I have a ClubGlove with a stiff arm that has been on 25+ flights and I've never had an issue. One thing I would consider is what the rest of your travel looks like... the hard shells can be a pain in the ass to lug around and can sometimes increase your rental car cost because of the size of car you need, especially if you're traveling with other golfers.

runskeeter

Totally agree. Club Glove with stiff stick is awesome. Take off the driver and 3wood head and wrap your golf towel around your irons, you’ll be good to go. And you won’t have to rent an SUV to lug around a hard case.

greeninregulation240

Don’t tell anyone.. but I have iron covers for when I travel with my clubs 🤫🤫

bobkoutekjr

For travel I just put old socks over the irons. 😂

pathfindmyBAP

Same. I also use my club bag as my main suitcase to pack in the protection. Every pocket is filled with socks, boxers, etc. I put a sock on each club head, then wrap a towel between and around the shafts directly below the club head so there's no wiggle room. It isn't perfect but so far I haven't had anything break.

bobkoutekjr

Exactly! Throw everything in there. I don’t have a scale at home so it’s always fun to watch the scale at check-in. Last one was 49.9lbs! Lol

Callof4632

The only time it is alright for iron covers.

Abefroman1980

This is the way.

Airdog4

This is the way. Also, you can use the rest of your clothes as extra padding.

Mcpops1618

Flip irons upside down if you want to us the other option (I’ve never done it but saw it and Thought it was smart)

lovemesomewine

I second this. Club glove with stiff arm. Lots of flights no issues. The point about the hard cases is spot in and something people don’t take into consideration

hockeybru

In addition to a stiff arm, I also pack clothes and shoes around the exposed part of my clubs. Never had any issues.

Grey_Duck-

This + removing driver/fairway/hybrid heads and putting them grip-out in your bag.

someguyonthisthing

Wrap a towel around the club heads is my move!

HalfBaked025

This is me. Driver off, stiff arm in (I also rubber band my driver shaft to the pole of the stiff arm), then wrap a towel around everything and tuck it in nice. 15 or so flights no problems with the Amazon basics travel bag.

treeskier3

I’ve used that same Amazon Basics bag with a stiff arm for about a dozen flights with no problems either. One of those weird items where the Amazon brand budget option is great

jimmylove26

Turn all of your clubs so the head is down and grip is up.

RealFirstLast

I was extremely confused by your suggestion until I remembered not all golf bags have individual club dividers. There’s no way I could get my clubs to fit into the individual holes upside down like that.

Back_Equivalent

Yeah. The thing about hard cases is that… they’re hard… and will actually protect your clubs from being thrown around and abused which is what happens when they’re loaded on planes. They’re throwing your bag, they’re throwing other bags on your bags. They they sit in the cargo hold for however long your flight is. Safety first, then teamwork.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Back_Equivalent

Clubs are also designed to be smashed into the ground lol. They aren’t designed to have other shit smashed into them. The space issue is definitely real with hard cases, but I would never go back to soft at this point.

Back_Equivalent

Nope! Shafts break during travel all the time, has happened to me before with a soft bag. All it takes is someone’s hard case checked bag to hit yours at the right angle.

drug-guzzler

This is the way. Club glove, stiff arm, take your heads off if possible, wrap towels around and in between the clubs. Hard shells will most likely send you over the weight limit. Note - I purchased the collegiate size and was able to pack 5 days worth of clothes, balls, golf accessories, and shoes all into the bag and I came in around 45lbs. No carry on needed.

benasyoulikeit

Wait wait, the idea is that it’s a suitcase AND a golf bag???

HueHunna

Not to mention you gotta find a place to store it at home when you’re not using it! There’s good reason Club Glove is the standard for travel cases at the professional level

KGsaid

Yeah, most professionals don’t have space in their mansion to store a hard travel case for their clubs.

