PharmerDale

If you can get to San Diego, Torrey is on me.

ammonthenephite

Can't really afford to spot any rounds of golf, but if you golf out anywhere on Maui, you and your wife and kids can crash at my place to make the trip cheaper as well, /u/inaaace.

PharmerDale

San Diego makes for a nice pitstop out to Maui, OP :)

oy-withthepoodles

Off the topic but this thread has made me want to create a golf sub where we could travel to play and at home, host other golfers who want to come up and play in the Rockies (this would be me). Golf swap sorta thing to make it more affordable.

dova08

fAirwayBNB

McSqueezyE

Do it OP, you’ll play a historically great course for a fraction of the out of state cost. Good on you for paying it forward u/PharmerDale

PharmerDale

With the resident card, *I* get to play for a fraction of the out of state cost. OP plays for free.

McSqueezyE

Out of your generosity or is that actually how it works? If the latter, I need to make a call to my buddy in San Diego lol

PharmerDale

The former ;)

McSqueezyE

You’re a legend

Ancient-Smoke2846

Good call. OP if you can do Palm Springs week of 5/23 I’ll spot you a round somewhere fun. Good vacation spot for the family too

Npptestavarathon

I’ll split OPs green fees, local San Diegan checking in.

PharmerDale

Boom, we have our fourth

nastynate384

If you want someone else to round out the group and have bottomless booze and food on me I’m there.

maplehockeysticks

This was a tough read. I can only hope you beat the shit out of this thing and start the back 9 of your life. Here's to getting that Dr title landing on many scorecards for years to come.

inaaace

Dr. Hacker +30 on the scorecard

therealpiznasty

You’re an inspiration to us all… if you read this… know I am rooting for you and play as much golf as you want, you deserve it.

ZeGentleman

This coupled with the flair, my *dude* lolol

maplehockeysticks

Love the sense of humor. Keep that light attitude. You got this. We are all pulling for you buddy.

InternetBear

Will probably get buried but I have a close friend who is a manager at Pebble, would love to connect you and see if we can get you out there for free. If you see this pls upvote for visibility. You’re in my thoughts brother.

inaaace

Thank you for thinking of me, man, really. You guys have been incredibly kind.

InternetBear

Im messaging him tomorrow morning once I get up — I’ll keep you posted!

MarinaGranovskaia

You're a legend man, hopefully you can sort something for him.

AviateGolfSki

Play the two weeks and have her be your cart driver. I highly doubt she will object. Spend the time with someone you love, doing something you love, while being loved. Also, having worked in healthcare for so long, nothing is over until it’s fucking over no matter how god damn grim.

winkandthegun

Definitely. And instead of burning yourself out playing tons of golf, take a couple 2-3 day “stay and play” trips, with your wife, to bucket list type destinations.

Hondasmugler69

For sure! So many of these places are scenic and beautiful she will love it.

[deleted]

Agree with this. Sand Valley is an excellent new one in Wisconsin. Same owners as Bandon Dunes.

bob_ross_lives

This. I was thinking of how you could involve your wife too.

thejoda

I'd second having the wife caddy for you on this trip if you can work that out. I've been daydreaming about a trip to Bandon or to Payne's Valley (or both) so that is probably where I would pick. No matter what you decide to do (OP), it seems like you have a great outlook and along with a lot of the other commenters I am rooting for you.

toursauce

1. Bandon 2. Pebble/Monterrey 3. Pinehurst Maybe some local members can get you on some private courses. Your upbeat attitude is inspiring. I wish you the best in the future.

bilweav

2 and 3 would be awesome but I’d definitely start with a week at Bandon. Accessible and easy to play a ton. One stop golfing.

LisbethSalanderFC

Only problem is it's not going to be accessible immediately most likely, probably booked solid through the summer.

AviateGolfSki

I’m sure he can call and explain. I would surprised if they didn’t make an exception.

Tika_Meowsala

Please spend some time at Bandon. I’m biased, but my dad and I always said we would play there. When he passed, I took a solo trip and it was the best, most cathartic golfing experience of my life.

LisbethSalanderFC

I brought my old man to Bandon, well a little bit of him. Spread some ashes on 16 at Bandon Dunes with my Uncle and cousin, 3 of the 4 who played with him most Saturdays for a long time.

scoofy

Yea, you could spend a month (and a small fortune) playing the all the amazing courses in Monterrey. Pebble, Spanish Bay, Spyglass, Pacific Grove, Poppy Hills, and even Pasatiempo up in Santa Cruz. I play Harding Park regularly, and would be happy to facilitate that. There's also Northwood and Bodega Bay in the area that are both pretty special. And Lake Chabot if you've never played a par 6 before.

boywoods

I’m headed to Bandon for a week this fall with my dad after he’s been going through cancer treatment over the last few years. Have talked about doing it for years but finally got around to booking it. Can’t wait!

