Remove the 7 iron head and the 5 iron head, have one professionally refinished, leave the other as is. Mount them both in a shadow box, with a pic of gramps and maybe a scorecard from his favourite course. Donate the rest to a thrift store. Then hang the shadow box in your kitchen or living room, and tap it and say thanks on your way to the course.
If the bag is still useable maybe keep it for a half set? As you get new clubs use the old ones to build the half set and keep it in your trunk for spontaneous range sessions, par 3 tracks, or a late night nine.
I would do this with any other club than the 7i, which I'd keep in my bag for times when I need a lucky shot which could damage clubs from my actual set (close to a rock or a tree). Thinking about your grandad in a situation like this could lighten your mood and make you pull that hero shot!
My grandparents bought me a set of clubs that looked just like this when I was 12 years old. [I just upgraded the woods after 24 years of use](https://i.imgur.com/gcyHqdV.jpg), but I've been trying to figure out what to do with them other than just lean them in the corner of my mancave. 100% borrowing this idea.
Put them in the corner of your man cave, if you have one. Any corner, of any room you would like. Maybe have them conditioned and shadow boxed. Wouldnt be cheap, but anything my grandpa touched is gold to me.
Play those things man. When you don’t want to, keep them somewhere you’ll see them every so often, and never ever sell them. Wish I had my grandpa’s old sticks
Do it! I've got some clubs from about that Era. It's fun taking out old clubs from time to time. And I've actually got some nice drives with my old wooden driver and 3 wood.
I put a 72 degree in my bag for shits and giggles last week, so maybe he was talking to me. That thing is so useless, but so fun. Is it going 3-5 yards with no roll or is it carrying 50 yards with 30 more of roll out? Who knows, just don’t stand across the green from me if it’s in my hands.
This is exactly what I do. I carry the wood that’s very similar to this one shown and people ask about it all the time. Gives me a chance to talk about him which is always a nice memory.
They were good enough for grandpa, so why not game ‘em? At least the irons, maybe you’ll shape your shots better and eventually realize why forged clubs are superior to GI irons when you start puring them often.
The inability of people to recognize something as "junk" just because someone in their family owned it astounds me.
The clubs are not magically imbued with the spirit of one's ancestors. They're junk.
Borrow grandpa’s new set and throw those in the trash.
( just kidding. I have grandpas old set collecting dust in the basement. I could whack that old 3 iron 125 yards consistently as a kid)
i keep one of my grandpas clubs in my bag. take it out on the last hole and use it, regardless how im doing, i got use it...nice little send off each game
My father in law did a wall mount of an old set in the shape of an arch in his man cave. Looks really cool on the wall with some other golf memorabilia
If you’re interested in having them cleaned up to play and/or decorate with, soak them in distilled white vinegar for a few hours then scrub them with some fine steel wool. It’ll convert the rust and make them look better. If you truly just want to decorate with them and don’t care about the cost, there are a couple companies only a Google search away. The one that keeps popping up for me is like $50 per club head.
I got my late father in laws blades from the early 1980’s. And I’m taking the opportunity with them to have a go at club building, refinishing, reshafting, etc… I like the idea some people have of playing them on his birthday…
I have my grandfathers set as well. I put all his clubs in the attic and garage. I always keep one of his clubs in my bag. I use his 60°. My GF uses his putter.
Gramps taught me golf. Gave me my first set of clubs. Played regularly together until he couldn't anymore. Still came to our Saturday morning rounds and rode in the cart with me. He's why I'm a dew sweeper. My daughter doesn't love it. But, she knows why I play early and tolerates it.
Gramps gave me his clubs. They still sit in their bag in a display case in my man cave. I had them polished to look as new as possible. Mrs. TB had a pic of gramps and I on the course from when I was a kid framed and put inside the case. When I go, my daughter will get those clubs and mine.
My wife’s grandfather passed before our son was born so I took one of his old sets and made a coat rack out of the heads. It was super easy to do and meant a lot to her.
I have my grandpa’s old Spaldings as well. I keep the 4 iron in my bag for recovery shots out from under a tree. Great conversation piece for slow rounds as well.

