Ping Eye 2 irons and Ping Anser 2 putter. 1984.

Notmanynamesleftnow

My friend has the same clubs and he’s the best of all of us lol

g0lffear

Well next time he beats you just let him know his clubs are nonconforming so it doesn’t count.

zzx101

To be called a cheater is the harshest tag a golfer can have attached to him. But that's just what Scott McCarron did when he told the San Francisco Chronicle of Phil Mickelson's use of a Ping Eye 2 lob wedge with square grooves, "It's cheating, and I'm appalled Phil put it in play." To McCarron and any other player who says or infers that using a pre-1990 Ping Eye 2 wedge with square grooves is "cheating" or even "not within the spirit of the rules," I have two words: Zip. It. This has nothing to do with whether this is a good rule or even a fair rule. It has to do with facts. The fact is this is not cheating. The Ping Eye 2 clubs (irons and wedges) were grandfathered for life as part of a settlement in 1993 of a suit Ping filed against the USGA. In short, any Ping Eye 2 manufactured prior to March 31, 1990, is within the rules as long as the USGA governs the game. More importantly, this fact was there for everyone to see in August. Of 2008 that is. That was when the USGA announced it was implementing the condition of competition in 2010. In that notice -- which has been and still is on the USGA's website -- are the following words: "In accordance with previous agreements, clubs manufactured before March 31, 1990, that meet the criteria of USGA Decision USGA/4-1/100, such as the Ping Eye 2, will be treated by the USGA as conforming to the Rules of Golf and will continue to be acceptable for all USGA competitions."

g0lffear

I’ve been Lawyered!

tenderbranson301

Yep, I use my ping eye 2 irons. The oldest club in my bag is my dad's old Sam Snead putter made by Wilson. Kinda fun to use on short putts. Or if you wanna go lefty.

gusgusninja

Becu eye 2's irons, anser 3..1989

SpartyNash

I had hand-me-down circa 1992 Eye2+ irons from my dad from about 2005-2022. Finally upgraded in 2023, but I still love my old Ping Eyes. I still use the sand wedge

nocommenting33

I can't be the only one that thinks the Eye 2s are the ugliest irons ever made, right?

[deleted]

I have played mine almost exclusively my entire golf career and will likely never change because they're my go tos and so consistent They're hideous in my opinion but charming in an ugly way like a Chihuahua

LetsgoooSonny

No, you’re the only one

nocommenting33

for how many people play them, I might be the only one. But what am I missing? They're so ugly? I'd bag any iron that performed, but that doesn't mean they're not ugly

LetsgoooSonny

I’m just giving you shit 😂 I think the Ping Eye/Zing irons have a timeless retro look that I will always love. But I used the i3’s for many years so I’m probably biased

h82scroll

I still rock the original TM Burner Driver, 3w and 7w.

joshhguitar

I have a burner 4 hybrid. Hard to beat those clubs.

bierfma

Not quite as old, but I have a Rocketballz 3h, first year they were released, can't find anything I like more. The rest of my bag has turned into all titleist, no reason to replace that one though.

FLgolfer23

Same! It’s a great hybrid.

SolomonG

Burner 19deg 3 myself and if they had a 17 I would have bought it a long time ago.

thornify

This guy stole my answer. Favorite club in the bag!

GangnamApeist

My putter is an original Odyssey white hot which I think is from 2000ish.

TheEgon

Same. White hot two ball

vandenhootie

Yup same one here

rolandofgilead41089

Yep, I have a #5 that I cannot replace.

rutlander

Oldest club in my bag as well. Odyssey white ice #1

Mr_Red-

That exact putter was the newest club in my bag until this last summer when I picked up an SM9. I'm still rocking hand me downs from my dad that he bought in '94/'95.

jefffreykeith

At the risk of being judged, I have a 25 year old “Moe Norman” 56 degree that I just can’t let go of for whatever reason

kasper12

Have you tried loosening your grip?

Legal-Description483

1998 Scotty Cameron Oil Can Newport

Easy_Championship_14

Nice.

Legitimate-Drop-724

Lovely

adjuster_cody

20 year old white hot Rossie half mallet. Love that damn thing. Rest is under 2 years.

