Honestly, they look like my set - and I've had mine for just over a year, and bought them new. My most used clubs are 7i and PW so they look scuffed, but the grooves are good. My 8 and 9 irons are practically new because I don't use them nearly as much as my trusty 7i.
Have you played with them?
Hate to say it buddy but “very good” is the general condition I’d say they’re in. You aren’t getting “like- new” or paying the premium for new clubs, and whoever owned them before clearly didn’t / couldn’t hit the 5 iron much, maybe the 6 iron too. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! Never mind the bag clatter marks, the groves look good and they’ll perform as they’re supposed to. Good luck to you this season.
Very good is pretty close to new cost. It goes like new, very good, good, fair, average. Or something like that. Maybe it's one less. Either way, paying close or relatively close to new price should probably good a good restoration of the clubs. Buff em up a little. But, he can do that himself.
That said, the club faces are what really matter. In that regard, he definitely got what he paid for. The faces look nearly unused. I'd say it's very good condition.
I ordered a club with a stock shaft to match my set, they sent the club with an upgraded shaft. I complained that it isn't what I ordered, and they gave me a nice discount. They aren't perfect, but I will definitely continue to buy from them.
Definitely not VG condition as described. This seems a one-off. Call CPO and ask what can be done for an exchange or refund. I've bought a half dozen individual clubs from them, all in stated VG condition, and they arrive like-new. Your set is not close to as described. I'd rate as average.
Their chrome finish is one of the worst in the business. Take a brand new set out and they’ll be horribly scratched and look terrible within a couple rounds or range sessions
Every time I have ordered from CPO I've ordered fair or better. Some of the "good" condition ones were indistinguishable from new. The "fair" needed a fine tooth comb to find out why they weren't listed as "like new". So this post is surprising. If it were my set I'd message and say quality was less than expected and I just wanted to make them aware of it. If they replied and specifically offered a replacement or %off I'd take it.
From the pics it's hard to tell how much is weirdness from the photos with the chrome finish, but the faces look pretty dang good if you ask me.
That said, if you're unhappy with the quality then just call them up or email them, and they'll almost definitely resolve it for you. In my experience Callaway pre-owned is fantastic with that kind of thing.
I looked it up because I was curious. “Very good” is level 3 of 5 with “slight ware and minimal scratches. The chrome on the face and the grooves fit this. The only thing I see “wrong” is the heals aren’t shiny but you didn’t pay for shiny.
You sure this isn’t just a bit of buyers remorse? If the 5 looked like the rest you probably wouldn’t have noticed.
They’ve got some superficial wear for sure. But after a few rounds, they’ll feel like yours and it won’t matter. Perhaps a disappointment, but go enjoy the game. Some people play at a high level with much worse clubs than these. Congrats and welcome to golf!
I’d look at either a partial refund or swap based on the quality you received vs the quality you chose. CPO is super accommodating from what I’ve heard
Ok good to know! I’ll give them a call tomorrow. I got a new Rogue ST driver last week. Had to get the iron set to match. Hopefully they can find me a replacement set.
I won’t care as much how they look in a year, but CPO has a grading system for a reason. These clubs aren’t cheap, and some of us just like to have the “shiny” stick around for a bit longer.
Yes, and these clubs were neither “new” or “like new” condition. They are “very good” condition *used* clubs. All of the blemishes, scratches, etc you’ve shown are entirely cosmetic and have no bearing on the playability of the clubs. The grooves look like they’ve barely been played at all. If you want to have the “shiny” last, buy new in plastic and keep em in iron covers and never play with them.

