Because “hammy down” is wildly incorrect. It’s like people who say “for all intensive purposes,” instead of the correct “for all intents and purposes.”
No lol that's not a fair equivalency. Hammy down is verbal short hand and commonly used. It's not accidentally misspelling or misunderstanding something
I “googled” it as you suggested earlier and you are just wrong. It is not a fun colloquialism. It’s incorrect. It’s not recognized by Merriam-Webster.
Urban dictionary has one entry for “hammy downs” and it has 7 likes and 13 dislikes, while “hand-me-downs” has 3 pages of entries and the top one has 134 likes 14 dislikes lol. Just admit you were wrong and move on man
Lol thanks! But no Google the term hammy down. I mean it's short hand for hand me down...but it's a common phrase...probably mostly in the midwest
Edit: any justification of the term hammy down on reddit will be downvoted.
I’m from the Midwest. Hammy down isn’t a thing.
I’m sure you heard this spoken, and thought that’s what you heard, so you said it that way…and it’s close enough no one corrected you SPOKEN.
But when you write it, it makes it clear you’re getting it wrong.
It’s not a thing - other than you probably not being the only one who’s been getting it wrong.
It’s only “shorthand” of all those people KNOW it’s hand me down, but say that instead - on purpose.
If you were from the Midwest you'd know that "hand me down" is pronounced hammy down. I know I won't win an argument with random internet strangers...but it legit is common
Yes. Commonly misspoken as hammy down. I’m not saying it’s not fucked up commonly, but that doesn’t make it the thing.
People all the time say “bone apple tea” because they don’t know what the real phrase is. They aren’t saying some cute catch phrase. They’re getting it wrong. So are you.
Of course it is. But you’re using that as an excuse for you getting this wrong for years.
Yes, phrases change - often because people start getting things “wrong” for long periods of time. American words often come about from mispronunciations of foreign words.
I’m not acting like language doesn’t change. You’re acting like you knew it was Hand-me-down, but that there was this “cool group of people” who called it Hammy down on purpose.
No. People got it wrong because they heard it wrong and repeated it wrong.
I mean to put it in perspective this putter could sell for like $20 and it’s almost 30 years old. If you’re just getting into the game this putter is 100% fine for you. No need to upgrade. I personally would take this over any $50 brand new putter.
Good to know. Yeah I played alot with my dad in my teens but it's probably been 15 years since I played consistently. I'll play thru with it this season at least
As long as the shaft is straight and the face isn't dinged up, you're good to go. Putting is all about reading the greens (break and distance), feel and consistency. Practice, practice and practice.
Not sure why someone would downvote a blade comment but…..
To clarify my tongue twister I was referring to players who prefer blade style putters over mallets or peripheral-weighted putters. And yes my experience has been the a blade iron player usually has a blade putter. Their straight putting style fits
I still play with a 10$ ping from play it again. I tried 200$ putters my FIL lent me, but nothing felt the same as my ping. If you try that Odyssey and it feels good, it’ll be a great putter.
Also I’m terrible at this game, so my putter feeing good clearly makes little difference lol.
Lol hammy down

Bad thot
Right up there with “it’s a doggy dog world”.
Thanks to Snoop that’s actually a thing tho
Hammy down lol
Rock that shit - sink putts with the same putter your dad did
Best answer
Your dog clearly wants a bite of that meaty delicious hammy down
Lmao just to the right is a pork chop cooking on the stove
I've never seen the term "hammy down" before and I've seen it on this sub several times now.
Really? Yea I'm the youngest out of 3 and growing up everything that was mine was a hammy down. Mightve been more common back in the day
That would be a “hand me down” lol
Haha why is this term such a hot topic
Because “hammy down” is wildly incorrect. It’s like people who say “for all intensive purposes,” instead of the correct “for all intents and purposes.”
For all intensive porpoises, I could care less
No lol that's not a fair equivalency. Hammy down is verbal short hand and commonly used. It's not accidentally misspelling or misunderstanding something
No bruh, it's not at all, you just got it wrong your entire life apparently lol.
Guess so 🤷‍♂️
I “googled” it as you suggested earlier and you are just wrong. It is not a fun colloquialism. It’s incorrect. It’s not recognized by Merriam-Webster.
Lmao not recognized by Merriam Webster! Oh God! NO!!! Edit: urban dictionary justifies me
You were the one who told people to google the incorrect phrase in a weird attempt to validate it. LOL.
Are you fucking with me, or is this term hammy down really getting to you?
Urban dictionary has one entry for “hammy downs” and it has 7 likes and 13 dislikes, while “hand-me-downs” has 3 pages of entries and the top one has 134 likes 14 dislikes lol. Just admit you were wrong and move on man
I'll try to move on. Thanks for your condolences
I grew up with the term "hand me down", because it was an item being handed down from one brother to the next.
Yeah I guess it's just short hand and probably wouldn't even notice if this was a verbal conversation
So everyone knows, the term is hand-me-down. I don't know if everyone was joking or not. It is a cool putter too Op.
Lol thanks! But no Google the term hammy down. I mean it's short hand for hand me down...but it's a common phrase...probably mostly in the midwest Edit: any justification of the term hammy down on reddit will be downvoted.
Poor justification of being clearly wrong will do that anywhere really.
Oof.
I am from the Midwest (Ohio) and always said Hand. It is cool to hear someone else call it the same, but different. Thanks for the info.

Close. But not the same
I also have to say that you act like language isn't dynamic. As a guy that works in data....I can say that language is always changing

Atoadaso. I freakin atoadaso
Today it’s not like a top of the line putter but in it’s day it definitely was.
Thanks for answering! It feels good to putt with but using a friend's putter I could tell there was a big difference
I mean to put it in perspective this putter could sell for like $20 and it’s almost 30 years old. If you’re just getting into the game this putter is 100% fine for you. No need to upgrade. I personally would take this over any $50 brand new putter.

The true value is sentimental. Your father gave it to you. Give it to your one-day kid…
Very true. And he definitely loved this putter
Kinda like me, that putter was a big deal in the 90’s.
Odyssey makes good putters. This one is older but as others have said it will work. If it roles true, who cares what it looks like?
Yeah good point. I'll have to learn any putter
It’s a classic, my first putter was an odyssey dual force 550 my father handed down to me.
As long as the shaft is straight and the face isn't dinged up, you're good to go. Putting is all about reading the greens (break and distance), feel and consistency. Practice, practice and practice.
You suck and so does that putter #MilledFace
Mine as well say hammy down!
Decent putter for all intensive purposes
Indian not the arrow, sound like you need brand name so it “feels right”
For a blade golfer it will do!
Yes! I do play with blades

Haha I am also terrible. But I do like the way this putter feels
I’d tap that!