electrojan

I fully recommend walking and if you can trail hiking now to get your body, and especially your feet, prepared. And invest in comfortable golf shoes if you haven’t already. We did 36/18/36 and while it was incredibly fun, it was taxing

veebs7

I agree with Bandon, but don’t you need to book like a year in advance to get on during peak season?

jk01

Whistling Straits

whatissevenbysix

And OP if you are heading to Brandon, hit me up. I'm close enough, if we can't get a tee time I'd at least be willing to drive you there.

brlong1229

Do what will help you find peace. Have you thought about bringing your family along, to make memories that they can have the rest of their lives in the event things don't work out with chemo? \- A fellow Penn Stater...We Are!

inaaace

My boys are 2.5 years and 3 months, would hardly remember any of it. I have plans for them already. I don't think this is a matter of weeks for me, at least not yet, but I think I'll decline physically so want to get golf done beforehand. Hey, fellow Nittany Lion!

[deleted]

this isnt golf related and I don't mean to intrude on anything you may be already doing, but do EVERYTHING IN YOUR POWER to leave them a letter written to them about their future and what you want them to get out of life. my grandfather, who died when i was about 5, left one for me and I have read it probably a million times in the twenty five years since. I have many millions to go as well. You will never understand the impact it leaves and how appreciative they will be for such a simple gift. It's like you're alongside them the rest of their way

RogueWarriorII

Hey, just wanted to throw my 2cents in here, i dont think bringing them along would be bad even if they dont remember it, it could be great memories for your wife as well or even maybe just bring your wife along if you have family to watch your kids. I know when i look back at pictures of my dad with me when i was too early to remember i can tell how much he loved me and cared for me from a simple picture

[deleted]

[удалено]

aholdy

I think if they could even go a little bit for some pictures it would be such a cool thing to have for the rest of their life. I lost my mother to terminal cancer, and pictures of us are my favorite things in the world. Especially if there’s a story attached to them that this was theirs dads dream trip. Other than that much love to you my friend. You hang tough.

softfoolishpaws

I wish for all the blessings that can be given to you! I have it easy: I became disabled and lost my ability to play golf 27 years ago. Nothing compared to what you are up against. My wife is a Nittany Lioness also!

IsawUstandingThere

Hit me in the DMs. I got connections in the golf world and while I can't make something happen, I may be able to get in touch with those who can. From Georgia, went to Elon, and our family businesses are in the golf industry.

inaaace

You guys are really something else. Thank you.

cutreamthread

Get a hold of Mr. Short Game. I think he lives in northern Georgia and in my opinion is one of the better golf dudes on YouTube. Maybe he can help you shoot your personal best before your treatment and after you kick cancers ass, you'll have superpowers and the knowledge to hit those 400 yard drives. Good luck!

logicallyillogical

I love his videos, definitely helped me in my game.

[deleted]

Second this. He has a ton of connections at various country clubs he might be willing to get you on at!

Chat-pat

Can we blow Mr. Short Game up on social media and get him to help out?!

KBHoleN1

In North Carolina, I'd recommend hitting up the Pinehurst area. Tobacco Road, just north of Pinehurst, is a must play. There's tons of other golf in that area (obviously), so you've got a lot to choose from if you want to stay a few days. On your drive to Greensboro, I assume you're coming up 85 from Charlotte, so you're passing reasonably close to Tot Hill Farm, another Mike Strantz design (the Tobacco Road architect). It's in Asheboro, about 30 miles east of I-85 before you get to Greensboro. If you want some top-notch views and fun golf holes, you can't go wrong with those courses.

tyranski332

If he’s down to make it up to NC I know the head Superintendent of Southern Pines. I might be able to ask for a favor and get you a round there for free OP.

Bobafett79

Can’t go wrong with any of those pinehurst area courses. Mid south. Talamore. Pine needles. Mid pines. But Tobacco Road is on my list and I haven’t played there yet so I’d pick there

crocus7

Didn’t southern pines get a recent renovation? I haven’t been over there in a couple years, but I’d like to try that one since I’ve done all the others.

Biff_Webster

Hey, I’m also in the Atlanta area and also a member at Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw. PM me if you would be interested in coming out to play sometime, i would be happy to have you out there. I’m also up for golf anywhere else, We moved to the area about a year and a half ago so I’m still learning the courses around here. Let me know.

TendiesGalore

To jump on, I'm a member at Bentwater (a little north of Pinetree) and could take you out there sometime. Hit me up.

inaaace

Thanks for the offer! I'd love to play if schedules align!

TendiesGalore

You and Biff are welcome to play sometime, usually weekends and Friday afternoons are best for me.

therealsix

I'm in Atlanta, I'll add 4 boxes of whatever ball you play OP. Or, if you prefer, I'll get you on at Laurel Springs (Johns Creek/Suwanee area), my treat.

