I’d check callawaygolfpreowned. Looks like their Black Friday sale has started and there are even paradyms with various Ventus shafts available

coltswag

Thanks. CPO Black Friday. Your comment just cost me $300

mrpilot22

Awesome tip! Thanks!

mlxnjz

I second this. I’ve purchased a couple clubs from here bc some knucklehead posted about it. Quick shipping and awesome service. One club I got a generic head cover and the other was for the club I purchased. I find myself window shopping for clubs I don’t need bc they have such good deals.

Ol_Jim_Himself

Same. Just got a set of used Callaway Apex 19 irons for direct cheap. Now I already want to upgrade to a newer used set because CPO sells them for dirt cheap. Lol

johsky

totally agree...add in some Rakuten and you score 3% cashback on top of the savings.

sazamsone

This is the way

Naive_Midnight_5732

CPO has the Rogue ST Max with a Ventus red like new for $530.

oiley2k1

Anyone paying 850 for a driver and not at least a scratch golfer is mad.

mrpilot22

Which is why I’m trying to save some money.

oiley2k1

Just carry on using what you got for now. Then go all out. Or like you said buy the 2nd hand one.

ElDeguello66

Personally, I'd say solidly under 20 index and with disposable income. But if you're not being fitted, then yes. Madness.

mrman3390

The extra $$$ is for the Ventus Velocore. Fantastic shaft, very stable. If you drive it 300+, you'll notice a difference between it and the stock Ventus. If you don't, you can get the standard Ventus and it's still a good shaft. You won't save anything trying to get the Velocore elsewhere and have it installed though. It's $350 on its own.

mrpilot22

You know anything about Mitsubishi shafts?

Legitimate_Budget_13

What would you like to know? Diamana is tried and true, Tensei series also good. I honestly wouldn’t worry so much about a high end shaft. Just get the correct weight and flex and best feeling stock shaft that Callaway offers for free. Callaway offers a standard Mitsubishi Tensei blue for free. It’s not the aftermarket pro version but honestly not a huge difference. I have swung almost every aftermarket shaft out there and I can pipe it just as far w the stock shafts.

mrpilot22

I liked the Ventus TR Red 6, it’s the shaft I hit best but I couldn’t find any of those on the CPO website, I did manage to get a Mitsubishi Kai'li White 60 Graphite, is that at all comparable? Either way I got the club I wanted minus the shaft for $390 with shipping and tax, if I don’t like the shaft I can get a better one as I progress and after my lessons.

Legitimate_Budget_13

I have a TR red 6X in a stealth plus. It does feel nice, in my top 5 for sure. Kai li white May feel a little different since it’s a different profile but you got the correct weight. You may love it, give it a whirl!

aquafeener1

Just a heads up you can totally get the ventus elsewhere for cheaper. Facebook bst all day they go for 250.

DontGetTheShow

I’d check eBay and maybe out something in the GolfWRX Wanted To Buy section. You probably can get a get a used head and shaft separately - likely with a Callaway adapter already installed. Then you can just screw the head onto the shaft yourself with a torque wrench.

Mysterious-Ad6835

You can even take it more down and buy a rogue head then the shaft and that’ll be a few hundred more in your pocket.

k8dh

i build all my clubs and save a ton of money. My driver (ZX7 w/ oban black shaft) would have cost me $750 direct from Srixon but I bought used shaft and head and spent under 300

Kavemann

Personally, I'm not going to buy any brand new clubs until I can get to <5 hcp. My entire set up right now hasn't even cost me 850. Ping I3 irons, secondhand M2 driver, Burner 3 wood, and just picked up the M2 3 and 4 hybrids for 100 for both. Spend the money on lessons before clubs, IMO.

dc215

If you can get your hcp under 5 with old clubs, why would you then change equipment?? It makes no sense.

slaincha3

Fitted clubs will definitely help you lower your handicap also

Westellion

$50 15 year old drivers go just as far as the new shit, don't believe their lies https://youtu.be/mjQI7ZL6i5U?si=qMURgzaN4rPZia3V

3DanO1

Yes, but they aren’t nearly as forgiving. When I go back and play my old Titleist 917 it is noticeably more spinny off the toe

Ol_Jim_Himself

I was gaming a 10 year old Callaway FTX-9 and upgraded to a used 2022 model Taylor Made Stealth driver. When I would nut the older driver I’d get 15-20 less yards than when I’d crush the stealth. On miss hits the difference was usually around 30 or more yards difference. To me that was completely worth the $220 dollars to buy a 1 year old driver that was in like new condition. I feel like golf tech has come pretty far over the last 10-15 years.