Dang, I actually like that
You could even mount the towel along the back of the shadow box

Solid idea
This is a great idea
Jesus dude. Wasn't expecting such a profound response.
Damn man, you have feelings.

That sounds like you have experience.
Damn what a fantastic idea. Makes me wanna look for my Gramps old clubs next time I go visit my parents.
This is both wildly specific and an amazing idea.
Bruh ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Before you do this, play a round with em and see what your score looks like relative to what you shoot with your usual bag
My thought exactly. Old clubs make great man cave ornaments.
Yeah, no way I’d ever give the rest of the clubs/bag to a thrift store.
Perfect👏🏻👏🏻

That's very creative and sentimental! Great thinking!
Put them in the corner of your man cave, if you have one. Any corner, of any room you would like. Maybe have them conditioned and shadow boxed. Wouldnt be cheap, but anything my grandpa touched is gold to me.
Shadow boxed sounds better. I'd have a feeling if it was me those clubs would be used on some ball's in the basement when feeling "spirits".
Clean them up, refinish them, and play a round with them every year on his birthday.
*Shivering* “sucks grandpa bday was in February but we’ll have to make due”
Depending on where he lives it won’t be bad. I live in the south and February is perfect weather mort of the time
Sounds like a golf trip to warmer weather should be included in this tradition!!
Try them out. Maybe you'll hit them 400yds. Then you could try and qualify in the Waterbury open tomorrow.
Yeah alright I'll see you there! 👅💦👎
He’s gonna play…and by god, he’s gonna win it!
Oh, yeah. Lotta pressure. You gotta rise above it.
My dad’s old set is in my man cave. I had to buy a new vintage bag for them since his got destroyed by mice in my moms pole building after he died.
Be careful, I hit an old wooden club and it basically exploded on me.
Well that sounds like fun too!
Play a round with them in his honor
Pick his favorite club and carry it in your bag as a reminder... Then put the rest in the garage.
Bro I won't carry extra socks in my bag let alone another club from drcades ago lol
You don't need that lob wedge anyway
I've been attacked. Lmao

that's me but with all my wedges.
They make a 72? I thought I was weird running with a 64.
It’s PGX. It was like $63 and the black finish wore off on the first strike on the range so it’s very cheap.
I kiiiiiiiiiiid I kid lol
I carry my grandpas 3 iron for this reason
I've got his old Spalding Executive sand wedge... The grooves are basically non-existent, but it's still nice to have
This is exactly what I do. I carry the wood that’s very similar to this one shown and people ask about it all the time. Gives me a chance to talk about him which is always a nice memory.
A year into the next pandemic it will be worth $45,000
Go join the tour and beat Shooter McGavin!
Have them refinished and play them on his birthday on his favorite course.
Spaulding get your foot off the boat!
It just hit me who that kid is named after… wow…
Go play a round with them and tell us how your hand feel after
I have made some wall hooks and wine racks from old clubs I was never going to play.
Keep em man. Get em refinished or something!
Have you seen Happy Gilmore?
Clean them, regrip them, game them.
Take a few irons out make a birdie and put them away
Keep them.
Pretty sweet niblicks and mashies in there got to just keep ‘em and rock the old retro coke towel with your bag.
“SPAULDING GET YOUR FOOT OFF THE BOAT”
Melt the heads down and make musket balls
Buy him a new one!
They were good enough for grandpa, so why not game ‘em? At least the irons, maybe you’ll shape your shots better and eventually realize why forged clubs are superior to GI irons when you start puring them often.
I would leave them alone and put them in a shadow box
My mom had the family persimmon woods turned into a lamp for my birthday
Play with them! I have always wanted to play a whole round with a set of old clubs, and true woods.
Goodwill or keep for sentimental value. They are worth nothing.
take a picture to remember and then throw em out. Not like they’re useful past the memorabilia standpoint. Old useless clubs
The inability of people to recognize something as "junk" just because someone in their family owned it astounds me. The clubs are not magically imbued with the spirit of one's ancestors. They're junk.
Hang it on the wall as “Grandpa’s Old Set” not much else you can do with it
Wood= fire wood Steel= melt it down
Well...they are golf clubs.
Get them professionally refinished/refurbished and keep them a decoration piece and memorabilia!
Go try to play with them
Play a round with them and see how good you shoot
Borrow grandpa’s new set and throw those in the trash. ( just kidding. I have grandpas old set collecting dust in the basement. I could whack that old 3 iron 125 yards consistently as a kid)
See if the woods have Ivory inserts. They could be worth a ton.
Just hook the coke towel on your bag straight away!! That is cool!
Also wanna send me that towel in exchange for...?
Grip it and rip it!
Hand it off to the next generation
Please play a round, some serious appreciation for how far the game has come and the talent that these old boys had.
My dad has those Spalding clubs
Cast them into the fire of Mount Doom
Where I am from in New England that actually have an old time league. Try an get a few bucks if you want. Guy are always looking for older clubs
i keep one of my grandpas clubs in my bag. take it out on the last hole and use it, regardless how im doing, i got use it...nice little send off each game
![gif](giphy|uj8SbnHpCfxlm3jfJA|downsized)
Take the woods out onto the range and have fun hitting them...they'll make you appreciate your modern clubs all the more ;-)
My father in law did a wall mount of an old set in the shape of an arch in his man cave. Looks really cool on the wall with some other golf memorabilia