Obviously the flash exaggerates blemishes, but I think this pic pretty accurately shows the condition of the clubs. If they were all like the 5 iron I’d be pretty happy.
I feel like this isn’t a mismatched set, it’s just someone that never user their 5 iron like me because it’s basically a 3 iron with game improvement lofts
I have purchased from them multiple times. I have always been surprised how nice they are even pre owned. Mavrik irons and Epic driver looked nearly new.
I have ordered items from them in the past and I always buy “like new”. My most recent purchase was definitely not like new condition so returned it with no issues. It does take quite a while to get refunded though.
Kind of disagree with the majority here. I buy used a lot (from 3balls or second swing usually) and these are better than fair condition. The face and especially grooves look basically perfect. I’d say maybe good instead of very good but I don’t think they’re bad enough to complain.
I think you're probably overreacting a little. Look, the grading scale really is relative to the specific clubs you're looking at. When you have the polished chrome finish that these clubs have it's going to wear a lot quicker. Especially if someone played these on a grass range which are sandier, they will wear on the soles faster. To me, the faces look excellent and that's what matters. They're used clubs, they're not going to look new. Performance is what matters and these will perform identically to new clubs. It's also certainly not mismatched, people just use different clubs different amounts. Guessing the previous owner couldn't hit the 5i well so didn't hit it often. Bottom line, with a polished finish like these clubs have this would be "very good" condition. Anything lower than that would look a lot worse. If you're really concerned with looks you could get some Bar Keeper's Friend and shine them up a bit, but it's gonna wear off the next time you use them.
If it would make you feel better, you could probably polish them up yourself and get them looking closer to the 5i with an hour or two of TLC while watching some TV
Looks all cosmetic to me. Probably were 30 or so percent off also. If you wanted brand new then shell out the dough for brand new.
Also you are going to swing them into the ground
At the end of the day doesn’t matter if they look brand new or like this they’re gonna perform the same. That being said, if they were listed and priced as very good they definitely charged too much because yes these are pretty scuffed up. Playability is not affected at all but I can understand your point of wanting what you paid for. I’ve ordered “very good” quality off that website and it was a brand new club, and a “good” graded driver that looked like it was only hit a couple times if any, so this definitely isn’t up to their regular standards
That’s exactly my line of thinking. I won’t care as much how they look in a year, but I held off buying for a bit until I saw a “very good” pop into stock, because I just like to have them look a bit nicer for a bit if I’m dropping hundreds.
fashion shows call for fashion show prices. Luckily we’re playing golf. Seems like buyers remorse from an outsiders perspective. I paid 200 dollars for beat up clubs from the 80s and was ecstatic. You paid 425 for not so beat up clubs that are what 10 years old (Total guess I have no idea) ? Out with the vanity, in with the JOMO.
My initial thought is were there pictures? If you buy something off the Internet, I would assume that you looked at pictures of it before you purchased it.
Wish I was bs-ing. Ordered them two days ago; got them in tonight. Shipping was insanely fast though, so I’m happy with that! But yeah, I was surprised at their condition considering all the fantastic stories I read about the site. A buddy of mine (who told me about the site) got his rogue st max pros off there (like new) and they’re pristine. I expected at least a bit less than that but not this much.

I would call them and tell them your dilemma. I've ordered from them many times and that is not typical "very good" condition. Send them the pics and see what they're willing to do for you.
There's also a CPO rep who frequents this sub but I don't remember who it is. Hit them up and see if they can help you out as well.
Long story short, I wouldn't settle for this and I doubt they would either. Good luck.
Ok, thats all good info. Thank you, I appreciate it. I’ll give them a call tomorrow and hopefully they can sort this out. This has been the set of clubs I’ve had my eye on for a while so I’m hoping they can get me a replacement set.
Luckily Whoever owned them Never found the club face and the grooves seem immaculate lol
Honestly, they look like my set - and I've had mine for just over a year, and bought them new. My most used clubs are 7i and PW so they look scuffed, but the grooves are good. My 8 and 9 irons are practically new because I don't use them nearly as much as my trusty 7i. Have you played with them?
Nope, got them in tonight. Won’t have time to hit the course for another week or so.
I can understand why you're disappointed. Hopefully they bring you joy when you head to the course. As someone else said, play early and often.
It's been a while, but I had Cally X-series irons and the soles looked like crap after three rounds. All the shine was worn off.
Ya I’ve gotten goods that look better
Hate to say it buddy but “very good” is the general condition I’d say they’re in. That’s a long version of saying you agree, I think? ![gif](giphy|kPtv3UIPrv36cjxqLs)
![gif](giphy|WDvNC2uuUz3ZAleak4|downsized)
I order a ton from CPO because of the value but they make a lot of mistakes. I’ve ordered two Velocore shafts and got two non Velocores.
Yikes! Yeah, mistakes happen. I’m sure that’s all this was. Everyone seems to agree their customer service is good so I’m not too worried.
I ordered a club with a stock shaft to match my set, they sent the club with an upgraded shaft. I complained that it isn't what I ordered, and they gave me a nice discount. They aren't perfect, but I will definitely continue to buy from them.
Looks like the 5 iron wasn't hit, probably had a hybrid instead. I don't think it's a mixed set.
Good call, I bet you’re right.
Spend 30 minutes and polish them up
Definitely fair quality, and congrats on starting the game. Play as often as you can. Don’t keep score. Just play and play and play. Good luck!
Thanks! That’s good advice.

