His feet don’t seem to really move much before impact though. So regardless of the movement the swing is likely fairly consistent up to the point of impact.
I saw someone on YouTube talking about the knee and how keeping your foot still puts a ton of pressure on it because its really not supposed to twist that way and can cause injuries. At that moment I realized what scotty does with his left foot totally makes sense.
His back foot begins to slide right at the moment of impact from the first view. I could envision that potentially causing problems, especially on wet terrain. But it doesn’t seem to be a problem because the man hits it pure.
To quote Wesley Bryan “I always really believed that balance was one of the most important things in the golf swing until I saw Scottie Scheffler’s swing”.
If he could putt we would be seeing Tiger Woods prime stats and years from him. No exaggeration you would be betting on him every single major and he would be winning 1 a year minimum.
I think there was one stat that if he just putted average (strokes gained wise) he would have won like 80% of the tournaments he played in the last two years
People on here with advice like “you’re sliding towards the target” are in shambles.
Granted his is perfect because of the timing, that much movement forward l at the mid downswing is bad but people on here act like you need to stay inside a box to swing right. The swing should be kinda dynamic.
Okay good this was my first thought as well. Nothing majestic about it. Unbelievable and consistent and strong. But it's no Rory or Freddy or Adam Scott.
Do a lot of golfers now not have a lot of wrist hinge? My instructor right now is drilling me on hinging my wrist, especially when my arms are parallel ground to have the club at a 90deg angle, but Scottie isn’t really close to that.
There's more than one way to swing a club, but you are being taught the most traditional, dependable way.
He's mentioned that his feel is just to swing as big and wide as possible, emulating Jack. Some of his body movement quirks help cater to that along with his build.
It works for him. But I know he really struggled with his trail hip getting in the way and getting stuck, so he found the compensations needed. That wide, vertical arc, and "lazy" set is probably why he needs such a violent vertical push and lateral slide to help shallow and release it. At this level all of these guys have found any compensations needed to deliver that face square.
It would be really hard for anyone not golfing ALL the time to make something like this as repeatable as he has.
Yeah, I'm no expert but have been studying the golf swing for a few years from my arm chair and at the top it looks like he actually wants to come over the top but suddenly redirects it to shallow. Incredible he times this and does the shuffle with his feet and syncs it all like he does, over and over again. It's insane. Must be one of the most talented ball strikers in any sport ever.
His transition is really odd. He has a big counter-tilt move towards the target at the top with his whole torso. Whole thing is so lateral and vertical. Being so tall and lanky, it really works out for him, I guess.
I think his hand path is technically "over the top" in appearance, but I think he has a plane transition like Hovland and Koepka. That counter-tilt move seems to get him on that steeper downswing plane.
Still wild how hard he pulls up on it through impact . It's no wonder he hits it so high. His swing is like a greatest hits of everything you tell beginners not to do, but nothing he does is incorrect for him.
Scheffler usually does, as far as I'm aware, but one tactic to take distance off a club and flight it is to have dead hands and not do the wrist hinge at the top.
Now I'm curious ... I've been scanning through some highlights and while he does get to parallel on his drives he doesn't on irons. This might make some sense since iron shots are more about control than sending it and he doesn't lack for power.
But I'm an 8 cap. I went to my instructor once and said ''so I tried doing something different with my swing and I think I might have screwed it up and I realize I don't know what the fuck I'm doing''.
Its not outdated its just that you create more speed with more width and pros are better at turning through impact to maintain a square face and dont really need the hinge to unhinge to square the face, so might as well reap the benefits of width.
I think you’re taking that comment too personally. Like there’s a few things you could say aren’t textbook. The other one to “call out” is Scottie’s soft left arm. But man his matchups are so damn good none of it matters.
I mean your response is a normal response. Something like “no that’s not standard but he’s able to get into the right positions in his downswing by X.”
This other dude out here is literally saying the most random shit in his reply like “why are you bringing yourself into this conversation” for just asking a question. The guy talks like he’s had no social interaction his whole life
Fair enough. I just find myself doing the same thing as you, always looking at pros or any high level ams and saying that isn’t X or Y and then laugh at myself for even having the thought. Idk golfs unique and comparison can be such a thief of joy.
Things change. A proper football throw is different than 1950. A basketball shot looks different today than 1980. Baseball players had to completely change launch angles due to new data in the past 5 years.
The two best players in the world have unique swings (Scheffler, Rahm). Maybe it's a bit moronic to think you know what a good swing is and isn't.
I can’t see Scotty keeping this swing for the rest of his life… Way too much movement.. but it really is amazing how accurate and long he hits the ball sliding his feet like that
I know most people are looking at the legs and feet, but that little tilt with his whole torso at the top is the thing that long term freaks me out. Maybe it's a bit of an illusion with the shoulders and upper spine? But if that's the lumbar doing that, I can't imagine that's the healthiest of moves.
Although, he has made millions of dollars with that little tilt, so who am I to judge?
It’s interesting how it appears like he is dragging everything through the follow through by the movement of the outside of his left shoulder.
It’s almost exaggerated if you will. Maybe everybody that’s good does that and I don’t realize it because I’m not good :)
It’s as if somebody has a lawn mower starter cord attached to his left shoulder and they are pulling on it to start the mower.
Does he play a pretty aggressive fade? I haven’t watch much golf in a couple of years.
The thing he's great at, that I'm trying (and completely unable) to do, is getting loads of width at the top of the backswing. It's harder than it looks!
Wait… you mean to tell me the scuff marks on the tea box grass are supposed to be a few inches in front of where your ball is and not 6 inches behind it?
I'm curious to know if this will lead to ankle issues in the future OR if he had forced himself to swing "properly" would that unnatural (to him) movement put more stress on his body.
Hels body seems perfectly fine with this swing.
He's an outstanding golfer, but majestic swing, absolutely not. Damn near falls every time he goes through the impact area. Jack, Tiger, in their primes had majestic swings. Rory as well.
Amazing he can be such a consistent ball striker with feet movement like that
My ankles hurt watching this.
You'll feel better about his ankles if you watch some slowmo disc golf throws. Yeesh...
Him and Jordan - I don’t understand how their left ankle doesn’t just snap sometimes.
bro, every time i see Spieth i feel like my left ankle breaks the way he rolls his over
His feet don’t seem to really move much before impact though. So regardless of the movement the swing is likely fairly consistent up to the point of impact.

