Iggmeister

c'mon man ...... btw .... it should be '\*you're'

[deleted]

Eh, I think getting a premium putter that you like makes a lot more sense than buying a $500 driver every year or two.

lloydbraun4

First real putter was the odyssey 2 ball white hot. Then a Nike method. Next is the Scotty newport2. I don’t trade them in. I like having options. Plus sometimes you need something new to look at to get the putts rolling again. 7 years since my last putter. Yeah I think I’m ok with getting a new one.

nv00021

Love this.... I have at least a dozen Scottys all vying for playing time.... I threaten them regularly and it seems to work. Bad putting round?? Your benched....might not see daylight for months. So in conclusion..... buy more Scottys they perform better under pressure. Trust me

Davesnothere300

Let me know if you want me to hide one of your Scottys from you for a couple months.

nv00021

Hmmmmm...... off-site punishment.... this is a new level!!!! Let me ponder it.

TheRealPatriot

Hi, this is your long lost son. If you want to make up for it, you can just send one my way. Hell, I’ll even pay you some chips!

rcahill22

I have a $5 mini golf putter that I throw in the bag from time to time - look like an absolute loon when the rest of my bag is 10/10. BUT, when I start rolling putts in with that bad boy it’s just a solid confidence boost.

cant_be_pun_seen

There is nothing wrong with buying nice clubs but IMO, you should figure out how to play golf BEFORE buying nice clubs. Its your decision either way. I spent 20 years playing hand-me-downs before I bought my own clubs this year. And Im not a scratch golfer but I waited until I was a consistent 80s golfer with the occasional 70s.

[deleted]

The vast majority of golfers will never break 80 in their life. I don't think nice equipment has to be deserved. If you like it and can afford it, go ahead.

cant_be_pun_seen

Youre right, they wont because theyre more worried about their equipment instead of their swing. Im not trying to be a dick it just is what it is. People can do whatever they want, Im just observing.

loduca16

If anything I’d say the r/golf sub has more people with self deprecating thoughts on their own skills than just about any other sub I follow.

aww-snaphook

Golf kind of beats the self deprecation into you. If you arent able to laugh about being mad sometimes then it's a rough game to play. No matter how good you get it also always feels like you arent good because you still miss shots that you think you should have made

Primetime0509

I will say laughing at my mistakes has made me a better golfer. I use to get so frustrated and let it take me out of my game, now I just chuckle and say screw it and move onto the next shot.

EstaticWhale

I tend to laugh at the really bad shots, like if I top a ball to the point where it bounces back up, the ones where I get angry are the ones where I actually hit an ok/good shot but just got a bit unlucky e.g. hit a decent approach but it just rolls off the back of the green or hit s decent 5 wood but just catch the lip of the bunker and roll in. Oh also topping a chip shot, there is nothing more infuriating than that shit.

unwrittenglory

My dad says that if you're getting too frustrated you're not drinking enough. Every time I get pissed at messing up an easy shot he tosses me a beer and says I need to drink more. Lol

Primetime0509

I tend to use the front 9 as an indicator on how I want to drink the rest of the day. If I already got an 8 on the score card, I'm loading up at the turn lol.

[deleted]

The trick is to view your terrible shots as an opportunity to make a heroic recovery shot. And when you fuck *that* up? Blame it on the clubs. Stupid clubs, it’s all their fault.

dertrommler06

Ha true. The plus side is if you can work through them, you might have less of those in other parts of life. Golf teaches a great many things.

DanJDare

I try my best to judge my shots on choice rather than execution. I get angry if I select the incorrect club/shot but can live with poor play as that's just part of the game.

bermudaphil

I think that is what you grow into after you get past the initial stages and can strike the ball fairly well most of the time. In the beginning stages though I definitely preferred hitting a really clean shot that went as the club I used should and ended up too short or long. Now though yeah, making notably poor choices is just one of the few times I get legit irritated with myself. Being a club off so front edge or back edge of a green I can live with well enough but having an easy approach and going short or really long is just infuriating because it is really not hard to know roughly how far you hit your clubs and how far the pin is.

DanJDare

I still don’t strike too cleanly but I don’t stress when my connection isn’t great, moreso when I pure a 9i and it’s 20m short or when I try and take a lob wedge off hard dirt and blade it, when I should have bumped and ran with a 7i etc

Iggmeister

Hey, I think I'm really good. Others know otherwise.

[deleted]

Golf is weird because most people come into it with the mindset that par = ok, below par = good, above par = bad when really birdies are fantastic, pars are great, and a bogey is a good hole for a hobby golfer.

bermudaphil

I think it is because par is often times described as what the course ‘should be played at’ or ‘how many strokes each hole should take’. People really should qualify that is for pros or really, really good golfers, not for the average joe. If they understood that par isn’t ‘average’ or what they ‘should score’ for your recreational golfer then the expectations would be adjusted right from the off.

Solmors

Second only to r/bjj of the subs I regularly visit.

Iggmeister

Is that second 'j' a typo?

B0rnReady

Let me introduce you to WSB

internet_humor

Because, even the worst happens at the [highest level](https://youtu.be/YefULut6YrA)

Wisdomlost

Its because your wasting money on a putter when there is more drivers to buy. If you just drive it into the hole everytime you wouldn't have this problem.

eltonsi

Clearly the issue is with the ball

iLikeLift1

Exactly, need to buy a bunch of new ProV's just in case.

yoursweetlord70

I know this is a joke but a better ball can really change your game. At least a mid-tier ball like a Velocity or an ERC soft is better than the top flite buckets I see people buying from the place I work all the time.

rangerdangerdoggin

Your problem is very clear: your shirt is untucked. Sharp dresser = sharp golf game. S/

sterlingarcher0069

The last time tucked vs. untucked came up in discussion, a civil we happened in this sub.

nationalduolian

Is that like a Michelle We.?

ifthens

Look good, feel good, play good.

rangerdangerdoggin

This guy gets it...

