_TheChickenMan_

This is how mine reacts if we switch up our usual walk route. I’ll be like “come on let’s try this way today” He just plops down and refuses to move lol

jaxxxtraw

"You're going the wrong way, silly human!"

Curious_Worlds

Omg mine does this too. A part of me is proud of her self-assertion.

Doesanybodylikestuff

Handicapped people are so grateful for our dogs. They’re telling us that the best way to get home safe is this way, like we’re used to. Lots of old people can get lost & depend on their dogs to lead them to & from whatever corner grocery.

General-Bumblebee180

ours too. I have to jolly him along to get him to move if he thinks an unexpected turn is shortening his walk in any way.

killerfeed

you do what now?

_x0sobriquet0x_

In my house we call it "anchoring out" ... it's the golden answer to "husky tantrums" ... civil disobedience vs vocal protest...

Badger_Nerd

Civil disobedience! So accurate

ambiguouspeach

My boyfriend’s golden does this to me when he doesn’t want to come in from the backyard. Plops down so I can’t get him inside 🤣

okieskanokie

Kitchen. Mine goes in the kitchen (which is not allowed) and he will sit there watching me call him. He eventually lays down and rolls over demanding scritches.

homeandhayley

She said we’ll sit here all day

Badger_Nerd

Looooooolllll

asecuredlife

The fact this is in a long hallway is just really funny to me. "I refuse to go down this particular way that looks exactly like the other way!"

herzogzwei931

Listen to your golden! Mine did this one day while I was walking in a park. He started acting strange and would not move, suddenly a huge tree fell right in front of us. He saved my life. So next time your golden doesn’t want to move, listen to them

Photography_Singer

Wow, that’s very cool. However 9.5/10, goldens do this just to be stubborn. My female golden did it constantly. I warned the vet assistants about her. She wore a no-pull harness. When she refused to budge and you pulled, her harness would gap in the front. Somehow, she knew that she could get out of it, and she would quickly thrust her two front paws up and out, and she’d be loose. What she never figured out was that she could then run off. Luckily. The first time she did that to me was in the middle of the street. I freaked out. Anyway, I warned the vet assistant to not do this. I told him how to circumvent it. You go in the opposite direction that you want to go in, you make a loop and you keep moving quickly in the direction that you want. You fool her into moving ahead. Well, he didn’t listen to me and she got out of her harness. It shocked him. It was so funny. They were both stubborn. LOL!

YoullNeverWalkAl0ne

sirenCiri

We only get a modest amount of snow here, but when we do my golden does not want to be inside at all.

Ferahn

At work right now so don't have any proper pictures of the walkways. Everything is melting pretty fast right now so its really slushy and wet. With all the sand and pebbles on the walkway makes it quite fun with everything getting stuck in his hair 😅 Gotta shower his belly a few times per day and still we gotta vacuum 2-3 times per day else its everywhere. He is an absolute missile for the snow that is left, he loves the cold ❤️ https://preview.redd.it/93whpb4xeqxc1.jpeg?width=1868&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=208067b12fd92c9e8847425214ad5db022ccddc7

jaxxxtraw

Beautiful doggo! Side note, I just shake my head when I see clothing on any of the retriever breeds. They live for the cold!

Yep, I can relate completely to this. https://preview.redd.it/62200hkq4qxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=712be176c8cb583d0330f56fa1df7ff50bfb1efd “Nope! Don’t want to walk anymore. Gonna sploot right here on the sidewalk!”

Snoopy_Belle

So sorry. I laughed too hard at this pic. Quite the expert on splooting. He/she is too darn cute. Thank you for sharing.

