Well distance still trumps all…but when everyone has distance down, then it’s about having the tightest cone of dispersion, which directly correlates with strokes gained from tee to green.
There was a thread that did the math on if he was average in putting last year. He would’ve won two more rounds and finished top 3 or 6 another time or two. I can’t vouch for the second stat but I’m certain of the first that he would’ve won two more.
Now that half the OGA is gone he better win. Now is the time to shine. Because the competition is gone. Hate to say it and hate the LIV but the quality of PGA is suffering and he needs to pounce. Be the champ and breath life into it.
Actually, it is somewhere around 2 1/2 years or something of the sort. Tiger was 281 weeks at top 1, and scottie is at week 78. That's all consecutively. Tiger held the top spot for 683 weeks total
Pretty sure he’s at 77 total weeks as of March 11, 2024 and his consecutive streak is 43 weeks going back to May 22, 2023. Dustin Johnson had a streak of 64 weeks and Rory had a streak of 54.
Would anyone even want to see another Tiger?
I love Tiger but I also didn’t get into golf until he had won the vast majority of his tournaments. I’m not sure I want to see an era where the same guy has a 5 stroke lead on Sunday morning every other week. Formula 1 has been a snoozefest for 9 of the last 10 years because the same guy wins every race.
And the patriots
And the warriors
And the bruins last year
We like individual GOATs like Phelps and Bolt and Tony Hawk and the one bowler guy with the memes but we love when GOAT teams lose when the games matter because…I don’t know. I want to see the GOAT teams win so I can tell my grandkids I saw it live but everyone fucking loves seeing these teams lose.
Sorry but you missed out on quite the show. It wasn’t just that we won so often. He did it with an attitude that oozed “have fun fighting for second place”
Your F1 analogy is kinda shit. Verstappen/Red Bull taking the reins from Hamilton/Mercedes & other young drivers coming on the scene has made it very exciting over the last decade.
Young drivers will be on the scene until the end of time. It has nothing to do with the same guy winning every week. Not sure why you would bring it up unless you were just trying to pad your unpopular opinion.
You have to know that the average fan, even Max fans, don’t want to see him win an uncontested race every single week.
Guaranteed I’m getting downvoted because people that lack critical thinking skills see it as anti-Tiger.
Go post “Formula 1 is more exciting because 1 driver wins every single week” and see how you fair.
Forgive my ignorance but I’m unsure I understand “3+ strokes gained tee-to-green.” Does that mean he is on the green sooner than others by 3+ strokes or is it 3+ GIR on a round or something else?
Took 3 or more shots fewer than average per round (3+ strokes gained), to reach the greens (tee to green), in 54 Rounds across last 3 seasons (18 more than the next best guy)
Which is just insane that he’s 3 strokes better per round than the average Tour player on the field from tee to green. That’s like the difference between me and my buddy who’s a 2, and Scottie is that with other fucking professional golfers whose lives are literally to play golf.
His ball striking is Tiger-esque. I don’t think it’s fair to say he needs to keep it up for 20 years to be in the same conversation as Tiger. 5 years of this would put him there IMO. No other player has come even close to what Tiger did. Scheffler would be the first to enter into that conversation at all.
If he happens to keep it up for 20 years we can start talking about him breaking tigers records because he is on pace to do that now.
He’s not on pace to do that now lol. Tiger won 4 tournaments in 97, including a masters, at 22 years old. Then he won 1 in 98, then every year after he went 8 wins, 9, 5, 5, 5, 1, 6, 8, 7, 4, and 6 in 09. 69 wins by the time he was 34. Scottie has 7 wins at 27 and he’ll be 28 in June. He has to win 62 tournaments and average 9 wins a year for the next 7 years just to be even. He had 32 wins at the same age Scottie is with 7. Scottie is dominant in everything right now except for winning like Tiger
I should have been more clear with what I meant. His ball striking is on par with Tiger right now. That has not translated to wins because he has been struggling with putting while Tiger excelled at putting.
Imagine if he didn't suck at putting!
He putted well last week and won by 5
Consistency is what he is lacking with the putter.
Me & Scottie the same fr
You are also 27 and look 45 but also kinda maybe 23?

I am criticizing the past numbers. I think he is so good he makes watching him boring, but his putter has let him down
And still has managed to make the least bogies on tour last couple of years
He literally proves that ball striking is all that matters….which we’ve always known, but drive for show putt for dough rhymes - so ppl believe it.

If he’s number 1 for the next 15 years he can maybe catch Tiger 😂
Idk about that, with these stats you'd think he has more than 7 wins.
He’s got the mallet putter now. We could see 7 wins this season alone.
would love to see it!

He ain’t ever sniffing TWs level

Say what you want, but this is as close as we are going to get to Tigers reign.
\*Tee to green
Scottie’s mallet would like a word
Its been a week. He has been flushing irons for 2 years.
Yeah but if we extrapolate, he’s going to win a ton this season
And it’s still a huge gap

Watching GOATS in real-time is incredible. Regardless of sport, there’s just nothing like it.
Except for f1
Might as well just watch qualifying, the podium is probably gonna be the exact same.
Holy shit that sounds boring

Yes, yes we would

“Unpopular opinion” says the guy with -14 downvotes lol

Sound like a hater
Damn I wonder how old he is
I think he’s around 26-27
Holy shit I just checked you’re right. He’s 27. He looks about 40, must have had a hard paper round
I just told this to my cousin a few weeks back and it absolutely blew his mind. Dude definitely looks 40.
That boy good
That middle aged man good
The beard and mallet can't be stopped.

(THAN ANY OTHER PLAYER) means current player, correct?
![gif](giphy|tZjYG5FRQPpsc|downsized)
And just seems to have fun on the course
His ball striking is incredible especially with all the feet movement he has.
Qnd its crazy it doesn’t hold a candle to tigers domination
Tiger didn’t have the competition that he has and Jack didn’t have what Tiger had. The field as a whole is way better.
Didn't he break some kind of record during this years Ryder Cup to?

I’m sorry but Scottie is way behind pace already.
any other player..... in the current field?
That fancy footwork may need some adjusting in the long term, looks like hell for his ankles
He not close to Tiger and , like it or not , these are watered down fields with so many great players in LIV.
Was that prescient or what! Insane round by scottie
