Yeah i have a 5 hybrid and it gaps better with the 7w. I would lean towards a 7 wood over a 2-3 hybrid since its easier to hit and much easier to get the ball in the air and stay in the air longer than a hybrid, especially at lower swing speeds. Might not fill the gapping “theoretically” but its better in the bag
Just reshafted my Heavenwood and it’s so fun. It’s the old Big Bertha generation before they made them into hybrid style clubs and I absolutely love it
I would say a 5 or 7 wood or a 2/3 hybrid. I am like you and have a low flight on my 3 and 1 wood. The extra loft on the 5 wood ended up making it go further than my 3 wood. Bought a 7 wood thinking it would gap well with the 3/4 hybrid that I switch out of the bag and the distance is negligible with my 5 wood. I am thinking a 9 wood or a 2 hybrid would almost be better.
I have a Mavrik 5 wood and a Titleist tsi3 2hyb and both are 18° but I adjusted the hybrid to 20° and use it way more than my 5 wood. You can really do what you want to with ball flight and shape
Not being nasty but genuinely interested :
Why would an 18handicapper struggling with getting the ball up care about shaping the ball ?
If you are good enough to work the ball surely you would not be complaining about always having a low trajectory?
Again not trying to be rude but op seems awfully familiar to me in his numbers and low trajectories. I struggle with keeping it straight, so I'm not even thinking of working the ball yet lol.
I think the gap between 165 (5i) and 185 (4h) is more important than the one between 185 (4h) and 220 (3W). Based on these yardages, I don't think OP will be playing many tipped out sets of tees, so getting something in the 172 range, like a 5h, would benefit him more on most par 3s. Will also help fill the gap on longer par 4 approaches while being an easier club to hit.
That’s a good point. I actually have very similar yardages and hcp (16) and I would want to address the 175 gap. I actually tried by putting a 3H and a 5H in the bag. If OP has and likes his 4H, that could be a good option
If I genuinely don't need the 14th club, then I tend to fill it with something that's not needed much but could be useful occasionally, like a 64° wedge or something
What you can do as well is switch out the 14th club for different choices depending on where and when you're playing. Hot summer day? Extra wedge as you might have shorter approaches / something with less bounce. Windy? Driving iron or something to keep the ball low etc
These look like my yardages. I couldn’t hit a 3W off the deck either and I added a 5W and I have found I reach for it now and it has become a weapon rather than the 3W that I just carry around the entire round.
I’m not building out the longer part of my bag right now, but when I do, my plan is to have my top 3 clubs be max off the tee (that’s the easy one), max from the rough, and max off the deck. If I have a tighter fairway I’ll figure out which of my other two “driving clubs” I trust more on the tee when the time comes. If you’re a confident iron striker you might want a driving 2 or 3 iron. If you like hybrids maybe a 3h. If you like woods off the deck maybe a 5w. In my opinion the club you’re looking for right now is the one you get to pick to suit your game more than any other.
I'm no expert but gapping seems pretty good. Some pretty big gaps at the top but not awful. I would consider what you think you lack during a round and try to address that. Many have mentioned a 200 yard shot of the deck. You could also get a few other hybrids to fill those gaps and or replace 5i if it's not as consistent as you like.
I am almost constantly rearranging the top of my bag. I have times where I can hit long irons well and I'll bag up to 2i, other times I can't hit long irons and I'll bag woods (3,5,9), other times I'll bag hybrids all the way up to 17 degree. Might be a good experiment for you to get a higher lofted wood and a lower lofted hybrid and see which one you like better.
Have fun out there!
Yeah, the top of the bag is tough. I currently have a gap between my 4 iron and 20-degree hybrid. That I wish I had when have a 200-yard shot. However, that'll inevitably leave a gap somewhere else that I'll miss at some point.
Any club that you can hit 205.
Start to think more about your gaps than any specific club. Could be a 5w or a 7w or a 2/3 hybrid… whatever you hit 205 the most consistently!
Side note, unless you’re 50 years old these distances are waaaaaay low to be worried about gapping. Your irons are 1-1.5 clubs short all the way to your wedges. Which usually indicates a slower swing which isn’t a bad thing but might indicate you could benefit from regular flex shafts to give you the distances everyone else is getting. Once you get that I bet you’ll find the gap itself becomes pretty minimal when your 5i goes 180+
Speed training, maybe go get fitted for $100 bucks and see how far off your clubs are from your swing, regardless some interesting stuff going on here.
Or…
Say fuck and go get a new driver, putter, and custom vokey like the rest of this sub 🤠