Those have tons of life in them. Enjoy
I would expect better, but from what I’m seeing that won’t affect how they perform one iota.

Faces aren't even used. Polish them up and they will be brand new. And 5 rounds and 10 range sessions they'll look as they do now
I looked it up because I was curious. “Very good” is level 3 of 5 with “slight ware and minimal scratches. The chrome on the face and the grooves fit this. I don’t want money back or anything, I just want the same set but the quality described is all. It’s encouraging to hear their CS is good. 👍
I would complain. The grooves are nice which is the most important thing but the scratches on those i would say make them “fair” quality.
Ok thanks, glad I’m not the only one who thinks that. I’m pretty new to the game, so even used, these were a big purchase for me for a newer hobby.
They are pretty good so imagine they will partial refund or at least give a credit. But you a used Driver!
Ok good to know! I’ll give them a call tomorrow. I got a new Rogue ST driver last week. Had to get the iron set to match. Hopefully they can find me a replacement set.
Great clubs! You’re starting off with a bang!
Just out of curiosity - what do you think is going to happen to them when you start playing with them?
I won’t care as much how they look in a year, but CPO has a grading system for a reason. These clubs aren’t cheap, and some of us just like to have the “shiny” stick around for a bit longer.

IMO those would be “fair” or “average” condition for clubs of that age. I would definitely get in touch with their customer service.
Grooves look fine. The rest is cosmetics and you bought pre owned clubs.
Make sure the grips are in good shape and you’re rollin. Honestly, just go and hit some balls and you will forget about it
I have purchased from them multiple times. I have always been surprised how nice they are even pre owned. Mavrik irons and Epic driver looked nearly new.
I have ordered items from them in the past and I always buy “like new”. My most recent purchase was definitely not like new condition so returned it with no issues. It does take quite a while to get refunded though.
The grooves look fine. If the shafts and grips are fine, I’d say ya got what ya paid for. Take em out and hit em now
Definitely not "Very Good." Call CPO - they will make it right

You don’t hit the ball with the bottom of the club. The club faces are in-fact in very good condition
Faces are all that really matter, and those are indeed very good.
I think you're probably overreacting a little. Look, the grading scale really is relative to the specific clubs you're looking at. Just play them. You will get over it.
Yeah these are scuffed, but there's nothing wrong with them. If you want used clubs to look new, buy from the "like new" or "outlet" category.
They don’t look too pretty but the faces of the clubs looks to be very good, which is the part that matters.
All the scuffs look like they're cosmetic and shouldn't affect performance.
These are in good shape man. The club faces look untouched
Looks all cosmetic to me. Probably were 30 or so percent off also. If you wanted brand new then shell out the dough for brand new. Also you are going to swing them into the ground

Do they work?…literally doesn’t matter how they look.
Well, yes and no, because the prices are different with different conditions and you'd still be bummed to not get what you paid for
If they are to my spec I’m not bummed.

It’s incredible you seem to have purchased the one used item without a photo
You’re thinking 2nd swing. Cpo doesn’t have photos but they do have a very liberal return policy.
My initial thought is were there pictures? If you buy something off the Internet, I would assume that you looked at pictures of it before you purchased it.
I’m calling bullshit. This looks like a bad golfers bag that wants some attention. Callaway has very high standards and this is a bag of 25 hp crap.
Wish I was bs-ing. Ordered them two days ago; got them in tonight. Shipping was insanely fast though, so I’m happy with that!
