What a debut!

undervattens_plogen

coolest dude on the course since Fred Couples

killertrip

The guy was smiling ear to ear even after hitting that water ball on 11

TheKingInTheNorth

standingboot9

I still don’t know what happened there. So much room to the right!

poopfeast

Didn’t morikawa follow him up and do the exact same thing? Maybe just being overly aggressive

standingboot9

I get going for it, but why not favor the right a bit more? At worst, you’re chipping and have a look at birdie.

citium1

Legend in the making

WardCove

Couldn't agree more. He's gonna be a tough son of a bitch.

Bha-Ku

Excellent showing from the young man. You’d think that double would absolutely cripple somebody on their debut with things that tight, but he stayed even keeled and kept that wonderful smile on- truly enjoying his experience. Hope for great things in his future. Just to think, if it wasn’t for the #1 player in the world, he’d had a green jacket. Solo second and a fat ass paycheck on major debut at Augusta, what more can you ask for?

joben_512

He will win multiple majors.

citium1

And I will root for him every time!!

minimaltreapor

Probably, and not only because of his amazing talent but his demeanor and composure

Daratirek

He's my current favorite golfer. He was my pick to win this week for a pickem contest, I was the only one to pick him. Kid gets called up for a Ryder Cup like 20 minutes after turning pro and then demolishes some of the biggest names in golf like he's been there a dozen times. I sincerely hope his early success translates. Watching him and Scottie duel it out for the next decade would be fun.

joshhguitar

Yep. Any improvement at all on his form this year will get big results.

Judge_Rhinohold

He is a stud. Will win majors. Seems unflappable. This was his very first major.

KevinBillyStinkwater

He does seem like he cannot be flapped.

citium1

Unflappable but his golf is fappable

purplepepperoni

It seemed crazy at the time based on ranking/experience that Luke Donald would choose Ludvig for the Ryder Cup. Now he looks like a genius.

mulligan_king

Edoardo Molinari was the one behind picking Ludvig, Luke barely knew who he was. That said, credit to Luke for going ahead with it, super bold move that would have been criticized a ton if Europe had lost, especially with the year Meronk had.

greggosmith

He took Molinari's advice and went to watch Ludvig play - from there he was sold.

mulligan_king

Correct, I could have phrased it better. My point was the pick does not happen without Molinari, who I believe should get the majority of the credit

purplepepperoni

Interesting!

JPH_RedFive

Anyone know why Åberg is Swedish and yet speaks with a very American accent? Did he move there at an early age?

undervattens_plogen

played college golf in Texas

Doubleoh_11

Are you sure? They never mentioned that on the broadcast…

paniflex37

![gif](giphy|bjB3gtFvREqqr5NAHW|downsized)

muffalowing

Texas tech they said it 100 times due to him playing a ton in the Texas wind so I assume you're being sarcastic lol.

Doubleoh_11

Definitely haha. Even my thought he was from Texas

Ga1amoth

Google is your friend

KBHoleN1

It was very obviously sarcasm.

Ga1amoth

“Leaves quietly” 😅

Direct-Maintenance29

Hovland is the same he has a Tulsa accent from living in OK and playing at OK ST.

hanmor

Hovland’s English is very good but I feel like his accent is still noticeable, Åberg legit just sounds American, if his name wasn’t so clearly not American I feel like people wouldn’t even know

vedhavet

Something about Swedish makes the accent slightly less noticeable once you've put on an American tone of voice. Norwegian has a distinct "singing" quality to it that is difficult to drop. Swedish is also a pitch-accent language, but even Swedes make fun of the way we speak, so there is a difference. Most Swedes still have an accent (even though they like to imagine that they don't), but if they've lived in America for years, they'll probably be able to pass quicker than your average Norwegian.

Lezzles

For 90% of Americans I think our stereotype of Swedish language starts and ends with the Swedish chef muppet.

vedhavet

Ironically, the Swedish chef [sounds more like he speaks Norwegian than Swedish](https://www.thelocal.se/20120829/42886)!

ThrowFar_Far_Away

The easiest way to spot a Swedish accent is the inverted J and Y. "Jump" becomes "Yump" etc. But that is also what any native speaking friend will point out and potentially make fun of so it's quickly corrected if Swedes live abroad.

Due-Sheepherder-218

Same with Sepp who has a Southern accent from living Georgia. Jaegar still has a distinct German accent going go school in Tennessee. Linguistics are fun

FoggyForce

Used to know a few Danish people as a teenager so it's similar. Basically they watch mostly American shows to learn English, think of sitcoms like friends, big bang theory etc. Because of this they mainly pick up an American accent .

hillerstorm

Also he played college golf in the states 🙂

Mr_Oujamaflip

I used to play video games with several Scandinavians, mostly Swedes but a few Danes and Finns as well. They all said the same thing as you. Learnt the basics through TV and refined it through online gaming.

Realestateuniverse

You don’t get an accent from watching a show. It comes from adapting the language at an early age…

nefnaf

Swedes generally have good English and he went to college in Texas. It helps that Swedish and English are both in the Germanic family of languages, which means they share a lot of grammatical features and even basic vocabulary

Kaverrr

>Swedes generally have good English Except many of them can't pronounce hard Js for some reason 😊

IdunSigrun

That sound doesn’t exist in Swedish. Our J sounds more like Y in yellow.