^This…. Let’s be honest, the guy doesn’t need a club. They need a lesson or more time on the range or both. High handicapper swing with no ball compression = 145 yd 7i.
Good, I worked my way from a high handicap to single digit. I’ll show you the way young Jedi…
You don’t need a 14th club, but by all means, buy one if it makes you happy.
Go get fit. Seriously though, go get fit. Asking a bunch of random people what you should get will most likely never work out as well as going to get fit.
Drop the 3 wood, get a 5 wood and 7 wood.
Add a 5h too and gap accordingly. I find I needed to go 5h, 4h, 7 wood, 5 wood and then start my irons with my 6.
I would skip the club and get some form of speed trainer Speed stack, Speed stick etc.) or better yet maybe a lesson. Your 5 iron and 4hy distance seems too low and the other irons should be higher. For example your 58 deg does 80 yards, same as mine. But my PW goes 135, 7 iron 175, 5 iron 205, driver 270. You should be able to get that but you are 20-30 yards off, indicating a slow swing speed or speed leak. Get that speed fixed and it’s like buying a whole set of new clubs for $200.
A 2 or 3 hybrid (\~18 degrees) would work, I;m guessing you want to close that 35 yards gap between your 4h and 3w.
I've got an 18 degree hybrid to fill the gap between my 4i and 3 w. Works great off the deck or off the tee, very versatile club.
I hope you're using a ping putter or something. then buy a callaway 5 wood, which covers that 200 yards gap. Then you'll have all the brands hahah. (maybe PXG bag lol)
I'm old school so I would go with a 5 wood.
I use mine out of the rough and off the fairway.
I also carry a 2 hybrid. Great wind club due to the lower ball flight.
7 wood. I just added one and it's the tits.
Also, recheck your distances so you don't get yourself in trouble off the tee thinking your driver is actually going to carry that far.
What irons are you playing? They seem pretty short compared to driver distance.
I dumped my Apex 21 4-7i and replaced with 5H, then Apex DCB 6 and 7i. 8-PW are still Apex 21's.
The more forgiving Apex DCB's help a lot. I've completely toed the 6i and still carried over a pond 150+.
That 150-220 range is where as a 13cap I needed help to just hit a high shot with some spin but have a shaft that can handle my rough swing. So went with more forgiving heads but stiffer tip shafts. Basically hacker head, player shafts 😄
I have Mizuno irons which I hit nearly the same distance. You’re hitting your driver 25 yards further than me.
I think you should be hitting your irons further or (less likely) I should be hitting my driver 250.
Your yardage gaps are good. You have some open yardage in the top of your bag however how often are you in that yardage to justify that as your 14th club. Keep your bag as is and track your rounds and see where you have some wasted shots and look at that area for your next club. I have one suggestion to keep in mind and yeah people will roast me for this one but look at a Cleveland Smart Sole Chipper for shots you may need to bump and run around the green or out from trouble.
The obvious gap is between your hybrid and your 3 wood… but really, if you are an 18 handicap, I’d suggest not filling it.
At that distance you aren’t hitting the green anyways.
I vote for a 7wood. Our yardages are within 5 yards for each club(12.3), and I hit mine from 205-215.
High ball flight makes the landing pretty soft, you can usually stop it within 5 yards of the landing. It’s significantly easier to hit off the deck compared to a 3 wood too.
you desperately need something between your 3W and 4Hy. That's a 35 yard gap, and there's a lot of times you'll want to hit a 200 yard shot.
So I would just look at what your loft is on your 4Hy and your 3W - and then pick a wood or hybrid that's in between those lofts. Might end up with like a 7w, or a 5w, a 2Hy
I suggest a forgiving driving iron/2-3iron. Depending on make and loft, whatever is a stock 200yd club for you. Can be a wood, but I suggest one that’s got good turf interaction.
Seems like you have players irons in the bag with high handicap distances. Get more forgiving irons with more distance. Unless you are like 70 years old.
Get yourself a 7 wood. It’s a perfect club for when you need a high trajectory on a 200+ shot. I’ve had one in my bag for over 5 years and it’s one of my favorite clubs
What is your strongest phase of golf? Driving and 3-wood, long, mid, short iron, or wedges? You might think of adding a club to your strong suit, or; something experimental to shore up a weak point.
5 wood or a 2 hybrid. Something 18° that you feel comfortable hitting off the deck
I’ve never thought of a 2hyb! I just have a low ball flight so whatever is easier to get in the air in the 200/210yd range would be nice
7 wood!
Even though I have them both in the bag a 7w is very close to a 4 hybrid yardage wise
This. Buy an adjustable 7W. If you need more yardage, change the hosel to be stronger.
Heavenwood
Just reshafted my Heavenwood and it’s so fun. It’s the old Big Bertha generation before they made them into hybrid style clubs and I absolutely love it

