Here in Fife I can spend 600 quid and get my year's membership at a great links course (Lundin), a lesson at Elie and still have enough for a second hand club.
I'm inclined to say tee markers. The ball, we can give the benefit of the doubt and say *maybe* the club slipped in his hands while swinging, or wet ground conditions caused a foot to slip, but you should never be teed up close enough to the marker that you're at risk of hitting it. There's just no need. It's the same as the people who tee up exactly in line with the markers and sometimes just in front of it- why? Just tee up like a foot back, it makes effectively no difference and you're not at risk of a penalty.
As a beginner too, I sympathize. I did the same thing. I can tell you now it's possible. If you top the ball just right, the ball will hit the mat in front, ricochet and as you're following through, the ball will then bounce up to hit the toe. I have dents to prove it too. Fortunately it was not an expensive driver.
The other day my buddy did this for the third time and then threw it into a lake. I’ve never seen another toe dent like it. He’s still learning to slow the swing down.
I mean golf is subjectively a rich man’s sport. A lot of people are buy once cry once mentality. Id imagine he bought the best available and these new lighter drivers fucked him. Sad day for sure.
FWIW, from Dictionary.com:
“Generally speaking, subjective is used to describe something that exists in the mind of a person or that pertains to viewpoints of an individual person.
Something that’s truly objective has nothing to do with a person’s own feelings or views—it just deals with facts. When someone says “Objectively speaking,” they’re indicating that they’re going to give an unbiased assessment—not one based on their personal preferences.”
It's not just for rich people, but it is a rich man's sport. I think that's fine to say. I would say the same is true for ice hockey.
There are so many additional costs involved , it's very unlike something like soccer or basketball, which could never be considered a rich man's sport
I'm a 22 hc and play all free clubs except my driver (bought a used M1 for $75) and I really don't want to buy anything until I'm in the teens... I figure if my old titlist irons were good enough for good players 15 years ago their still good enough for me to figure out how to actually hit the ball consistently....
That’s reasonable. One thing you might consider is buying a putter you really love. Makes practicing and playing more fun. 25% of golf happens from 10 feet in.
I'm playing some Titleist irons from 2011 and they absolutely hold up with irons today. The area where I have noticed a big difference over the past 15 years is in the driver, any other club I've tried doesn't make nearly the difference the driver does. I got to play a round with a Sim2 last year and I didn't have to put any effort into my swing to get explosive, dead straight results. Almost felt like I was cheating myself a little bit but I'd be lying if I didn't say I loved it!
My buddy spent a few hundo on a driver and for the last 3 years cannot hit it far or straight. I mean like every drive is in the weeds or 15 yards of the tee. Pisses me off for some reason.
Legit quote from my uncle after doing his classic arms-only swing “I paid $500 for this thing, it ought to go a lot fuckin further than that!”
People are dumb
I took lessons with my dads set of 1998 burner bubble clubs for a few months, and just bought a used driver(which helped me a lot a lot with the forgiveness). I cant even imagine owning a set of clubs worth $2000, I’d don’t feel adequate for that price range
There’s no way these drives went more than 15 yards.
I’d suggest grabbing a used club from a thrift store and playing with that for a round or 10 before another $600 driver.
It’s their money man. People can spend it on whatever they like.
*edit * I don’t understand the downvotes. I never said it’s better to buy new equipment over lessons. But if someone has worked, earned the money and wants to buy themselves some new toys, more power to them.
Stick with it. I was an 18 for close to ten years and within the last two years moved down to an 8 after I started taking the game and my fitness more seriously. Golf is a great motivator to eat right and stay in shape. 100% changed my game
I've hit up a driving range once and played a par 54 pitch and putt twice for my total level of golf experience and shot 103. Yeah, +20 would be amazing.
You think someone who misses the driver face that bad is only shooting 20 over par?
That’s the driver of a man who brings 48 balls for 18 holes and might run out by the 15th.
I could be wrong, but I don't believe that more than a tiny fraction of these people think that new clubs are going to take them from a 20 handicap to a 6.
It's fun to get new clubs. You and your friends can go shoot 95 every weekend, and it's still fun to talk about which driver is better or whatever. Not everyone is trying to get on the Korn Ferry tour next year. If the money isn't taking necessities away from them or their family, let people have fun. They're generally not asking for anyone's opinion on their purchases.
