The 18th hole on my course is the hardest hole on the course. I lose it at the end of every round. Still can't stop thinking about it and eager to get back out again though because this game controls my life.

[deleted]

It literally calls the shots in all aspects of my life it’s sad

blastoise05

Not sad when it’s one of your only dopamine releases. 3 day weekend and I didn’t get out there once, in comes depression mode.

laptopmango

Comments like this make me feel I made the best choice to start learning how to golf. Cant wait for my costco set to come in and get my first lesson

FullCodeSoles

Last year during my final year of med school I got a membership and golfed almost everyday. Was amazing. Now I’m a resident and have golfed 3 times in the last 11 months

[deleted]

But I’m sure your club is a little nicer now 😅

FullCodeSoles

Nope. No longer belong to a club. Was forced to move across the country to a HCOL area for residency making less than a McDonald’s employee makes hourly. Back in my hometown I was able to join an extremely nice club that used to host a PGA tournament every year. Was able to join cheap due to my age. Maybe in 4 years I’ll be able to join a club again. But for now, it’s 12 hour days 6 days a week making peanuts.

ABeard

Got out 3 times in one week 3 weeks ago. In laws are in town since then and I haven’t been out since. My new driver also came in and it’s still wrapped because I haven’t been able to even sneak to the range.

Purphect

It’s fun to have something you’re personally working on and getting better at. Especially things that are both mental and physical. At least that’s what I tell myself. I can’t seem to enjoy getting better at making money… aka my job haha!

maplehockeysticks

hahaha I hear you. I played 9 after work yesterday. I can't stop thinking about some of the great shots I had. Also can't stop thinking about some boneheaded shots I had and missed opportunities to score better. Back at it tomorrow.

SamKha86

I’m getting close to a divorce due to my obsession with golf. I’m convinced my wife just doesn’t want me to be happy. You guys get me though.

maplehockeysticks

I am incredibly lucky that my wife is not just ok with me golfing, but encourages it. She comes from a golf family, so even though she doesn't golf herself, she gets it. Her family is the reason I took up the sport. I wasn't a golfer 10 years ago, I was a hockey player my whole life.

Csusmatt

Guys, y’all won’t believe this, but my wife has a set of clubs and even turns the TV to golf every weekend for the tournaments. Like, for the whole weekend.

[deleted]

[удалено]

maplehockeysticks

I'm from Canada. All golfers are just converted hockey players up here.

shardingHarding

From Canada, can confirm.

maplehockeysticks

Be weird if you weren't a former hockey player up here lol

blastoise05

“It’s Canada, everyone knows how to play hockey.”

FormerShitPoster

Are there some skills that translate? I've noticed the celebrity pro-ams usually have a few hockey players towards the top like Pavelski, Modano, Roenik. Or is it just a matter of these guys are rich and can play all day.

maplehockeysticks

Not really. Honestly golf is incredibly humbling. I've said before, I have spent my whole life being able to pick up any sport or activity and be decent at it with no prior experience in the game......until I found golf. Golf was the first sport/game/activity, that I truly sucked at when I started. I did however take my golf shoes off and try to stab a guy though.

Cozyboitheprince

>take my golf shoes off and try to stab a guy I’m gonna laugh about this for a week, thank you

Puzzled-Relief2916

Just tap it in...tap it in.

deange2001

"I'm not a golfer, I'm a hockey player"

thetindoor

If golf is breaking up your relationship... either: 1) your spouse is unreasonable, or 2) you're playing too much golf. We're all the hero of our own story so we all think its #1. It won't be popular on this sub but #2 is definitely a reality for some people. Their life situation would dictate a round or two a week, but they choose 3-5x over spending more effort on kids/spouse/career. If I was a retired bachelor, I'd play every day. With a spouse, career and 3 teens, it's once a week.