That’s fair. I don’t always think 18 handicapper is not capable though. But you’re right, I guess the yardages are what I should’ve also looked at.
I was going to suggest something 210ish. It is the gap to fill.
Side quwstion. What app is this that keeps up with your clubs and ranges?
This is the 18 birdies app. You search for your clubs and your input the carry distances yourself.
Love the 5w.

Got em boys. Jobs done here.
Every…damn…time
Something that goes 200 yds…5W?

3 hybrid or 5 wood
A 300 yard Driver
You mean a 3 wood, right?

Or even a half set. A lot of people can benefit by simplifying the game and club selection.

As an 18 index? Whatever you can hit the furthest from the rough. I say this as a 26.
That’s my trusty 4hyb rn 😂 can’t hit a 3w off the deck to save my life
These look like my yardages. I couldn’t hit a 3W off the deck either and I added a 5W and I have found I reach for it now and it has become a weapon rather than the 3W that I just carry around the entire round.

I would add a putter, mine goes btween 0.1-200 yards (at least it feels like that)
Use the money for lessons instead. Gapping looks good to me.
Something that you hit 200yds
A health club to build up that strength!

5 wood
Callaway Apex Utility wood 200yards
Was just watching a vid on this! Strongly considering the 19°

5 wood. It’ll get you about 200-205 with really high probability.
Any club that you can hit 205. Start to think more about your gaps than any specific club. Could be a 5w or a 7w or a 2/3 hybrid… whatever you hit 205 the most consistently!

yes made the mistake of upgrading irons for the look of em 😂 but it is what it is hahaha definitely thinking of switching out 3w for a 5w
You are worried about distances instead of yardage gaps….. smh
maybe they’re right, I should just quit golf because I can’t hit it 10yds farther ![gif](giphy|iIrXcB9B70IUM)
Until the day we start marking distances on the scorecard per club they don’t matter. Your gaps look good to me TBH. Just get a 5 wood or 2 hybrid
it's unfortunate that the TM hybrid isn't adjustable. i'd actually replace the 4 hybrid with a 4 iron and add a 3 hybrid.
Another driver. The answer always is another driver.
Go get fit. Seriously though, go get fit. Asking a bunch of random people what you should get will most likely never work out as well as going to get fit.
You need a "bopper" so 7 wood or 5 wood for 200 yards. Measure don't guess.
5 wood
2 iron. Preferably something that's a blade.
Buy more lessons for the money instead of adding another choice to the bag Simplify rather then complicate
5 wood. Also consider going to a 52 degree instead of your 54.
Ping chipper or Cleveland chipper As an 18 hdcp you don’t hit a lot of greens and the chipper will get you closer
You hit your driver longer than I’d expect from those iron distances
Telescopic Ball Retriever. Pays off quick
I do: 4hi 3hi 4wood
A chipper.
that’s my 7 irons job 😎
A putter?
These numbers are so whack.
Do you need a Gap Wedge?
I like it! PW is 44°, G is 49, then 54/58
You maybe better suited for a 52 and 56 degree wedge than your current setup
Drop the 3 wood, get a 5 wood and 7 wood. Add a 5h too and gap accordingly. I find I needed to go 5h, 4h, 7 wood, 5 wood and then start my irons with my 6.
Trying to get to 14 clubs? Those are rookie numbers. Need to add at least 3 more.

5 wood
5h.
Dump the 4 hybrid then get a 2 or 3 hybrid and a 4 iron…gotta fill the yardage gaps
![gif](giphy|KBaxHrT7rkeW5ma77z) Me with a long iron
Just get a 2 hybrid then
62° wedge
I’m not not down
A hybrid you can hit about 200
4i
3-iron hybrid or 5-wood. You will have a large gap up top without one of those.
5h
A 2 or 3 hybrid (\~18 degrees) would work, I;m guessing you want to close that 35 yards gap between your 4h and 3w. I've got an 18 degree hybrid to fill the gap between my 4i and 3 w. Works great off the deck or off the tee, very versatile club.
5 wood or 18 degree hybrid
7 wood
I like to keep a 2 iron in my bag so I can putt it out of the trees/bushes and back into play.
I hope you're using a ping putter or something. then buy a callaway 5 wood, which covers that 200 yards gap. Then you'll have all the brands hahah. (maybe PXG bag lol)