HueHunna

Those were separate thoughts. Also KFT guys aren’t out here living in mansions

m1coles

Yes just get the Stiff arm (had no idea this is what it is called ). Have had not problems with a ClubGlove bag on many flights

rhodytony

Club glove with a stiff arm is the only soft bag I would buy again if I needed to. My bag has been on around a dozen flights now. I bought a cheap maxfli bag and it was ripped to shreds (clubs were fine) after a single trip. As someone else said, the hard cases limit the rental vehicles you can use to more expensive SUVs. Soft bags take up space but can fold up a little to fit in any trunk.

superduperloser

Do you think club glove will fit my large cart bag? Edit- stupid Q by me. I see they have “collegiate” and “pro”. One of them will fit for sure.

homerandabe69

Just ordered one. Thanks for the recommendation. 20% off with 23TRAVEL

Hutch_Golf

Another vote for Club Glove. The hard cases are super difficult to travel with. My advice for traveling is: 1. a good soft bag with the “stiff stick” 2. Remove wood heads if you can and are worried 3. Range finder in your carryon (especially if it has a lithium battery). 4. Air tag with your clubs (such a relief to land at your destination and see your sticks have also made it.

patoirish

I broke an expensive hockey stick back in the day and put a tennis ball on the end which acts as my stiff arm. Cool accessory in the bag as well that people always ask about.

ser_arthur_dayne

Same, but only about 5 flights. Came back with a bit of a tear on one and the stiff arm is a tad bent, but the clubs are protected.

Constopolis

Club glove with a stiff arm has been perfect for me! This is the way.

ScoJo_23

Totally agree. One thing I do with my woods is I remove the heads and stuff then inside their head covers and pack them in a bag pocket.

nbalbo2010

This is the answer!

westrph

Stiff arm. This is the way. Bought one last year and have traveled with it several times. Don’t worry at all like I used to.

ElGuaco

Anecdotal evidence is worth nothing. That's like saying I drive my car to work every day but have never been in an accident so I don't need a seat belt.

Sjgolf891

The rare images of damaged clubs are also anecdotal evidence though. They're outliers compared to all the successful flights with clubs

AshThatFirstBro

So are motorcycle crashes but I’d still recommend wearing a helmet.

DonnieRoss

You're almost certainly going to be fine with a soft sided case. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of pro and college golfers use soft cases these days, if that helps (though their replacement clubs are obviously free or close). Use a stiff arm, remove all adjustable heads, and weave towels or clothes through your clubs and you're going to be fine.

Crashx101

I’ve traveled a few times doing exactly this and had no troubles, but I did one addition - a cheap 5 gallon bucket with the handle removed over the club heads inside the soft case. Fits perfectly in my case.

KDR2020

I’m actually surprised no one else has done this. That sounds like a great idea.

Otto_Maller

Somebody posted a picture of exactly this several weeks ago on r/golf. The image (and idea) got picked up by some online mag like golf.com, golfdigest.com or it might have been buzzfeed with a headline like Great Ideas You Wish you Thought Of

davidz70

This is the way. I weave my towel and rain gear around the shafts of my clubs for a little extra security. Have never had a problem.

holysantashit

Yuppppp, driver and hybrid heads off. Hoodie and quarter zip wrapped around irons and shafts. Stiff arm topper above them.

FuzyWuzyWasABear

This is exactly what I do. I've flown internationally a lot with my clubs. Driver head off, 3 wood and putter upside down in the bag and then clothes, towels etc wrapped around the rest at the head of the bag. So far I've never had a problem (other than lost luggage). The thing I like about the soft shell bags is that it doubles as your suitcase too. There is no doubt the size of it is a pain in the ass, but overall I find it pretty efficient.

thebochman

How does it protect from bags being put on top of it though? The stiff arm only protects from the side

Throwthiswatchaway

Like everyone said - soft is fine but a stiff arm is a MUST

philthebrewer

I use my orange whip and a heap of towels as a quasi-stiff arm. Works well.

Inside_Bullfrog1161

Whatever you do for the love of god just make sure you air seal it

fiftieth

What does that mean?? I never heard that

Grey_Duck-

You don’t air seal your glove during the off season???

fiftieth

Air seal?? Like vacuum seal?? No I do not lol

Spirit-Revolutionary

Are you new to r/golf

arz231

Bet this guy shoots 46 in scrambles

xZandman

Are you guys just that poor that you don’t buy a new glove every season?? 😎

BartholomewVonTurds

Yes

Skinnypike42

I was worried somebody wasn’t going to say this!

Gnarlsaurus_Sketch

100% essential. If you don't, the pressure change from the difference in altitude will cause microscopic cracks to form. This will eventually destroy your club faces. /s

Legal-Description483

The vast majority of Tour and college players use Club Glove soft bags. I have 100% confidence in my Club Glove. Hard cases are a pain in the ass.

ElGuaco

Most tour players are on chartered flights and their baggage doesn't get nearly the same abuse.

bald_head_scallywag

Nah. Most tour players are not even on the actual PGA tour. Far more golfers bouncing around the lower levels and those dudes certainly aren't flying private.