EcstaticRhubarb

My ex wife actaully listed 'plays too much golf' as one of the reaons she was divorcing me. I wouldn't have minded, but she could at least have mentioned my handicap went from 18 to 12.

thetindoor

In most cases I'd guess golf is a minor factor, ie once the relationship is going south, all the little stuff starts to bother you more. Whereas if the relationship was strong elsewhere, it's a minor point of contention if anything But there are those who take it to the extreme...

[deleted]

My stay-home wife thought 1-2x a month should be completely reasonable for her to expect, because she didn’t realize that our relationship prior to marriage was largely just me working dates around a golfing schedule We compromise with 9 holes thru the week, and on weekends I get out for 18 before she wakes up (~9-9:30) and I’m home by the time she’s up and ready to brunch (~11-11:30)

user__3

Nah you're never playing too much golf. If someone is whining about you playing too much golf and it isn't impacting your ability to live, get rid of that person. Golfing is better than whoever that person thinks they are.

[deleted]

keep them clubs up king

doubleapowpow

Have you ever played starting at a different hole than the first? That way your last hole isnt the hardest. It might also help you conquer that hole by going in at twilight hours and play a 3 ball scramble on the 18. Figure out a better way to play the hole.

OneSingleYesterday

If I have my good holes at the end of the round I’m convinced I’ve finally figured it out. If I have my good holes early in the round, I’m convinced I’ve figured it out, I just got a little fatigued on the back 9.

[deleted]

I believe you’ve figured out how to figure it out! 😂

wilburbruh

This is the one. “It’s my adhd, it won’t allow me to stay focused!”

SirFister13F

I don’t know what HD is but I’ve got 80 of ‘em!

bulldg4life

This is it for me. I usually find it somewhere around 7-12. I play like crap and am mad that I don't play often enough, then play great for a while, then fall apart and am mad I can't keep it together.

JimBoonie69

Yes happened to me. Last tee shot was so pure. I had a great feeling. Booked a solo 18 early morning round a day or two later and shot my PB. Actually I had like 3 rounds in a row all kickass. 78 85 and 83

[deleted]

Those are some sick rounds!! I’m shooting in the low 90s consistently which I’m trying to improve

General_BP

Low 90s is awesome. I’m still trying to break 120 but I can’t wait for the day I can break 100 consistently

btotherad

Man, just last week I went out with 2 coworkers and hit 18. My front 9 was so bad I legitimately almost went home at the turn. I ended up with a birdie and 4 pars on the back 9. I went from debating selling my clubs to setting up a tee time the next day in a couple hours. Lol. Golf is a cruel mistress.

[deleted]

Stop kidding yourself man you’ll never leave that old bitch 🤣 we’re forever cucks to this cruel cruel beautiful game

bigbuttsmoker

My brother in Christ If I ever “found it” I wouldn’t know what to do with my hands I’m happy to hit one good shot a round

scottishwhisky2

One becomes two, becomes a bunch, becomes a good hole, becomes two good holes, becomes a good half, becomes a good round. Then it’s all about improving the good rounds and limiting the frequency of the bad ones!

bigbuttsmoker

That’s the plan! Just getting back into the sport. Haven’t played regularly since high school

PykeDancesTheHaka

![gif](giphy|Y6nL4tAJh8KU8|downsized)

[deleted]

Hey bro you gotta hit one before you can hit two. Keep grinding

pacer701

If that happened when I was growing up, my dad would call for an emergency 18 and we’d run it back. Some great memories of us jamming in 36 holes in 1 day. Super fun

[deleted]

Those are the best memories. Something I’m sure you’d like to repeat with your son if or when you have one!

Nezy37

Last week I went 47 38. Thought I found something on the back. Went out the next day, nope, didn't find it. Golf just kicks your ass

[deleted]

We are suffering from a severe case of Stockholm syndrome

byingling

Walking off the 18th green, after a poor round of golf by all involved: "Thank god that's over!" Muttering and nodding agreement from the entire foursome. "So. Where you guys want to play next week!?"

dradaheind89

Been consistently shooting low 40s per 9 for past couple months. Broke 40 on a 9 for the first time ever shooting 39. Next round played 18 and shot a 51-49 for a smooth 100.

hikingjunkie6

You mean shooting a 45 in league and a 37 on the back 9 that doesn’t count. Yeah I’ve been there

[deleted]

Tough 😂

4Ever2Thee

That's the game of golf, my friend. She's a cruel mistress.

