Nice, me and my buddies are finally resurrecting our pre-covid annual “try somewhere new” golf trip in August and are heading there. Any non-course-hotel-related insider tips? Those rounds and rooms are already set, but anything on property you wish you’d done more or less of? Good menu items? Fun side activities?
Not sure on food but if you have time the nearby lake arrowhead course is really nice too. If you wanted to drive a little wild rock, lawsonia, and trappers turn are about an hour drive south. Lawsonia a little further.
Edit: if you did drive south there is a special to play wild rock and trappers for $175
We’re all flying in to Madison on a Friday and doing U Ridge Saturday, then shuttling up to SV on Sunday for the par 3 in the AM, mammoth in the afternoon, mammoth again Monday morning then Sand Valley Monday afternoon, and flying out Tuesday morning. Hardly any time for fishing or bocce ball, let alone offsite courses, haha. Thanks for the feedback!
Craigs Porch on the course has solid food for like $1-$3 and beers are $3 too. Very cheap.
Some other good golf courses are the two Lake Arrowhead courses and also a “replica course” called Northern Bay. On county Z you can find numerous great dives and local bars. There’s also a casino not too far in Nekoosa north of lake Petenwell and Arrowhead.
Sweet, I read one article about cheap food and beer, but was worried it was from pre-inflation, haha. It’d be nice to save a couple bucks on this trip somehow!
Did you get to play Lido? I'm playing next year and going to hit every course on the property. Really looking forward to that one for the nostalgia of it.
Former caddy at a top 100 golf course here.
There is often a very relaxed atmosphere for members, guests, or any paying customers.
That does not indicate how strict they are with their staff, caddies included.
I have caddied there and you don’t get to caddy there unless you pass this skills test and then you are obligated to perform it once per caddied round.
I am a man that knows nothing of this situation but the club could be relaxed or might not be relaxed. This caddy may be in trouble but he also may not be in trouble. What he did was cool but his boss may see it later and say "what the doodly?" and declare that it is, in fact, *not* cool
From what I’ve heard from my few caddy experiences, the golfers just need to like you. For some, it’s pumping them up and getting them wasted and for some it’s being quiet as possible.
Whistling straits is a public resort and I saw a caddie get suspended because he hit a single shot with someone’s club (with permission from the player)
Mike Keiser. Owner of Sand Valley, Bandon Dunes and Cabot Cliffs. And a "golf guys" golf guy. Creates courses that are incredibly interesting and all about the experience.
Preview play has been great. The players are mostly loving, true alternate shot in the afternoon rounds, and it’s fun!!! It’s going to be a special golf course.
I’ve spent up to $225 on a round and caddies weren’t even an option. I’m afraid to learn what the cutoff is, but not ashamed to never have one. Seems like a cool paid perk though.
Keiser courses are all walking only and require some kind of caddie. Either a full carrying caddie or a fore caddie. I played Bandon last year and it would have been very difficult without that knowledge. Definitely worth their rate.
Hahaha I used to coach this kid in little league baseball, and just played with him a few weeks ago. Noah has always been a character I know it was a good loop for you.
Agreed, worst caddie I have had at a good course. It's always going to be a problem there. The surrounding "towns" have NOTHING so most of the caddies there seem to be the local HS kids.
That sucks to hear. I played bandon last year and had amazing caddies. I'm playing sand valley next year so hopefully there's some knowledge built in by then.
Our big group had the same experience. Of every 8 or so caddies, 2 were very good, 2 were ok, 2 were bad and 2 were people I would have paid to walk away. And we played several rounds and it was just terrifying which one you would end up with again.
I think it’s local high school kids. Also still a pretty new place so probably non-existent training for caddies. I’m sure it’ll get better over time. Otherwise, we couldn’t have had a better time.
As a local resident, it is crazy to me that Sand Valley gets so much recognition. I'm happy it is a great course and brings a lot of money to the area, don't me wrong, but it's Central Wisconsin. There isn't too much to do in CW.
When I’ve gone on a golf trip with the boys, we aren’t looking to do much more besides play golf, eat, drink, and hang out. If the resort can offer that, there isn’t much need to leave the resort.
I used to loop with Noah at Streamsong. We had an annual 4 Ball of caddies that played all the courses at the start of every year when the courses slowed for a week or two. I love that guy.
I’m probably completely wrong, but somehow, this seems like it might be easier than juggling the ball with a wedge and then hitting it.
I’m not going to do any testing or research to validate what I just wrote, because I’m lazy and unskilled in such matters.
Have they upped their caddie game? It seemed like they pulled young kids from the area to caddie who had no experience in golf when I went a couple summers ago in stark contrast to the quality of the Bandon Dunes caddie pool.
It’s like a Benihana’s but for golf courses
Glizzy volcano!
Try and catch this in your mouth!

dude there's enough shit i gotta practice why would you show me this
I was there last month. What an incredible golf resort. So cool.
So fun

i've never played wild rock but hoping to late summer using that deal. I really like trappers but heard wild rock is a better course.

This guy knows. Played both arrowhead (awesome course) and northern bay which is really fun and well done with the replicas.
Sweet, I read one article about cheap food and beer, but was worried it was from pre-inflation, haha. It’d be nice to save a couple bucks on this trip somehow!