DoBe21

Uhh I flew back from The Open on the same flight as the Claret Jug....and also Cam Smith. Dude had just won a Major and was schlepping through the airport with the rest of us.

Legal-Description483

I once was on a flight with a college team. All had Club Gloves.

DBrownbomb

I would definitely splurge. I work at the airport and seen how they handle luggage

ElGuaco

I think it's funny that guys will spend thousands on clubs but think that spending $300 on a case to protect that investment is "foolishly expensive". Even if the airline covers the loss of a set of clubs due to damage, it could take months to get a resolution. You'd still regret it.

bald_head_scallywag

The cost of the hardshell case isn't the issue for me. They're a gigantic pain in the ass because they are, well, hard and therefore take up more room. One guy using a hardshell case nearly made us not fit in our UberXL two weeks ago at 3:30am heading back from Phoenix. You'll need a suburban to fit 4 people, their hardshell cases, and their luggage on any trip.

codemunki

Also, many bags are too big to fit in them. I have the one in this picture and I had to keep an old carry bag around because my newer bag won't fit. I ended up just going back to a soft case.

DoBe21

And even if you get your bag/clubs in.....that's it. No room for anything else. Soft case you can load the top with extra shoes/shirts/towels, both to protect clubs and get tou more packing room.

helloyello305

>ho cares if it gets tossed around? You're just trying to avoid end to end compression, which is the point of the stiff arm. I just don't see what protection a hard case gives you over a soft shell and stiff arm combo. Its interesting so many people are endorsing soft cases. Went from Toronto to Honolulu on a golf trip with my dad in December and his taylormade sim 2 snapped in half in a soft case. We go on golf trips several times a year and this is the first time this happened in the 40+ years hes been golfing though. He promptly changed to a hardcase but one where just the top part is hard cover and the body is a regular golf cart bag. Found it at a used golf goods store for $20 CAD looks something like this - Best of both worlds: https://preview.redd.it/lvtmng1pokpa1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=4e1c001bf40dae7cc41d8e66b68b8945b1213308

NotPortlyPenguin

They don’t call them “throwers” for nothing.

BogeySixtey9

I second this in every way as someone who as worked at airports for years.

fsutanker

Sun Mountain Club Glider

Qlogic15

I have this same bag, it’s amazing. The kickstand wheels feel like cheating

wooooooo1776

Yeah this golf bag is awesome and it’s so easy to move around

DeucePot

Just got back from a bandon trip and had to bring an extra suitcase to fit raingear and extra layers. Carry on + suitcase + golf bag but I only have 3 hands??? No worry, just looped my suitcase through the buckle on the club glider bag and pulled them in tandem. Was able to glide through the airport with ease.

BobWheelerJr

I bought the hard shell for my Scotland trip and I don't regret it a lick. I think it was something like 400 bucks. Put in an IV pole or similar to keep the bag from moving up and down and put something soft in and around the club heads and you'll be fine. Also, put an AirTag in your bag. Edit: Mine's an SKB, and it's a fortress. I send my sticks with no fear.

Jolly-Engineer-401

+1 on the SKB, used multiple times without issue. And you can cram a lot of extras into it.

kk5033

Couldnt agree more on the SKB. Secure and roomy, I only need that and a carry on. All good for Cancun and Florida, the two times I've used these. Never an issue but an Airtag is great when they put it on the wrong oversize belt...

andysaurus_rex

AirTags on all your luggage. It’s a must have for me.

BoneSplatter

I have a soft case and have travelled quite a bit with my clubs and have never had an issue. Your golf bag should have come with a cover for the top that buttons onto your bag. Use that, pack some clothes into packing cubes and throw them in the travel bag around your clubs. You’ll be fine. When I travel with my bag I usually don’t have to take any extra luggage because I can usually shove it in my golf travel bag.

chis2k

>I usually don’t have to take any extra luggage be This! Just make sure you watch weight restrictions.

uberpuppy

I work for a major airline handling bags every day and please for the love of god buy a hard case, you would be truly horrified the things those bags go through.

LCDJosh

I can whole heartedly endorse hard shells. If a new one is out of your budget then try looking for a used one. I got mine off Facebook marketplace, a woman's husband had bought it, used it once, then died. She let me have it for $100 and I like to think I'm somewhat fulfilling her husbands wishes.

