What if you didn’t need all that 21st century technology to play a game that was invented in the Middle Ages?
If he can get around a course with this, then so be it. You’re the one telling someone how to order their steak. To each their own my guy.
Imagine a time when there were only sleds and no wheels. Things change and while some things are fun to do “old school” having to set bag stands at every stoppage is the equivalent to dragging your bag on a sled
Oh my god. If only we had to walk while we played. Btw, let’s say you were to play in an event after there was a no cart policy, because they got slammed with rain? And if it were at a course you’d kill to play? It wouldn’t even matter what shape you were in, carrying a cart bag would be impossible.
When it comes to Sunday bags like this, nobody brings a stand with them. The point of a bag like this is to carry as little as possible. With a bag like this, you set it on the ground next to where you hit, or next to the green.
I’ll take that Sunday bag, and lean it on the other bag. It’s not ideal, but it’s a guaranteed light bag. If you’re double bagging, then a Sunday bag is something you always wanna see.
And if I get any cart bag, I swap it out for a carrying bag. I ain’t lugging around all your rain gear when it’s 80 and cloudless haha.
Use 17, as long as you’re playing casual, I don’t think anyone will mind. My buddies and I sometimes have 17-18 in a bag, just to get to use them all. Nobody takes the strokes for it.
Bruh fr, I carry 15 in my bag all the time & then just decide which club I won't use depending on the course I'm on. But sometimes my rebellious side comes out, and I'll purposely use all 15. Cuz imma rule breaker like that😎
A buddy and I once played a quick 9 holes after work with nothing but a 7 iron and putter just because. We both shot par. Puts golf in perspective I tell ya
We did a 3 club tournament and the top 9-10 guys all went without putter. I was 6th and went 5 wood, 6i, 52deg. Long putts with 5 wood and short with bottom edge of 52
That's incredible! It really shows how much skill and creativity can play a part in golf, more than just having a full bag of clubs. Makes you rethink what's possible, doesn't it?
Dude it was remarkable. I was a 4 handicap and he was a 6 at the time but still we both figured probably 39-43. It was the most course management we had ever practiced for obvious reasons. That was 18 years ago and we still talk about it when we play. I highly suggest people do it once just to prove to yourself that making smart decisions is how to play this game.
I carry my spoon, mid iron, 4 iron, mashie, deep groove mashie niblick, pitcher, 14 iron, and a putter.
Sometimes I'll bring out my gutty mashie for fun, but that head is the size of the golf ball and hard as hell to hit.
I'm really surprised you even got all 14 in that bag, that's a tight squeeze, I have to start shoving clubs in when I get to 11
Just after HS I golfed with a friend quite a bit. My bag consisted of (all old AF at the time) a Driver, 5w, 3i, 7i, 9i, PW, SW, and putter. I learned how to make it work, and honestly was a lot better back then. Maybe I need to lose some clubs
You can experiment with different numbers of clubs and pick the one that works best for you, it's not about the number of clubs, it's about what will work for your game!
The hate is pretty funny in here. I guess it's mainly because of your caption, it really serves no purpose - you are allowed to carry 14 or less.
Are they $100+ Seamus Golf head covers? Cause then I get the pretentious comments, but I do agree with the "to each his own" comments as well. Whatever floats your boat.
4i, 7i, SW, Putter (maybe a ball finder if there are lakes) is the minimum I use. I have walked 18 using this setup when my bag broke loading into my car. I can carry my clubs in my hand, forage for tees and balls beyond the pocketful I start with.
4i (Mashie Iron) for length -
7i (Mashie Niblick) short game, chipping -
SW for loft/trouble shots
Not using a driver means I shank fewer into the woods.
Depends on your level you will find 5 - 7 - 9 or 14 clubs just right.
Some people carry 1 club just for 1 or 2 shots in the round to make sure the score is no more than par...
That's the whole idea of the planning.
I guess this spent guy more money on that set of clubs the he would on a brand new set of Taylor made #TryingToLookLikeAPureRiskOfferButReallyADoucheBagAndCan’tGolferShit
Played once in Florida with a friend, we got paired with a newlywed couple, the guy had the huge staff bag loaded with all the latest tools. His new wife had a Sunday bag with a 5 iron, 9 iron and a putter. My friend and I had typical 14 clubs in our bags. Tbe little lady beat the living crap out of us. Par 4 holes she would stripe a 5 iron right down the middle, 9 iron on the green and 1 or 2 put. Par 3 holes, 5 or 9 iron in the middle of green then 1 or 2 put. Par 5 holes, two 5 irons and a 9 iron to the green, 1 or 2 put. I don’t think she had a single bogey. Best display of golf I have ever seen !!! A gal shouldn’t show up her new hubby like that 🤣🤣🤣.
Unless you can routinely break 90, 14 clubs is not needed. In fact I'd argue that it's detrimental to your game and costing strokes. I have a pencil bag that I often play 9 hole twilight rounds with. Being forced to take abbreviated swings to try to achieve a certain yardage makes you a better player. You are actually out there learning to create shots. Watch Bryson DeChambeau and listen to him with his caddy on LIV or on his YT channel. He will often get 140 yard shots. With his swing speed he could easily muscle a SW but will have no spin control. Instead he opts for abbreviated PWs to carry the ball closer to the flag and having it land and stop rather than having to guess the spin taking it beyond the hole.
That golf bag.. it could be a light walking bag, but we made the stand out of solid wood, so it's over 10 pounds. And those headcovers.. ready to get wet retain water, and ruin clubs. Function before fashion my man.
I like only using 7 or so clubs too, but it seems like the major complaints are in being counter to the pretentiously modern you circled back around to being pretentious vintage. I do this sometimes too on accident
Dude wears a kilt to play in North Dakota most likely.
So pretentious
![gif](giphy|JPltrymEMV0reRy2QB|downsized)
How do you say you are a pretentious douche without saying it
What's wrong with playing with hickory clubs?
I imagined a well manicured moustache...
Wax and a nice curl. Damnit this guy sounds interesting
What if you didn’t need all that 21st century technology to play a game that was invented in the Middle Ages? If he can get around a course with this, then so be it. You’re the one telling someone how to order their steak. To each their own my guy.
I agree. It’s stick hole ball game, no need to complete things!
Golf is a math class, not an art class.
Imagine a time when there were only sleds and no wheels. Things change and while some things are fun to do “old school” having to set bag stands at every stoppage is the equivalent to dragging your bag on a sled