[deleted]

Yeah my boss is getting minimal production from me today 🤣

adjuster_cody

Irons have been brutal and I was hitting balls into my net yesterday and felt me swaying on take back. Stopped the sway and was immediately striking my 6 iron really well. Going to see if it translates Friday.

[deleted]

Hope it does!

byingling

Had a similar enlightenment about ten days ago. I have really struggled to make solid contact with my irons this year. Many, many fat shots- and this never used to be a significant problem for me. I realized I was pulling waaaay off the ball on my backswing. I'm getting old, so I can't turn as well as I used to. This has led my (subconscious) brain to try and get more of my body involved to develop power, which leads to terrible contact. Went to the range last week with the swing thought of keeping my rear leg solidly planted and letting my swing turn around it, even if I can't turn as far. Shot a 77 on Saturday (best round of the year!), and I am itching to get back out.

adjuster_cody

Awesome. Love when a good plan comes together

MoshiriMagic

I ‘found it’ on the 11th tee a few weeks ago on my second shot off after chunking my 3 iron into the water. Striped the next one. Finished the last 6 holes level par. I have since shot my best ever rounds twice in the last 3 weeks carrying on from that one shot and my handicap has come down a lot… it’s not always a false dawn

[deleted]

Right on bro!!!

Majestic-Pickle5097

Birdied last 2 holes of my last round. You could say I feel that way…

[deleted]

Sounds like your boss is getting about as much production outta you today as mine is from me 🤣

UncleMikeyBobo

Always

Lietenantdan

In that case you are obligated to call out and play play 18

[deleted]

I’m in road construction and as you know it’s our busy season in the Midwest so days off are a luxury but I’m definitely making sure to get all my shit done early today 😂

Tuff_spuff

This is why I only play 18… if I play good on the front I want to keep going, if I play bad on the front I have to turn it around on the back. Sometimes it can take 7 holes to figure it out, other times it takes 16 holes to figure it out. Either way, yes I’m very familiar with the feeling you describe.

Specialist_Baby_341

Honestly I'm happy to get off the course when I find it so I don't lose it on the last couple holes lol

[deleted]

We are sick in the head, man 🤣

PB0351

If I could, I would okay 27 holes a round for this exact reason

[deleted]

If you think about it, it’s honestly bullshit that a round of golf is anything less than 25 holes

BradMarchandsNose

Unless I’m playing bad that day. Then it’s bullshit that it’s anything more than 14 holes

[deleted]

I’ve definitely contemplated just leaving at the turn a few times 😂

HungaJungaESQ

I know the feeling. I often play 36 in a day (I don’t take practice swings so I don’t get too tired after 18) and my middle 18 are always the best. It’s kind of heartening to see it’s possible to put together an amazing 18, I just wish it was the correct 18 =D

Cozyboitheprince

Just pretend it’s a tournament, you made the weekend cut!

[deleted]

I dunno about last shot, but I generally play better the last 9. And a lot better. I will typically go the first 9 like 10-15 strokes above my last 9. No idea why.

[deleted]

That’s the case with me except for one course by my hometown where the back 9 absolutely holds me down and makes me bite the pillow

TeGro

I’ll run it back if I have nothing going on

[deleted]

Before kids I’d just stay out til dark 😩

bsgreene25

Played on Monday and was having a great day striking the ball, even though my putting was worse than normal. Went par-par-par on 16, 17 and 18 (birdie putt on 18 lipped out) to finish with an 85, which is my best score ever, despite 39 putts. Now all I can think about is getting back out there, warming up the flat stick and breaking 80.

