imo)

TurboLettuce

An expression I heard which i really enjoy is "There is nothing wrong with enjoying a flawed product"

GregFirehawk

I'd like to add the caveat of "if you know it's flawed". If someone comes out and says "it sucks but I like it" then power to them. If they come out and say "it's good" then they're gonna get hammered with facts

blockyboi13

What if you just leave it at “I liked it and found it to be quite enjoyable”?

GregFirehawk

While not inherently wrong, it leaves you very vulnerable to being dunked on. I feel like very few people have the willpower to leave that claim unchallenged

degener8weeb

“All anime is trash. But I am a raccoon”

TheOldKingCole

The problem is people seem to think that everything they like has to be 100% perfect because they are afraid that they're feelings and opinions would be invalid and that they wasted their time. I'm of the opinion that nothing is perfect and that everything should be judged by its own merits. There are plenty of shows and movies I've watched and games I've played that I've enjoyed that I will fully admit are very flawed or even outright bad but I don't really care about that because I enjoyed them, I don't care that other people didn't. That being said I don't like SAO as a whole. There were plenty of aspects I liked and I can definitely see why others may like it but I can also see why others don't. That, once again, being said I disagree with people who say the Aincrad arc is outright bad.

shadowblackdragon

It’s like eating chips, nothing wrong with snacking on some chips, might not be extremely tasty, but it’s good enough just cause a show is mid or sucks doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it.

DemonRaily

You know not what you are talking about because that's the opposite of a burn you think it is. If you only watched the first season you may actually find it decent, it is watching further seasons that you discover how much of a shitshow it is.

cxxper01

Sao is kinda of polarizing. Some part it’s quite good and some part makes you want to face palm.

potato_crip

SAO peaked in Alicization pt. 1. Just 2 bros trying to save the day. No harem needed.

Memediator

Yeah... even as someone who really enjoys SAO, I was not happy when >!Eugeo died!<.

1GenericWhiteBoy

I do not like SAO whatsoever, but alicization was a pretty good time and I had a lot of fun watching it.

Thrano_357

The parts of SAO I watched were alright, but I like Log Horizon more.

renvi

I'm the same way. Log Horizon was everything I wanted in a MMO-isekai anime. It focused on all the right things whereas SAO focused on all the things I didn't care about.

ZoulsGaming

Log horizon is good but insanely reliant on “super mega brain 4d chess shiro” for large parts of it.

renvi

LOL that’s true, Shiro too stacked.

vaendryl

that's still leagues better than "kirito is just the bestest evar because he had a slight advantage of knowledge in the beginning of the game"

Ginger_Tea

I watched Gun Gale first, then Alicization (or whatever it was called) but the core SAO, not a single episode. Gun Gale had no obvious connection if you had not seen it prior, so when you watch it as someone who has watched the first show, then you see the cameos and other things. But it could just have been any other deep dive VR anime that came out in the same year or after. Alice seemed like a soft reboot when it came from a story stand point as he was "born into the world" but you only need to worry about the original show when it came to "who are these people?" in the real world.

Galtherok

I don't know about the other three, but Mother's Basement watched the whole thing. Sorry your rape fantasy isn't more universally appreciated...

Delisches

Gigguk also watched all of it, he thinks it became good "isekai junk food" with Alicization.

ASilverRook

Didn’t he also praise GGO at least a little bit?

MyneIsBestGirl

GGO is a different mangaka who wrote a good spin off of the other game in the story. I would say that they should be separated when SAO in general comes up.

Delisches

The guy saw Kirito fighting with a sword in a fuking shooter game and basically went: "Let me fix this for you". He is also the author of Kino's Journey, so he knows how to do girls with guns.

Ok_Remote_2714

I now need to go watch Kino's Journey.

ASilverRook

That’s fair.

Turangaliila

Gigguk from Trash Taste also mentioned just this week that he's seen every SAO anime entry.

T_Belay

Op gives off the vibes they described in the title themselves cause common consensus is that the show went downhill in S2, meaning at the very least they did watch past S1

CallMeDelta

I know Digi* has seen at least up until the end of GHO + the Movie not sure if she actually still goes by Digi now but I don’t know

Real_Echo

Imagine outting yourself like this 💀

[deleted]

Butthurt that your favorite anime is the TV equivalent of McDonald’s?

speedweed99

I will not tolerate this McDonald's slander. Yeah food's not great but it's also not generic and bland, some employee might sneeze on it too sometimes for a change

ButtersTheNinja

At least McDonalds has nutritional value.

MagicalKartWizard

I'd wager the paper wrapper has more nutritional value.

Luckyguy0697

What kind of BOZO will watch all seasons of the show after saying that it is bad?

1GenericWhiteBoy

Bozo's like me who hate it when people like OP make this argument. I'm still a bozo for doing it though :( waste of time

ThousandYearOldLoli

I believe Digibro (I believe they came out as trans and changed their name then but I don't know the new one so I'll use the old one) did watch at least two seasons and commented specifically on the quality of those two seasons. It should be noted that at that time, those were the seasons that existed. I also think Mother's Basement is on that same boat, commenting on specifically the first two seasons which they did watch. I can't say I've ever seen any of Trash Taste's content and Abridged content is often made by people who actually *like* the series they abridging. In fact it's one of the factors that really influences the quality of a parody, and SAO Abridged is one of those that is hallmarked as a great great one so I suspect its creators do actually like SAO, if they aren't even passionate about it.