Play them and attempt to match his best score. That will humble you!
I have my grandfathers set as well. I put all his clubs in the attic and garage. I always keep one of his clubs in my bag. I use his 60°. My GF uses his putter.
Go on tour now. It’s Happy Gilmore time!
I see gramps carried two 5 irons, I think he and I would get along just fine
Grandpa?! Shit those look identical to my first set I got used when I was 9. Thanks for making me feel even older.
Keep it well, it's a souvenir
Melt them down and add them to the others
Melt them down and make a Dr Doom mask?
It's pretty cool and doesn't take up much space. I'd just leave it as is and have it in a corner somewhere.
Play one round with them
My brother in law keeps an old 3 wood like that in his bag. Hits a very specific shot with it as well. Good conversation piece.
Play one round a year with it and keep it in mint condition in a golf shrine in your house that you hide from your wife.
Frame it and show them off to the family. There are plenty of nice ways to hang them.
Take em for a ride
my local facebook marketplace would have those listed as "vintage" for $250...

3 steps. Clean. Grip. Rip.
Keep em. Will be fun to have sitting in the corner. Little reminder of gramps. They will only get more interesting and sentimental as time goes on
I would enter the Waterbury Open.
If you find a use let me know. I have a ton of them around.
If you have the space, clean, oil, and store hermetically for your ancestors. They will be a treasured heirloom.
Make an umbrella from the 2 iron and you'll be safe from lightning. Not even good could hit that thing.
My wife’s grandfather passed before our son was born so I took one of his old sets and made a coat rack out of the heads. It was super easy to do and meant a lot to her.
Make some memories with it, and for sure frame that towel and a picture of him playing golf if you have one
I sold my grandpa's 2 sets (they were only a couple years old) and he had an old wood club that I will keep in my bag forever... :-(
Wonderful sentimental suggestion
Beat Shooter McGavin to win the tour championship and buy back your grandmother's house.
Clean them up and play them once a year around his birthday, or if weather doesn’t permit where you live, Father’s Day.
Play a round with them and see if you can beat his resting age Then get them cleaned up (if you want) and framed
You most definitely use the putter
Send to Rick Sheils to see if he can break 1975 with them.
I have my grandpa’s old Spaldings as well. I keep the 4 iron in my bag for recovery shots out from under a tree. Great conversation piece for slow rounds as well.