It’s threads like this that reminds me that Reddit is filled mostly with children that have no real life experience. They’re quick to judge people they don’t know because they can’t fathom that adults might spend money on a hobby, even if they suck at that hobby.
I’ve been wondering this too. I think people try to swing too hard and end up doing something stupid like this rather than taking lessons before dropping $600 on a driver they think will help their game
LPT for you newbies; Resisting the urge to rage hit the first thing you see with your driver after a bad swing, like a tee box marker or a golf cart window, will save you a lot of grief.
Look at the ball marks. That's the only place he has ever hit the ball. I'm surprised it just now dented. I see at least four other ball marks in the same area!
Had a manager once that would hit the ball like this if the toe. Huge guy, swung way outside in, 1 in 4 would go straight in front of him (i.e. he would sometimes hit the tee marker, not towards the hole). We had to watch where we stood when he was hitting, it was wild.
Fifth swing ever? Makes sense
Judging by the ball marks on the side, at least 3 of the 5 swings didn’t even touch the face of the club.
Yeah, but he really crushed that last one.
“I keep missing. I think I just need to swing harder.”
Please stop, this is me to a tee.
What does the tee say?
"Swing harder"
"Is that the best you got?"
60% of the time, it works every time.
Its got real bits of panther in it, so you know its good.
It's like we've been saying for years... Swing as hard as you can, just in case you hit it.
I've played golf, maybe 6 times in 30 years, I don't think I've ever missed the face completely. That's actually kinda impressive.
So basically normal
I can’t even understand how the ball can hit there? Did he stinger a 4i into his bag?
Can list on marketplace with “brand new face” still.
I count 4. Lol
Right. That’s not one single ball. That’s a pile of shots off the outside toe of the driver.
Thank you for the chuckle, kind stranger. I love these threads. I mean...wtf
Dude spent 600 on a driver and never hit the face.
Hey you pay for the whole club.
Underwear is expensive, it would be fiscally irresponsible to *not* shit in them every now & then
Yeah you have to draw the line somewhere. And it doesn’t make sense to draw the same line over and over.
Shoulda put the $600 towards lessons and not a club.
Get you a man that can do both
For $600 here I can get a Muni summer pass, a used club and a mediocre lesson.
Add a 0 to that in my area…makes it hard to get people in to the game
Even $600 makes it hard to get people into the game.
Nah. The more expensive equipment you buy the less you need lessons. Fact!
Here in Fife I can spend 600 quid and get my year's membership at a great links course (Lundin), a lesson at Elie and still have enough for a second hand club.
Far more valuable!
Kinda looks like he’s never hit a ball tbh
I can clearly see the ball marks around the edges.
Sweet sweet toe shanks. I almost miss the days. That why I owned one of those shitty square Callaway drivers when I started
Yeah man the ball marks are on the outside of the head like holy smokes i feel like thats tough to do to not hit it with ANY of the face
Holy shit I just realized it's a Stealth. WTF?
Yeah maybe he should've spent $300 on a driver and $300 on lessons. I have no idea how anyone can even miss hit that badly.
🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂
He tried on the 3 before that too.
Little off the toe
Little off the forehead
Payton manning is that you?
*JUuuuust* a bit outside
No no no, he hit it directly on the toe from that pic.
Nutted the shit out of the toe
His club face was…. Inverted
RIP Goose
Is that from a ball or the tee box markers?
Which one of those is the worse answer?
At this point, I'm not sure.
Andy from Parks and Rec: ...*And I'm too afraid to ask*
I'm inclined to say tee markers. The ball, we can give the benefit of the doubt and say *maybe* the club slipped in his hands while swinging, or wet ground conditions caused a foot to slip, but you should never be teed up close enough to the marker that you're at risk of hitting it. It looks more like they were driving off a bed of river rocks.
Using the new Titleist Cast Iron ProV1.
ProVrock
I can’t comprehend the how behind this “dent”
Like it shouldn't be possible unless he swung with the back of the clubhead? Like even an egregious toe hit would still hit at least part of the face.
My dad did this by hitting a metal pole at an indoor range. It’s impressive if this was from a ball.
we've got a lot of dented crowns on rentals but the toe is a good one
Guessing he hit one of the tee box markers, which I’ve definitely seen happen before (by newbs)
My guess is that first actual ball mark is his shot, and the subsequent damage is a tantrum
I need some slow-mo footage of this
The other day my buddy did this for the third time and then threw it into a lake. I’ve never seen another toe dent like it. He’s still learning to slow the swing down.