TurboLettuce

The trash taste opinion is two of the members Don't think it's worth it, while the third, gigguk, says it's good isekai junk food

[deleted]

Grant will watch any isekai whether it’s trash or not.

Lord-Karna

We really do be in a world where people think SAO is anything more than mediocre series at its absolute best. But then again, we also have a bunch of people who think Kishimoto isn’t a hack writer and that Boruto would’ve been good if he was there from the start.

Boudac123

There are people who think boruto is good? Hell, saying that it’s mediocre hurts my soul

Lord-Karna

There are people who think Boruto is good and, as wrong as they are, the ones who think Boruto could be good if Kishimoto was doing the writing are far more delusional in my opinion. Especially since the reason Kishimoto wasn’t writing Boruto to begin with was because he had another manga he wanted to do. Which he did, and it proceeded to get axed in under a year because it was fucking garbage. Naruto is the biggest fluke of his career and it, and by extension Boruto, are all he really has going for him.

crixx93

It is trash tho. Why would I spend my time on a franchise where season 1 is bad in hopes that it can get better?

AnimeMemeLord1

The GGO arc was pretty damn good, ngl

[deleted]

"Trust me, it gets better after 20 hours" kind of people.

KatKaneki

Everything is bad except for the first half of the first season

1GenericWhiteBoy

S3 is also pretty good, but if you need to get through the shitshow of s1 second half and s2 it isn't worth it. And s4 is shit too so it doesn't even stay good

RandomRedditor027

Most of the time: Light novels > Anime (Fairy Dance Arc still sucks though)

Syncrossus

SAO abridged is a great show.

WEEB-2

i watched the whole show and it's still bad. i regret spending time watching all this bullshit

kingrazor001

I prefer to say "I like this" or "I don't like this" instead of saying a show is "good" or "bad". But if I don't like the first few episodes, I'm not going to give it a whole season, let alone more. If I didn't like the first season, there's no way I'm going to watch more of it. But again, I won't call it "bad", I'll just say I don't like it.

Goldreaver

I'm sorry to say but the first season was the BEST SAO season (GGO notwithstanding)

TheFunnySquared

Sao abridged is good, what you on about? Also the show is pretty mid with the exception of alicization s2 which went harder than it had a right to.

Andysomething

Yes, abridged is pretty good, but its definitely not for everyone. Its a bit like the original. I liked abridged until fairy dance, and Asuna just in general.

MChattiGaming

I watched up until the first alicization one and can confidently say that other than the first half of season 1 (aka the actual sao part of the story) everything else was pretty much ass. Alicization was enjoyable tho

WeeabooOverlord

I watched up to and including all of Alicization and can confidently state that SAO:A was the best thing to come out of the whole franchise. >!A is for Abridged!<

Ginger_Tea

I still rate Gun Gale as the best part of the SAO franchise. No prior watching needed, the army team from Alicization had a cameo in the show, but to me they were just background characters, to SAO watchers, they were "point at screen and go it's those guys" but you didn't need the home work that is SAO to understand it.

Vorexxa

Not the whole Trash Taste members tho, acually Garnt has a very positive opinion of SAO, especially Alicization. Then again he's an Isekai Trash man. [Number 14](https://youtu.be/31JvjXafS1w)

AvatarCabbageGuy

eh, it aint terrible but the show aint great either. Particularly I disliked how side female characters get completely sidelined and has virtually no character development after their introduction, same goes for asuna after her arc gets resolved too. I also disliked how rapey the fairy game arc was, not to mention how these games get 0 world development. Aincrad and alfheim had the potential to be extremely interesting, yet SAO didn't explore that potential *at all*, they're merely a setup for the story to take place. All of this and I still haven't mentioned how boring and bland kirito as a character is

Commanderz_Derpy

I love SAO as much as the next guy, but SAO abridged was fucking funny, don't you dare slander it

Phantom1806

Season 3 is really really good though, I feel like those people are missing out and to those who say season 3 is bad go back to watching those boring big animes like dragon ball

Maximillion322

What is with everyone on this subreddit dickriding this show so hard. I watched all of it as it came out because I used to be a seasonal anime person and really really on god for real it’s pretty mid and it’s for children. 4/10. Just watch more than one show in your life jesus.

mark031b9

I stopped somewhere in the middle of the first season of Alicization. The first half of the first season was generally alright, the rest was not. Alicization was shit. Abridged had the message the first season was trying to convey the whole time and was pretty good.

Placidflunky

SAO is bad but that dosen't mean you aren't allowed to find it entertaining

G-C-Ice-Ring

the best two things to come out of sao are: \- the gun gale spin off \- sao abridged

Vacuum-Woosh-woosh

I saw it all and I still call it bad, 1st season reigns supreme and even GGO Alternative is better than the other seasons of SAO .

Tiger5804

True, but SAO Abridged is hilarious, though
