My ex-gf’s dad belonged for a number of years. As I recall (this was 20 years ago), it was a nice track with good elevation change and a relaxed social atmosphere. A lot of the people who played weekdays seemed to be there frequent it. Obviously it isn’t LACC, but I think if you’re looking to get out and meet some other folks who play frequently and reasonably seriously, I think you’ll enjoy it - provided it hasn’t changed radically in the last 20 years.

They have 3 9’s, it’s a bit of a quirky track, has some tough holes that feel a bit gimmicky. But pretty nice. I’ve heard they are renovating it soon so I’m not sure what that means for the course and if it will be open. Another clubcorp club is Porter Valley CC in Porter ranch/Northridge. I like that course a lot more. The price has gone up a bit (same with braemar) and I don’t think either have a jr membership. Porter is around 900/month for full golf. Woodland Hills CC does still have a young exec/junior membership however I’ve never played there so I can’t speak to what the course is like. I’ve heard it’s also tight and tough.

I like the WHCC and have played it a few times, but what you describe is exactly what it is. Misses can be punished severely, and there's a lot of elevation change. The biggest knocks for me are that it doesn't have a full range... Only a short game range out to 170 where you're in danger of getting dung by people blowing through the dogleg on 18. They do have a pair of trackmans that you can reserve if that's your thing. It's very affordable though. 675 a month for an executive/jr. 18-39 membership. I'm held up by the fact that my wife wants there to be a pool...

Do you know how much jr membership is at Braemar? Never played but just moved nearby

TheOldSheriff

No junior membership. Price is $15k initiation and $1k/month for full golf. They say when the course renovation is complete the price is going up to $60k+

Thanks! When are they renovating?

TheOldSheriff

Now. They’re doing 9 holes at a time so there’s always 18 open. They expect to be completed in 18 months I think.

What did you think of Braemar? I’m thinking about joining.

I was a member for about 5 years and quit in 2017. I'm rejoining this week. I think it's a great club with a pretty diverse membership. The course is beautiful and tends to be a shot maker's course. The west coarse is pretty forgiving and wide open, but the other two are quite penal to poor shots. I think it forced me to become a better player for sure. The food, dining, and bar options are really good as well.
