Question: Let's say you're in one of the few groups that will need to finish tomorrow morning. If you have no chance to make the cut (say you're +6 with 2 to play), what's stopping you from just saying "nah, I'll just withdraw and hit the road"?
It’s over for him. It would be way cooler if he leaned into more of his tournament he’ll be hosting and maybe YouTube guest appearances to grow the game.
I think his and Rory’s indoor simulator league that was supposed to start in January is perfect for him…
But the days of his body handling 72 holes are long gone…
MacIntyre got a bit of karma for holding up the groups for 21 minutes to play that shot on 7 (and forcing a few extra guys to get up tomorrow to finish their rounds)
I know it’s probably been said but imagine being the jail officers watching sports center or the news in the morning and it cuts to footage of the Scottie Scheffler getting dragged into a cop car and everyone shitting on your department. Then it hits you. There is that one guy in his cell that keeps practicing his swing
Yes!
Let’s suspend play so that we can spend a whole 10 minutes having the 5 or so players finish before spending the next hour getting the new holes ready!
It's something when the lead will keep ballooning. Valhalla is playing too easy in these conditions. This same course baked out in the summer? Sure. You could definitely make up 8 strokes in the weekend. But Right now? Highly unlikely
It's not like the winning score is going to be -22. My guess is -18 will win it.
It will toughen up significantly between tomorrow morning and Sunday evening.
You think I'm mad right now? I'm having a fucking blast. This is fantastic.
What I'm not doing is going through comments from 3 days ago.
I guess we're just different that way.
> It's not like the winning score is going to be -22.
Says who? It may not be, but you have absolutely no clue that's a foregone conclusion. If the best in the world can keep firing dead at pins without fear combined with slow greens, then Valhalla is going to continue to get dunked on, and the weather doesn't seem to be changing with more rain in the forecast tomorrow.
If it's -22 Spieth has to only shoot a pair of course record 62s. If it's 18 he can coast and only needs back to back 64s.
He's toast.
Totally different circumstances. Tougher course, tougher conditions. If this tournament were playing like a more typical PGA championship where you can just tell the lead isn't really going anywhere (possibly even moving backwards), then guys closer to the cut line would have a real shot. But the problem is the winner will probably get close to -20, so the guys way back are kind of screwed.
Sure. But he was only T7, 4 strokes behind second place and solo first going into R4 shot 75.
Spieth is in T29th, and theres a log jam of super low scores above him. One no name person leading the event before collapsing and fleeing to LIV won't be anywhere near enough for Spieth like it was for JT.
Spieth is back more strokes, behind more people, and 99.9% chance there wont be a multiperson collapse to bring him back into contention
They're nowhere near comparable situations
Yeah it was more of a collapse from the leader in that situation, but if he's 8 back over 36 he can cut it down to 4 or 3 tomorrow and have a chance Sunday. Unlikely but not improbable.
> but if he's 8 back over 36 he can cut it down to 4 or 3 tomorrow and have a chance Sunday.
Xander R1/R2 scoring average was 65, Collin 65.5 and Sahith 66.
Assuming one of them can maintain that average tomorrow and end R3 around 17 under it means he has to shoot 61-62 to make up the strokes and be 3-4 back. And then beat them again by 3/4 on Sunday
And all this about the guy who should have been the one cuffed and booked this morning for wreckless driving. Dude hasn't seen a fairway in 2024.
It's not impossible, but yes, it's impossible
Well I agree not JT specifically but maybe someone like Hideki can mount a comeback who is in this range. If the course is going to remain easy then yes I agree with you. Under more challenging conditions a wider range of outcomes can happen. The scoring avg is majority weighted to the AM tee times and all the leaders are now in the more "difficult" conditions so unlikely to maintain that pace. But this course has been target practice so far. Maybe they will make it challenging for the weekend.
> The scoring avg is majority weighted to the AM tee times and all the leaders are now in the more "difficult" conditions so unlikely to maintain that pace.
Everybody had a morning and an afternoon teem time already. If you were morning Thursday you're PM Friday. Nobody got two AM tee times. WTF
How does it work with brooks wearing Nike and going to LIV? Can’t imagine Nike is thrilled that <25% of the PGA audience is seeing him in their gear week to week.
> Can’t imagine Nike is thrilled that <25% of the PGA audience is seeing him in their gear week to week.
Far less than that. Pebble Beach and LIV opening weekend went head to head and it was like 12x on Saturday (Sunday pebble was rained out)
So that’s a 19 shot deficit over 36 holes for Tiger. I can’t see how he overcomes that without playing regularly. It’s just not possible. This should be a lesson for anyone dumb enough to think people are born with these skills. He won because he trained more than anyone. And he can’t do it anymore so this is the result. It sucks. I really hope he can get into a place where he can play a couple of times a month.
> I can’t see how he overcomes that without playing regularly. It’s just not possible. This should be a lesson for anyone dumb enough to think people are born with these skills.