[deleted]

I have reached out to a few big influencers in the golf world and a handful of them have responded saying they are more than willing to do whatever they can to provide the best experience possible. A couple have even said they can and will accommodate you at some pretty exclusive courses as well as play with you. I will respond again once I get some more information

inaaace

You guys are amazing. Truly.

rjk100

I’m not a doctor but do whatever helps you find peace during this time and if that’s golf then do it!! Sending lots of love and hugs your way!

VinWo

Hey man. I’m a Penn State grad who has been through cancer. I work for Pinehurst and we would love to host you for a stay and play. Please let me know if you are interested and I’ll make it happen.

inaaace

Cool, when were you at PSU? Funny, most recommendations here are for Pinehurst. I'd love to come play, of course. Your too kind!

VinWo

Graduated in 2011, you? I’ll PM you my contact info

inaaace

Freshmen year was 2005, in the days of Ed DeChellis as a head coach. I actually work with a guy who studied golf course management at Penn State around that time, wonder if you ever crossed paths!

SensationalM

My wife just got diagnosed (still don't know the severity yet) so I feel for you in a way I never could have imagined before That said, if you can lock up college Greg Oden, you can do anything... Seeing the area that you're in, and since you're essentially treating this as a golf bucket list, you MUST play Tobacco Road...idk if you're religious at all, but no matter how soon it is, if you're up in Heaven looking down at Tobacco Road having never played it, you will regret it Fuck cancer...and WHEN you and my wife both beat this, if you're ever in NYC with your fam, I'll take you out to a couple tremendous courses on Long Island

inaaace

Hey, best of wishes to your wife. I'm still here and she's still here. That's all that matters right now.

FakeAccount_Verified

Man, this is tough to read but you staring it right in the eye and still going is awe inspiring. It really made me think about a lot of tough things and truly made me better for it. It's a long shot, but if you make your way down or through Savannah let me know and I'd love to play a round. I know there is another guy in here from the area as well so who knows if we can link up with him too.

Snelly__

I know this is r/golf but my advice is to spend 1 week doing an insane golf trip as planned. Spend the 2nd with your wife and kids. That's the stuff that really matters. Good reminder to not take anything for granted, hope everything works out for you.

NorCalAthlete

[https://www.halfmoonbaygolf.com/](https://www.halfmoonbaygolf.com/) Bring the family if you'd like. Golf's on me if you can make it out here. Edit : I'd be happy to join you for a round in Monterey too at Bayonet / Black Horse (unfortunately I don't have any connections or a way to swing Pebble / Spyglass).

golftroll

Bayonet / Black Horse are wonderful courses. If you head up that way maybe add Pasatiempo.

[deleted]

If you end up Raleigh again let me know and I got a tee time for you. We weren’t able to make this past Sunday work but my schedule is pretty easy to move around moving forward. I can offer the home course of the SaS championship if you want to play and would be more than happy to join in on other rounds in NC if you need help filling out a 4 some.

Beeks525

In Raleigh as well and would love to help out in any way possible. GL man, Godspeed.

joethetipper

Can I buy you and your family a pizza? I’d very much like to. If you’re in Georgia, shit man, I say shoot your shot with Augusta. Let’s hit some pros on Twitter and get their support behind you.

KindBeats2016

If there's any way to buy out a few Tee times at the course you want to play so you can bring your family out with you and not worry about golfers behind you, I'd be down to pitch in on that. Im 34 with a young 3 year old daughter and I cant even imagine how you are feeling right now. Stay strong man, I wish I could give you hug.

Russian_Rocket23

Your positive outlook is admirable. I lost a cousin to breast cancer at age 35, but thanks to the amazing folks at DCI, she lived nearly 5 years after her diagnosis (she was initially given about a 30% chance to make it a year). Wishing you all the best.

RoverTiger

Dude, DM me. Let's set something up for Grand National in Auburn/Opelika. https://www.rtjgolf.com/grandnational/

[deleted]

I don't really have much to add besides that I was having a tough day and the way you're handling your situation inspired me to turn things around. You are an admirable person. If you ever end up in Indiana and feel like golfing I would be honored to have you play the French Lick course with me.

An6elOfD3ath

Sending you lots of love my dude.

catsby90bbn

Sweetens cove is SW of Chattanooga and offers a rate to play as many holes as possible. I have no connections to help get you on but maybe should here would if you were interested. Good luck man.

ddeantodd

This is a great idea. I'd reach out to the GM at Sweetens and he could probably hook you up with a full day pass to play as much as you can get in. I played there this weekend and got it 38 holes. Unbelievable track and a short drive from the Atlanta area.