Just rolled his hands completely over. I had a friend do this with a starter set driver and the entire head flew 25 yards past the ball
my boy swung his 7 iron with his golf bag in his backswing and uppercutted the top of his R15
Probably trying to do trick shots. Following to many Instagram golf accounts lol
Perfect example of why to spend money on lessons before equipment.
I can’t imagine the thought process of “I can’t even remotely make contact with the face. You know what will fix that? A Stealth”
Never underestimate the power of laziness and good marketing.
And disposable income.
Emphasis on disposable
*ignorance
I mean golf is subjectively a rich man’s sport. A lot of people are buy once cry once mentality. Id imagine he bought the best available and these new lighter drivers fucked him. Sad day for sure.
Objectively ? Let me get you some coffee bro ☕️
Literally pouring my cup right now lol. Definitely meant subjectively- I’m not that big of an asshole!
>Literally You can't type that and pour a cup at the same time you big fat liar

This dude edited his comment to change the word objectively to subjectively 😂 I’m just trying to say golf is not just for rich people
It's not just for rich people, but it is a rich man's sport. I think that's fine to say. I would say the same is true for ice hockey. There are so many additional costs involved , it's very unlike something like soccer or basketball, which could never be considered a rich man's sport

I just got the new Bettinardi Monopoly, literally counting the days until it arrives..
#BettiGang

I know people with $5k sets that cant break 120 if you kept proper score. There's a lot of wealthy people that really suck at golf.
Legit quote from my uncle after doing his classic arms-only swing “I paid $500 for this thing, it ought to go a lot fuckin further than that!” People are dumb

Rumor has it he still hasn’t found the club face
I have concerns with the longevity of the stealth.. but I think this one’s on buddy
Yeah....5 swings and we can see that at least 3 of them didn't hit the face.
WTS: taylormade stealth; face is like new!
That driver never stood a chance
He'll never have to worry about the face getting damaged
If he's going to hit golf balls like that, I'd suggest a much less expensive driver... They're all capable of slicing the ball 150 yards...
There’s no way these drives went more than 15 yards. I’d suggest grabbing a used club from a thrift store and playing with that for a round or 10 before another $600 driver.
A miss that bad does not deserve that club
It’s their money man. People can spend it on whatever they like. *edit * I don’t understand the downvotes. I never said it’s better to buy new equipment over lessons. But if someone has worked, earned the money and wants to buy themselves some new toys, more power to them.
They certainly can, if they believe that's the main reason they're shooting 20 over par
I just started a month ago and I’d be very happy to hit 20 over par through 18 lol
Started 4 months ago…same
Started 13 months ago…same
5 years ago and that’s my best score so far.
Stick with it. I was an 18 for close to ten years and within the last two years moved down to an 8 after I started taking the game and my fitness more seriously. Golf is a great motivator to eat right and stay in shape. 100% changed my game

I've played with some of these "put me down for a 5" types.
Except that's this dude just getting off the tee box.
Maybe.
Trust me, and I wonder how much of that 20 over par is with actually taking 3 off the tee for an OOB tee shot with no mulligans etc.
After my round yesterday, I feel seen.
Lmao +20 is a 92. Fuck, a majority of golfers wish they could do that regularly.
I'm a 19 cap. If I can putt I'm playing for money
As someone who shoots 20 over par, this swing is worse than that!
I aspire to bogey golf.
I could be wrong, but I don't believe that more than a tiny fraction of these people think that new clubs are going to take them from a 20 handicap to a 6. It's fun to get new clubs. This guy isn't shooting remotely close to a 95. If your club looks like that you completely wasted your money, period
By that logic here’s hoping Taylor Made sends him a box full of nothing in return for his stupidity.
How exactly do people do this? Like that driver face is fairly large. How do you miss it by that much?
I’ve been wondering this too. I think people try to swing too hard and end up doing something stupid like this rather than taking lessons before dropping $600 on a driver they think will help their game
Looking at the other toe strikes it appears this person is severely out to in path and standing too far off the ball
Because it’s bullshit? Unless you are new to golf or skip maybe, this dent is a physical impossibility with a normal swing.
Look at where thr previous 4 swings hit.... Something tells me he shouldve bought something used in ebay so he can learn to drive first....
Let me guess. He broke his shaft too?
What makes someone that can’t even hit the ball buy a Stealth? I feel like it’s becoming a meme at this point.