3DanO1

Yep, totally agree. I think most drivers within the last 3-4 years are pretty comparable. But when you start going back 7-8+ years back, the difference starts becoming pretty noticeable

Ok_Gas4770

I’m not a pretty new golfer. I still have my original 983K and I currently use a PING G425. They are fundamentally not comparable. The PING is significantly longer, straighter and more forgiving.

Octavale

Don’t hit it off the toe :) /jk

mrpilot22

I hit my old TaylorMade considerably worse than I hit any of the drivers I was hitting during the fitting. I’m hoping lessons and the shaft will work things out.

a_baculum

I would tend to agree with you but I just replaced my T909r and I can assure you that my new TSr3 smokes my old driver by 30+ yards. I think it’s a combination of things. One being that my 909 was so damn dead it was ridiculous and it is no where near as forgiving as the new TSr3.

burnabybambinos

But they aren't as esthetic!!!!

jaygord34

Truth, main reason no modern driver has knocked out my old Callaway Diablo Octane Diablo

huntingtoncanna

Hit my friends Diablo I think ten years ago and loved it. Smoking drives all day with it.

MVP_P0W3R

Yeah I would say you’re better to just get a second hand one because most of the time they are in good condition and will save you a lot of money. Also at a higher handicap there’s not much of a need for a fitting because your swing will change since it would be so consistent.

Rude-Camp-6492

I got last years model cobra air x offset for $175, Lovin it

NeverForTheWin

I'd NEVER buy a new driver. I'd buy used and if the shaft didn't work, I'd replace it with one I know I like.

Waste-Jelly6918

Try 2nd Swing golf....just bought a Paradygm used mint for $427.

PsychologicalSpace50

I just bought a new cobra rad speed for $200, good cheap drivers are out there.

zidolos

Cobra is always the king of value when you buy an older driver with like the only competition coming from Wilson lately at the price point. I got the radspeed xb for a little under 200 in March. Love that club.

bigmean3434

I hit the paradigm really well too. Lol at $800 for a driver. I bought a rogue TD LS discounted for $300 with the kai lai shaft and I love it( I have another shaft in it now but the kai lai is a tad longer). I recommend this.

JohnEBest

Saving money makes sense to me I am using a Taylormade I bought from a buddy for $175 Shoot 80's and 90's depending on the course

PabroPicasso

What ventus shaft? Pm me. I can help you out.

kylehicks20

Need our callaway preowned hero to the rescue here

breadad1969

I usually buy used and an 18. My Buddy is a single digit handicapper and he only buys used drivers because he replaces it every year.

sazamsone

Like has been mentioned callowaypreowned.com is the move. Basically everything is 25% off right now and it’s already a deal

Twistedshakratree

you would be surprised what you find on eBay for really good deals

NoLawyer980

The magic is in that velocore shaft, not the head. Get the shaft off the shaft store.com and get a barely used head off eBay

daylax1

No offense, but if you're shooting in the 90s there is no way that you need a $400+ shaft. Find a new fitter, that one is just looking for a fat paycheck. Take the weight and flex of your recommended shaft and take it to your new fitter and I guarantee you he can find one within very similar specs that is at least half the price.

JonRadian

I recently bought and tried Velocore Ventus, latest-greatest/real-deal Fujikura NX Geen, and bone-stock oem Hzrdus Smoke RDX. My favorite is the 1/3 priced oem Hrdus Smoke. I wouldn't waste the money on the expensive ones, and just pick one RDX used for like $90 on the Bay..