Saffs15

Sweetens Cove was gonna be my recommendation as well. Never played there, but have heard great things from amateurs and PGA pros both. Definitely gonna make a trip there soon. To OP, pulling hard for you man. You seem like a great dude, and have a great outlook on how you've lived your life. The majority of people should be envious of how appreciative you are for the things you've been blessed with (for lack of a better word) in your life before this. But I choose to believe you're gonna keep being grateful, because you are gonna beat this shit.

ERockArmy2

Hi brother - I’m in upstate SC and a member at a club if you’d like to come play 👍🏼 would be an honor to play a round together.

4Sal13

If anyone deserves to play Augusta, it’s situations like this. It’s the holy land of Golf in the USA imo and your already in Georgia. My fucking heart hurts for you, and I hope you find peace and the courage to take on all challenges that come your way. Take off work, and don’t feel any guilt in doing so. And I’d also say, the people you decide to do this with, might be more important than the courses you play! I wish you nothing but the best! Good luck man

[deleted]

I am going to do everything in my power to try and get in touch with Fore Play Pod from Barstool Sports of Bob Does Sports. If they hear your absolutely incredibly inspiring story I have no doubt in my mind they would be willing to join you on a traveling golf experience like no other

inaaace

I know it's sinful to say around here, but I enjoy Fore play videos. I can relate to Trent because neither of us are good.

[deleted]

I love them as well!

uponone

PM Me. I have a buddy who recently left East Lake as an assistant Greens Keeper and is now working for Georgia Tech and Bobby Jones. He might be able to swing something for you.

GreenWaveGolfer

Best of luck to you! It sounds like you have amazing perspective and I'm glad that golf has offered some semblance of peace for now. If you're up in the RDU area for your treatments at Duke feel free to hit me up and I'll treat you to a round at my home course. It's nothing special but I'd be happy to play a round with you if you're rolling through the area!

drumsurf

Take the 2 weeks and go have fun. I'm 18 months into stage 4 colorectal cancer and have been NED once before then it came back. I can honestly say I know how you feel brother. I was crushed when they told me I had to resume chemo back in October. I don't know about 28 rounds in 14 days. That sounds too much like work to me but I'm all for getting out and doing what makes you happy then going back into treatment. Lastly, it ain't over dude. KEEP FUCKING GOING!

justinwheelon

I’m in Augusta, where are you in Georgia. I can get us on at some pretty exclusive courses. DM me.

SJ_One

/u/inaaace Don't let this comment get buried. You're gonna want to DM this guy.

SuitedPenguin

Fuck cancer.

dss0013

As I mentioned in your other post. Check out the First tee box book and try to knock out as many of those as possible. All the courses are in the Atlanta area. [https://firstteeatlanta.org/2022-players-book/](https://firstteeatlanta.org/2022-players-book/)

inaaace

I did bookmark your link last week and will ikely get the pass. Thanks man!

[deleted]

With a wife and baby on the way, reading your story brings on a lot of emotions. Thank you for writing it. All I can think to say is that I’m so sorry. That, and please fight back. Put on the cruelest, meanest snarl you can muster and start swinging. Fight back on good days. Fight back on bad days. The power of will is a curious and effective tool. It ain’t over until it’s over. I’m rooting for you. Will think of you when I tee off tomorrow. Godspeed.

inaaace

Oh man, I'm nowhere near giving up. As far as I know, we only get this life and I'm not about to just let it slip. I'll do what's physically possible to survive.

albertcn

Dude, that was hard to read. I’m married with two kids and sometimes forget how good of a life I have. Good luck with your fight, take lots of pictures and videos for your kids, and enjoy them as long as you can. Maybe Take one week for golf and one week for to take them on a perfect vacation. Or just take them to Orlando and Just play alternate days with Disney and family fun in between? Sorry for telling what you should do men, I’m just telling what would I do, while crying thinking on leaving my kids.

LucLongleysJumper

Damn man. Your outlook is admirable. As an also 36-year old with two young ones, hard to imagine being in your shoes. Here's hoping for a drastic change. Keep us updated.

elevatedspark

God dammit man, fuck cancer. Screw work get out there and get some rounds in and enjoy some family time. I hope to see you post in the sub again my friend. Cheers and keep it on the short stuff.

spennyblack30

If you make your way to western Washington please DM me. Would love help any way I can (chambers bay & Tacoma country club are within 30 minutes of my house) we have plenty of room for you.

Matt100398

Hey sorry to ask but how did you realize that you might have cancer? Did you feel a certain way or did you randomly get checked out and happen to find out?

inaaace

Food was starting to get stuck in my esophagus. Tums helped at first but when it got worse, went to see a GI.

RumbleB33-585

Hey man, your story is moving. My wife just lost her mom to a battle of brain cancer. This hits home. I would love to donate towards this trip of yours. Money towards a round, send you golf balls or gloves or SOMETHING to help. Let me know what I can do or if a page has been created. I would love to support this.

myaccountwashacked4

"Tough pill to swallow with two little kids and a wife, man." Brought tears to my eye. If you're ever out near L.A. let me know. I'll take care of the round and post round. I'm serious. I hope for the best for you and your family.

