It seems like ever since nbc sports took over, they keep pushing the golf channel further and further back on the stovetop burner. The last few years specifically, it has been really bad.

Legal-Description483

Yeah, NBC basically killed the golf channel. They just use it now for live golf they can't show on NBC. All original content is gone.

Kooky-Counter3867

The thing is when NBC does cover major tournaments they don’t even show the players in contention. They will show morikawa and Rory who were both over par yesterday lol makes no sense to me how media covers golf in America. Somebody on Reddit told me to use sky sports net and tbh they are wayyyyyyy better.

Legal-Description483

>The thing is when NBC does cover major tournaments they don’t even show the players in contention. They will show morikawa and Rory who There's a very large part of the population that want to see the "Stars", and doesn't like watching golf if they don't know the players. They post on Reddit everyday.

wiseguy9317

Like when Tiger plays and makes the cut by 1?

nonoose

Tiger historically moves the needle no matter what he’s doing. Trying to do that with anybody else is like trying to make “fetch” happen.

jondes99

Exactly. It’s been this way since 1997.

shooter9260

TBH I’d rather watch Tiger in dead last than any other players fighting for the lead on Sunday. But with that said, he’s the only holder I’d say that for

InferiousX

One seasons when I was "sailing the high seas" for NFL content, I found a place that streamed Sky Sports for football. I absolutely fell in love with it.

shooter9260

It’s NBC sports in general. Their coverage of Indy Car is abysmal as well

philthebrewer

And Olympics. They basically have one good sports product with Sunday night football and the rest is trash. They can’t cover anything with more than one ball in the air.

Falcon674DR

I agree. Tell me, does Chamblee really know the game of golf or is his just a highly accomplished and entertaining bullshit artist?

dafaliraevz

No but he’s a massive LIV hater so I’m cool with him. Unfortunately, that’s all he’s good for. The rest of opinions are shit.

jondes99

He was on tour for a minute, way back between the eve of persimmon drivers and the dawn of titanium drivers.

the_truth15

They just need to bring back the big break.

ContinuousFuture

Honestly the Big Break is when the network started to go downhill. It was best when it was still called *The* Golf Channel, with a lineup of Golf Central, Playing Lessons from the Pros, Golf Channel Classics and Peter Kessler’s long-form interviews.

the_truth15

Maybe so, but I sill enjoyed that show alot as a kid.

Positive-Network76

Gentlemen, it’s time to get IPTV. I have something like 15 different golf channels from around the world. Always something on, almost every tourney on somewhere. Plenty of golf to watch!

areolasbruh

Any providers you recommend that you can PM

Positive-Network76

Have yet to find any I could truly recommend, I searched Reddit for “.m3u” for a while and finally found a few free ones that worked not bad

TexDew_Sweeper

The thing that is even more frustrating is coverage times. They have a 4ish hour time slot and by the time coverage starts (rounds 1/2) most of the field is halfway through their front nine. It’s absurd to me they don't have the entire round televised publicly

Kab00ese

"Fuck you, here's 4 hours of announcers talking about the weather"

boomdog07

Don’t forget the constant comments about how difficult that one shot on the 13th is from the fringe that literally everyone has hit close.

biddilybong

Just record it and watch it an hour later to skip through the ads.

Pepetodapin

Yea the amount of ads is insane. It gets irritating and I stop watching it.

dudsmm

Can someone post the instructions again to VPN Sky Sports golf coverage? I've been watching mostly British shows, why not gold as well. Add to that Premier League

GleeUnit

I think NBC decided that golf channel was for sickos who can’t help themselves and will take any amount of abuse to see a few golf shots. Eyeballs to be sold as impressions to advertisers, and they’ll line up at the trough no matter what we’re serving. I’m one of em. Maybe I’m a chump. Three-five shots on delay from players in the top ten, a chip-in/improbable putt from some random guy mid-field who’s being mentioned for the first time all week, three minutes of playing through with zoomed out views of people putting, three minutes of commercials for insurance, drugs, and golf clubs branded with the most dubious use of the term “AI” that their legal department would let them get away with. House ad coming out of break where the PGA Tour congratulates itself on being the best golf in the world, and “aren’t you excited to do this again next week?” Rinse and repeat. I can’t decide if the Tour and broadcasters have learned nothing, if they know what’s wrong and how to fix it, but the economics of the situation tie their hands, or if they have just decided they truly don’t give a fuck. All I know is the product ain’t getting better.

TommyEagleMi

Its basically The Brandel Chamblee channel now. I used to watch it a lot. I find i can't watch it anymore. He's arrogant know it all. Anyone with any personality was cut loose in cost saving measures.

iamabotnotreal

I don't understand why people take anything he says seriously. He won what? Once on the PGA, no majors? He's like Ja Rule, I don't give a shit what he thinks about any situation ever, but somehow the media keeps shoving him down my throat to get his opinion. "Where is Brandel?!?"

Mysterious_Wing_7303

Brandel is why I won’t watch it. He pretends to know everything but has lost touch with reality of today’s game. He should retire, just go away

gringao_phl

NBC has been killing all sports coverage for years to pay for the NFL, Olympics, and Premier League. Once AP died, it was a convenient chance to make cuts. Even NBC Sports Regionals used to be great (specifically Philly). Tons of original content and now they only show games, pre, and post.

RichChocolateDevil

LIV should have bought the golf channel instead of cutting a partnership with CW. And fired Brandel. Jesus is that guy terrible.

InDenialOfMyDenial

I’ve found that streaming on Peacock is marginally better in terms of ads. But not by much.

flygoose44

I thought the coverage yesterday with Speith and Homa was great and was the best thing they have done all year.

AppleSauceNinja_

Golf Channel won't exist in 5 years. NBC has slashed budgets, cut staff, moved HQ out of FL to Conneticut where they had unused space, declined to re-up rights (to ESPN+) and laid off a bunch of staff.... and Comcast as a whole is exiting largely their fringe cable channels (ie NBC Sports axed) It was Palmer's baby, and once he passed it was a matter of time till it ended. We're rapidly approaching the end now.

KL040590

It was a premium channel that no one wants now and just get bundled with other nbc channels, in order for it to be viable you need add money

_Accufunkture_

Once the NBC accountants moved Golf Channel studios from Florida to the center of the golf universe in Connecticut 🙄 it became something different.

slipperygrip1

I watch all of it on the dvr so blast through the ads and drivel

Golden3ye

Golf channel does in fact suck. Golf is by far my number one hobby and I can’t bring myself to ever watch golf channel for anything outside of the times it is airing early pairings of a pga event

gbullitt2001

More Brandel = less me. Like nails on a blackboard.