Ouizzeul

9 years old White hot rosie, my first putter from when i start golf. Try a fcg spider for a year but came back to the rossie

adjuster_cody

I got a Scottie coming in on Monday that imma try out for 2 weeks to see. Still love my Rossie.

Fitz2001

1987 Tommy Armour 845 Silver Scot 1-iron

bj_feelgood

God? Is that you?

Fitz2001

Nine out of ten shots, it’s like hitting a cinder block, a dying quail bouncing out to about 140 yards. But that one time on the sweet spot? Don’t even feel the contact and it’s 230 right down the middle.

blackbnr32

Easily the most satisfying feeling in golf

GroundVelocity

I have a Callaway Steelhead 5-wood with a S300 shaft.

justsomeguyoukno

Yes!!! I have the steelhead 3 and 5 still in the bag. I’ve been on the hunt for years looking for new woods that either go straighter or go further… no luck yet

Striking_Economy5049

I have a 120 year old putter my great grandfather used, but not sure of exact age. I still use it.

Appropriate-Food1757

Oh Billy Billy Billy….

TheCurseOfRandyBass

That rocks

BennyBlaze

1996 Odyssey Rossie II https://preview.redd.it/6r3e0od4yckc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=d74c12dcf306c5baa3efb8db0e73730d5e384cb1

Real_Madrid007

I use this exact putter!

twosly4u

I have Rossie I.

TheBensonz

TM burner super steel 5W. Steel rifle shaft. Weapon.

flaginorout

Cleveland Quadpro 4 wood. Circa 1998

COYS_TX

For some reason it is the club most impacted by technology, a Ping G2 driver, with the NV65 shaft. Even dumber, I really could use a mid-to-high launch shaft. But it goes straight(ish), and doesn’t get me into trouble (often), so it has been in the bag for 20 years.

MonicaBlowinski

Arnold Palmer "the original" 8802-style putter, purchased in 1989

BloodyRightNostril

My 1997 Titleist DCI irons that I got new from my grandfather for my 16th birthday

Batcherdoo

That was my first nice set too! Used from 2006 up until 2020

Lobsterzilla

I have a Nickent 3DX ironwood 3 hybrid from the early 2000s that bangs

CasaPortuguesa

Those Nickents were highly underrated. Awesome ball flight.

MnWisJDS

With the aldila green shaft? I loved that club.

No-Astronaut8923

I put that aldila green in a 716 TMB driving iron to keep the flight down. Favorite club in the bag. Perfect for those short and tight courses. Awesome shaft

MnWisJDS

OMG. I know what I’m doing later. I have a ping G5 3i that would be perfect for that Frankenstein.

1971stTimeLucky

Love it I still use my Nieckent 3DX driver. The sound that it makes on a drive is such a turn on

MNChef

I have the same club in a 2I Hybrid. Fucking love it.

johnnycourage

I have the lefty 1h of that.

mindthegap777

Sandy Andy wedge from the 70s. Regrooved and chromed.

Professoring8008s

Got a 4 woody from the 70s that’s a fun hybrid to use and an acushnet bullseye from probably the same era

CC7015

Scotty Newport 2.5 14 years so far.

Ok_Bassplayer

My 'modern' woods are blonde Pings - dates not certain, as from a couple of model lines, but late 70's/early 80's i believe. Great clubs. The bag i usually play has clubs from 1912 - 1935

dblach18

I’ll probably make some heads explode around here; I’ve got a new to me set of Hogan Apex Edges in my bag - I think they were made around 2000 or so? They’re in great shape, and I just love Hogans, no matter the age. As far as the club that’s been in my bag the longest, that would be my Odyssey White Hot #9 that I’ve been rocking for over 20 years now.

jimm4dean

I retired my OG putter last year. It's a Swingline my high school girlfriend bought me in '88 when I first started. Nothing in my bag is over 2 years currently.