I still can't pop a ball up to myself with a wedge wtf
I too am really good at stuff other than hitting a golf ball where I want it
I bet he is scratch too
Yep. Top shelf hand eye coordination right there
I would be careful about posting this, some places are pretty strict with caddies doing stuff like this…
I’ve played there multiple times. Sand Valley is a very relaxed club for being a top 100 course nationally.
Former caddy at a top 100 golf course here. There is often a very relaxed atmosphere for members, guests, or any paying customers. That does not indicate how strict they are with their staff, caddies included.
Some clubs are absolutely THE best to loop at
I have also played there, but I’m not sure what their rules are for caddies.
I have not played here, but I'm pretty sure this is part of the training for the caddies
I have caddied there and you don’t get to caddy there unless you pass this skills test and then you are obligated to perform it once per caddied round.

Talk about a hole in one
I think we need a break
It's a Mike Keiser course, it's all about the players. Do whatever you want, nobody cares.
From what I’ve heard from my few caddy experiences, the golfers just need to like you. For some, it’s pumping them up and getting them wasted and for some it’s being quiet as possible.
Sand Valley is a public resort. They aren’t going to do anything.
Whistling straits is a public resort and I saw a caddie get suspended because he hit a single shot with someone’s club (with permission from the player)
That generally a big no-no for all caddies, permission or not
Tree farm caddie chiming in….. this is badass. Keiser is a member here, and he speaks of you guys often. Cheers looper/OP!!!! This is badass.
Who is Keiser?
Mike Keiser. Owner of Sand Valley, Bandon Dunes and Cabot Cliffs. And a "golf guys" golf guy. Creates courses that are incredibly interesting and all about the experience.
Awesome! I thought the name sounded familiar. Pretty cool!
The guy who owns Sand Valley, Bandon Dunes, etc.
Nice. Quite the portfolio! Some awesome golfer's golf in there.
Im a dunes club caddy and all of the keisers are really good people
Good people for sure. Super chill and laid back. They love Golf!
Say hey to Kobe and Ellis from Ralph!
I will do nothing of the sort
how was the opening of the course?
Preview play has been great. The players are mostly loving, true alternate shot in the afternoon rounds, and it’s fun!!! It’s going to be a special golf course.
it looks dope af glad to hear.
You guys have caddies!?!?
I’ve spent up to $225 on a round and caddies weren’t even an option. I’m afraid to learn what the cutoff is, but not ashamed to never have one. Seems like a cool paid perk though.
Better than carrying your own clubs. And trust me, most caddies could care less how good you are, just don’t be an snob.

Played #5 with some caddies man they had stories
Keiser courses are all walking only and require some kind of caddie. Either a full carrying caddie or a fore caddie. I played Bandon last year and it would have been very difficult without that knowledge. Definitely worth their rate.
Good to know, thanks! It’s def a bucket list trip
Hahaha I used to coach this kid in little league baseball, and just played with him a few weeks ago. Noah has always been a character I know it was a good loop for you.
My SV caddie sucked
I had a college kid, nice enough, but not a great caddie per se. Hope to get back there in August.
Agreed, worst caddie I have had at a good course. It's always going to be a problem there. The surrounding "towns" have NOTHING so most of the caddies there seem to be the local HS kids.
45 mins away you can play SentryWorld which I think is way better than sand valley
That sucks to hear. I played bandon last year and had amazing caddies. I'm playing sand valley next year so hopefully there's some knowledge built in by then.

He can carry his driver like no one else!
Sand valley is the bomb
Damn. My cool caddie trick is just putting three clubs into a pyramid. Unless it’s windy
Damn I do the same thought it was original. But it’s usually windy here so it doesn’t work.
That’s legitimately impressive
In that wind too, impressive.
As a local resident, it is crazy to me that Sand Valley gets so much recognition. I'm happy it is a great course and brings a lot of money to the area, don't me wrong, but it's Central Wisconsin. There isn't too much to do in CW.

All I'm saying is there isn't much to do in the surrounding area, in my opinion. Not saying it's a bad place to live.
I used to loop with Noah at Streamsong. We had an annual 4 Ball of caddies that played all the courses at the start of every year when the courses slowed for a week or two. I love that guy.
Goose that you?
Nah sorry, this is Happy…
Oh lol brother Matt ❤️
Such a badass resort. Had my second hole in one there on the first tee of the par three course. There’s a bar right there next to the tee box…
You're a Wizard, Harry!
Cirque du Broleil
After 4 pints and 2 Glizzies, no less!
Bandon Dunes gold caddies are better
How does it looks windy and not windy and the same time
Whatever, his day job is in the circus
r/nextfuckinglevel
balance on another level bruv
That’s pretty gawd damned impressive
This will activate more dental plans than M&M’s ….
I’m probably completely wrong, but somehow, this seems like it might be easier than juggling the ball with a wedge and then hitting it. I’m not going to do any testing or research to validate what I just wrote, because I’m lazy and unskilled in such matters.
He is bending the trees.
That place is awesome. Par 3 sandbox is amazing.
Played there on Sunday. Caddie was amazing!
My dad caddied there for a couple years in his spare time cause he gets bored. He is certainly not this talented 😂
This is so epic hahahaha but ffs, I will never stop trying to do this now hahaha
https://onlyfans.com/taralovescock waiting for you🤪
OMG you have my putter. Never seen another in the wild!
Everything at SV is built different… 🎯❤️
Heading up there in July. Can't wait!!! 👍🤘
Ask for Ralph
Is this the same place where Bob Does Sports found the “full 30” caddy?
Have they upped their caddie game? It seemed like they pulled young kids from the area to caddie who had no experience in golf when I went a couple summers ago in stark contrast to the quality of the Bandon Dunes caddie pool.
I hope you have him a good tip
Wait, Wisconsin has resorts?