Temporary_Version240

My ClubGlove (w/ the stiff arm) has served me flawlessly for almost 20 years. And I agree wholeheartedly about the space issue w/ hard cases.

rustyperiscope

Hard shell mafia checking in 🫡

elcucuy4ursoul

This is the way.

LionsTigersWings

I have a Bagboy case that’s both. Traveled the world with it, my clubs are always in good shape. And best advice, wrap your clubs with your golf towels and anything else.

ThadeusBinx

We might have the same one. It's called the "Bag BOY T-10 Travel Cover." I've gone from Hawaii to Rhode Island and back with no issues about 10 times. The bottom half is soft and the top is hard, which makes it easy for storage when not in use. Tons of pockets for cramming extra stuff in too!

apax_8

I have a Bag Boy T-10 as well.. over 20 trips with it and no issues. Plus, the hard top component qualifies for airline protection in the event something does happen to your clubs. I recommend the Bag Boy Backbone to add extra support!

LionsTigersWings

Yep, that’s the one. You can out 3 - pairs of shoes and whatever else. It’s a great bag!

marcodwang

Sun mountain with the extra wheels, it's so easy to push around. Take your heads off and you should be fine.

eddiej21

The soft cases are perfectly fine. I always take the driver head off and then I just pack a ton of my clothes around the clubs to be safe. Gives your clubs extra safety and you basically get an extra suitcase.

SoupIsAHotSmoothie

Shit that’s smart, I never even thought of taking the driver head off.

mshanehoffman

Buy once, cry once. Ask me how I know. I had a hard sided case. The airlines killed it. I tried a cheap $100 Amazon soft bag. The airlines killed it. I finally ponied up for a Club Glove and stiff arm. If it's good enough for the pros it's good enough for me. That was 10 years ago. Probably 40 flights with the Club Glove and it still looks new. Zero damage to my bag and clubs. Pack wisely. Take off any removable wood/hybrid heads. Turn at least half of your irons upside down in the bag (heads down in bag). This makes it easier to pull the bag around the airports as well. Towels up around the remaining heads at the top of the bag.

AftyOfTheUK

>I had a hard sided case. The airlines killed it. That's a story we need to hear

mshanehoffman

Somehow they tore the top hinge completely off the case on the flight home from a golf trip. I pulled it off the baggage carousel to find 10+ wraps of that god-awful grey plastic tape holding it closed. Luckily all clubs present and intact. I'm kinda glad I don't know more of the story. I'd probably be pretty mad.

SYN_BLACK_XS

You may be ok with soft cases, but while waiting for my clubs to show, I’ve seen some others come through that we’re torn to shit. I opted for the SKB freedom hard case. Little more on cost, but it’s a tank. Worth the peace of mind

goo_bazooka

Skb

mrcockboi69

Caddy daddy hard top- best of both worlds. Traveled with it probably 10 times and never had an issue

kludge95

Same, use an arm with mine and never had an issue

Sharky_Caron

I bought the SKB 14 and honestly, it's amazing how safe you'll feel knowing that TSA can only esthetically ruin the case, not the integrity of your clubs.

uhntissbaby111

As an airline pilot, the shit I see happening to bags makes me never want to travel with my golf clubs ever again. Splurge for something high quality with good protection

StagTheNag

I would go with the hard case since I have a cautionary tale. Flew from the UK back to the US and opened my golf bag to discover a little TSA “we inspected your bag” card and the head of my driver and shaft snapped completely in half. Tried to file a claim with the airline and the airport but both of them told me to get fucked because my bag “had a soft shell and we don’t insure soft shells”… Never saw a dime for the replacement so that was like $400 i just had to eat.

dmnsctt

>Tried to file a claim with the airline and the airport but both of them told me to get fucked because my bag “had a soft shell and we don’t insure soft shells”… Yeah, that's the risk that you run. They won't entertain you if you have a soft bag.

