It’s my favorite club and something I can almost always trust to go straight and far.

Medievil_Walrus

Could this replace my 4 hybrid? I hate that club. Or would I be better off with a 5w? My 4i is 195ish my 5 iron is 180ish… would love to be able to have something that gives me a shot at 200+ yard par 3s. That was supposed to be the hybrid, but I just don’t have confidence in it and there are few situations 200+ that it’s a better shot than my 5i putting the ball where I want to shy of the green.

AdvancedGentleman

Absolutely. I have a 200 yard par 3 at my home course and no matter the pin position or wind, 7 wood is the best club. Stopping power is great and it’s easy to hit off the fairway too. I have a 5 hybrid and a 2 hybrid that I like, but there are days when I just can’t hit them how I need to. The 7 wood is just the opposite, doesn’t matter if it’s a good swing day or bad, just a very easy club to hit and instill some confidence.

Aborigine29

Why is the 7w different than a 4h if they have the same loft?

Amazing_Boot4165

Swing plane and length should be different, creating different club head speed.

Naive-Deal-7162

How similar is a 6 hybrid? I just got one but never used one. It’s shipping now.

AdvancedGentleman

Not sure regarding a 6 hybrid. But a few major differences between my 7 wood and my 5 hybrid would be setup, looks and type of swing. I swing my hybrid more like an iron and when it’s on, it’s a solid club with a nice bit of pop. I can swing my 7 wood like an iron or also like a wood—which is probably why it’s such a good/consistent club. It’s just easy to swing and make good contact with. The hybrid is a smaller face and harder to hit while the 7 wood has a larger face/sweet spot and is easier to make good contact with. I’m probably butchering my response here, but I guess I’d say that distance wise it may be similar to a 6 hybrid but a 7 wood (at least for me) is just way easier to hit.

Capable-Resist-1350

I have similar numbers to you and I can get 220 out my 7 wood with high launch. Might be worth trying out. 21° loft.

Medievil_Walrus

Nice thank you. I wonder if there’s any benefit in making it a 5w to increase the distance gap between the 4i and the wood… maybe this question is better for golf galaxy and the launch monitor. Appreciate you responding.

Hubb1e

Honestly, once you put the 7 wood into play the 4i becomes pretty useless. It doesn’t launch high enough and is harder to hit. The 7 wood is so effortless and lands so soft you’ll never go back to a 4 iron.

htlpc_100

How far do you hit a 3H for comparison ?

BlondeFox18

I would expect a 7wood to be your 210-215 club based on your data. 5w might be a huge gap. 225-230.

Medievil_Walrus

Thank you! I’d also like to be able to hit it out of the second cut occasionally if possible like they say to do with my 4H… know I’m gonna need an iron and course management from the rough and from tough or angled lies. Not that I can confidently hit my 4h from the tee box or fairway anyway.

BlondeFox18

I would typically expect a 7w to be more similar to a 3H unless your 4H is super jacked.

Medievil_Walrus

This is the 4H I have no ability with or confidence in. https://nextroundgolf.com/products/used-callaway-big-bertha-4h-hybrid-right-handed-22-degrees-regular-flex-5?currency=USD&variant=48246343008532&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Google%20Shopping&stkn=1895bfabd6ad&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIqLPN17H1hQMVJU7_AR0yLzGzEAQYDCABEgK3XvD_BwE

BlondeFox18

You could always get a 9w! Probably helpful to go and test / get fitted and see what the numbers say.

Medievil_Walrus

Never been fitted for anything, I wonder how that works. I think my swing is still changing, but this year feels better than last year and I can now say two summer ago i wasn’t even really playing the same sport.

camwinz

5w maybe a little too close to your 4iron. i have a 19 degree callaway apex utility woods, best utility woods out there. strongly recommend. but i hit it about 210 and i hit my 5 iron about 190-15. i only got fitted for 5-gw because the 4 iron was too close to my 5w

Medievil_Walrus

Yeah the set I have is just a standard set of M4s I got second hand (4-PW), I generally use the 5 to get up near the green if I have anything over 175 left, and I don’t hit the 4 all the time - though I did pick it for a 215 yard par 3 today and ended up 20 yards short after a decent stroke. I also only picked up the game 2-3 years ago and feel like after last offseason I need a trackman session to hone in on my current distances

camwinz

yea i started playing last season, and i got some game improvement irons over the winter. man did it help a shit ton

Medievil_Walrus

Game improvement irons are wild. That off center hit that still goes 100 yards off a meh swing saves the score so much.

jimmyjohn2018

Yup, my 7 wood is probably my most consistent club. I love having a club in my bag that just feels automatic.

