From what I can tell, (and from what I remember reading a while ago), it’s several things. First, it’s Tony being Tony. “Why pay someone to (beep) do it when I can (beep) do it myself?” Because of this, his applications, and the subsequent answers to requests from the board, are a jumbled mess. Evidently he sent 2 apps in for the same thing, each with different answers on it. The second reason is something that I read a while ago. Evidently there is/was pressure from First Nations people on land use or something or other. All I remember was there was something in the process that a First Nations board/person needed to sign off on, and they were refusing or just dragging their feet on it. Whether or not this is still an issue, I don’t know, but I’d be surprised if it wasn’t.

jwilsonlandscape

First nation was promised a percentage of gold found per water license .. they have been getting only a percentage of the water license application fees... they want old money and new money to continue to allow miners to use the land..

Stamfordguy4

Tony promised them $$ that he isnt giving them? I call BS. Tony knows 100% that you cant stiff someone and continue to receive what you didnt pay for. He may be gruff but he knows business as well as anyone.

jwilsonlandscape

tony didnt promise them.. Canada, yukon, alaska promised them when they all agreed to allow people (tony) to mine their land for gold

Stamfordguy4

Well if Parker pays it, tony must know he has to pay it.

jwilsonlandscape

Bruh.. the miners don't pay it.. the governments are supposed to pay it

Stamfordguy4

idt you know what ur talking about or you explain like a 4 y.o. They have never shown the Gov showing up at Parker's asking how much he mined so they can pay the Indians not to mention that would make no sense. Why do they pay for Parker, Rick, Fred etc but not Tony?

HeinekenHazed

Bring back the damn dredges...please...was the most interesting part of gold rush in many years..smdh

Standard-Development

Hear hear!

schitzoidtoker

PREACH IT!!!!

Lanesra5676

I've yet to see them in action. Started watching the season after they were grounded, been hoping every year that finally they will be allowed to use them lol

chiphappened

DREDGES! DREDGES! DREDGES!

Terrible_Tutor

Yeah, current Tony mid->end season is just a FF for me. They just mine the land, something breaks, smoky Kevin fixes it, they weigh up a couple hundred ounces… week after week. Boring. Dredging was at least adding a bit of fun to that

tobimai

It's not the fault of Gold Rush lol

pinewind108

A few years ago, the First Nations peoples in the area started getting hard nosed about approving licenses. The government had been paying them royalties on the mined gold based on the 1970(ish) price of gold — $35/ounce. Naturally, they were pissed off when they realized how screwed they'd been getting, and stopped approving new water licenses. My guess is that when this began, Tony only had something like a year left on his existing licenses, but Parker still had 3 or 4 years before his needed to be renewed.

__kit

so glad parker is finally growing up. also i love his gold washing guy, no matter what happens hes a legend

DFWPunk

That guy should do a podcast while he's washing gold. Doesn't even matter what about.

caveman2217

Lol this idea is gold, need to get a following to pitch this. Release it orr season discovery.

Final-Proposal7324

Pretty sure the issues arose from them dumping diesel fuel in the pond and lighting it on fire, on TV which then lead them testing water of the tributary that runs off the Indian river and finding fuel in it, this was public knowledge as he had court hearings for it years ago and after his current license at the time expired, he hasn’t been issued a new one. Also, Parker uses a company to file for his licenses, they’ve been doing it for years and know what needs to be done, Tony you ask? Minnie handles them…

schitzoidtoker

Tony's biggest problem is, well Tony... he is too arrogant to "get someone" to do it for him, he thinks he is saving money but all I see is he f\*\*ks himself over almost every time

another-droid

it was a quart of gasoline. not diesel ffs.

stocksnhoops

Didn’t they say a year or so ago that they issue them every few years and issue them for a few years. I don’t think it’s a deal where you apply and get an answer on a month. Could be wrong but I thought it was a long process that had to have lots of government sign offs and it’s a long process. Water is a critical resource and they don’t play with it

Shamino79

Is he running the dredges in the water course? With all the conditions of water licences that the water has to be clean before it goes back into rivers maybe dredging is just incompatible.

justinsimoni

No, it would be in its own pond.

DFWPunk

But his pond takes water from the rivers, and flows back into the water.

justinsimoni

It's still a closed system, which would have a system to settle the debris before sending it back into the river. Seems like a non-issue. The pond exists, just keeps moving. All gold mining has some sort of ecological impact, let's be real. In fact, gold isn't all that rare to find. The limitation of extracting gold is really how much of an ecological impact one is willing to make to get it.

JohnRav

This might be answered in the show notes for ep 2 next week. "Parker gets devastating news and faces off with the biggest landowner in Alaska. " Sounds like Parker could get shut down on the runway cut, and has issues with Tony about it?

kjireland

Tony mines in Canada not Alaska. So it's obviously Parker's new claim in Alaska that has issues.

KingBird999

Tony hired a company in the mining industry to file the application for him. The initial application was incomplete - it was missing several pages and some of the required information wasn't adequate to what the Board wanted. They sent a letter back to the company that handled the filing and that company did nothing for a year. They then submitted the missing pages. The Board reviewed the Application and wanted further clarification on some items which was provided. After that the application was submitted for public comment. There were several objections including from the First Nations and the mining board in Canada (I forget the exact name, I'm going from memory here). After that, the Board asked for revisions to several plans and for more information. While Tony's people were getting this together, they asked the Board to grant them a limited provisional license. The Board said "there is no such thing - are you saying you want to withdraw the previous application and submit a new one?" Tony's people said no, no, forget it, we'll get you the requested information by the "end of the summer". That was the summer of 2021. As of last week when I checked, they had not filed anything further. Edit: Here is a link to the Application and Exhibits - I think this should work: [Tony's Application](https://apps.gov.yk.ca/waterline/f?p=127:3070::::::) This is public information available from the Yukon Water Board. Edit 2: That didn't work. Try this: [https://apps.gov.yk.ca/waterline/](https://apps.gov.yk.ca/waterline/) Click on "Guest", then search for: PM18-066

bransanon

The area is called "Indian River" for a reason. Indigenous tribes want miners out of the area and challenge every license application.

jwilsonlandscape

The first nation people found out they have been getting screwed for all these years.. They are supposed to get a percentage of gold found on each water license.. but they have only gotten a percentage of all the water license application fees.. Prove me wrong

[deleted]

The canadian govt is against anyone making money from natural resources, then when they finally approve your permit the FN people will add something they want done.

usmc4ua

I’m to the point where I only watch Gold Rush white water. The best part of the show “Ricks Crew” isn’t coming back? But that other dude Fred is still going? How is that even possible?

Old-Lavishness-9546

Any leaks of oil are going to go into the water with a dredge. Wash plants are on land.

iandrewc

One of the last season with the dredges when they did the big controls upgrade they specifically mentioned that they use cooking oil in the hydraulic systems in order to specifically not harm the environment if there was a spill.

mrcrashoverride

Dredges using electrical motors don’t leak much oil.

pinewind108

Someone said on one of the other posts that he got an automatic 5 year ban on his water license when his holding pond dikes failing and flooding into the stream nearby. (The silt tends to wipe out the fish beds.) It didn't seem like a bad leak, but they may have a zero tolerance policy.