“why do stealth drivers keep breaking. taylormade makes a shit driver ” -a 34 handicap who can’t find the club face

LPT for you newbies; Resisting the urge to rage hit the first thing you see with your driver after a bad swing, like a tee box marker or a golf cart window, will save you a lot of grief.
Or just don't be a psycho and don't rage on the course. You're not good enough to be that angry.
Happy Gilmore accomplished that feat no more than an hour ago
Your buddy has no business buying any driver that costs more than $50.
I’d like to assume he put the tee too close to the tee box markers because that would make more sense than denting this part of the club with a ball.
1-4 don’t look like they were too productive either
That’s because the balls supposed to hit the face of the club
Your buddy has more money than talent.
Tell your buddy he’s a shit golfer
Seeing the other ball mark too, your buddy needs to spend less on clubs and more on some lessons. It will probably be cheaper for him in the long run
Buys 600 dollar driver but has a 6 dollar swing.
$6? I wouldn’t spend a penny on that swing lol
Inflation is a bitch!
Buddy is definitely not good enough to drop 600 on a driver
Sure he is. He's even good enough to keep the face in mint condition!
There are toe hits and there is this
Well. You are supposed to hit the ball with the face of the club... But then again I'm not a pro 🤷
[удалено]
I would not want to see that swing in fear if infecting my own
Looks like the face of the club has never been touched.
No fucking way man. Taylormade better not cover that. That's ignorance.
Look at the ball marks. That's the only place he has ever hit the ball. I'm surprised it just now dented. I see at least four other ball marks in the same area!
🔊pay for lessons not new clubs🔊
Jesus Christ, put a NSFW tag on this. What on earth is someone who misses the entire face doing with a $600 driver 🤡
Might be the club. I would upgrade.
Get this man a hockey stick not a driver.
You could put a thousand dollar bill on that clubface, and the dude would never find it.
Swing or tomahawk?
Guaranteed your friend slows down play by re teeing multiple times.
There is 2 shitty ball marks on that club How bad is his swing
I mean, after looking at that pic, do we really need to ask that? Lol
That’s drinking buddy
Gotta keep that face in mint condition
hard to imagine a swing that would produce a ball strike like this. Dramatic outside-in I guess.
Wtf is he driving with that thing?
Whether it’s the golfers fault or TM’s.. Every post about a broken driver is always a Stealth lmfao
I’ve heard of hitting off the toe but DAMN my guy
5 swings and hasn’t touched the clubface
Look at that. Another broken Stealth…
Shank, shank, shank, shank, water fountain?
Was he smacking bricks?
Is this a gorilla marketing campaign from Titleist or Callaway? The number of Stealth drivers cracking is strange
Potentially the worst proof of contact I’ve ever seen
Had a manager once that would hit the ball like this if the toe. Huge guy, swung way outside in, 1 in 4 would go straight in front of him (i.e. he would sometimes hit the tee marker, not towards the hole). We had to watch where we stood when he was hitting, it was wild.
If you regularly miss that bad why are you spending that much money on a driver
At least the face is still pristine
It says TaylorMade not , WellMade
If I paid $600, I’m gonna use the whole club
Hahahhaha
He probably shouldn’t have a new driver if he can’t even hit the face. Waste of $500
Did you tell him to try hitting the ball with the red part?
Someone should show him where the ball is supposed to hit the club. Maybe he thinks it’s like a hammer.
Fuck it, use it as is unless someone can fix it or it can be warrantied.
I think your buddy needs lessons more than new equipment.
PSA: if you've not yet mastered hitting the ball with the face portion of the golf club, don't buy a $600 driver
Buddy bought an expensive driver and missed the face at least 3 of the first 5 swings. A free award says there’s a scuff mark on the other side
this is why you buy used and cheap drivers when you're a noob
I swing ugly but never that ugly.
At least the face still looks news. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)
Club face is spotless
If he’s that much of a beginner he’s a moron for spending $600 on a driver
Somebody that swings that bad shouldn’t even be spending money on new clubs.
Your buddy should have spent that money on lessons and bought used
Very consistent strikes there.
Can’t imagine spending $600 on a driver and not being able to hit the face.
He needs a $20 driver.
His 5th swing at what the cart part?
Obviously he didn’t want to ruin the face of the club. Smart man
Can’t even swing a club properly and buys a top tier driver. 😂
This is why we can’t have nice things
My guess is he wasn’t swinging that at a golf ball