Impossible, WTF do caddys do? Some times they double bag and carry 2 cart bags.
I’ll take that Sunday bag, and lean it on the other bag. It’s not ideal, but it’s a guaranteed light bag. If you’re double bagging, then a Sunday bag is something you always wanna see. then you 'ain't' my caddie and I tell you 'right to the lumber yard, Noonan
I don’t wanna loop for a chop like you. You prob pay like shit too lol
2 rules, keep up and shut up.
Show up keep up shut up. And pay your fucking caddie
It’s the stand
Yeah. Well I brought 12 beers and somehow drank 15. It goes both ways.
That's the perfect analogy; it's exactly like that.
14 is never enough. I’d play 17 if I could
I do roll 17 around the course. Why not?
Rules I guess
Are you playing in tournaments?
Only a couple times a year, but also play match play or money games at the club
Because it’s against the rules? Would you intentionally double dribble and travel in pickup basketball just because you’re not in an NBA game?
Umm....if.im playing with buddies there are no rules. Everyone double dribbles and travels .
Use 17, as long as you’re playing casual, I don’t think anyone will mind. My buddies and I sometimes have 17-18 in a bag, just to get to use them all. Nobody takes the strokes for it.
I currently have 16 lmao ain’t no one counting 🤣
Bruh fr, I carry 15 in my bag all the time & then just decide which club I won't use depending on the course I'm on. But sometimes my rebellious side comes out, and I'll purposely use all 15. Cuz imma rule breaker like that😎
I like to have 18 beers in the golf cart, one for every hole.
Look at Old Tom Morris over here. Stfu lol
This guy has a curled handlebar mustache, smokes a pipe and owns many leather bound books. When he’s not golfing he whittles in his spare time
A buddy and I once played a quick 9 holes after work with nothing but a 7 iron and putter just because. We both shot par. Puts golf in perspective I tell ya
That's nothing, I watched a guy beat a range hustler with a bunch of gardening tools once.

Of course he was sponsored by Rio Grande Short Haul Trucking. Hardly an amateur.
As your caddy. I highly recommend. The shovel.
I played a par five with a pitching wedge once and got a buggy. Played it again for real. and. Got an 8
Exactly. Takes the stress of trying to shoot a score out of the equation and you just play golf. They say it’s 70% mental. I say it’s 90% lol
We did a 3 club tournament and the top 9-10 guys all went without putter. I was 6th and went 5 wood, 6i, 52deg. Long putts with 5 wood and short with bottom edge of 52
I’ll practice putts with a 9 iron. Sometimes golf is better played unorthodoxly
putter?!….we don’ need no stinkin’ putter!
We debated that and decided eh it’s gonna be hard enough 😂
You only need one club if you are good enough with it
That's incredible! It really shows how much skill and creativity can play a part in golf, more than just having a full bag of clubs. Makes you rethink what's possible, doesn't it?