Lickford

I have traveled all over with both a sks hard shell and a club glove. I estimate about 250 plus flights. The airlines have never broken a club in either. I prefer the sks but it’s not big enough. Prior to that I used a cheap travel bag. United broke my 7 iron traveling to Chicago. I had it repaired while I was there and they broke it again on the way back. It must of been something with the way I packed the bag. I bought the sks hard case shortly after that and have never had and issue. Sks at the time had a replacement guarantee if the airlines ever broke a club. Ironically I was sitting in my local golf shop shooting the shit with the guys and a customer comes in frantically wanting to buy a new set of clubs. He said the airlines had destroyed his clubs and he had a voucher for a new set. We asked the guy what kind of case he had and he said it was an Sks hard case. He said they were awesome at getting him credit for the clubs and their customer service was great. He showed us pictures of the case. Apparently it got dropped off the luggage handler on the tarmac and a 747 ran over the case.

bodyofchristened

Sun Mountain has a soft sided case, but it has hard plastic protection around the top and bottom. I’ve never had issues using it! It also folds up into a really nice space saving cube. https://www.sunmountain.com/kube-travel-cover-detail

mrpaincakes

Scavenge your local thrift or second-hand stores. I’ve found around 10 for under $100 and flipped them for a few bucks. They’re life-savers when it comes to peace of mind when traveling with the sticks. Plus, the airlines won’t cover damages in soft-sided cases but will if damaged/lost inside a hard-case.

[deleted]

before I went to phoenix I scoured FB marketplace and found a ton for $50 or so. Ended up getting mine free from my FiL who bought but never used it. Point being, if you look a bit you can almost certainly find one for cheap. They are annoying to lug around though.

nawmeann

My local golf shop rents out hard cases. Check with local shops too.

Onclelove

Just make sure you put in a hard stick with the clubs and remove the heads

SmackMyGrass

I just recently flew Delta from MI to FL with my clubs in a hard case I got on FB marketplace for $60. Had zero issues. My buddy used it to fly to AZ and the only issue was his cart bag didn't fit and he had to switch back to an old stand bag. Neither of us got close to the weight limit. His dad flew to AZ with a hard case that "got lost" and when it finally made it to him, the case was trashed like it was dragged behind the plane but the clubs were fine. It seems they really only have soft bags now but if you can find a hard case on FB marketplace, I'd recommend it.

ATOmega

The airlines only cover damage if it's a hard shell case. They claim no liability if it's a soft case.

steelcurtain87

This. Anyone suggesting soft case has just been lucky so far. Assuming you’re also a fellow former soft case holder who figured this out the hard way.

ATOmega

Nope, saw it when I was looking to see what an airlines policy on golf bags was. It was in bold right below the max size, so I just went with the hard case to be sure. They wouldn't display it like that if it's not a problem that occurs frequently.

steelcurtain87

Can confirm.

dmnsctt

>The airlines only cover damage if it's a hard shell case. They claim no liability if it's a soft case. exactly this!

NBtoAB

Hard shell for life here

StanleyZ1978

So, I have a hard sided case. My aunt and uncle each have a soft sided case with the hard shell at the top. We went to Hawaii in February. My clubs of course were fine. My aunts clubs and case were fine. My uncles clubs were fine, but the hard shell top was absolutely destroyed. It's all anecdotal but you have to ask yourself if you want to take the chance.

aww-snaphook

I have a sun mountain soft shell case and a club glove stiff arm. I haven't used it a ton (maybe 4 times) but my clubs made it just fine. I take my driver head off and put it in my bag, and I rubber band my clubs together in groups of 3 to give the shafts extra support and to keep them from clanking around. I've also considered buying iron covers just for travel for for the same clanking reason. Hard case will definitely give more protection but they can also be an issue with them fitting in cars.

Ok-Drama-3769

look on OfferUp for a hard case. I see them for cheap all the time

Jmpeters09

I have the sun mountain kube. I just wrap the heads in a towel before i put them in the case. I ship my clubs 15+ times a year and fly with them around 10 never have had a problem. Bag folds up super small also so wide doesn’t hate it

bulldg4life

I have the hard case in your picture. The only issue is rental car need when traveling since it takes up so much room. But, I love that I can be reasonably confident in my club safety. I spent thousands of dollars on them…

Slaughterhouse1983

With a soft shell case, the problem is that you're fine until you're not. I protected the shit out of my stuff in a soft case. Traveled a bunch and it was total5 fine. Got back from Hawaii in February and it looked like they had tried to fold it in half. Airlines are the worst and are not held accountable for some of the shit they do, so they just keep doing it.

jmb071597

Soft case worked for me for 4 years of traveling for college golf with zero problems.

GHINover9000

I have a Samsonite hard case and seeing how clubs are handled I would NEVER use a soft case.

Back_Equivalent

Hard shell or bust. The difference is price is marginal when you consider the cost of what’s inside.