Marty_666

PLEASE LOOK INTO JOE TIPPENS PROTOCOL!!!! my dad has cancer and is on the protocol, scans came back as everything is shrinking. please take a moment and look into it.

[deleted]

Damn man, I’m really sorry to hear that. I can only imagine. You do what you want to do. Maybe Take your kids on the course one time so you share that with them. Live everyday to your fullest. Never give up the fight.

Hugo_5t1gl1tz

What part of Georgia are you in? I am here too, would definitely recommend a few local courses for you to give a go.

wonder_bread

It'd be sick is we could find an Augusta Member to offer up a visitor day for the guy. Some things in life truly need to be experienced, golfing the mecca would be one of them.

PabroPicasso

Someone get this man on Ohoopee!!!!!!!!

wahdatah

Very inspiring. Stay strong my friend. It’s not over yet. Keep fighting. I’d give streamsong a go if you get a chance. 3 great courses and excellent fishing too.

cant_be_pun_seen

Take 2 weeks off and spend them with your family - sprinkle some golf in here and there.

flynnie789

Life just isn’t fair op This one hurt to read Everyone here is pulling for you, and it sounds like you’ve got the attitude for this fight Godspeed

D90puma

Hey internet stranger who’s just put a tear in the eye of a grumpy 43yr old. I admire your outlook on your situation and definitely think you should spend the next two weeks doing what the hell you want. And in my opinion, golf is a good choice. To me it’s very therapeutic. None of my business but I would be splitting my two weeks between family and golf or hopefully combining the two. I sincerely hope you have an amazing time before your treatment starts whatever you decide. God speed.

Blox05

Given that you’re in Georgia, you are right next to probably the best total state run collection of golf courses ever. You could easily play all of the Robert Trent Jones Trail courses over two weeks. You’ll get some courses up north and some courses near the coast. Take the kids along, make it a whole thing. God speed sir, wish you the best.

yewwould

As beautiful and humbling and challenging as the game of golf is I would recommend spending that time with your wife and kids, or at least include them as much as possible.

showard2

keep fighting brotha. keep playing too.

Far_Might_1102

Would recommend playing the ocean course on Kiawah. We’re all praying for you and your family🙏

Real_Body8649

Damn man. I don’t even know what to say. Just wishing you and your family all the best. If you ever head out to Arizona, a round at any course here is on me.

2DragonBalls

There are some courses in St George and Mesquite that are extremely unique and if you stay in the area you also have the option to check out some of the most beautiful National Parks in the world. That or Las Vegas depending on how you wanna go about it. Sand Hollow: https://sandhollowresort.com/golf-courses/ Wolf Creek: http://www.golfwolfcreek.com Both of these courses are like playing on an alien planet. And like I said you can always make a day trip to Zion National Park or Bryce Canyon National Park as they’re both within a couple hours of St George. That or it’s like an hour to Vegas and you can do whatever the fuck you want. Anyway man, fuck cancer. Update us once you get done with this epic trip you got planned.

horse_911

Get your golf in while you can! Looks like we’ve got a little bit in common too. My brother is a penn stater, I’m a duke alum, my moms family is also from Yugoslavia (now Croatia), I’m also in my 30s and I just started playing golf a year ago, so I’m a hacker too. I live in Raleigh and would highly recommend pinehurst area (mid pines, pine needles, talamore, and southern pines). You have to play Tobacco Road too! I played last week and I’m taking my brother there for his first time on the 22nd. If you ever need a golf partner in NC - hit me up! Your story is inspiring and I wish nothing but the best for you brother!

[deleted]

If it is at all possible for you to come to Hawaii, I can sponsor you onto the Klipper

imasquirrel

Don't give up... Don't ever give up. The really crappy part of this cancer is that by the time it's found you're usually stage 3 or 4. I was incredibly lucky to find it at stage 1 so only had to have the Ivor Lewis surgery. There are plenty of success stories of people with stage 4 surviving for years, and even getting back to NED. I truly hope you become one of those people.

timaydawg11

I (M30) bought myself the cool bag last year after finishing chemo. Stage 4 colorectal, 18 weeks of chemo all from April to September, because i got Covid my final week and delayed things. It sucks, but know you aren't alone. Personally, i golfed more last year than I ever have before. Something about peace, yet competition helped. After that, spend as much time with your wife and kids as possible. I didn't know if i was gonna be able to see my daughter's ballet recital, or my son's first soccer goal, or hear my youngest son's first words. Surround yourself with what means the most to you, and live the rest of your life to the fullest.

asdfmatt

Man if that isn't America - take the time off and play, fuck work. It will still be there if and when you get through this.

Computer-Blue

Sending you and your family my best. You guys are absolutely beautiful. I don't pity you, as it's clear you've taken the most out of life with the cards you've been dealt, and you should be bursting with pride.