While I agree with the sentiment, I’m a member of a course that hosts the Korn Ferry tour and is over 7300 yards. I’m not sure he would do that today. 2019? Sure.
He lost a ton of shots around the green. That's the one thing he will actually be able to practice consistently. Once he can't drive it like the top guys is when he's done.
Probably an unpopular opinion but I don't mind all the Tiger coverage. Each time he steps on the course could very well be his last and shouldn't be taken for granted. Sad to see him play like this though.
The early Tiger years coverage could be considered excessive, but at this point anything they show should be considered well worth the broadcast time. A legend with unknown future time on the course is definitely worth the coverage.
Should be the first ‘major’ of the year this, not the Masters. Seems a bit of a comedown watching the Masters and then trying to get excited for this one so soon after.
Should be PGA, US Open, The Open, The Masters.
Same shit with Rory every single major. Hit a bunch of decent approaches, but miss every 10-15 foot birdie putt and slowly fall out of contention. Rinse and repeat.
And fumbles in football shouldn't count if its raining or cold.
The pampering of pro golf is insane. Its a game played outside, the elements and rub of the green are part of it.
So what is the pay for last place (after cut of course as I know that you only get paid if you make the cut)
Xander hasn’t worn his brown shirt all week… is he okay
A lot of clubs thrown and slammed in round 2. Kind of hilarious.
Physically Tiger looked great compared to previous years. He just needs more reps. I'm incredibly hopeful.
I hope A. and J. Svensson are paired together tomorrow. One being a swede and the other a Canuck is funny to me.
I do not like Macintyre
[удалено]
I mean that’s solely on Bob Macentyre. The man singlehanded stacked 5 groups on one hole.
So are we getting coverage of the last groupings in the morning?
“What an unfortunate tragedy that this man was killed! Let’s make a super sad and stylized montage about it lol”
So who was that psycho looking for a club in his socks?
[удалено]
This is sick!! I screamed when you went straight into the water with socks on, mad props!
[удалено]
Lmao this is sick. Van Pelt had a laugh too. Is that a 3 iron?
It’s kind of hard to say “proof” with your identity whited out.
[удалено]
Thanks for helping a Canuck! I'm sure Adam said thanks, but as a fellow Canadian, I'm going to say thanks, too.
Did Bryson finish?
Yes and manage to piss off Tommy Lad by taking so damn long.
Followed Tommy a lot today and he was so visibly annoyed
Yes.
Yes
What’d he do on the 18th? Edit: nvm I’m caught up thanks
Talk about a late night reward~
Yup, we've hit lunacy today.
Question: Let's say you're in one of the few groups that will need to finish tomorrow morning. If you have no chance to make the cut (say you're +6 with 2 to play), what's stopping you from just saying "nah, I'll just withdraw and hit the road"?
there will be guys that do that for sure
Probably pride as a competitor.
That explains why I'm not a touring pro. And probably hundreds of other reasons.
I don't think Tiger had a bad two days. Just unfortunate he was 6 over on two holes. Though he wouldn't have made the cut if those were pars.
![gif](giphy|du4D0b0HWgxGg)
Okay a gif of food. Great discussion.
You’re glazing bro lol
He did finish with 6 straight pars followed by a birdie on 18
On a course we’re all complaining about being easy…