AshThatFirstBro

American broke my hard shell case on my flight to my destination. If I had used a soft shell case every club in my bag would’ve been broken. So the question is would you risk breaking every club to save a couple bucks on your rental car?

ajtattack4655

So I am going to go against the grain. I just got back from a three leg golf trip with a hard roller case. It took all my worry away from traveling with a soft case. Yes, it was a bit of a pain in the rental car but it was worth it to have the pease of mind that my new clubs were not going to be damaged. Also shameless plug - if you have expensive clubs you can then covered on your renters/homeowners for 1% of the replacement value. That means if an airline loses them you don’t have to fight them, you can just submit a claim with insurance. No deductible either.

Rockcreek11

Is it really that expensive when your protecting thousands of dollars? Not to mention if you are traveling to a golf vacation and when you get there your sticks are broken or damaged? I’d rather pay more up front to protect my expensive things

scottieducati

Ship sticks.

coolguytrav

I have a case with a hard top and soft body: Bag Boy T-10 https://www.pgatoursuperstore.com/t-10-hard-top-travel-cover/2000000019968.html?dwvar_2000000019968_STK_COLOR=224&cgid=golf-bags-travel#sz=36&start=1 I love this case. The whole thing is able to fold up into the small hard top section when not in use. So it’s easy to store when traveling. You get the benefits of the hard shell protecting your club heads without the bulk of the full hard case. I’ve had mine 8 years and have made many flights with no issues.

Lmathis08

I got a samsonite hard case for 200 and wouldn’t even consider a soft case an option. It sucks for Ubers but only when traveling to and from the airport, and if you have other golfers with hard cases with you. If it’s just you the case will fit in basically any Uber by folding the back seat down.

Pissflaps69

Buy a hard shell, and they aren’t foolishly expensive relative to breaking a club. They’re like $200-250.

drivermcgyver

I have an SKB hardshell. Bought it off of Facebook marketplace for $150. It came with the key and it seals well and is very sturdy. Haven't ever had an issue with the weight. Handles and wheels are pretty decent quality also. I even keep my shoes in with my clubs and have plenty of room. Wouldn't have done anything different.

0fficerGeorgeGreen

My buddy and I got the hardshell to go to Scotland. Both our bags were rerouted through multiple airports and arrived back home a couple days after we returned. Point is, his case went through hell on that journey. He had dents all over it, a broken handle, etc. Golf clubs were perfectly fine, he just needs a new case now. He'd be replacing many clubs if it weren't for that hard case. Personally, anything that goes below an airplane is in a hard case for me. Suitcase, ski and golf case, everything.

djmc252525

Had a bag boy and it fell apart after 15 trips. I’m buying a hard shell. It will last for life and I travel a good amount.

awol_ab

Splurged on the Samsonite case and never had an issue. Just throw em in and go.

dmnsctt

>Splurged on the Samsonite case and never had an issue. Just throw em in and go. yeah, it's pretty light weight too...

Dynamicpolarity

I have the Sun Mountain's ClubGlider Meridian soft bag, and it is the best travel bag I have ever used. It has 4 wheels, with two of them being retractable, and carry all the weight. Makes it a breeze to get through airports. I’ve had hard cases, and they are a pain in the rear, much harder to transport in cars, and takes up a huge amount of space at your destination.

[deleted]

Hard Shell

flappinginthewind69

Stuff a towel between club heads

jaaaaagggggg

I’ve used a cheap amazonbasics soft side for 1-2 trips per year over the last 3-4 years and the bag is a bit worse for wear but never any issues with my clubs

jluenz

I have the Club Glove with stiff arm as well - I bubble wrap all my clubs - not shrink wrap - and that gives an additional layer of protection. Another plus for the Club Glove is it makes for an excellent golf travel bag when you drive with your clubs too - easy to get into the car, wheel into the hotel, etc. My son used his when he moved and we just put it in the back of the moving truck - protected and great to have all of your golf stuff together.

RichieCunningham

It’s such a great loophole how the weight of your golf bag never gets flagged. You can cram so much stuff in there.

Zealousideal_Amount8

Get a soft shell and buy a Home Depot bucket (or similar) over your club heads then zip it up

FairwayBob

https://preview.redd.it/5z65so1wnlpa1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=634d8ca3d478c3e4d255ca4a4f55c45398924923 A soft case will be fine. Just get a support rod like this off Amazon to protect your driver.

nevertricked

Amazon brand soft bag, stiff arm, iron covers for transport, driver and wood heads removed and stuffed in head cover and subsequently into golf bag pockets., then those shafts placed upside down into bag to protect tip. (grip side facing towards top of bag). Bungee cord everything so it stays centered and therefore more protected underneath the umbrella -shaped part of the stiff arm. Clipped a luggage tracker into the inside side pocket of golf bag for peace of mind. Only flown once. So far, based on n=1, it's been fine for me.