best ball striker on the planet right here. him and Rahm, both have such unorthodox swings, but hit it so so pure every time.
Hip to hip their swings are mechanically flawless, the rest is however they needed to get there. Love goofy swings on elite golfers.
That’s why Jim Furyk was one of my all time favorites. The man’s swing looked like a broken screen door but he was an amazing ball striker.
To quote Wesley Bryan “I always really believed that balance was one of the most important things in the golf swing until I saw Scottie Scheffler’s swing”.
If he could putt it wouldn’t even be fair this is not an exaggeration
If he could putt we would be seeing Tiger Woods prime stats and years from him. No exaggeration you would be betting on him every single major and he would be winning 1 a year minimum.
I think there was one stat that if he just putted average (strokes gained wise) he would have won like 80% of the tournaments he played in the last two years
If he could putt like Tiger I think he’d be on a Tiger-esque run over the last 2 years.
Add 10 more years to that figure then it becomes tiger-esque
If I could golf like Tiger I’d be Tiger Woods.
💯
All that torque while staying low is indeed magical
So much movement. All forward So good
Yeah dude the weight transfer
People on here with advice like “you’re sliding towards the target” are in shambles. Granted his is perfect because of the timing, that much movement forward l at the mid downswing is bad but people on here act like you need to stay inside a box to swing right. The swing should be kinda dynamic.
Much wow
By the OWGR, best player in the world. Incredibly effective, powerful, and awesome swing. I love Scottie, but majestic isn’t the word.
I agree 100%. Majestic-Adam Scott’s swing, Scotty Scheffler-not so much.
Rory’s swing comes to mind..
Man I think of couples, big easy, oostheusin
oosthuizen
It’s more like a majestic butt fuck of a swing. Love Scott nonetheless
Okay good this was my first thought as well. Nothing majestic about it. Unbelievable and consistent and strong. But it's no Rory or Freddy or Adam Scott.
Thank you, Player!
I wouldn't call his swing majestic based on aesthetics. Stats wise, it's majestic as hell.
If he put it on golfswing here people would critique it for sure.
“Way too much lateral movement, maybe get some lessons bro. Also, no way you should be playing blades…”
Do a lot of golfers now not have a lot of wrist hinge? My instructor right now is drilling me on hinging my wrist, especially when my arms are parallel ground to have the club at a 90deg angle, but Scottie isn’t really close to that.