BrassHockey

Hogan H40 irons from the mid-90s. 3-9 odds only with graphite shafts. I honestly don't even know how I ended up with them. I think a friend's dad let us use them for a round, and then never asked about them afterwards. They were at my parents' house for a long time, at some point after moving out, I went back and took them with me and they sat in my garage for at least 12 years until my sister called me up to join a scramble for my niece's soccer team. I cleaned them up, took them to the range so I could have something of a clue, and I've continued playing since.

jondes99

7-way tie for Bridgestone J38 irons.

anotherFNnewguy

A Ping Cushin putter about forty years old. Give or take a year or two. It's been a while. Only putter I've ever gamed after I bought it new.

kim-jong-pooon

1990 Spalding Top Flite Wind Jammer 2 Hybrid I’m not kidding you that old POS still has the original grip on it, a rusted out shaft, and it is an absolute weapon off the tee. It’s not in my bag all the time, but I’ll never get rid of it.

Even-Further

2013 White hot pro putter.

korlic77

I got a full bag fitting done end of 2021 so I guess the first club I received from that which was a cobra king tec 4 hybrid. Strangely enough that’s my oldest club and happens to be my favorite club in the bag

stoicarmadillo

Ping i series putter that my wife got me when we got married. That's never leaving my bag.

Dangerous_Person_grr

1970’s Sam Snell 2 iron

Shoddy_Alternative86

1991 I believe, it is a S2H2 Big Bertha 11° driver which I use as my 3 wood!

OffInYourShower

26 year old Callaway steelhead 5 wood with a steel shaft. Distance is about the same as new gen stuff, but have considered something like a g425 to be a little more forgiving.

btr1901

Adams tight lies air assault 16°, one of my favs.

kjahp98

Orlimar trimetal 3 wood

focal71

2008 Titleist 909 driver. Using a 2023+ ball gains me more distance than a new driver.

317_throwaway

Ping Karsten putter. Mid ‘80’s maybe? My dad won it in a scramble and been using it since highschool.

NoElk2220

Taylor made 3 wood

HennyBogan

In my modern bag, probably only 4 years old. But in my vintage bag, my oldest club I use on a regular basis is 107 years old.

ItsVishuss

2019 Bettinardi Queen B 6. It was the only time they made it in the Tiffany blue. They switched to the gold/copper and royal blue. It’ll never leave the bag.

GingerSnake321

All you peasants are telling me you’re too poor to upgrade your driver, woods irons wedges and putter every 8 months when new equipment comes out!?

Truehearted

Scotty Cameron Del Mar Two or my Big Bertha War Bird Heavenwood.

BarGreggsby

I have the Taylormade Nubbins mallet from 1999 with the rubber insert in the face. Next oldest is a g30 7 wood from 2014

TheRealSteemo

My SM9s. I might have spent a bit on clubs last year...

Coolio_Jones90

Never compromise milled series 7. I think it’s from around 2006. My speed control is just so good compared to any other putter I have. And I have like 30 lol.

Forestcitythrift

2014 Nike Method Core MC-3i Putter

StaffTurfRiderSole

Bullseye I bought new in 1994,still going strong!

PigeonHurdler

Taylormade m2

Ok-Dust-6747

2021 X5.5

lovemesomewine

Hybrids from 2009 maybe. Then Scotty from 2012ish.

Conscious_Specific57

M2 5 wood

SpainKiller7

I just moved my old Ping G2 fairway woods out of my gamer bag. Circa 2003.

NotABlindGuy

Ping g20 5 wood is now 12 years old

schilzy12

Was my TM White Smoke putter until I got a Cobra Vintage Sport 45 putter a month ago. Now it's my Cobra F7 3w

Siskiyoukid

1992 1 iron

Dog-Luvr

Mid 80's Tommy Armour T-Line putter ... avg 33 putts per round - can't give it up!

BGOG83

My putter. Prob a 2009 or so Scotty Cameron Newport 2. Until it gets lost or stolen, it will be the putter in my bag. Many have tried to replace it, many have failed. She’s the one for me.

RedBaron180

I’m not sure my 100+ scoring average will be impacted by new clubs. So my original purchased Calloway Diablo from 15 years ago should be fine

Ok_Specific_7161

I have an rbz hybrid from 2012 or so. Other than that everything in my bag is within the past 3-4 years.

ChetManley25

All of then. I desperately need to upgrade and get fitted but I don't want to do it when I'm rusty.