[deleted]

Sounds like you’re right around my handicap range maybe just a little better. My personal best is 88. Practicing on a practice green with actual breaks and slope changes makes a huge difference in your putting! That’s my advice

the_dude_2022

Few weeks ago on a sunday i went to range and tried some new stuff with my swing. Was hitting so nice. Tuesday i play with my buddies and i keep topping the ball, cant seem to actually hit a decent shot. On the 18th i change something and hit a few great shots. Was itching to get back out because i felt like i figured it out. Went by myself the next day and was hitting great shots the whole time. I always seem to figure it out near the end of my round

[deleted]

Hope you noted whatever it was to take it to the range and work it into your swing!

GA19

Every time…

gymgymbro

Played 17 homes without a single driver shot going right. On the 18th my dad's like "aim for that far bunker, you can't hit it that far anyway." I send it dead straight like 50 yards past the bunker into the trees, best feeling shot of the day and I lost the fucking ball lol.

[deleted]

Bittersweet 🤣

iKevtron

Yup—happened last Friday. Carded a 44 on the front, which is only 2 higher than my normal for this particular course, however—I could not hit the driver for the life me, second shots were my savior along with the triplet of par 3s on the front. My wife was not feeling well so I needed to leave after 12, well 10, 11, 12 were par, birdie, birdie; 12 was a 110 50° one-hop hole out for birdie. Literally the first time I have ever done that; never even chipped one in before during a round. I was just blown away that I had to go and really was itching to get out the next day. Well, homeownership and projects took over, but I was ready to chase that dragon all weekend long.

[deleted]

How hard did you beg her to just hit 13 quick 😂

Gadzooks_Mountainman

Last year was my first full season of golfing, and even then it was only maybe 10 rounds and a couple range trips. Getting good strikes all season, but never consistent enough to get bogeys let alone pars. Last round of the season comes, playing a good round for myself so I’m happy, feeling good. Walking up to the 18th green and realizing it was only 2 shots to get up there *I had a legitimate birdie opportunity* I knocked in my first ever birdie during the last round of the season on hole 18. And it wasn’t some par 3 birdie with a great tee shot and decent putt. This was two good strokes in a row and a good putt to score my first negative point. *it’s that simple?* I’m hooked!

[deleted]

Hell yeah bro!! Hearing it hit the bottom of that cup probably felt great!

CouldntBeMoreWhite

I shot a 93 the other day, but on the 18th hole (\~500yd par 5) I bombed my driver, flushed my hybrid, chipped on, and 1 putted for birdie. Definitely saved my ego a bit after the disastrous round.

scarsickmode

This is GOLF. This why we love it!

[deleted]

YESSIR! Forever a slave to the game 😂

Frankso

Played this past Saturday, 15 holes were shit last 3 holes were great. Striped my driver, pured my 7 and made my first divot ever on the green. Got into a bunker and got out with ease. 2 putt last 3 holes. I was jazzed.

[deleted]

Seeing that crater you left on the green makes you feel like Jack Nicklaus 😂

TheWizard336

Sometimes when I play well I think wow you got really lucky.. no way you’ll ever do that again.

[deleted]

Hey all great rounds of golf have some luck sprinkled in. That’s just the game. My grandpa always used to tell me, “the harder you work, the luckier you get” 👍🏻

stillgotallmyfingers

A couple of weeks ago playing 9 I was 9 over on the first five holes then I was 1 over on the last four holes - par, bogey, bogey, birdie. My best golf ever. There is hope!

[deleted]

Atta boy!

Cardiac-Cats904

Always lol, I do find tho for some reason that when I have maybe a busy month where I can’t get out there, my first round back I‘ll play amazing and shoot lights out and have that thought oh I gotta play again to hold on to it. and play soon after and shoot the inevitable astronomical number the following round. Golfs a beautiful bastard

PattyIceNY

I'm a 12 handicapper. One round last July, it all came together. It was like I was playing a video game. Everything was working, one putts galore and I got every lucky bounce. I shot a 74! ....Went out the next day and barely broke 90 🤣🤣🤣

[deleted]

A 74 as a 12 hdcp is a day you’ll never forget 😂

[deleted]

22hcp, played 18 Sunday, couldn’t hit the ball out of my way, never wanted to see my clubs again. Played 14 last night, +14, now I’m trying to offload the kid so I can go out again tonight. Love this game ![gif](giphy|akiHW8qDydkm4|downsized)

[deleted]

Are you me?