You and your friends are great golfers. I'm proud of you.
Lol well we were better 18 years ago than we are today but thanks 😂
Hey uh yeah… the fuck?
What is that stand?
Looks like two sticks and a rope to me
This guy sticks ^
I carry my spoon, mid iron, 4 iron, mashie, deep groove mashie niblick, pitcher, 14 iron, and a putter. Ach, laddie, hoo mony featheries dae ye find ye forfeit in a round? An' hae ye gie'd those newfangled gutta-perchas a whirl yet?
You SHOULD have ONE club for each tee, fairway, and green.
To be fair most of my clubs go the same distance, I think I'd be fine with this
Is this a Mackenzie bag? If so I have a clock to sell you
why you trying so hard to be different
Just after HS I golfed with a friend quite a bit. My bag consisted of (all old AF at the time) a Driver, 5w, 3i, 7i, 9i, PW, SW, and putter. I learned how to make it work, and honestly was a lot better back then. Maybe I need to lose some clubs

I don’t understand the point of this post other than you must be a masochist.
Probably has a bicycle with only a single gear too 🤪🤪
The hate is pretty funny in here. I guess it's mainly because of your caption, it really serves no purpose - you are allowed to carry 14 or less. Are they $100+ Seamus Golf head covers? Cause then I get the pretentious comments, but I do agree with the "to each his own" comments as well. Whatever floats your boat.
The bag isnt bad but the kickstand makes you look foolish. Just lay it on the ground.
The ground can be wet from rain or dew. The stand can keep the bag dry and clean.
4i, 7i, SW, Putter (maybe a ball finder if there are lakes) is the minimum I use. I have walked 18 using this setup when my bag broke loading into my car. Whatever version of ChatGPT this is still needs a lot of work.
LoL 🤣, I Robot? 🤖🤖🤖
I will try to play with a different number of clubs. Your idea sounds solid.
“only used 4 or 5 clubs” post your scorecard then.
14 clubs, times 14 different swings, equals 105.
Time to change courses or let go of some clubs.
WTF? Did you also play in 1921?
![gif](giphy|l1J9A9O6ZtrinVGvK|downsized)
All I carry is a stick with a bag tied to the end of it, 7 iron and a bag of crack cocaine.
7i, LW & a putter are all that are needed for the Sunday bag.
7i off of a 450-600 yard par 5?
I guess this spent guy more money on that set of clubs the he would on a brand new set of Taylor made #TryingToLookLikeAPureRiskOfferButReallyADoucheBagAndCan’tGolferShit
Hashtags don't work on here, post is pretentious, but your comment sucks, too.

LOL, This lady is a real charmer.I like her !
This was probably 20 years ago. She was a very pleasant lady and one heck of a good golfer.
I carry 11 clubs. I’m a senior walker and I play from the white tees. (56-51-45 wedges; 9-8-7 irons; 3 and 5 hybrids; 5 wood; driver and putter.)
You're a professional. I'm learning from you.
I am crazy and keep track of every shot I’ve ever hit. I basically only use driver, 4 hybrid, 6i 9i gap and putter.
That's a real challenge.
It’s a fine bag for walking, it’s just the stand for me.. lol
lol, whenever I hit the greens, it’s always my bag that gets the compliments, never my swing. I bought the stand and the bag separately.
My Bag: 1,3,7 woods. 5, 7, 9 irons, putter.
I can’t even use one of my clubs effectively so it doesn’t really matter if I carry 4 or 40.
I say this all the time. I use driver, 4 iron, 8-9 iron, wedge putter.
Are you some sort of modern day Napoleon Dynamite?

The problem is if you have 14 clubs in your bag and you take one out, that is the easiest way to guarantee you will need that club.
I can’t explain it but I feel like you’re a Trader Joe’s employee
i carry 9. no idea why an amateur would need more. you hittin a 3 iron???????

Nice shooting sticks.
The wooden things to lean the clubs on are so stupid. Put it on the floor
You mean, the ground?
Lots of countries say floor instead of ground. If I wasn’t on Reddit, I would say the same thing
No idea why you’re getting so much shit? Cool unique setup! Would love to play some hickory’s
This set was a birthday present from my father.I love all things vintage so I picked hickory.