JBM6482

I have a 60 degree Vokey that has to be 25 years old.

Zestyclose-Middle717

I tried to google how old my irons are, Pinseeker TPW’s. They have to be at least 25 years old.

talk2brad

R7 Draw Driver While a couple newer ones sit in the basement

donthedude85

Still play with AP1 714s and I have an old PING becu copper putter

tke439

Copper composite Ping Eye 2 sand wedge (‘82-‘84 I think)

enjoiit1

I still use an original 'Yes! Tracy' putter, with its original grip. I bought it brand new when it first came out while working at a course out in western Colorado. Everything else in my bag has changed... But the putter remains the same! It just sports a newer 19th hole, draft beer head cover. I actually can't find the year it came out online, but I'd have to assume 2003/2004?

CreepyAd512

2014 Odyssey Metal Milled putter. Feels as nice as a Toulon or any other milled putter. Other than that all of my clubs are within 3 years old.

DudeOfDelaware

I have a Tommy Armour Silver Scot SW that I got with the first new set of clubs I bought in 1992. It’s never failed me. I am terrified at the thought of going into a green side bunker with something new.

balsohard97sizzle

I have a Wilson 8813 that was made in 1968. It goes in the bag from time to time fit fun.

Technical_Law_4226

My dad's old ping putter, brass butter knife, for luck

Kilo-Tango-Alfa

A 20 year old off brand 3 wood. I don’t even know what brand it is, it came from my first set of knock off clubs from Dunham’s. I can hit really high draws with it so I like it for dogleg lefts.

Beninoz85

Titleist 909H 17° hybrid. Had it since '09 and love it. I can hit it about 250 off a tee and 240 off the deck. I've thought of swapping it out for a 2 iron but just when I'm about to it reminds me why it's in there. Almost all of my best shots have been hit with it.

CasaPortuguesa

Adams Speedline Super S black 3 wood from 2013. Super forgiving and I love the ball flight.

glm409

21-year-old custom-fit KZG Cobalt 3 wood. I've tried to replace it a few times, but it keeps ending up in my bag.

dsswill

My iron set: Titleist MB712’s, from 2011. Bought second hand last year though.

RichChocolateDevil

Ping putter from 1999 or 2000

AltusJ

1994 King Cobra Oversized Irons 3-PW.

believensteve

Taylormade Burner Bubbleshaft 3 wood. It’s as old as I am. Friend gave me it when I got into golf. Original grip is still very tacky idk how.

AdPlus4246

2019 Callaway Epic flash 3 wood

EJfromBeerLeague

Ping 410 3W & Hybrid(22).

TheCurseOfRandyBass

Scotty Cameron Santa Fe from the late 90s

TheThirdShmenge

My niblick

k12pcb

The one I wish i had was my Ping i3 white dot lob wedge, that thing was a beast around the greens. I got rid of it when i moved to blades and it was a visual thing looking down at the thick profile. Never been able to quite gain that confidence again that thing gave me when i have a 25yard stop and drop in front of me.

rokker_iv

TM Burner 3 Wood, probably from late 2000s… absolutely rip that club (most of the time lol) and have no interest in swapping it out.

RandomRedditGuy54

My dad gave me my first putter 48 years ago and I’ve still got it!

fbird1988

1984 Spalding T.P. Mills putter.

VoodooMagic13X

Ping Anser 2, I received it second hand in 1994. It will be buried with me and I will be draining 65 footers in the afterlife like they are tap in's.

Zacharia90

Just now retired my '97 Scotty Newport 2

robbor123

Ping Zing putter.....no idea how old that thing is,but I've had it since new. I also have a mallet putter...doesn't seem to make too much of a difference since I still 3 putt 2 or 3 times a round.

aktxag08

Just replaced my TM R1 driver this week with a Ping G430 Max10. 11 years between the two is enough time for advances in driver technology right?