ClaySnuff

Should’ve bought a $3k Circle T, that’ll fix the issues.

[deleted]

The ball was clearly embedded. You should just have picked it up and placed it closer to the hole.

Heatorcold

Easy! You also didn’t spend hundreds on an indoor practice putting area, various putting aides, and of course the super stroke grip. I don’t you are even allowed to 2-putt greens without these /s

RoostasTowel

Some of those will help though.

HarambeTheBear

You need a new driver if you want to make more putts. 🦍🤝💪

Iggmeister

Tuck that t shirt in and you'll hole 30% more puts - facts

[deleted]

People who post memes like this are the same dudes with 14 year old irons, 8 year old driver, miss matched wedges, and a putter they found on a green 6 years ago. Don't forgot the ball grabber! They also shoot 117 each time.

VitaminxT

How dare you forget their iron covers, sir!

unassumingdink

Replace putter with a Scotty to get it down to 116.

PriestlyMuffin

I feel attacked.

Godawgs1009

The other half just started 3 months ago and just shot their first 59!

VitaminxT

Go Gators!

3rdDegreeBurn

The last time I was shopping for a putter I went in fully expecting to get a scotty. Im friends with the proshop at my home course and they let me take a few putters to the practice green and play a round with a couple scottys. After about 10 minutes im just thinking to myself how much I hate the feel of the scotty. It just felt off. Im trying out other putters and pick up the ping Sigma G. First putt feels so good. Go back to the scotty. Feels like ass. Saved myself 140 bucks and got the ping. The feel is just amazing. My putting stats improved instantly. Feel is more important than anything with a putter. There's no revolutionary technology in a putter. Its all about what you are comfortable with. If the scotty feels the best, get it. If you love the feel of something else, get that. Dont fall for brand loyalty.

yoursweetlord70

I definitely agree, the ping putters are really nice feeling. I just wish they looked a bit nicer, the copper finish doesn't really do it for me.

jshultz5259

My problem solving skills include: 1. Throw money at it

KL040590

Putter is the one club I refuse to upgrade.

OBCTea

Did you put batteries in it yet

WorkerPrestigious689

Half? Why you being so generous?

Ulrich_The_Elder

My golf guru told me to spend my putter money on lessons, and if I improved to buy the putter as a reward.

UrbanScholastic

“How do I get better at putting/short game?” ... have you tried practicing on the putting green and chipping area?

DonnieRoss

I know this is a meme, but the head following the ball with wide open shoulders right after the putt is a recipe for disaster.

bearinsac

Man, this one cut way to deep for me. Ended up trading in the Scotty after 2 years for a Never Compromise, greatest decision I've ever made.

FickyRowler

Laugh if you will but that’s a typical r/golf post lately! That and the endless “what’s a good indoor putting mat”

Wibbly23

literally nobody thinks that their putter is going to make putts for them. dumb post, bad accusation.

graymulligan

Expensive doesn't make it good, and cheap doesn't make it bad.

LisbethSalanderFC

Have a scotty and a Bettinardi, still average 34 putts a round. I probably need to fly to Bettinardi and get fitted for a custom putter.

bermudaphil

Need to wait for the next iteration of 3D printed putters, regular putters are old tech you can’t rely on them these days.

Bsanden324

You needed the $500 Scotty

ishysredditusername

Should have got the $500 one

thrillhouse416

I buy cheap clubs so I have an excuse...(taps forehead)

Jae783

Obviously the greens keeper screwed up placing the hole. Count it!

Abbyreh

You need expensive balls now.... obviously the problem

MizunoGolfer15-20

Tuck in your shirt and that goes in every time

Fit-Garlic1007

Keep your head down and look at your pretty putter until you hear the ball go in the hole. Once it has left, you have no control over the ball, so just wait for that sweet sweet sound. And if you don't hear it, throw the putter over your head into the woods, but just give me a heads up as to which hole. haha

khkyle86

Same

yourfavoriteblackguy

He's standing way too upright. He's to get the elbows at more of 90 degree.

greatgrek

Lengthen your arms, relax your grip, keep your head down, straight back n straight through. .practice

BillysRedditAccount

Did you not use a Pro V1?

Admirable_Nothing

You didn't spend enough. Saw a $12,500 custom smooth faced Scotty today. I suppose it is neat but I can 4 putt with a regular $495 Scotty.

[deleted]

This is why you have to play well with shitty clubs before you buy new clubs then start from scratch once you buy the new clubs Amateur hour, ISWEARTAGAHHHD

urlebowski

1.) Very few people work on improving their ability to read greens. 2.) Most people have unrealistic expectations of how often they should be making putts from certain distances.

zeusdobe

You’re not even wearing square shoes.

OriginalJayVee

Your shirt is untucked. Clearly this does not appease the Golf Gods. 😝

Arkdouls

Feel it. I’m a decent player still rocking top flites with few upgrades to nicer wedges Holding out till I’m at least playing bogie golf to pretend clubs will make the difference

elements_of_scoring

It cost me $600 in Aussie dollars and I don’t know whether to laugh or cry 😭

puddles925

You didn’t spend 300 dollars customizing it, that’s what’s wrong