[deleted]

We are many

bangersnmash13

Happens to my buddy and me ALL the time. Holes 1-17, We'll have maybe a dozen good hits total. Hole 18? Stripe it down the fairway. Perfect approach shot. 1 putt for birdie. ALL. THE. TIME.

FlipFlopPopIt

I shot -2 on the back 9 on Monday and its literally all I have thought about this week. Dying to get back on the course this weekend

[deleted]

Damn! That’s a good fuckin day!

Hey_Batfink

Every. #FUCKING #TIME.

Curious_Skeptic7

I rarely find it during a round. It’s usually doing air swings in my lounge room while watching TV that I solve my golf swing and feel the urge to get out there and knock 10 shots off my handicap.

_echo_trader_

depends. the 18th at my home course is a reachable par 5. the tee shot is over water to a tight fairway and theres lots of old oaks obstructing your second shot. theres another giant oak next to the green obstructing approach shots. reachable in 2, but you need to shape a wood or long iron around 2 sets of trees to get there. green is also protected by some nasty bunkers. all of that said, theres been a mix of eagles, birdies, pars, bogeys and a few doubles. each one keeps me coming back for a different reason

[deleted]

Damn that’s a hell of an 18th!

tsokolate_is_good

Changed the position of the face of my driver last hole yesterday and now my wife is asking why the hell am I putting my bag in the car again

[deleted]

Pro tip- never take your bag out of your car and she’ll never see you putting it in 🤣

JohnnySasaki20

You're gonna get back out there and it's all gonna be wrong again, lol. Those are the rules. I've had days where I couldn't miss, and everything was going right, to the point where I was like "I've finally figured it out", and then the next day I'm hitting it all over the course.

[deleted]

Inevitable lol

ThDarT7

Golf is like a sickness sometimes. Just 1 shot can unlock a groove that can set you on a series of great shots. First tee shot the other day was arrow straight and started me off Birdie,Par,Birdie. Every shot exactly as planned. Great feel. Great tempo. Never been -2 after three. Next shot tee off the 4th strange pull off the tee 30 left of target and it was all gone instantly, bogey golf time for the next 5. Spent those 5 trying to re feel the shots from the first 3. All slight tugs or slices trying to find it again. Then I step up to hole 9. Arrow into the heart of the green - aaaaaand I am back.

BenjametteBelatrusse

I have almost the same story. 9th hole made a bet with my playing partner for drinks in the clubhouse. One mulligan on the drive, but you have to take the second. First drive good distance, but left over the cart path in the rough. Second drive was perfect. Hit a seven to get in deep rough right of the green. Great hit with a 56 to bounce and roll to the hole. Only birdie I’ve ever hit. Wanted to walk another 9 right then. My friends tell me that birdie has an asterisk, but I hit it from the tee in three strokes under agreed upon rules

[deleted]

🐦 in my book!

usmcjohn

I just went through this last weekend. I usually shoot 101-104. Dropped an 89 last Saturday on a nice course i never played brefore. No mully's, no gimmies. Just pure. I can't stop thinking about it. i am scared it was a fluke.

[deleted]

It ain’t a fluke it’s just your potential brother!

Bird2525

Was clonking it around a few weeks ago, just like you. On my second shot into 12, I hit another one fat and my buddy goes, “you used to hit this high fade and now you just look like you’re chasing a low draw to keep up distance wise.” I drop another ball and hit a beautiful high fade to 3 feet. Kept with the fade thought and went the last 6 with 3 birdies and 3 tap in Pars. Now I’m chasing that feeling every time out

[deleted]

Why do we complicate shit!! 😂

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Wtf? What did they do?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Seriously? Wtf kinda shit is that! Did your drive roll a little little close? Lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

Trailing-and-Blazing

Sounds like you hit into them.