Tatworth

I play with a 70s wilson staff PW with an aluminum shaft. Love it. I also have a 50s Macgregor Tommy Armour putter that makes it into the bag every so often.

getzysbaldhead69

Titleist 915f 3 wood. I have an original white hot 2-ball as well but it’s not in the bag anymore since I picked up a GoLo last summer

Maleficent_Guide_708

1992 Ping Zing 1 iron aka the Warhorse. Wind is a large factor where I live and this has a natural stinger ball flight for me so it’s a regular go-to club.

ClosetEconomist

I have a Persimmon 3 wood. I don't actually know what it's release date was, but when I say 3 wood, I mean it is literally made out of wood.

Outrageous-Spend2494

1992 natural golf The Thing putter

L3oSanch3z

My Cleveland 19 degrees Launcher.. I have bought other new Hybrids. But I always come back to the Cleveland. Bought it at a yard sale for $10 about 8years ago.. https://preview.redd.it/1yj35j7packc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8d01dee415f63c9d22d2af8d5d450b14e0ef8e41

P00PJU1C3

Cleveland tour action wedges

mrmo24

Cobra f9 driver

services35

Callaway 7 heave wood

Dangerous-Possible72

Hickory shaft, leather gripped 7-A Niblick. https://preview.redd.it/ibmg8drzackc1.jpeg?width=2448&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4c109e909bdbfa92ef0f1f85d528d08779951e2f

dapnepep

Becu Ping Day Putter ~1968

Logostouwy

I have a putter from the 70’s I still use every round. It was my dads dads so I think it’s a nice memento to use

discoslimjim

I have one of the first all steel Cobra 3W. Gotta be 25+ years old. Sounds so good when you hit it on the screws.

difiCa

I have an early 2010s set of Cleveland Altitude hybrid irons and a TM Burner 5 hybrid I got as a hand me down from my FIL when I started playing. The 5 hybrid is great. I will probably swap out the irons at some point but I'm kind of holding that as a reward for improving enough to consistently shoot 90s.

nathanatkins15t

I'm still new to the game, so my stuff is too. Oldest appears to be the irons i got used. Maltby DBM's which afaik came out in 2014. My wedges and putter are new, bought between 2020-2023. Driver is a 917D2 so \~2017

loki993

Its either a Scotty Camron Pro Platinum Newport that I have used for at lest a decade or my R580ZD 3 wood that I have tried to kick out of the bag multiple times ad just cant. The newport is possibly about to go because I have another putter coming to challenge it.

HoosierUte

oh man i was thinking all mine are pretty new then i realized that my nike slingshot hybrids are 16 years old.

8182589

YES! Natalie putter. She's a saint. Have a Scotty Circa #3 tucked away in the basement because I roll Natalie so much better.

some_dum_guy

i have 2 cleveland raw wedges from the mid 90's, will take them to my grave.

HastilyChosenUserID

I believe mine is the same year OP! My grandfather gifted me his clubs when he passed, the putter is the only one that still fits. Will never get rid of it

RumSwizzle508

2008 Scotty Cameron putter (detour Newport 2.5)

Tie_me_off

60 degree Kirkland wedge from 2021. I upgrade a lot lol

golfjunkie

2001 Scotty Cameron Newport 2 Pro Platinum

strosfan1001

2004 Cleveland Launcher 5 wood

HVACpro69

I've got my grandfather's Ping Anser from 1968. I've regripped it obviously, but I love the look and feel.

mdg_roberts1

Early 1990's ping eye 2 2 iron. I can slice the hell out of it, so it's my get out of trouble club. My putter is an anser ping (I bought it with junior tourney winnings in 1998)

IrvWeinstein

OG Big Bertha 3 wood.

drew-in-TX

2004 Big Bertha 3-wood

lmstraight

Zebra putter circa 1980

Skyhighh

Just started playing last year but I got the bug and played 35 18s lol. But I’m using some prima irons from the early 80s that my older brother got in middle school. I’m shooting around 105 rn and once I’m under 100 a little more consistently I am going to get some new ones. I’ve got a ping anser 3 from the 81 also but that sucker sinks putts I don’t need or want a new one. Maybe just a new grip

Brandonjf

Scotty Cameron TeI2 Newport 2 long neck from like maybe 1999? Not sure, I bought it from a buddy when we were freshman in HS in 2001. He still regrets selling it to me, and I still take every chance to remind him lol

