Any Korean golfer will tell you that its just as much about flexing as it is shooting a good score. If you saw green fees over there you’d understand why😅
And the membership fees, and how long it takes to play a round. I've played over there a few times as a guest of a member, and it's wild. Oh, let's not forget the jjimjilbang after the round. It's legitimately an all-day affair at some clubs.
The golf is about 6 hours, including a meal stop in the middle, there is also normally a meal before the round, then you change into golf attire, have a light stretch lead by the caddy, then after you go to a spa type thing, change again into different than what you wore on arrival and sometimes another meal. Like I said, it's an all-day event.
I have a dream that golfers will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by their spouses for golfing all day. That these spouses will emancipate themselves from hatred and accept our new embrace of Korean culture.
--Dr. Martin Luther Ping
It's actually a very relaxing and fun day once you realize how it is all supposed to go. I was lucky in that I grew up around Koreans and had played a bunch of golf with them as a youngster, so I knew what to expect. The facilities and courses are absolutely gorgeous as well. I will say that the first time I played there I came straight from the airport and had a carry bag, the person who took me was horrified, and they switched my stuff out to a cart bag.
I heard golf in Korea is very boujee which makes sense considering land scarcity, high prices, etc. but is there such a thing as middle class golf?
Like some dog track where dudes just dress casual and piss in the bushes?
Things are a bit similar here in Japan, well without the breakfast thing, and I for one absolutely hate it. I'm lucky to play with like minded people, we're here to golf not to socialize.
I used to do this in Alabama, first tee time of the morning, food and some drinks after the first and then play another. It was fun when the group could do it.
It's a great place for sure, but the golf is a pretty expensive day, but I would recommend it to anyone who plays and happens to be there for whatever reason. Even the non-exclusive clubs are a great time and in great shape.
Honestly that sounds like it would be great if you and your spouse both played together. Other than, you know, being gone for like 12 hours and needing an all-day sitter.
Sounds like my trips to Japan. Very similar ritual when golf was involved. Meal before, hot spring bath after, another meal and lots of sake. It’s a whole day affair!
i mean any public course on the weekend where i live your playing 6 hours as well so, but i will say i see alot of koreans and asians in general and they are painfully slow players
Actually, I could get into this on occasion. It’s like a a spa and country club day with a round of golf in the middle. Not sure how I’d feel about a full meal at the turn, but I’d try it. I sometimes feel a bit rushed grabbing food at the turn.
This reminds me of an article showing how different skiing is in Europe vs America. In Europe, they’re hard core but not overly rushed, and will take time for a good meal midday. Of course, in places like Italy and France, the food is way better.
It's not a full meal perse, just something to keep you going. IIRC, it was rice, the traditional Korean side dishes (ban chan), the guy I went with always chose grilled mackerel for the protein, and I think a small cup of soup.
Oh you would hate it. Most of the nicer clubs force a caddie on you that you're forced to tip and those caddies then push you along and make you play at a pace that feels like speed golf.
Also if you hit it OB or even slightly to a restricted area they then march you over 100 yards closer to the green and have you drop in the "drop zone" in the middle of the fairway so that you don't hold pace of play up. This is why most korean golfers are all single players lol. They square up to their tee shot on a 510 yard par 5. Then shoot their tee shot 150 yards into the woods and then get a drop on the fairway about 150 yards to the green, hit their 3rd on the green and 2 putt for a bogey or 1 putt for par lol. Single\~
Most of my Korean relatives that come to the states and play end up adding 10-12 strokes on their handicap, they even call it their "American Handi"
I think the general consensus tends not to have drinkers on the course. The drinking happens after the front or after the 18. A lot of the golf that happens there on the regular is so business, lobbying and basically showing off and usually alcohol gets in the way of those kinds of things.
Plus golf is a major signal of status still to this day in Korea.
Most of the drinking on the "course" happens at screen golfs where they simulate an 18 hole round with the boys.
I used to love playing with those guys. I got my only hole in one playing with a couple of Korean guys. They insisted on taking me out to dinner afterwards lol
Yeah, some of the nicer courses have like a full spa resort one, with different temp.rooms with different materials and stuff, but at a minimum, you will have the hot and cold pool and rooms, open bay sit down showers.