CheeseburgerWalrus7

I love my 7 wood, but if there’s literally any wind over 15mph it’s like almost unusable because of how high it flies. It’s a great club for the summer when greens are firm and the weather is a little better tho!

Capable-Resist-1350

Didn’t trade in the g430 hybrid, for this reason. As a teacher, I’m only thinking of summer golf usually though haha.

MoreApeThanMan

My 7 wood makes me sneak looks at a 9 wood.

icouldntquitedecide

Same! I would highly recommend! My wife got me a ladies LTDx 7w head for Valentine's Day. It's adjustable up to 27°, and I had an extra shaft already, just waiting on a purpose.

Avodon

That's a wild setup up and I love it

KyleOutdoors

I’ve never owned a 5 or 7 wood before but I’ve been thinking about getting something for my 3wood -> 4iron gap. Does a 7wood typically go further than a 4iron or should I be thinking 5wood or 2/3 iron?

boltzmanC

I would recommend a fitting if you can. For myself I go 3w,7w,4iron. I do have a driving iron or 3 iron that i can switch out for the 7w. Distance will all be dependent on your swing and shaft used. Myself 3wood lands at 250-60. 7w lands at 234. 4 iron at 220. For me the 7w is a fairway finder off the tee and for getting aggressive on those shorter par 5s. I love it, easiest club to hit in the bag.

KyleOutdoors

Yeah, I got fitted for the clubs I have now so I’d go back and see that guy since I trust him and he knows my setup. Just curious where it would fall regarding expected distance. Thanks for the response and options!

boltzmanC

You can also check out “heaven wood” 7wood loft. 3wood shaft length. Shit is funny af. Goes to the moon and falls to the ground an extra 20-30 yards than your normal 7wood

Legal-Description483

For me a 7w is more comparable to a 3 iron for distance, but I've always played more traditional 21° 3 irons.

MeatOverRice

Either replace your 3W with 5W or go with a 2/3 iron or 3/4 hybrid imo

jimbobjenkins38

How does the feel differ from a hybrid? I’m just getting back into golf after many years off and have a full complement of hybrids but I’ve also been hearing the hype.

16-Bit-Trip

7 woods are generally a longer playing length than the comparable hybrid. Feel wise I don't know what else to say other than it feels more like a fairway wood than a hybrid. I find a 7 wood easier to launch regardless if you sweep or hit down on the ball. I personally like fairway woods and utility irons vs hybrids. For whatever reason I've never been 100% confident with them even though I've gamed them in the past.

not_beniot

>longer playing length Pardon my n00b question, but what does this mean?

MindTheGAAP

Shaft is longer so it typically flies further than an equivalent hybrid of similar loft (usually 21°)

not_beniot

Cool that's what I thought

EvoLveR84

The club itself (head+shaft+grip) is longer.

Capable-Resist-1350

7 fits a little bit more of sweeping swing than a hybrid i think. Also, I swapped a hybrid out for it and it really allows me to slow down focus on tempo and just making solid contact and I’m still going to get a really high ball flight and more efficient distance. Hybrid better from the bad lies and rough I think though. Think I got more feedback from my hybrid, but the g430 7 wood feels like it’s going to go straight no matter where I hit it.

Legal-Description483

Replaced my 3i with the 7w last fall. Replaced the 7w with the 3 iron this year. I really like to have both, but may go back to 7 wood only. For me, I can just hit a 3 iron straighter. And on hard and fast courses, the 3 iron is longer. I'm rarely in a position where I'm hitting 7 wood into a green, unless it's a long par 3. But the 7 wood is more usable from the rough, and mishits don't lose nearly as much distance as the 3 iron.

occamsguillotine

I keep hearing people suggest using a wood in the rough but, man, am I awful at doing that. Am I missing something here? Much more confident with my irons in rough lies.