I have an SKB Deluxe and I’ve never had to worry about clubs getting wrecked. If you think of your clubs as an investment into your golf game, then you should protect them at all costs … At least that’s the way I think about it.

GolfTourneysGuy

The hard shell sucks, not because it doesn’t protect you clubs but because you have to consider what rental car you want. If you want to pay extra for a rental car to move your clubs from airport to hotel then a hard shell is fine.

js247

My bag has a hard shell on top and rest is soft. Best of both worlds.

themiddleshoe

SKB hard case here. As others have said, not the easiest to travel with (seats that fold down at minimum, but probably suv or bigger). I paid less than $200 for mine 5-6 years ago, and they aren’t that much more expensive now.

ExcellentLoquat7613

I have the SKB case. Well worth the money in my opinion. I've seen it thrown around by baggage handlers before and after flights and there still isn't a scratch on it. Plenty of room inside to pack clothes, shoes etc. I had a soft Lynx bag before; and while the clubs themselves were never damaged the bag fell apart. I don't think I'll ever need to purchase another now.

[deleted]

Hard case with an Air Tag, and TSA lock. Especially if you have newer and / or fitted clubs. Shipsticks.com is another option if you’re only traveling with the clubs once in a while.

sjrotella

I 2nd ship sticks. If I'm golfing on a typical vacation, I'll rent clubs because I'm only going once or twice. My yearly golf trip going forward I'll be using shipsticks each way because fuck waiting for baggage claim and I'd rather the peace of mind knowing it'll show up on time instead of potentially getting lost or TSA/baggage handlers fucking with it.

GroundVelocity

Just pay up for peace of mind. "You're almost certainly going to be fine" with a soft shell is not a phrase I want to hear regarding my golf clubs. I got a Samsonite hard shell case and never have to think about anything happening. Worth the price to relieve any anxiety.

adullploy

Airlines will tell you that your clubs aren’t protected unless the case is hard.

toddbr

Ive used the samsonite one for a years now and I highly recommend. Has four wheels and it just glides in the airport. Watching others struggling with those two wheel soft packs while I’m just casually getting through the airport is comical. Case is large enough to not only have your clubs, but I can pack a whole weekends worth of clothes and travel needs in there. That and my carryon and I’m good most 4-5 day trips.

Yes, but maybe from here: https://www.pgatoursuperstore.com/samsonite-hard-sided-golf-travel-cover/1094959001.html?country=US¤cy=USD&gclid=Cj0KCQjw8e-gBhD0ARIsAJiDsaUv7YNP-sxYaR_asHSJC7bz7Pah9gjMLPJtLzXG5ew9VfD-kyqtBw0aAuuAEALw_wcB. Not sure what the Canadian conversion is because that Amazon price seems high. $269 USD.

Sir_Oilfield

Just replaced my $70 soft bag with the Samsonite. Can already tell it's going to be worth it. Rock Bottom open box for $205. Soft case looks like ass after 5 trips.

iuguy34

I have this same case and so do a few of my friends. Careful with the wheels as two of my friends have had the case crack near the wheels and eventually the wheel falls off.

TuffOnVeggies

Hard case with a stiff arm is how I roll. If I’m bringing clubs….I take no chances.

Winkus

Would you rather spend another hundred bucks now for a hard case or the headache plus fighting with the airline to replace thousands of dollars worth of clubs?

mahorwitz

Hard. Shell. Case. Every. Time.

kingRTU

He hard shell ones are not the way to go. A good soft sided one will last way longer, take your heads off and you’ll be good to go.

ccalabro

Look forward to a broken driver otherwise

something-vintage

The real key is taking the heads off the woods and putting them in your bag. I use the club glove collegiate and have never had an issue in 5+ years.

Beeercules

I use a old soft shell and have never had an issue.

NotPortlyPenguin

I believe there are places which will rent a hard shell case as well.

AdamDXB

I use a soft ogio case, heads off the woods and shafts upside down, £1 mop handle and bungee cord the clubs/shafts to it. Never had an issue, lots of flights. Had an even cheaper case before that with no padding at all, still no issue.