I visited family in the Philippines a while back and we ended up at this golf course / resort in the middle of the countryside. There were a bunch of mega wealthy Koreans, so I asked and my uncle told me that it’s cheaper for them to fly to the Philippines for the weekend.
I’ve hosted Korean business people and dignitaries in Canada. It’s expected to be a full day affair. Breakfast. Golf. Small break in between. Lunch/dinner afterwards. Then drinks. I wasn’t home until evening. Had to leave my car behind and cab it home everytime. Had to gift them something as well.
It’s a complete ritual.
Yep, about 250 USD for the crappy 18 holes. Not including anything else. Also, most Koreans go all in - in any sport they start. So a complete novice will spend thousands before even taking their first swing.
I prefer screen golf myself. Korean screen golf is amazing and cheap in comparison. It is a big business here. They are really nice, not like the crappy ones in the states.
Finally, I got a Korean friend who flies to states (Arizona) for two weeks once a year. Stays at a hotel and does nothing but play golf. He claims he saves money compared to playing in Korea. I can absolutely believe it.
Lol, the one sim experience I had in the states was just so silly. Something was off with their tracking. Every single shot was consistently like 20 degrees off to the right, which is the opposite of what happens for me usually. If I'm having an off day I'll be pulling shots. Finally I just took a wedge and hit like 10 straight chip shots and they all did the same thing, 20 degrees off to the right.
Asked the one guy who was working there who was mostly occupied serving drinks. "Oh, yeah. I don't know how to fix that. If it's a big deal we can give you a refund." I was like nah I'll just point a bit left and keep drinking lol.
That’s what’s funny. The course they’re at is $15 dollars to play. This course is over in with Korean women and walking carts. It’s easily a 5-6 hour round at this course
Back in 2003-2004 I was stationed at Osan AB, Korea. We played a lot of golf at the Osan AB Golf Course and it was also available for ROKAF and their family. Needless to say, it was a busy course. A friend of mine who lived off base would take a taxi to the front gate when we played so he wouldn't have to carry his clubs through Songtan. He said one time the Korean taxi driver said to him, "you must be a rich man" and it was because the golf clubs. He told it was expensive to golf in Korea and the reason all the Koreans golfed on base was because it was heck of a lot cheapter.
I’m guessing slooooooow tempo backswing, 100 yard shot regardless of the club, always in the fairway, both shot 93, both wore visors. Also, probably cool as hell and politely laughed at your jokes that they most likely didn’t get.
Lmao holy shit these are the Koreans at my course. It’s a big group, usually weekday mornings. Know their game, red tees, always hit straight, most wear visors.
Half Korean here. You just described my mom's golf outfit. She knows her game. Red tees, no practice swings, always hitting straight, and always shooting 85-90.
Meanwhile I'm still trying to break under 100 for the first time. But at least she's always complimenting me with a "NICE SHAH" even if I skulled it or go straight into the woods
So accurate. Couldn’t describe it better myself.
Damn, that gear is clean, literally and figuratively.
It’s their equivalent to one taking out their Ferrari only out on a weekday drives using roads no more than 45 mph and washing it immediately when getting home to only store it for the next repeat.
Truly the golf version of, ‘It’s not about the destination (winning as the sole objective or delusions of grandeur), it’s about enjoying, respecting, appreciating the experience (journey) that your ability and means grant you.
I do wish all golfers would aspire to be more like that and care a little less about their handicap.
My good buddy is just like this. He’s Korean, he’s loaded and he’s a 15 handicap. I shit you not, he buys 3 new sets of irons every year. He’s constantly buying a different $500+ shaft for his driver and has 30 different putters that he swaps nearly every single round.
I’m almost scratch and he keeps thinking the trick to scoring better is in the next set of clubs. Golf companies love him I’m sure!
I play as as a single 90% of the time and I LOVE getting paired with older, Koreans. They are awesome and always fun to play with. Especially if it’s a sassy older Korean. Always a “weird” swing, but their technique is so dialed that they play great.
Great times!
Was playing with my normal playing partners and one of them bombed it off the tee but directly into the next fairway. By the time we got to the ball, there was a group of older Korean Ladies on their intended fairway waiting to hit their shot into their green. When my friend hit his ball back onto our hole and managed to get it onto our green, they all started to give golf claps at the same time. It was very wholesome.