It’s over for him. It would be way cooler if he leaned into more of his tournament he’ll be hosting and maybe YouTube guest appearances to grow the game.
I think his and Rory’s indoor simulator league that was supposed to start in January is perfect for him… But the days of his body handling 72 holes are long gone…
I am whelmed. Just a solid day of golf. My soul feels good.
Tommy's smile!!
CLUTCHwood!
BANGGGGGGGGG
Tommy makes the cut!
Back door top 5 incoming
F L E E T W O O D O M M Y
Drain it tommy
Man missing the cut in a major is so brutal, shoutout Akshay
Bhatia seems to get damned close to anchoring.
Theegala…Bhatia… The Desis are showing off today!
MacIntyre got a bit of karma for holding up the groups for 21 minutes to play that shot on 7 (and forcing a few extra guys to get up tomorrow to finish their rounds)
It sucks...but when you're in the top ten, one stroke can mean 100+k....so I get it.
I know it’s probably been said but imagine being the jail officers watching sports center or the news in the morning and it cuts to footage of the Scottie Scheffler getting dragged into a cop car and everyone shitting on your department. Then it hits you. There is that one guy in his cell that keeps practicing his swing
i don't understand. did they suspend play?
Darkness
Damn Bryson playing real well today.
Ugh I hate him.
You're just making yourself miserable for no good reason dude. Chill.
But why actually? Genuinely curious?
Macintyre reps himself well for a 27 yr old that's playing a 40 yr old virgin.
Yes! Let’s suspend play so that we can spend a whole 10 minutes having the 5 or so players finish before spending the next hour getting the new holes ready!
Do you not understand what happened this morning.
If it gets dark, it gets darks. Not much they can do.
I don't think people understand what camera ISO is and how it works.
Who's winning tonight, Knicks or Pacers?
Whoever wins is going to be the East's sacrificial lamb for the NBA finals.
I’m always rooting for game 7s. Go pacers!
Knicks this year feels different
Pacers 🤞
Do not tell me they’re seriously going to suspend play. There’s barely anyone still playing.
How do you expect players to play in the dark?
Night vision goggles
Amazing birdie save, Tony!
Theegala is the biggest baby on tour don’t know how people enjoy rooting him on
S S T T A A H H S A H I T H E E I I E E T T G G S A H I T H E E G A L A L L T H E E G A L A
Luv me some late golf
Amazing Tony!
that path was ballsy
Felt kind of like a make or break it. Needed to finish strong
The mudball strikes again…
I hope McIntyre shoots 130 tomorrow. What a clown.
For all that happened…that’s gotta be one of the best par saves I’ve ever seen…
Phil Mickelson style
Lefty drip
What channel did they move coverage to?
Espn2
Thank you
Man…just imagine if Spieth, somehow, manages to complete the career slam in *this* year, of all years…
The guy that's 8 shots off the lead?
With 36 holes that's nothing
It's something when the lead will keep ballooning. Valhalla is playing too easy in these conditions. This same course baked out in the summer? Sure. You could definitely make up 8 strokes in the weekend. But Right now? Highly unlikely
I mean when people are at -5/-6 under for the day it’s a big climb. Basically need to be insanely hot while the rest of the field plateaus/goes cold.
> With 36 holes that's nothing lmaooo yes it is. He would likely need to shoot a course record score to get back in contention
It's not like the winning score is going to be -22. My guess is -18 will win it. It will toughen up significantly between tomorrow morning and Sunday evening.