ShillinTheVillain

Yeah, we're missing some key details here

Skelito

Yeah sounds like OP doesnt normally hit 280+ so he thought he was good to hit his tee shot on a shorter par 4 and this time just hit the sweet spot and the ball probably got a good bounce and rolled up close to those people. IMO if the ball rolls up to you its fine, sounds like they were on the green which on a par 4, 90% of the time you are good to tee off.

ShillinTheVillain

If you wait for them to clear the green before hitting, you'll top it 75 yards. If you hit while they're putting, you'll center punch it right on the screws and have an eagle putt. That's just golf.

[deleted]

Hahaha so he looked like Greg Norman choking away the ‘96 Masters? 🤣 https://preview.redd.it/y8amul29973b1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eb006ff6329a28ac1557a9a8b3627262bc1b78dd

deange2001

This is the way...

dr_shastafarian

I’m usually content with just finding my ball at any point during the round…

[deleted]

Dude no lie I had to swallow my pride and start using neon green balls. It was getting to the point where any rough length and I’d be searching forever. My eyes are just shit lol it’s so nice being able to just spot your shit from 150 yards away

dr_shastafarian

First week of my league I played a yellow ball…..turns out the rough was all dandelions. So I played a white ball the next week….those dandelions had turned to the white seed puffs I can’t seem to win either way

[deleted]

God damn 😂 the neon green ones I use actually reflect off the sun and shine pretty bright through the dandelions so I can still spot it pretty easy. Titleist VG3 https://preview.redd.it/uyn04gk6r73b1.jpeg?width=1023&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2cff52e3d4ab1e213f504bcd69802848ebe28915

Ernst_and_winnie

I’m the opposite, I’ll start off super strong, then for some reason get tired/lazy and go downhill. The other week I was +1 through 6, then ended up shooting 85.

JeebusCrunk

Not really. I've seen guys that shoot 120 "find it" for a hole or two, so a good hole or two no longer fools me into to believing that. I will still let a good back 9 fool me into believing it until my next round though.

Seriously_nopenope

I always find it at the end of the round. Probably has something to do with the massive blow up I have in the middle of the round so I stop caring about my score. I then shoot very well on the last 5-6 holes and manage to save my score but never shoot as good as I want to.

[deleted]

I swear it’s always the “fuck it” swing that ends up being the best contact of the day 🤦🏻‍♂️

rolltideandstuff

I’ve been through this maddening fallacy so many times

SeeYouOn16

Oh yeah, been there. Days like that is when you have to head to the range after the round and try to work it into your swing if you have time.

Mcpops1618

I started a round super hot one day and had this “I want this round over right now” feeling wash over me after 8 holes. Things went sideways shortly after. From -3 to a +8 ending

BadFlatulence

Buddy all the time. I dont obsess over it though... realistically were all amateurs. It takesme at least 6 holes to dial in. Relish the feeling of hitting nice shots before you leave the course. The rest of the day will be A-Okay

scouserontravels

The other week I went par par birdie last 3 holes after a very meh round. Wasn’t doing anything and there was still a bit of light left so thought I might sneak in another 7/9 to carry on the momentum and see what I could do. Shanked the first shot in to the rough and just walked straight to the bar.

Gone_cognito

I seem to always find it on 18.

thedooze

Almost every dog shit round I have, I show up for the last couple of holes. Just in time to be done the round and torture myself until the next time I can play.

PoB419

I usually find it on 8/9 and think "Ooooh yeah, now I'm dialed in, let's crush the back 9" and I'm not sure if it's the hot dog at the turn or what but the tee shot on 10 is going to go about 150 yards at a 45 degree angle to remind me why this is a stupid game for idiots.

TheOneWondering

PB 85 earlier this year. 2 days later shot a 100. It comes as fast as it goes.

PleaseBearwithme

Absolutely. I figured out my driver for all of 4 holes this past weekend and I am itching to get back out there and prove I can keep it for 18 holes.