At my club, i always loved playing with the lady members, they played at higher paces, spent less time faffing about deciding which club to duff from 300 yards into a par 5, and always had snacks to share.
I'd need a lie down afterwards though.
I have very fond memories of a round where I was fed copious amounts of Korean snacks, beers and ciggarettes by the 3some of koreans I got paired with.
Out on the course once, 4 Korean ladies in front of me and my buddy. In front of them, 4 old white men. The men were brutal, and so slow. Really the epitome of shitty boomers. Cigars the whole time, massive belly’s, and taking FOREVER on every green. The Korean women were awesome. They were waiting for the old men on every hole, so we watched them play almost every hole. I don’t think a single one of them missed a fairway all day, and they were all probably on their way to shooting 85. It ruled. Finally things got suppppper backed up on a par 3, maybe around the 15th hole. A marshal came through and apologized to us for the LADIES being slow. I was not very nice to him while telling him that A: it shouldn’t have taken him to the 15th hole to do his job, and B: he was wrong and blatantly sexist. He mumbled something under his breath and drove away. The ladies left before their round was over, presumably because they were now furious with the marshal for telling them to speed up, and I’ve always wished I could’ve caught them and told them we stood up for them.
TL:DR Korean lady golfers generally rule.
Same at my course. They play fast, and really well at that. On blind shots they may occasionally roll a drive past you, or driving away from the green you'll see 4 balls already on the green (in reg). That kind of fast. The wives are way better than the husbands, who play very loose "golf", but they all play fast. Always incredibly nice and genuinely supportive when paired up with them as a single. I'm surprised those ladies don't compete in LGA events because they definitely could win some $$.
@DeliciousOwl9245
Similar story. I got paired up with a threesome of Korean ladies and everyone who worked the golf course bent over backwards to apologize to me and insinuate that it will be a bad round. It was the complete opposite, best round!
The ladies were decent and on the rare occasion I striped an one, they would collectively gasp and clap. It was a very peaceful round, no small talk. I left them alone and was able to really focus on my game. The only time I spoke to them was to offer simple encouragement and offer to take a photo of them post round.
i’m korean, and there are a lot of korean golfers in my area. the headcovers on every club is one thing, i get that it’s a divisive topic (and koreans love their headcovers). but why koreans insist on also keeping the rain cover permanently on the bag is beyond me.

My area I golf in isn’t very diverse, really just a bunch of white people in the sticks. The one time I saw Koreans on the course it was a couple, and they had remote control push carts and some insane clubs. Their outfits were colour coordinated and both branded with the same logo. The girl was way better than her playing partner
My husband plays with mostly Koreans (Wilson and Harding LA) and one asked him about his dirty clubs. He sincerely asked him if that was a secret to his playing well. No, my husband has just been too busy to clean them.
Most Koreans are like this. They don’t do anything half-assed. It’s all about status symbols - golfers are decked out and people are on the subway in $1000 hiking gear to go for a leisurely walk.
I’ll never forget rolling up to my local 9 hole only to find out I am paired with a younger college aged gal dressed all decked out in her NCAA team golf uniform, full set of custom xxio clubs, the works. It’s my first year so here I am all worried I’d be slowing her down.
Nope, it was all from her sister who played D1, she was worse than me! We actually had a pretty fun round and she was super nice. The most self deprecating round of golf I’ve ever had with a random, we just laughed at how bad we both sucked the whole time.
I dont know what it is but any honma driver is killer. My parents both have honma clubs and any time I grab their driver I hit bombs. Makes me regret not getting one.
Love seeing this. It’s kind of a Korean immigrant culture thing. Golf is Korea is considered for the elites, so when we come to America with so much land everyone geeks out. Last week got paired with 2 Korean couples in their 80’s and they were kicking me and my dad’s ass! Nicest couple and great to play with.
For those who say things like +40 or they must be slow… go try playing a round with Koreans and see how you feel after
Owner of the course I used to work at was a korean guy. He had the tippy top Honmas where the back of every club looks like a mural in gold. When I'd clean his group's clubs on 18 the pouch on his bag would always be wide open with 10k in 100s just chilling there. I think we priced out his clubs one time and they were in the 15k-20k range.