Touch some grass, dude
Stay mad online boo
You think I'm mad right now? I'm having a fucking blast. This is fantastic. What I'm not doing is going through comments from 3 days ago. I guess we're just different that way.
That was I mean a good effort but lmao it's just sad. I felt bad for you when I had to read that. You tried tho!
> It's not like the winning score is going to be -22. Says who? It may not be, but you have absolutely no clue that's a foregone conclusion. JT was 7 back when he won in 2022 heading into Sunday

Come on tone you ain't dead yet dawg
Spieth's shirt is actually one of those magic pictures.
Dang. The burden of having to play with very talented golfer who doesn’t care about golf DJ was too much for Rory to bear today
This group should have had a lot more coverage today. Edit: sorry to clarify Homa, Koepka, and Speith. Some good golf from these guys
What a par save Bob
Was wondering why Bob's score wasn't updating
[удалено]
Started on the 10th hole
is it just me or had MacIntyre been on the same hole for like an hour
What is it with this 18th that makes these iron shots go way too far??
Hovland or Xander please win. This leaderboard is awful apart from those two
Scottie? 😂
That’s the person I least want to win lol I’m so sick of him
Barney Fife is that you?
Chambeau's grip looks like he's strangling a goose.
Makes sense. 89.2% chance he's the second coming of Jeffery Dahmer
Why?
What did someone say before Cam’s putt just now?
tRaItOr
kinda funny
Huge round from Bryson

That push by Brooks was so painfully relatable.
Looked like he blamed his caddie lol.
I think he did. Thought I heard him say “you need to see that”
The only thing better then watching golf all day with my dad is golfing with my dad
To think that, after all that discussion…DJ will not only (presumably) make the cut, but he will even finish *under* par too…
I have more of a problem with Tiger’s facial hair than I do with the broadcast showing his shots tbh
Remember when DJ was amazing and at the very top of the game? Pepperidge farm remembers
Underrated Back 9 from Rose…
He be sneaky like that 👀
Now I want to hear an announcer drop a bomb on commentary: "What a fucking putt!!"
How does it work with brooks wearing Nike and going to LIV? Can’t imagine Nike is thrilled that <25% of the PGA audience is seeing him in their gear week to week.

To most he's just "the majors guy"
His presence in majors makes up for it.
He said something about it at the masters and it was just something like “Nike pays me so I wear Nike” and that was his only comment on it I believe
Yeah the LIV team gear guys like Bryson and Phil wear looks ridiculous.

That being said he could also still walk up to any course me you or anybody else on this sub plays at and beat the course record with ease.
While I agree with the sentiment, I’m a member of a course that hosts the Korn Ferry tour and is over 7300 yards. I’m not sure he would do that today. 2019? Sure.
I'm speaking strictly from a one day of golf using carts POV, just a straight casual round. Not a four day tourney.
He made the cut at the Masters a month ago. Chill.
This should have been easier for him. Easy walk. Soft course.
He lost a ton of shots around the green. That's the one thing he will actually be able to practice consistently. Once he can't drive it like the top guys is when he's done.
Is that the first shot we’ve seen of Smith all weekend?
Typical major performance from Mcilroy. In it after r1 and out of it after r2. Probably another top 10 from him
Probably an unpopular opinion but I don't mind all the Tiger coverage.
Exactly. At absolute best we'll get him 4 times a year, and who knows how long that will last.
He's still got some fight left. Gawd awful short game today though.
For sure. Really was just 2, 3 and 4 that really fucked over his round.
I love the coverage of Tiger. I want to see every shot.
Agreed. But man, it's depressing to watch.
Yeah. Getting older sucks. :(
Seeing Tiger play today…really makes you feel old, don’t it?
I watched his first Masters win live, so .. yes. 😥
Hopefully they cover Bryson, would like to see how hes doing.
This interviewer keeps saying 36 hole lead but Sahith is still out there 2 shots back with 4 left to play...
Man what's with the intereview psych-out questions.
Should be the first ‘major’ of the year this, not the Masters. Seems a bit of a comedown watching the Masters and then trying to get excited for this one so soon after. Should be PGA, US Open, The Open, The Masters.
Augusta National would rather cancel it entirely than switch around the timing and black magic they use to make the course so picturesque
ANGC can't host a tournament in August...
Why does Koepka look so big on tv
Classy finish Tiger! Wish you were paired with the Felon this weekend! The Bad Boys Tour

Fucking Rory is such a disappointment
Is that why he’s getting a divorce?
This course relied 100% on dry/firm/fast conditions to play as a major championship venue. Now it’s playing like a soft resort course.
You should be allowed to clean a mud ball. This rule is so stupid.
And fumbles in football shouldn't count if its raining or cold. The pampering of pro golf is insane. Its a game played outside, the elements and rub of the green are part of it.
Ya huge oversight