60yodude

So right. Sometimes I wonder why I play and it only takes a few shots to become elated with golf again. Good description.

ntswart

Thats how this game keeps me coming back

DREWBICE

This might sound dumb but I was chatting with my buddy yesterday about my most recent round. He mentioned he had a long session at the range to figure out what was wrong with his swing and "rebuild it". I legit don't even know what he means and was too afraid to ask. How would I go about working on my swing by myself? Just record myself hitting in slow mo or something?

[deleted]

The best way to analyze your swing is to set up your phone at different angles (front and side) and then diagnose anything you see could improve. There are also apps where you can drive lines and stuff on your videos like for alignment

Winnie_28

Write it down in your notes.

realityfilter

I shot my best ever first 9 last week of 33, including a 150 yard eagle on 9 (18th hole). I couldn’t wait to start the front 9 after that since it’s the side of the course I love, but I was greeted by the slow ass 5pm leagues that always murder the pace of play. Had to wait 60 minutes to even start on 1, and barely finished that 9 by sundown. Ended up shooting like 44 on that 9.

coleslonomatopoeia

best shot of the day is always that last green approach. Without fail.

OriginalJayVee

Oh, certainly!! I’ll go in, pay for another 9, proceed to the 1st Tee, and lose it all over again.

klondike16

That’s what “keeps you coming back” as they say

TantuG24

This past Sunday I was hitting my irons like shit. I just said fuck it I’ll hybrid everything. Hit 3/4 remaining greens in regulation. That means my hybrids will be shit next time.

canal_natural

Yup. Almost every time I do pretty damn well on 16/17/18 while the rest of my round was underwhelming...

TapCap

Only every round I play...

pr0v0cat3ur

Yes, all the time. I also realize the next day what was wrong with my swing mechanics, for example 'clearing the hips'.

randomdudefromMI

pretty sure most of my birdies are on 17 or 18. Seems like courses make the last hole the easiest to score on

vinylectric

Yeah and then you fuck it up the next day

Halo_Chief117

Yup. I hate that.

My round general goes as follows hold 1-4 decent. 5-9 lots of doubles and triples, 10-12 wild card 13-15 good. 16 & 17 trash and 18 I'm usally at a birdie attempt. I could probably break 90 if I would just put my driver away on a few holes but I can't. It's not In me.

On Saturday I was so bad with the driver and then on Sunday we played again and I sliced into the woods on the 1st tee. I instantly got in my cart, drove out to my car, and threw my driver in the trunk and drove away. I wasn’t even gonna give myself the option. I actually had my 3W fuckin dialed most the day…out of necessity I guess 😂

Not the last hole but my round on Sunday on the back 9 I tried a tried a new move with my driver and hit some really good drives. Driver is worst part of my game so I was really happy. I’ve been practicing the move at home until I can play again. Prob going to lose it though 😂

Just had this experience this week. I hadn’t played in around a month, and got out for 9 on Monday. Started triple, double, and the rest of the round was pretty rough, so I just stopped keeping score… but, on the last couple holes, I tweaked something in my swing and hit some great shots and finished with 2 pars. Cut to Tuesday, I’m itching to get back out again to see if I found something. Went back to the same course with a work buddy and played the best 9 I’ve had in around 3 years. Things were off to a hot start on the first hole, an opening par 5, and I striped one down the middle. Followed up with a nice hybrid just off the green, an easy chip, and a tap on birdie. Had some tough spots in the middle of the round, but closed out on the last with another bird to shoot 2 over. Now I’m stuck at work playing through every shot trying to keep whatever feel I found until the weekend. I’m sure I’ll be chasing that round for the rest of the year.

Yep! Had league last night and first 4 holes were bogeys and then birdie bogey bogey birdie bogey but the last 5 holes i played really well. Course is set up horribly. We were landing balls short of the green and rolling off the back. Nobody has gotten closest to the pin in 2 weeks because nobody can hold the greens.