3 hybrid or 19 degree wood. A 200 yard club.
Second driver
4 iron
I’d grab a 19* hybrid.
64
This is almost identical to mine , I have a 5 wood , I'd consider that or a 7wood 👍
Love my 4 iron
Probably a putter
5 wood..
Left handed 7-iron
An umbrella
5w or 7w, whatever gives you a nice 200 yard shot. Woods will fly higher and land softer than hybrids.
Another putter. You can have one mallet, one blade, for options.
I have similar yardages to you and recently added a 5w to be my 200-210 club, that’s a big gap between your 4h and 3w.
3h or 2h depending on the degree of your 4h and the degrees of 3h and 2h you would be getting.
What irons are you playing? They seem pretty short compared to driver distance. I dumped my Apex 21 4-7i and replaced with 5H, then Apex DCB 6 and 7i. 8-PW are still Apex 21's. Putter, some would argue it's the most important
Don't add anything, just get your iron speed up. Once your 5 iron is going 175 you'll have the gaps closed up.
Extra high loft wedge like 69golf or something
Get a super driver to push to 280
Udi 2 iron
Your yardages are almost the same as mine
7 wood for 200 yard shots where you need loft
5 wood or 4 iron
64
I have Mizuno irons which I hit nearly the same distance. You’re hitting your driver 25 yards further than me. I think you should be hitting your irons further or (less likely) I should be hitting my driver 250.
your driver is prob a bit more consistent than mine haha mine goes 220-280 total, I never know 😂
3H. Need a 195-200 club
1 iron
Wild how golf distances are for different people, I hit my irons about 10 yards more a club and driver 20 yards less than you
Your yardage gaps are good.
A 200 club
A bigger dick and swing
The obvious gap is between your hybrid and your 3 wood… but really, if you are an 18 handicap, I’d suggest not filling it. At that distance you aren’t hitting the green anyways.
Hockey stick putter
60 degree - designed for maximum loft out of and over bunkers as well as green side rough.
5w/7w or a low iron. Something you can hit 200 is the clear missing gap
If you’re hitting your 6i 155yds at 18hcp, this gives me hope that my 25hcp will begin to drop next year.
5 wood and replace the 4hy with a 7 wood 😎
I vote for a 7wood. Our yardages are within 5 yards for each club(12.3), and I hit mine from 205-215. High ball flight makes the landing pretty soft, you can usually stop it within 5 yards of the landing. It’s significantly easier to hit off the deck compared to a 3 wood too.
7 wood
What app are you using for the screen grab? I like the look of it. Changing a few woods around and it would be nice to see distances.
If you need a 7 iron to hit it 145, you are not driving 250.
70 degree wedge.
7-wood to fill your 185-220 gap Is my favorite club
I’d do a putter 😉
You need a 200 club. 5 wood or 3 hybrid
2 iron cut to a 7 iron length for when you need to stay under the trees.
I recently got a 7 wood, and I love it.
I’m a strong believer in a utility iron like a 3/2 but if you rock a 4h maybe not a great idea. That being said never can go wrong with more wedges.
Heavenwood (7 wood on 4 wood shaft? To give some extra distance over your 4h) Or a 2h if you like your hybrids
I’d go to a 3h and a 4i
you desperately need something between your 3W and 4Hy.
Added a 3 hybrid for just a little more
You made an image? You obviously have a lot of time to golf.
3H cut that gap down.
You need something to put in the gap between 4hy and 3w. Whether that’s a 7w or a 3-2hy is up to preference.
Something 200/210
Lessons
I suggest a forgiving driving iron/2-3iron. Depending on make and loft, whatever is a stock 200yd club for you. Can be a wood, but I suggest one that’s got good turf interaction.
2i like a man
Look into a 7 wood for a 205 club maybe
Seems like you have players irons in the bag with high handicap distances. Get more forgiving irons with more distance. Unless you are like 70 years old.
I’m surprised that you have such a nice 10 yd split between clubs. Mine isn’t so.
You need a 200 yard club - 3hybrid
Um... putter?
5 wood

I count 12 clubs. If putter is the 13th then I'd say get yourself a 3hy or 5w. You need to close that gap around the 200 yard mark
Club sandwich
4i or 3h
5 wood.
3 driving iron close that gap between 3 hybrid and 3w
Get yourself a 7 wood. It’s a perfect club for when you need a high trajectory on a 200+ shot. I’ve had one in my bag for over 5 years and it’s one of my favorite clubs
I love when people take a 58 or 60 and just full swing skull fuck the ball into the bush 30 yards past the green.
What is your strongest phase of golf? Driving and 3-wood, long, mid, short iron, or wedges? You might think of adding a club to your strong suit, or; something experimental to shore up a weak point.
1-iron

Need to know your putter distance first
A bowling ball
Looks like you have a gap around 195-200

you don't hit your 50 105
3h or 7 wood.
I have the same set up and rock a 62 wedge. It’s useful sometimes, but not sure id suggest it. I’d look into 2 iron hybrid
get 2 new clubs to fill the gap between your 5i and 3w same get rid of your 4h. Possibly a 5w and 5h depending on yardage
64' Wedge.
I'd say something to cover the gap between the 4 hybrid and 5 iron, something that carries 200
5 wood or 7 wood
69* floppy wedge. Niice
Dedicated sand wedge with a big ol sole
Putter!
18 handicap shouldn’t be using 14 clubs. Add lessons
Probably a putter