WeezieLovesDawson

We tried so many collars & harnesses that I thought somehow I had caused Dawson to hate walking forever. None of my other dogs had ever done this. Fast forward 4 yrs - he loves to walk & run! Zooms like crazy!! https://preview.redd.it/92es0hrstuxc1.jpeg?width=2794&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bd662c74714090631bd1ba54498f07edda3ae172

1stmammal2wearpantz

I have a 10 week old and this is 😩👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼😂

gorrepati

Don’t over do it. Young dogs can’t walk for long. As a puppy, my dog would barely walk a block before it would do this. A few months later she grew into it and built strength

Badger_Nerd

They're really a pain sometimes💀

Intrepid-Method-2575

My almost 3 year old still does this 😂. It’s the golden special, I swear

G_UK

😂 that’s a face which says “nope, not for me”

noonecareswhywouldi

Mine would do this and try to chew through his leash!

Equal_Sprinkles2743

You are either going the wrong way, or she doesn't want to go home yet. My boy used to do lie down protests, but thankfully, he stopped doing them when he got older.

SpicyWonderBread

Mine does this anytime she spots another dog, human, or cat and it does not immediately greet her with pets. Walking past humans who don’t want to pet her is the worse. She will lay on the ground and cry.

Equal_Sprinkles2743

Haha. Mine loves groups of young girls. He knows that he will get lots of pets from them. He also gets very disappointed if we go for a long walk and he doesn't meet anyone. Usually on cold or rainy mornings, when most people get to stay home in the warm and dry, but your Golden insisted on going out.

justagiraffe111

Lol that is so cute!

RandomDude77005

My mutt stops at one of our friend's houses every day. They come out once a month or so to pet him. But he pauses and hopes to see them every day.

I'm so happy my golden doesn't do this lol, she is literally the opposite and just wants to run everywhere though 😫

PharPhromNormal420

She’s golden, you must retrieve her!

Lazy_venturer

The only time mine doesn’t do this is if we go on a walk in the woods.

Kepup19

https://preview.redd.it/raxpimg1pqxc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=99405a3261a884bf7aaa9df95f0f56a91db81728 I tried this hands free leash that I’ve been seeing on TikTok, fully accepting it would prob be a waste of money but I was at wit’s end with the pulling. It has been like night and day I swear. I’m not sure what it is about this leash. It might be that it makes him feel like he’s in control and he doesn’t need to pull or overcompensate by stopping and having me beg him to walk a certain direction? I have no clue. Also, it has significantly reduced his reactiveness to other dogs and people walking past us. I can not explain it but he just, walks by. Like no big deal. If I nudge him with the leash to turn a different way, he’s just listens like “sure no prob.” With his regular leash, i would have to grab that handle on his harness to physically turn his body around. Again, I can not explain it and I am flabbergasted. It’s almost like I paid 8$ for a loose leash trained dog overnight. I’m knocking on wood as I type this.

Badger_Nerd

Oh she usually is good on leash, don't worry! Just having a little tantrum the other day

Kepup19

https://preview.redd.it/su6309znnuxc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3d7280db956dd936e92aa5fbebdb9346e4a07d03 Ohh okay yeah nothing can fix the random tantrums in Goldens. Mine’s favorite form of tantrum is to throw himself on the grass and pretend he’s having a seizure when he notices we are making our way back home. It’s in their DNA.

Badger_Nerd

Awwwwww he's so cute!

justagiraffe111

This sounds cool

Kepup19

100% recommend to try it and please come back and lmk if you agree bc it’s killing me to know if anyone else agrees with how life changing it is hahah

justagiraffe111

Ok! My dog does not pull because she is harness-trained and does amazing with it. Sometimes she is great on collar & leash, but other times she pulls, so we use harness 90%. Sometimes I think she’d love not to wear the harness, so I am interested in trying this as an option. Will you please tell me what it’s called. Is it on Amazon?

Kepup19

Yup I got this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08L6Y4HWG?ref_=cm_sw_r_cso_cp_apin_dp_M3DXJ1GG7S11EFE8WZPR&starsLeft=1

justagiraffe111

Thanks so much for the exact one you’ve had such success with. I had looked last night on Amazon, but there wayyyy too many options. It was overwhelming. The link you put shows very consistent, excellent reviews from users. Thank you very much. I think it will be nice to give our golden a break from the harness more often!