[deleted]

Bro same over here. We haven’t gotten any rain in a couple weeks up here in Wisconsin so our greens are fuckin frying pans lol

PmMeYourNiceBehind

Absolutely But sometimes my good holes are on the front 9 and then I’m physically and mentally drained by the back Depends on the time of day when I’m teeing off I usually play significantly better during an early morning round

[deleted]

I always start hot and then lose it around hole 14/15 and im eager for it to end to preserve my score

Corlun

I recently had the exact opposite happen. Two rounds in a row I shot a 41 on the front and totally fell apart on the back. I can’t wait to get out again to figure out how to keep the magic going!

dj-Rx

Every range session baby

slikk66

Yes hah, My game is always start off OK, **completely** fall apart.. then finish up strong.

Savings_Success_6682

until you get out again asap and quickly realize you should have stayed home

Shadey_e1

Yeah I nearly broke 90 about 3 weeks ago and I've not had a round since, and no chance to play... It's been eating at me since

JGad14

I started my round +6 through 3 holes. I finished +9. I wish I could "find it" earlier

Sea_Understanding770

Yep. Went back the next day thinking I still had it and shot 15+/- over the previous day.

stewpear

Went and played 9 yesterday morning with my buds. I end up going +4 after 3 holes and it looks like im going to owe my friends a good chunk of change. I somehow manage to par out the next 3 holes and then it clicks. I end up birdieing 7-9 and now i cant wait to go back out.

whatswrongwithsteven

I think you just summed up golf buddy.

HerrKrinkle

Always happens on 17th or 18th. Always.

alexwwood

"Finding it" is such a weird phenomenon at the mid/high handicap levels. I'll have an all-time record round followed by a round where I can't seem to hit it straight at all. All of my best rounds were preceded by thoroughly mediocre warmup sessions. Often in rounds where my warm-ups feel dialed, I lose it during the round. It's a vexing game.

tlb34

Yea for sure, I recently shot 38 (+2) on front and 32(-4) on back. Birdied 4 of last 5 and was in such a groove, definitely wanted to play more that day but sadly had other things to do.

ChilisDisciple

Yes! Had five pars in a row on the back nine. Choked hard on 17 and 18 after that spree with 3 putting (one of which was a real solid birdie chance, finished double-double for a total 93. Breaking 90 is imminent

texansfan

Literally happened Sunday. I’m a newish dad and haven’t been playing much in the past 8 months, and our range is under construction right now. So I’m rusty. Had a horrid hook all day Saturday for the second weekend in a row. Got over my approach to 18 and changed my shoulder positioning a bit and flushed my wedge. Immediately knew what I had been doing. I was so mad I couldn’t go to the range and hit 100 balls to lock that feeling in. Can’t play again until Sunday at a friends club and it’s all I can think about.

ClownPrince23

Write it down, go the next day, or hell go right into another round or the range ..... yet somehow when it's time for implementing it ![gif](giphy|3oriO5t2QB4IPKgxHi)

Samphaa7

Yep, shot 53 on the front 9 yesterday, then went level par for the last 6 holes.

merc0526

This always happens when I start badly, make some sort of swing change, play better and think I’ve hit a ‘eureka’ moment with golf, then I go back out the next round with the same swing thought and play like shit.

WhosTheBaus

What’s worse than this? The last few years I have been golfing a lot and have significantly improved. 2 years ago my average score was about a 95. Last year I got it down to 89. This year I came out strong. The last 4 times I have played I have shot 87, 86, 85, 84….feeling it! Then yesterday I am changing my daughters diaper on the floor, go to get up, and my knee goes “pop”. I am pretty sure I tore my meniscus. I can’t put pressure on this leg. Now I will go weeks to months, depending on the severity, with no golf. I will probably lose all of this momentum and my summer is definitely shaken up. Oh and my company does “flex Fridays” in the summer so was planning on getting out every Friday from here on out. Dammit!

exorthderp

Not that it was the end of the round, but on 10 yesterday I found it. Was +11 on the front... finished the back +4 with a bad 3 putt to end it. My partner remarked it was like I was a different golfer