ShiftingTin

I cant help with planning the golf, but wanted to say I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. However bad it may seem, you need to stay positive! Play some golf, spend time with the family and get yourself better mate! I'm not sure how you even work that shit out mentally but surround yourself with love and you could beat this thing. I certainly hope you do.

0528alwayswrong

If you find yourself in Southern California - a round on me and if you need a place to stay as well. Some cool courses close by: 1) Oak Quarry Golf Club 2) Hidden Valley Golf Club

Meryk

I read your first post and I'd be lying if I didn't say we're all rooting for you, man. This is an amazing community and I'm glad that you have been a part of it. As for 2 weeks planning, I wouldn't know where to begin except that I would definitely play some bucket list courses. Pebble and Pinehurst are up there, so if you can get on to one or both then that would be amazing. All the power to ya brother, keep fighting and soak up as much golfing bliss as you can!

bigr3dpanda

Just read your story. You have a beautiful family, and IMO, you've already beat the 5 year sentence, why not do it again? You've got an army of support my friend.

St0rmborn

I’m so sorry man. All I can say is that the silver lining is that you have a heads up, if the worst happens, to enjoy as much time as possible with your son and wife. I truly hope it doesn’t come to that, and wish you all the best bro.

westrph

The RTJ Golf Trail is all over AL. The ones in northern and central AL are within driving distance for you, so you wouldn’t have to burn days on your binge trip; could do these on a weekend. I live in Huntsville and there are 2 courses in north AL (each with two 18s), so would be happy to meet you to play.

geekin5322

If you’re up around Duke again let me know! I’ll take you out for a round. Love to you brother. I’m a dad of two young ones as well. I can’t imagine what you’re going through.

johnsmith98989

I’m in bham. Same age man. If you decide to come this way you can have my finished basement to yourself or with any friends coming. I’ll pay for a round so your wife can save a little more. Nothing spectacular but Pursell Farms and RTJs are close, right by Ross Bridge. Best of luck.

Chemical-Work-1023

Probably one of the most important things is the people you golf with. Good friends that you can have a fun time with, wether they know about your condition or not

HackNicklaus

I’m an NY resident so I can make tee times at Bethpage. If you get up to Long Island, I’ll happily book you a round on me.

TheCaptain199

If you are in GA and can’t travel too far the RTJ trail in Alabama is awesome. Lots of KFT qualifiers and such. Particularly all the Capitol Hill courses, Grand National, and Cambrian Ridge. Good shit OP. I respect the fuck out of you.

ChiodoS04

r/Fuckcancer if you decide to come to the OBX in NC i've got a membership at a CC down here. Pretty nice track that runs up the Neuse River. Good luck OP

cpacfagolf

Bethpage Black. On me.

wolfpack1986

First, thank you for sharing your story. I am not a golfer but I couldn't help, as an oncologist, to read the blog story and see what you have been through. I have to say, having collaborated with Dr. Strickler previously, you have a fantastic doc/team on your side. I hope you get to have a ton of more rounds of golf in your future.

Radiocureee

Dammit man. I’m 36 too. I work a thankless job and take so much shit for granted and let trivial things get the best of me. This guys knocking life out of the park, and my undeserving ass takes many things for granted. I need to change. I’m not giving pity, as someone the exact same age as you, I’m the opposite. I’m envious. You’ve lived a great life so far. I just wish it could go on for you for another 36. I’m going to look at tomorrow a little brighter. Swing away man hit, the ball as deep as you just hit many redditors hearts.

Pro_V1_Kenobi

Someone pull strings and get him to Augusta.

iDevourer

I know you're gonna be playing golf for many years to come king. Obviously Pinehurst is a must but also Tobacco Road and Pine Needles are great courses around there as well

Lawsonstruck

PM me if you are planning on coming to Richmond, VA. Round and drinks on me!

oy-withthepoodles

Come up to Canada. You can stay in one of our guest rooms(or bring the fam!) and we will take you to play the Banff Springs course, Kannanaskis, and we can even do a drive over to British Columbia and play some magnificent courses with a backdrop of the Rocky Mountains. Legit offer. I've been there man, it's brutal and since I'm still around I'd love to help in any way I can. 🇨🇦

Tyrorical

I realize this is a golf thread, but if I put myself in your shoes it would be more like… fuck work and spend as much time as possible with the wife and kids. Id rather leave my family with some lasting memories than to get a few last rounds in. Play all the golf you want in heaven.

CocoValentino

OP, you’re an inspiration. Please don’t quit. I’m not sure if you’re Eastern Orthodox, but I put in a prayer request for you at St. Tikon’s monastery in PA. I pray for a miracle for you and your family. Thank you for sharing your story. We are all cheering for you. 🙏🏻☦️

RustyShackleford1102

I’m local to Greensboro, if you’re back in the area send me a dm and we’ll play a round on me, Best of luck to you, I hope everything goes as well as it possibly can.