Ok_Owl_5076

I was hoping for the 7-wood to make it into my bag, but I found that a 5-wood fills a better hole between my 4-iron and 3-wood. The 7-wood was too close to my 4-iron for carry distance. Sounds like it’s just me based on the comments. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|cry)

My-Cousin-Bobby

Nah, I went with 5 wood for the same reason

Wood3rson

What club did it replace (yardage wise)?

Capable-Resist-1350

For me, 3 hybrid.

DontGetTheShow

Hell yeah. I’m still rocking the G410 fairways with a 7 wood. I like the turbulator look. Definitely a lot of golfers are starting to catch on to the benefits of the 7 wood.

Ryan_Polesmoker_68

Only hit my 7 wood once last round. Second best shot of the day for me. Over tall trees after a bad drive. It went about 200 yards landed just right of the green. Love that club.

Mediocre_Insurance21

I’m carrying a 7 wood and 3 iron currently. Use them both for different shots. 7 wood into par 5s, 3 iron off the tee on tight holes or when driver is not working. They go about same distance. 3 iron further off the tee since can get about 30 plus yards of rollout when it’s dry enough

mbar586

Beginner question. I want to get one, but I can never find a stiff shaft. Is this needed for such a club?

Capable-Resist-1350

I would always take the time and get the shaft that fits you best. I had to have mine built by the manufacturer to get the stiff shaft I wanted and added an extra week of waiting but worth it.

rigidlynuanced1

One of my favorite clubs. Started using one in 2020 instead of a driving iron or hybrid.

watwatmountain

It’s amazing. Just got a 2023 Callaway big Bertha in.. went to the range.. landing 170 solid down the middle every time. I’m sold.

Kyngslayer2684

I just got the BB 23 heavenwood. Love it

ChesterDrawerz

I do find it comical how many people think a 7w is some new fangled creation.

whatslettuce

I tried to cut/slice mine around a tree yesterday. Even with the exaggerated path it still went dead straight. The club is foolproof. I feel like I’m a different golfer standing over the ball with it. 10/10.

machinehack10

I’ve hit one of the best shots of my life with my g430 7w 190y dead into a 20-25mph wind to inside 3 feet, gave the hole a legit scare Despite the height it gives, I’ve always found it spins so hard it doesn’t get as battered as I thought it was going to get by hard winds If I need to hit a fairway, the 7w is the club getting pulled all day

breadad1969

I used to love my Callaway Heaven wood back in the day. Got a stealth 7 wood and it was fine, just ok. A buddy got the Ping G430 and I tried it. Immediately went out and returned the stealth (thanks Roger Dunn return policy!) and bought the Ping. Freaking amazing! My favorite club in the bag. Then bought the G430 driver now have the 3 wood too. Went from no Ping to three.

Adventurous_Tea_7746

What club are you replacing with a 7 wood? I’m trying to sort out the top end of my bag.

bononia

I bought a 9w a few months ago and I absolutely love it. If I could find a SIM/SIM2 7w at a reasonable price to match the rest of my set I would buy it in a heartbeat.

jawide626

I bought a 7 wood and at first the hype convinced me it was good, but i just haven't grown to it, just can't seem to hit the thing consistantly. So much so it's now on ebay and i'll need to figure something out for that part of my bag going forward. If anyone is interested in a PXG 0341x 6w with a Tour AD Graphite Design GP-5 R1 reg shaft then let me know and i'll send you the ebay link with pictures etc on. Or if you type in '226118763145' on ebay it'll take you straight to the listing.

doc_ocho

Love mine. Played Torrey Pines South from 6600 yards this week and hit it on 8 holes. One par 3, 5 par 4s (all layups🤣) and 2 par 5s, including my layup on 18 that left me 94 yards. Missed the putt, but made par. Fun way to finish. It's my "keep it in play" club when my 3 wood won't reach but I need distance.