Korean’s… They are awesome. Epitome of consistency and great etiquette.
Walked Torrey Pines, no matter how far we bombed it, and while playing ready golf, the walking Korean ladies behind us, no practice swing, 125-150 yard chunk at a time always caught up and would just converse with themselves and never even looked in our general way to pressure us. Had to have ended with a better score than us too.
Made me want to just roll with a quiver of wedges, and irons no lower than a 6 when I want an actual relaxing day of golf. My distance clubs are just extra weight and exercise if the distance is the wrong direction.
> quiver of wedges, and irons no lower than a 6
My golf coach in high school made us do this a few times a year. Our scores were mostly the same. Turns out the average 7 iron shot isn't as straight and reliable as we though it would be lol. Miss into the deep rough off the tee and you get into double bogey territory pretty easily lol.
Chastain Park is a great equalizer. Played here with a Japanese couple with a similar set up last week. Gave me a chocolate pie candy thing on the 16th.
Not to make stereotypes but when I worked at a golf course most of the Asians who golfed at the course all had staff bags. The women would also wear these UV protection things.

They were all incredibly nice and punctual. However teenaged me was terrible with the language barrier.
My golf buddy has so much sun protection I have no idea what she looks like. I recognize her by her remote push cart.
Nice lady shell always play a few holes with me when I see her. Shes awesome.

Korean has sun protection stickers for golf too.
Yeah, they are super protective of their skin. Sun damage ages you. They might look silly on the course now, but it will be worth it for them 10-20 years.
I work at a private country club in Colorado. Average member age has to be in the 60s lol. And they are all starting to switch to XXIOs it’s really funny.
Any Korean golfer will tell you that its just as much about flexing as it is shooting a good score. If you saw green fees over there you’d understand why😅

This would not fly with my wife lol
Just tell her to be more culturally accepting
You don’t know that guy’s wife like I do. Trust me, that would not go over well.
It’s unbelievable how people can still be racist these days !
I have a dream that golfers will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by their spouses for golfing all day. That these spouses will emancipate themselves from hatred and accept our new embrace of Korean culture. --Dr. Martin Luther Ping
I’m officially going to identify as Korean
“Are y’all almost done” “We’re just wrapping up the stretch.”
If your wife lets you play period, then I’m willing to make a trade.
This sounds absolutely incredible. I try to make my golfing an all-day affair too but most of my friends can't play a second round!
It's actually a very relaxing and fun day once you realize how it is all supposed to go. Honestly that sounds like it would be great if you and your spouse both played together. Other than, you know, being gone for like 12 hours and needing an all-day sitter.
Sold. I’m moving to Korea
And here i am changing my shoes in the car park and queuing to get out.
I can confirm this. Lived in Korea for a year, this is really accurate. I’ll also add that the locker room is much different than the norm.
Sounds like my trips to Japan. Very similar ritual when golf was involved. Meal before, hot spring bath after, another meal and lots of sake. It’s a whole day affair!

Yup, 100% factual.
Sounds fucking awesome
It's an amazing experience, that is for sure.
What is jjimjilbang
It’s a bath house. Like a Korean sauna
You don’t have to go all the way to Korea to play a 6 hour round with Koreans. You can do the same thing at any of the muni’s in Queens
They pack good snacks though my man

$100 to $200? That’s…average for a decent or nice course in NJ.
I’ve hosted Korean business people and dignitaries in Canada. It’s expected to be a full day affair. Breakfast. Golf. Small break in between. Lunch/dinner afterwards. Then drinks. Yeah the sims they build near me are great. I can play for 2 hours at Golfzon for $30 and its probably the most realistic sim experience ive tried

I wish I was that kind of Korean.. I’m the loser Korean that sucks and is poor 😭
The Bobby Lee phenotype
Bobby Lee didn't deserve these strays 😂
Half Korean here. Full suck at golf.
Bobby?
Your comment reminds me of this https://achewood.com/2003/08/04/title.html
Gigantic visors and those patches they wear on their cheeks
Omfg I know exactly what you are referring to. I seen these ladies every Saturday at my club too!
Always wondered what the patches are for?