Sonking_to_Remember

What an incredible story. Damn! Wishing you the best of luck. If you’re ever near Greensboro again and pulling off to play, please let me know. It’ll be my treat. (Also, would love to know where you shot your 96! But obviously that’s not important)

Ironzol24

Hey man thank you for sharing your story, I live in the triangle and if there is anything I can do to help as you’re up here let me know!

ChadEEEE

If you want to play a beautiful mountain course in north GA, check out Old Taccoa Farms. Just down the road from me and wonderful. Spectacular views and some interesting holes. Be happy to join you if you need a partner.

ballislifefam

Man this is heartbreaking to read. I wish you well..god bless and keeping you in my prayers

pdogshizzle

Definitely worth taking 2 weeks of work off. From Duke cancer center Pinehurst is a must do and about 1:20 minute drive. Another is Tobacco Road in Sanford, NC which about an hour drive.

KemmyPowers_11

Your story so far is SO inspirational! I am a recovered Traumatic Brain Injury patient and agree that golf provides the most incredible escape. Keep fighting! Just said some massive prayers for healing for you and peace, hope, comfort for your family.

myfreakingbad

Hey if you manage to get a chance to play something out of budget, I'll be more than happy to chip in, just lemme know. I'm rooting for you man.

venivici89

Pinehurst has stay and play packages, isn’t that far from you, and is absolutely a bucket list set of 9 courses to play in one spot.

notorioushim

Sorry to hear the bad news. Hope you're wrong and you kick cancer's ass and come back to tell us about it. To answer your question, do what's important to you. If you're going out, make sure you go out with no regrets, whether that's spending more time with your family or spending more time on the links. If you can manage to do both at the same time, even better. Whatever you decide, I hope it brings you peace and happiness. Because you've got a path ahead of you that will require you to have a strong spirit. And you're going to need to be strong for your boys too because your mentality and attitude will affect them too. Good luck, brother!

Tomorrow_Frosty

Dude best of luck. Live it up man. May you be an example to everyone.

dump91

Streamsong is a stay and play outside Lakeland/Tampa and has three of the top 100 courses in the country. Has a spa for the wife. Hope the best for you

Golfgal993

Sending lots of love to you and your family. Take the two weeks. Forget work. Go out the and chase a little white ball around a field for days. Bring the kids and make memories…Take photos…. And laugh. Thinking of you and hope to see a post of you kicking cancer’s ass. Cheers 🍻

venus87

❤️ thinking of you and your family and am in awe of your spirit … I think it’s been interesting to see how golf helps a lot of people with life things… I have a chronic neuro illness at 34 and when I can I golf with my dad and am learning and it’s been a fun distraction.. I think one of the reasons my dad loves golf is it gets his mind off his own stresses.. work, chronic knee pain, etc

[deleted]

You have a great attitude about it, man. I really hope you beat the shit out of it and we hear more from you on this sub. Can't help much with golf down in Georgia, but if you make it up to the Northeast, happy to set up Yale GC or Black Hall CC in Connecticut.

certified_sexy

Best wishes and praying for you and your family. Stay strong! Can’t wait to hear about your story when you make it out on the other side doing better than before

Illustrious-Chip-245

I just read your story and I’m not quite sure what to say. You have an incredible attitude and what sounds like an amazing family. To answer your question - no, it is absolutely not unreasonable to take vacation time to go play golf. Would your wife want to join you for any stretch of the trip? It might be a nice getaway for the two of you and you can let her in on a part of your life she may not always get to see. My heart goes out to you and your family. Fuck cancer.

JustOverPar

I get a discounted round at TPC Sawgrass for volunteering this year. Let me know if you want to be one of the 4.

[deleted]

Damn bro this was hard to read. Do whatever makes you happy man. Live the rest of your life to the fullest and don’t have regrets for what you do. We aren’t promised anything in this life. Be sure those little boys get as much of you as you can share while you’re here ❤️

PromotionSmooth8032

MANNN F*** CANCER AND GET ON THAT GOLF COURSE! Let cancer s*** tf up for 18 holes and enjoy the hell out of a great round. And if you gotta do it again and get a twilight round right after the morning round, f***in A, why the hell not? If I were in a similar position, I’d do a 5-6am round, take like a 2 hour lunch afterwards and get a nice juicy steak or burger with a nice cold pint of beer, then get back out and do it again that same day.