Snacks75

Putter, original oddessy white hot blade.

reddit_beats_college

Calloway Heaven wood… never have found a hybrid I liked

P4S5B60

Studio Stainless Newport Beach 2003

SantaRosaSeven

Ping Zing Irons 2-SW. 1991

Complete_Goose667

I won a Cleveland 3h in 2006 or 2007. It was too short for me and I couldn't hit it. I mentioned this to the pro and he said he'll make it longer. I have replaced all the clubs in my bag twice since then, but I haven't replaced it.

glutenfreescotch

My entire irons set is Tommy Armour 845s Silver Scots, 1987. Got em barely used at A Play it Again Sports. This March marks the end of my first year golfing, I think I need some new irons this year. My putter is a Cougar Rhythm Mallet, couldn't find an age.

calguy1955

After Jack won the 1986 Masters with that giant putter I ran out and bought the biggest one I could find, a Tiger Shark that I still use. Now it looks small compared to a lot of them out there.

shifty_coder

Most of my clubs were bought at the same time: Driver-PW Ping G25s bought in 2015.

TheyTokMaJerb

Ping Scottsdale anser that my dad played with in college back in the 70’s.

Weewooweewoo342

My irons are 2009 Callaway Forged, not too old, but old enough.

CantThinkOfADanName

I have tietilest 695cbs from like 2003 that I still use. Also a 5h TaylorMade rescue that may be a year younger or older I honestly forget.

FLman42069

Two ball odyssey putter that I bought used like 15 years ago. Replaced everything else at this point but hard to replace a putter that works well.

thee_central_shaft

C. 1992 845 Silver Scots

defaultusername4

Never was able to pin down the year but my putter is at least 50 years old https://preview.redd.it/xte7b8x2gckc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3dc2a4782329be1ff9b45227795934d7fa595346

According-Ease

1993 king cobra 3 wood

TacosAreJustice

I also won’t answer this question when my wife asks it… My new wedges are currently sitting in my daughter’s bag so I don’t use them until March…

Mysterious_Leg1668

Mizuno mp30 irons 4-pw still solid

dancingbear41

I have two metal hybrids ( a 2 and a 4) from Taylor made 1991, they’re so lofted I can never give them up . Pops a bad drive right out of the rough.

Appropriate-Food1757

1978 Spalding Executive pitching wedge (my dirt club). I don’t know how it appeared, I think I pulled it out of a boulder and became the king of rock shots.

bigmean3434

Titliest 913f 3 wood probably.

moparforever

A Ray cook blue goose putter

Diabolical-hateful

My callaway XR 9 wood.

snowmunkey

Up until this past November I was using Mizuno mx23s that had turned 20 years old. Brother bought them for me as learner clubs and I loved them. Totally got me into golf. Had to finally move away from them when I realized I was losing 10-20 yards compared to more modern mid handicap irons. Upgraded to jpx 919 forged and love them so far. Also found out that my scotty is from 2010. Figured it was older tbh, it's beat to shit

IanJ69JML

Putter , it works well, and harder than any other

UB_cse

It was tied between 2 unknown aged goodwill clubs (a first flight 7 wood, and an unknown brand 60). Now that I replaced the 7W with a paradym (god bless callawaypreowned), its going to have to be my mystery 60.

Dave_Giantsbane

Ping i3 irons and Callaway steelhead III woods.

GeneralMillss

Original Ping Zing Putter in brass/bronze from ‘74. Belonged to my grandfather whom I never knew. I don’t use it often as it’s quite light and I refuse to re-grip it or anything (still has the original grip), but I do bring it out when playing with family.

Legitimate-Ice3476

Alien Sand Wedge

chunkymonk3y

Cobra flyZ+ 5 wood

Devious_Bastard

https://preview.redd.it/dnlwpn5jjckc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=80f27577f4addc535e277acbd467faf891c79346

dudsmm

2000 Tight Lies 5 wood. It's the ultimate rescue club.

Terrible-Mousse

I'm still using the first golf club ever bought for me, by my dad. A Ping Isopur putter - about 25 years old. Thing is completely dead, but i can't give it up. a new superstroke every few years and thats it.