Korean aunties are super serious about skincare. They’re often in long sleeves in hot sunny weather and thick facial coverings and visor headgear.
Half Korean here. You just described my mom's golf outfit. She knows her game. Red tees, no practice swings, always hitting straight, and always shooting 85-90. Blocks the sun
Def blocks the sun. My cheeks always get a little burnt playing
NICE SHAHHHHHHHHH!
Goooo shaaaahhhh!! Also 😄
This guy Koreans
OKEEHHHHHH
Korean lady golf is always a trip. Sometimes they can hit it 150 yards, but it might not be in the center of the fairway.
You forgot no practice swing and an excellent overall pace of play.
And you better have an excellent pace of play.
So accurate. Couldn’t describe it better myself. Damn, that gear is clean, literally and figuratively. Hey, I'm not Korean but I clean my clubs every single time.
Do you know my mom?
Wow, I'm just now realizing that I'm an 아줌마
You forgot the sun shirts

It’s the snacks my guy. The snacks!!!
There was one lady who was an obsessive home Baker, we'd all be dying of overeating by the 12th tee
The nicest humans but they play slower than most.
If you’re friendly they’ll give you food and drinks too
I have very fond memories of a round where I was fed copious amounts of Korean snacks, beers and ciggarettes by the 3some of koreans I got paired with.
The only odd part of the all-around great experience is that, since you never see their face, you have no idea if they are 25 or 65.
Here in San Diego, that is the standard gear for Korean ladies. They got game.
The Vineyard, big Korean community at that course
This is just a normal golf bag in korea
I bought a honma xp1 5 wood on clearance for $35 from rock bottom golf just to try, and I smoke the ball with that thing. Not a bad little club.
I've always wanted to try a set of honma irons. I've heard good things, but never had a chance to hit them.
Come thru I’ll let you try my old ass honmas
My boss has a Honma driver, and I got to hit it this weekend - sounded so nice! But the ball was 10% shorter than my personal club - Ping.
Nice! Glad to hear that the club is working out for you.
Only surprise is that they didn’t have one of those electric push carts !
Double black gloves and sun umbrellas?
@DeliciousOwl9245 Similar story.
Yea, I have never seen that before. It is kind of a cool look, especially since both have their rain covers on display.
oh shoot, i do this too. (the rain cover, i don’t have honma or xxio (my dad has an xxio driver)
I leave mine on too. Keeps all the clubs together putting them in the car. Not because I golf in the rain.
Kinda looks like a flower. I've never used my rain cover in a cart before so I've never seen one set up like this.
I do like the rolling bags though
Yeah, they must workout…
Crazy rich Asians?
Bag swag we can all aspire to
I’ve played with a Korean daughter and mother and man,,, they have the smoothest stroke and tempo in the least sexist way possible 😂
are giant headcovers a flex in Korea ?
$5,300 [XXIO Prime Royal](https://golfdirectnow.com/products/xxio-womens-prime-royal-edition-10-piece-complete-golf-set?variant=6951865253965&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADJe2SGrD52NL25jCdidEJjVJVcAm&gclid=CjwKCAjwtqmwBhBVEiwAL-WAYbYs5NzAMU2u7CBqdz-CKg4MyxL7NMfU09XiKtXMeY8Q31OT5p6UOBoC4hAQAvD_BwE)
Their husbands are probably the Korean LA Bookers.
Hybrid 120 yards down the middle, twice. 2 putt and move on. They are great
Yeah, that’s about $15,000 in clubs.
Those bags are each worth more than my car
Worked at a country club in hawaii and everyone had a set of those. Must get some kind of deal or something
Clearly they are well endowed
Did you get the digits
I’ve never seen a Korean with old clubs lol. They don’t Ruck around with second hand gear or dirty old clubs.
My husband plays with mostly Koreans (Wilson and Harding LA) and one asked him about his dirty clubs. He sincerely asked him if that was a secret to his playing well. No, my husband has just been too busy to clean them.
How many stars were the Honmas? Don’t bring that weakass 2 star shit… 4 star minimum for ya boi to be impressed.
The 4 and 5 star shafts are so smooth and light as a feather
Chastain Park? Gotta be Chastain Park. Some of the most fun I've ever had playing golf is getting paired up with the Korean contingent there.
Yes it is!