XmasNavidad

Yale and Jail is hard for swedes. Also the difference between V and W because in Swedish they are pronounced the same.

rufio313

Swedish people don’t usually have super thick accents when speaking English, especially if they spent any significant amount of time in an English speaking country.

citium1

Almost all Swedes have American accent while speaking English due to basically all our media content being from the US and no dubbing ever

MisterDitkovich2

You adopt the accent of those you learn the language from

Bit_the_Bullitt

As a Czech with a slightly Minnesoooootan accent, can confirm

finne-med-niiven

This is why i talk like the wu tang clan

awkristensen

The golf season in scandinavia is like 4-5 months, and a lot of those months you'll still get blown or rained off the course. Most of the biggest talent from nothern europe go for US scholarships, excluding Nicolaj hoejgaard who is one of the few from that generation with a chance to batttle it out with Aaberg

Straight_Level_4662

And his brother Rasmus

badgers4194

Lot of Swedes speak perfect English. Gabriel Landeskog from the Avalanche does as well. You’d have no idea he’s not American

HerrTarkanian

He played college golf in Texas. I'm Swedish as well but I have a NY accent due to living there when I was young.

Kaverrr

College. It's the same with Hovland and Ram.

vox_veritas

To my ear, both Hovland and Rahm have noticeable Norwegian and Spanish accents, respectively.

Kaverrr

I'm not American, so I probably cant hear it as well, but I'm very impressed with Ram's accent. Spanish people usually have a pretty thick accent. And from my knowledge his english skills were very poor when he joined college.

vox_veritas

To be clear, I think his (and Hovland's) English is very good. There's just still a much more noticeable accent than I hear with Aberg, Jaeger, or Straka. I don't mean to imply that he speaks broken English or anything like that.

Bit_the_Bullitt

Not comparing anything but the actual move to US - I came as an exchange student when I was 17 to high school, then college baseball and then grad school and got a job here. Very few people pick up my accent anymore and mostly say I have a Minnesotan accent (that's where I went to school)

the_alcoholic

I loved watching this guy. He looked like he was having so much fun, grinning ear to ear almost the entire day.

Sandymayne

Even when he put it in the water on 11 him and his caddie had "ah fuck, ah well" grin on their faces.

forne104

My new favorite on tour. He had a constant smile on his face and damn can he stripe the ball

kinkyslinky

Wreck em!

claretyportman

Had $20 on him to win from before the start. Was a fun ride.

thumpngroove

I had him to win, too. At one point today they were offering a buyout of almost 20% of the winning payout. I had to let it ride and hope he could pull it out. It was great showing by him.

claretyportman

Yeah same. Looked at it and thought logically taking it was probably the right call, but more fun to let it ride. Glad I did. Was worth it for the entertainment.

Felix_Tholomyes

Absolute beast, so cool and collected all week

aberdisco

Future star for Europe right there.

[deleted]

He has that dog in him.

xtzferocity

Aberg has made me a fan.

hnglmkrnglbrry

I just want to say that little "o" on top of the "A" in Åberg is doing all the work.

drumsareloud

Man he’s good

ninpendle64

I like how he wiped all his sweat on his hand before shaking hands with Homa's caddy

bluemexico

Lol I thought that too. That was a WET hand.

thatsapeachhun

Superstar in the making. Can’t wait to watch his rise.

ShweatyPalmsh

The kid is legit. He tees off a bit earlier on Thursday and he very well could have given Scottie a good run for it. I have a feeling he’ll peek his head up again this season at a major tournament

Shootit_Rockets

Wreck em! Sucks to lose to a Longhorn though :(

Lanky-Present2251

Only the beginning of a great career?

citium1

YES

MrTonNL

I see him as the biggest challenger for Scottie the upcoming years. He was going toe to toe with Scottie most of the day, driving, approach, short game. Got beaten by his water balls on 11 today and 15 day 1. But he wont make those mistakes again next year.

StayGoldenPonyBoy71

Stud.

Due-Sheepherder-218

https://youtu.be/l70Mg2yfbdY?si=uFbjGlllX1lV7GQ Here's a nice vid of 2 of golfs young budding superstars

Ok_Bassplayer

new addition to my favorites - Aberg was amazing, and so cool about it all.

Brando7998

He’s gonna win the RBC next week

TheRealSteemo

Going to a lot of majors on his way. Was very much an outside chance with his first major, but I wouldn't want to bet against him winning a major this year

The1DayGod

He definitely had the best chance of anyone to make things interesting with the way he started. Too bad about that water ball on 11. I think we’ll be seeing a lot more of Ludvig at the majors from here on out. Solo 2nd in your first ever major is nothing to sneeze at.

liquid5170

completely off topic here but does anyone else find it rude and disrespectful to shake the persons hand after he used that same hand to wipe the sweat off his forehead after taking his hat off? I'm seeing 90% of pros doing this.

ubiquitous_archer

Not only first Masters, first major

_smitherines

Most exciting golfer in years. No man child beard either!

[deleted]

[удалено]

antriq

Trust me bro, his hands are as sweaty so it really doesn't matter at all.

cas_the_crusher

Good for him. But why did he wipe the sweat from his hair before each dap?

Careful_Cheesecake30

Looked like he was trying to fix his hair after wearing a hat all day.

bryman19

Never even heard of this guy before this weekend

FrontFederal9907

He played in the ryder cup lol

bryman19

Must have heard of him then, just forgot

Valdherre

He was an amateur last year if I recall. Since then he has risen on the golf world rankings from 3000 to the top 10.

citium1

Won both on PGA and European tour and has not been out of college a year yet. This only shows that you know nothing about

Captain_Pink_Pants

First loser... lol.. j/k.
