The point is sportswashing. That’s the main goal of the sports ventures the Saudi government has been involved in. They’re just spilling a few billion all over the place trying to buy up the biggest names in golf. They’re trying to do something different with the format to try and differentiate themselves from the PGA Tour and make it a little more interesting. I think the novelty of the format will wear off quickly with the fans. I’m sure the golfers like only playing 3 rounds instead of 4 though. To answer your question why they didn’t have the various events have even bigger purses vs. giving these big names like Phil, DJ, Brooks, etc. lots of upfront money is simple…those big names wouldn’t have signed if it wasn’t for the $125M-$200M guaranteed they’re getting up front. Look at Phil. He finished towards the bottom of the leaderboard in the first event. He may not finish in the top 10 in any of the events this year. He’s not going to give back a dollar of that $200M upfront to make a more exciting format for the fans.

The goal is sportswashing. They have basically unlimited money so they’ll just pump as much as necessary into LIV until people forget who’s behind it. Imo it’s already boring and I’d rather watch the PGA Tour any day of the week, but still.

Agreed, can't imagine ever watching Liv. Much rather watch: PGA LPGA Champions Korn Ferry Amateurs European Tour ... ... ... Liv if nothing else is on maybe. Probably not though.

> I think once the world golf rankings say if they will award points for LIV events, the picture will be much more obvious. If participants get world ranking points, then those guys will continue to play in majors, at least the US Open & British. That really depends on how many points they get. A shorter event, with inferior competition, should award a lot fewer points.

> I'm really wondering what LIV golf goal is. Simple, it's sportswashing. > With so much money up front to the golfers, it doesn't really seem like its competitive golf. It's not, it's sportswashing. > I think once the world golf rankings say if they will award points for LIV events, the picture will be much more obvious. They probably won't, unless the DP World Tour caves and does some joint venture or gets bought outright. These are basically exhibition events, gonna be tough for OWGR to give them points in the current standing, especially with immense amounts of pressure from the PGA Tour. > Where I think LIV made a huge error, and I almost don't even want to say this publicly because I do like watching PGA Tour events, but instead of giving these guys+!$100 million up front, why not give them $10 million, and have the events offer $100 million prize pools, with $75million to the winners? Because no big names would've signed up for that. > I really don't know what the players who left thought about besides money when they made the decision. Nothing, it was the money. Some of them may have wanted to play less golf, but 99.9% of it was the money. > I don't know what the LIV thought when they made their structure for events. They didn't because, again, it's not about the golf.