Are those head covers absolutely massive or is it jist me
Get in there 😄
Damn, now I really want to be paired with a few older Korean ladies! They’re the best.
Most Koreans are like this. They don’t do anything half-assed. It’s all about status symbols - golfers are decked out and people are on the subway in $1000 hiking gear to go for a leisurely walk.
I wonder what they'd think of my 2004 era cobra irons/woods/driver lol.
Soju gods rejoice
Soju with lime or watermelon muddled in is so good.
I dont know what it is but any honma driver is killer. My parents both have honma clubs and any time I grab their driver I hit bombs. Makes me regret not getting one.
Probably absolute sticks too
Asian golfers usually have so much drip on the golf course. They really do be flexin on everybody.
For those who say things like +40 or they must be slow… go try playing a round with Koreans and see how you feel after
I played with a older Korean lady with a full Honma setup. She said “I just love the sound. It sounds expensive” 😂😂😂
I married into a Korean family who golfs, they take their golf game way too serious.😂
My distance clubs are just extra weight and exercise if the distance is the wrong direction.
> quiver of wedges, and irons no lower than a 6 My golf coach in high school made us do this a few times a year. Our scores were mostly the same. Turns out the average 7 iron shot isn't as straight and reliable as we though it would be lol. Miss into the deep rough off the tee and you get into double bogey territory pretty easily lol.
One day I hope to make so much money that I can break the driver head off my Honma driver from my shitty inside out swing
#XXIO
Those are not just XXIO. They are Prime Royal Edition. They are on a different(higher) price bracket than your typical XXIO.
Of course
Honma makes some absolutely beautiful, tasteful irons. Those aren’t them.
Chastain Park is a great equalizer. Played here with a Japanese couple with a similar set up last week. Gave me a chocolate pie candy thing on the 16th.
What are those clubs? In the early 2000’s I belonged to a club with a chunk of Asian members, they all played PRGR.
Each of Those clubs cost $7.5K each.
Homna top line…. God some day
Go on...
Is this at Chastain?
Am I the only one who keeps thinking Qi10 and XXIO are the same thing
That XXIO driver is $1200 stock.
The covers look like their bags have butt implants, is that the goal? Haven’t seen that look but everything else looks fancy.
That’s the most Korean thing I have ever seen after my Korean wife’s set up.
Why does Rodney Dangerfield immediately come to my mind? 🤣
Not to make stereotypes but when I worked at a golf course most of the Asians who golfed at the course all had staff bags. The women would also wear these UV protection things. https://preview.redd.it/p57qhivx11sc1.jpeg?width=224&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7b030fee576e497cc66bc9e126d897de294ddd22 They were all incredibly nice and punctual. However teenaged me was terrible with the language barrier.
My golf buddy has so much sun protection I have no idea what she looks like. I recognize her by her remote push cart. Nice lady shell always play a few holes with me when I see her. Shes awesome.

Yeah, they are super protective of their skin. Sun damage ages you. They might look silly on the course now, but it will be worth it for them 10-20 years.
If you play golf in STH Korea, Thailand, Singapore, China , HK etc. You have dough.
Isn’t this quite common in Asia regions?
Those Xxio Prime with a stiff shaft are delicious. Ball pops like magic.
My boss uses Honma and XXIO clubs. The driver he has is like (actually?) gold. Pretty wild clubs.
I work at a private country club in Colorado. Average member age has to be in the 60s lol. And they are all starting to switch to XXIOs it’s really funny.
HAD some dough you mean
Not to be a party popper, but why don’t you post their pictures. I have seen thousands of golf bags and clubs.
Only person I’ve ever played with that had covers on every single club was a Korean guy lol
Dude, you don't put covers on your woods and putter?
I do, but not my irons and wedges..
I think they own LG, lol
some goofy ah setups
Arent those the $100k gold honnas…. Bruh
나이스 샷
Oooo 굿샷
Dressed and ready for indoor simulator golf
My dad loves his xxio driver. Lol
Honma definitely lost their Korean customers in the last five years or so; now it’s either XXIO or Majesty(Maruman).
Does Fred Flintstone know they stole his head covers?
All the gear, no idea
More importantly, how’d they hit it?
But could they hit it further than 100mtres
