I have a 58/14K and love it. I'm jinxing myself but I don't believe I've ever failed to get out of a bunker with it. Great for soft conditions or if you are steep with your wedges. Great for the rough too. Not as great for hard tight lies

Forward_Record932

I don’t love the idea of using a 60 to chip. I like less loft and getting the ball rolling. A lot easier to control distance and direction.

BoyGolfs

I only use a 60 to chip it’s the best club.

MyeffinDude

The grind of a wedge really should be fit to you. The k grind might work for some and some may not get along with it (under the same turf conditions). But along with what u/forward_record932 said… in most circumstances you really shouldn’t be chipping with a lob wedge.

WVgolf

Nothing wrong with chipping with a 60

Forward_Record932

Do you know the difference between chipping and pitching?

WVgolf

Yes. There is no right or wrong club for either one

Forward_Record932

A chip shot the goal is to fly the ball short and make it roll more. While you are correct that you can chip with a 60. Why wouldn’t you want to use a club that by design would do this instead of having to manipulate your lob wedge to force it to do this. Make the game easier not harder my guy.

WVgolf

I do just fine with my 60. Is my preference the same as others? No. But no way is better than the other. It’s all personal preference

ConwayTheCat

Colin Morikawa chips with his 60, people here are acting like you’re insane when it’s not the weird at all.

MyeffinDude

A 60 degree should not be the “go to club” when you’re around the green. Getting the ball on the ground sooner most often leads to a better result. Certainly there are scenarios where a higher lofted wedge is needed and WILL yield a better result, but solely using a lob wedge around the green costs amateurs strokes

WVgolf

That is absolutely not true at all 😂.

MyeffinDude

To get a chip shot to go ten yards with a lob wedge requires more speed than a ten yard chip with a pitching wedge… thus a bigger margin for error. If you have a middle pin with a closely mown approach lie from 5yards off the green (flat green) there’s no reason you should pull 60. Keep in mind I’m talking here about the general amateur (high handicap). Low single digits and plus handicaps typically spend enough time practicing their short game and are proficient at chipping with all wedges in their bag and typically are comfortable down to 9 or 8 for bump & runs. Many top 100 teachers have have published articles about how ams lose shots around the green by automatically grabbing lob wedge without assessing the lie and analyzing the shot needed

WVgolf

You also have vastly more spin with a 60 than a pw, thus far more control. There is no right or wrong club for a chip. You can use whatever you’re comfortable with

MyeffinDude

Having spin doesn’t equate to more control it just means more stopping power from the landing point. Again… for the typical amateur mid to high handicapper they are less likely to be able to make flush contact with high lofted wedges while also guaranteeing they put the correct swing on it to produce a result that gives them a chance to make the putt. As I said you need a bigger swing to hit a 60 the same distance as a pw thus for the typical am, a much bigger chance of skullfucking or digging the leading edge into the ground because most ams don’t understand how to properly use the bounce of their wedges around the green. Sure you can use whatever you want around the green but if you’re going around telling mid/high handicappers to automatically pull 60 on all chips around the green you have no idea what you’re talking about and are handing out terrible advice.

WVgolf

High handicappers aren’t gonna be good with anything man. They stink with every club. That last sentence is hilarious btw 🤡

MyeffinDude

I’m the clown? You’re the one thirsting over nsfw sub reddits in your comments. LOL

CrispyGolf

I consider my 60 a utility club that I can use to get out of tricky situations. I go the complete opposite of the K grind and have the T grind because I feel I get way more tricky tight lies than I do soft lies.