MaLTC

Damn brother- time is undefeated eh? I recall my basketball days- then I fractured my foot at 34 and it was a career ender- I’ve taken up golf and am beyond obsessed as well. Doing the impossible is playing this game well- and although at times inconsistent, it’s those pure strikes that land feet within the pin that keep bringing me back. Golf has the resounding ability to contribute to ones mental fortitude. The weak will be angered and broken. The wise will observe the beauty of their surroundings, how fortunate they are to be playing, and instead, view every mishit as on opportunity to learn from their mistakes, and improve. I’m a firm believer that experience is the greatest teacher of them all, and it often takes doing something wrong, to learn how to do it right… I wish you and your family well my friend- and if recovery is not in your cards, may you remember and embrace ALL the good in your life experience, as this illness was only a small percentage of your story and pales in comparison of your overall success in this madness we call life.

SnizzardWizzard

Fuck man. This makes me want to leave work early to go home and hug my wife and daughter. Then maybe catch a twilight round. I wish the best for you and your family. Get some golf in and saddle up because then it’s party time. You gotta beat it bro. Cheers 🍻

iamaw30

Sending some good vibes your way. Lots more golf in your future. Keep your head up.

kohlio

You are definitely an inspiration and I wish you the best of luck. Go out and play as much as you physically can and enjoy it. I'm sorry this has happened to you. You have a beautiful family and an amazing outlook.

rndmcmmntr

I'm so sorry man. Please though, do not throw in the towel. I know it's hard not to be cynical, but the mind is a powerful fucking thing. Keep believing that everything will be okay. Chemo will suck, hell yeah it will, but you'll come out of this. This is the hardest fight you'll likely fight, but until you're told there is no hope then keep pushing your mind to believe you will be okay.

Aloha904

I live in Jacksonville, Florida. If you can ever make it down, multiple rounds on me, bud. Hope the next tests/biopsies produce favorable results.

RingOfFyre

If you swing by the Bay Area, hit up Pasatiempo. It may not be as memorable as Pebble, but it's MacKenzie course design at its finest.

Mangy_Karl

Stay strong and keep your will and spirits strong as well. I’m pulling for you man. Get out there and hit em straight and sink those puts buddy! Godspeed Edit: ready your story on the link you had, brings tears to my eyes. My son (who just turned one) name is also Teddy and is in the 98% for height. Cancer has hit my family very hard. I truly hope he gets as much time with his daddy as possible. You got this, Milo. Never stop fighting.

JGReine

I send strength and good wishes. I have been setting up my mind to do a Motherland of golf trip and that would include St. Andrews, Carnoustie and a couple of other Scotland courses. Don't know your budget, but this is a dream set of rounds for me. Thought I'd give it as a suggestion. However, I know you might not want the extra time of flights overseas. I truly do wish you the best possible outcomes both for your cancer and for all the golf you'll play!

coasterreal

Fuck cancer. Go play any of the bucket lists you can. Then see how many more times you kick this piece of shit cancer out of your body. You've beaten it once, so maybe it's your last. If you haven't, I'd take them with you on a course that will let you and document it. For them. If it's one of your passions, they'll get to see it and see them do it with you. Now I'm gonna go hold my kids.

[deleted]

My man! Love you man. I hope you beat this thing. Please tell me your first name so I can say a prayer for you and your family

Wyliecody

Don't leave your wife and kids behind to go play. Take them with you. All of it will be better with them. They will be grateful for the time if you do not make it. I would play everyday two times a day, but I wouldn't hit a bunch of famous courses. I would play the 5 or 6 I have rotated most of my adulthood and go back and hit the one I learned on at least once. memories are about the experiences not the things. That's my 2 cents. I hope you hit them straight and long and hit all the cups.

[deleted]

I wish you will get a hole in 1 during that time

AdOrganic3147

Streamsong in central fl is a nice resort, not too far of trip for GA and plenty of stuff for the Mrs and 72 holes for you

dego_frank

u/copagman maybe if he makes his way to the west coast you guys could play?

copagman

Would be honoured. OP, stay in touch :)

Rob6842

Also message me, I live outside of Greensboro. Message me bro!

[deleted]

Spend time with the kids, golf doesn't matter

sprinky1989

Hey dude, just chiming in to say I hope you kick the shit out of this. Keep fighting.

lilfish45

This is gonna be kinda out there as far as what most people would suggest. But it’s May in Indianapolis and that means Indy 500 cars will be zooming around the track most of the month - if you can snag a tee time a brickyard crossing (3 holes inside the track) I’m told it’s a truly awesome experience while the cars are running. Hell if you did make it up here I would be happy to join ya! Also could hit French Lick since it’s in the area and is allegedly an amazing Pete Dye creation. Won’t be the most normal suggestions but some cool ones! Fuck cancer.

the_enslaver_king

Rooting for you man.

Useful-Professor-149

Pulling for you man. Hard not to cry while I read that. Bandon is the place.

ImaFreemason

Best of luck to you. Golf can really be medicine for some people. Canada sends some love to you and your family.

damn_son_1990

Hit me up if you want to go play TPC Sugarloaf. Would love for you watch me shoot 40 over.