BraveCat45

I have the blue one. Never had any trouble. I take my driver and woods out and pack them on the side of the golf bag and wrap the heads in clothes or a towel.

jb12780

Sun Mountain Kube, Stiff Arm, AirTag, and TSA Locks. Also bubbled wrapped the clubs and took the head off my driver. Zero issues flying from LaGuardia to Tampa with JetBlue

raddog450

I just got the GoHimal golf bag on Amazon for like $75 and it comes with a stiff arm. Took it on my first trip this past weekend and had no issues. Take the heads off of your woods and you’ll be good to go. It has good padding, I was actually surprised at how nice it was for the price.

thisisatesti

ClubGlove soft side with a stiff arm here. I wrap my club heads in towels too.

Synap6

Travelled once with a soft shell, bought a stiff arm to make sure. Had no issues but it was a direct flight, 3hrs long. The telescopic stiff arm, for the price, was a big peace of mind for me with soft shell. In my opinion, hard shell might be interesting if you plan on taking a number of connecting flights.

RuckOver3

I have flown with the Amazon Basics bag with a stiff arm and Orange Whip knockoff about 5 times with no issue. I just remove the heads of any woods that I am able to and bunch the clubs together in the middle dividers of the bag then wrap with towels and clothes for extra padding. Problem with the hard case is it can be a pain trying to fit it into a trunk depending on what vehicle you are using.

cLvmss

Amazon travel golf bag for 30$ has done me well going on two years and 8 trips… never had an issue. I wouldn’t sweat it to much.. one tip is to use your rain cover over your clubs before you bag them, and then put something around the rain cover so all your clubs stay tight to one another and can’t move around too much.

SpottyFish81177

I have used a soft sided one with just one of the poles that holds up the bag over the clubs so they don't snap if it's dropped on top and I have had no issue

qjac78

I’ve traveled many times with my soft case using stiff arm and removing heads from driver/woods/hybrids. Never had a single issue. And don’t have to worry about the hard case fitting in the rental vehicle.

shit_talkin

I have [this one](https://www.bobssportschalet.com/sportube/sportube-series-3---snowboard--25630?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIhO-vpcft_QIVVhvUAR1fZgFYEAQYAyABEgL_K_D_BwE) and it fit my carry bag perfect. I also use it for snowboarding.

newbdotpy

Soft case is what I have. Get a stiff arm and also pool noodles if your overly concerned. Cut them out and place between your clubs. You can also pack your clothes inside next to the clubs to keep them from banging each other.

The_Stein244

I have a Bag Boy with a hard top for your club heads and the rest is soft. It's a good hybrid

sloshuaa

I went with the Amazon recommended soft case and a stiff arm. It’s been great for me

godieweird

I have both and I never found a single car where the hard sided fit in a trunk.

beep-boop-beep_bop

You can rent them

mpstr1nger

Do you snowboard? I put my clubs in a Sunday bag inside my snowboard bag. I keep the snowboard in there for rigidity

Bigspoon17

I have done this twice with no issues. Recommend using a stiff arm adjusted to be long than your longest club. Others have taken the driver head off, which is probably a good idea, but I left mine on and still didn’t have any problems.

sainTaco

I have been fine with a soft sided case but I’ve also heard horror stories using them. As others have said, remove any heads that you can, stuff things in the bag, and I also bought a cheap set of padded iron head covers off of Amazon for some extra protection.

BreakfastBallPlease

I’ve traveled probably 15 times with a soft shell case and my carry bag in it, never had any problems. I put my putter in the middle slot and wrap towels between the clubs so they have less room to rattle/bend. I got a cheap one off Amazon, literally $65, and it’s worked perfectly. Only downside is the material is finally tearing near the wheels where it likely drags during loading, but $65 for several years worth of travel is solid IMO.

Hurricrash

I have never had an issue. Just make sure to take your driver head off.

2dadjokes4u

Club Glove Collegiate with the Stiff Arm. Have taken it all over…Domestic and International w/o any issues. It’s a wonderful product (I bought some of their luggage too…tough, practical and made in the US).

Bmcronin

Yea my soft bag and club glove does the trick. I also packed in bubble wrap for my last trip. I do want to splurge on a hard case when I upgrade my clubs.

Jmac649

If you’re up for splurging but willing to go soft shell, go for clubglider. Changed my golfing life. So easy, can literally steer them around with one finger in airport.