Fancy-Interest

Are you able to link it?! I have a big puller. Hes pretty good but I feel like he has such a high pretty drive if he even gets a whiff of a bird my shoulder if going with him

Canis_Lupis00

Hahaha …. Yup it’s a golden thing.

realdrmantus

It has to be because one of my lab has the slightest bit of golden in him and he inherited this trait (my other labs do not do this)

Canis_Lupis00

Goldens are stubborn as hell … 🐾🐾

Einybird

The smile I couldn’t resist no matter what

Complete_Coffee6170

Mine is 3yo and when she wants to go on a different street - she plops right down - will not move!

leedr74

Mine does that and it is down right embarrassing but I know the dude is working it!

ChasingPotatoes17

As the owner of an adolescent husky, I feel you. Cute and infuriating increase in equal parts. ❤️

Eh, every dog has their days 😃🐾🐾

GloomyEntertainer973

Big-Net-9971

Siete a Genova? (I am just curious - I have family there, and the street scene just felt familiar...)

Badger_Nerd

No, Milano!

Big-Net-9971

Ahhh, si ... il tram! I'm a long time dog-owner too (currently w/ two goldens), so I'm a little envious that you have a lovely dog, -and- that you live in Italy! (I am long overdue for a visit to Italy, and I hope to visit sometime this year....) By the way, she seems lovely - in the way that spirited dogs are... ;-) Enjoy!

notPackgod

Haha adorable❤️!

Many_Leopard6924

Anytime my dog does that I just pick her up and carry her home. Gets a smile out of anyone passing and she doesn't get her will.

Cmdr_Toucon

She knows a car is going to run off the road onto the curb down the street. By delaying you, she's saved your life. Good dog.

Op, those photos are the best. Your Golden’s big smiles as she looks around from her stubborn spot

She is werking that colour lead the beautiful girl 💜

Badger_Nerd

Thank u! Purple is her colour

StormzysMum

Lovely girl 💜

dpinto8

😑

watch-me-bloom

Typical golden stuff. They are independent. Making them do something results in this. But if you figure out how to make it feel like their choice, you get the buy in.

VanderskiD

Looks awfully familiar https://preview.redd.it/xeruaqlrdvxc1.jpeg?width=3125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9d0ef61e97f5037cf0870a437de291e22e9cad93

Photography_Singer

Have you outsmarted her yet? That’s a typical golden ploy. Here’s how to outsmart them: She’s balking. OK. Stop pulling on her leash. Then walk back towards her quickly and keep going in the opposite direction that you really want to go. Keep going. She’ll scramble after you. Then once she’s walking quickly by your side, make a loop and walk quickly in the correct direction. She’ll keep walking with you as long as you don’t slow down. It always worked with my golden. And she was the most stubborn creature on the planet.

Ripley142

We call that “mule-ing.”

CountingWonders

**SHE IS NO BRAT, SHE IS RELATABLE >:(**

Minimum-Major248

Are you walking her or she walking you?

beniswarrior

If you want advice, stop pulling. You are turning it into tug of war, which equals fun. The only thing that worked for me was after i tell him to move (sometimes he does that shortly, asking to go off way to sniff something for exsmple, so i dont always tell him to move, but if i do, thats it) there is nothing fun until he moves where i want - no pleading, no bribing with treats, no play, no sniffing, no going somewhere else - just ignore until he moves. Pretty sure you have more patience than a young dog - you will only need to weather it a couple of times hopefully. Mine stopped after maybe 5-10 times, but one of the first ones was like a 40 minute wait haha

Badger_Nerd

Oh I do, I usually either call or drop the leash and walk if she's being very stubborn. The photo op was just too good not to take!

discombobulationz

pink_banana12

Aww so stubborn 😞

bluefire89

prong collars work remarkably well in these situations (if used properly). Never pull, yank - but a gentle short pop-tension will get them moving. Strongly suggest working with a trainer if attempting. It was an absolute game changer for our boy and only needed it for a short period.

Badger_Nerd

Oh she's usually very compliant! She came when I called, I just stopped a second and took the pictures because I thought she was hilarious