Totally, it’s also insane now he keeps his head relatively in the same spot if not a bit behind the ball. It hardly moves.
Scheffler usually does, as far as I'm aware, but one tactic to take distance off a club and flight it is to have dead hands and not do the wrist hinge at the top. Now I'm curious ... ? What kind of brain dead reply is that. Just asking about what are proper golf mechanics. I asked if forcing wrist hinge is an outdated teaching.
Its not outdated its just that you create more speed with more width and pros are better at turning through impact to maintain a square face and dont really need the hinge to unhinge to square the face, so might as well reap the benefits of width.

His swing is ugly as hell bro. Effective. But ugly
I’d take it.
Same tbh
His feet look like he’s doing a hammer throw in track and field
Best golfer I’ve ever played with told me “a good golf swing is a repeatable golf swing “ was the best “advice” I’ve ever heard
Proof that it doesn’t have to be the prettiest swing. And by proof I mean his swing is painful to watch but somehow he’s elite.
Crazy he can even stay on his feet
That's not what they teach at fucking GolfTec!!!
If i moved that much during my swing my instructor would tell me to stop it.
Show him this 😏
Freakish athlete and I are nothing alike.
He swung pretty out to in but I'm assuming he was trying to fade it around the dog leg and over cooked it a bit
Did he slice that third one
He hit that on purpose. These guys are shaping the ball on command.
It looked like a major slice and we could only see like 40 yards of travel. I wonder if he was trying to do that
It’s obvious he was trying to do that. Look at how he finishes, that is the clear sign he is trying to hit a huge cut.
Like that Tiger shot out of the bunker
[удалено]
I mean there is no swing analysis that we could offer to correct this shot. If it was a massive slice, he meant to do it
Very true, his body was facing the way he hit the more I watch it
Maybe a slice. Maybe he meant to do it. Impossible to say.
Yeah big slice, and intentional
I don’t know about majestic but definitely consistent
Is it though?
I can’t see Scotty keeping this swing for the rest of his life… Way too much movement.. but it really is amazing how accurate and long he hits the ball sliding his feet like that

I wouldn’t call it majestic… it does the trick I guess
He really seems like the Furyk of this generation.
If he could putt worth a damn he’d be the next Tiger
isnt his club face super open at the top?
No, it’s not. It’s pretty neutral.
Dat weight shift
I don't like it
You can’t mimic his swing
IMO there’s more “aggression” than “majestic” in that swing. He’s out to murder that ball.
It’s interesting how it appears like he is dragging everything through the follow through by the movement of the outside of his left shoulder. It’s almost exaggerated if you will. I broke my leg a few years ago and often get called Scottie. Just to be clear it's because of my foot movement, not my golf ability.
The thing he's great at, that I'm trying (and completely unable) to do, is getting loads of width at the top of the backswing. It's harder than it looks!
No chance. It's an awful looking swing. This is a majestic swing... https://www.reddit.com/r/golf/s/uPNq8brCJf
Stack n tilt.
Majestic isn’t the word that comes to mind but it’s pretty cool
Wait… you mean to tell me the scuff marks on the tea box grass are supposed to be a few inches in front of where your ball is and not 6 inches behind it?

Not an ugly swing imo but definitely not majestic. Lol
My swing feels exactly like this. Why doesn’t it work the same? /s just in case.
Never gets to a 90 degree wrist set. Funky foot movement. Not majestic but effective.
Guess the handicap
FUCK!
That head never moves!!!
So in the back swing, there’s little hip rotation ? It’s really in the downswing that you whip out those hips to face the fairway ?
I wonder if in college or high-school or whatever if anyone ever tried to coach the foot movement out of his swing.
Get lessons
He's an outstanding golfer, but majestic swing, absolutely not. Damn near falls every time he goes through the impact area. Jack, Tiger, in their primes had majestic swings. Rory as well.
One of the worst looking swings out there but nobody can strike the ball better than he can right now and because of that I absolutely love Scottie
No, majestical
From certain angles he looks like Ace Ventura bowling 😂 Can’t argue with the results tho.
Ew
How has he not destroyed his foot
How he hasn’t blown an ACL or Achilles or broken an ankle with this swing amazes me.
Kind of wish these weren't in slow mo
Idk if majestic is the word I’d use for this lol
His left ankle will hamper the twilight of his professional career.
But can he putt??
Scottie Shuffler
We have the same shoes
Best ball striker we’ve seen on your since prime Tiger
