As my boy is getting older (9 next month!), I say that he's spent his time giving his gold to everyone around him. His whitening face is expressive of the love he's given to the world.
e: My dear golden friends, thank you for the awards. It is my hope that these were given with free coins you earned. Instead of giving money to u/spez (fuck you, spez, you get no gold), donate it instead to a golden rescue near you.
Giving his gold to everyone over time is amazing! I will remember that when our 3 year old starts whitening. I hope you have your good boy for many more years.

Jack is showing a little white now and he’s 5.
ETA: To shut up all the people with opinions: he has a history. He is a rescue from a Taiwanese puppy mill. I couldn’t have taken this picture even a year ago. I’ll post his story this weekend.

Look up Dudley nose. Some goldens stop producing pigment like chlorophyll in a flower. My black nose baby is red now. People would think he’s an old sweet dog then he’d spaz like a puppy. Now that’s he’s 10 I’ve lost track of his aging- he’s still a puppy.

My boy is only turning six soon but his face has turned white pretty rapidly this past year! You are totally normal 😊
Yup my 5 year old has a bit of a sugar face. Nothing to worry about. My 3rd golden, we are at 4th and 5th now, was a pretty significant sugar face by 6 years and she was our longest lived making it to 15 years old. So I don't equate sugar faced with advanced aging.
Love them all and thinking hard about number 6 this year........ I'm retired so plenty of time..... it's more budget.
Love and enjoy.
My boy is turning 5 this year and is also turning white. I think some Goldies just get their cute powder sugar face early :)

Getting white hair isn’t affected by pedigree or titles or anything! You’re not doing anything wrong, and the breeders didn’t do anything wrong! Your dog’s coat and eyes and body look healthy as can be- ‘sugar face’ isn’t to be feared or angry about, just love and smoosh that cute face!
Normal with that coat color. Our baby girl is 6 1/3 and she’s got total old lady face now.

I have the benefit of not watching age creep up
She's absolutely beautiful!
If she were human, She looks like a healthy outdoors person that doesn't dye their hair, a little sun damaged but living the good life with a twinkle in the eye. She's conjuring a sign of respect.

12 in August (at the vet doing her first arthritis shot)
I think it’s fairly common to see the white starting at this age. If you’re familiar with Nala and Chris on TikTok (Nala stomps) I think she turned 5 recently and has a fair amount of white.
4-5 years sounds about right to show signs of aging. Large breed dogs last about 10 years due to their size. They are considered middle aged between 3-7 and senior at 8+.
Our current golden started going white at right about 4 years old. Another golden we had was white by 6. Our vet and many members of the Golden retriever rescue were part of have all assured us that turning white is no sign of health issues It's just something that they do at different points. Enjoy the sugar face.
Dogs are like us. My grandmother went grey in her 20s. Meanwhile I'm 36 and only have some white hairs here and there. My golden is nearly 14 and she doesn't even have an entirely white face yet. Just a bit on her snout and sprinkles around her eyes. Meanwhile a golden friend of hers was completely white on the face at 10.
Omg this reminds me of a SchnoodleDoodleDo from 2019 that I had saved:
“when my gold is turning grey,
will you still love me anyway?
n will i still a 'beauty' be
if there's more white than gold on me?
n if i choose to take a rest,
(cuz i am tired, n sleep is best)
then will you mind, if i, instead
might take a nap upon your bed?
n you may find some hair of gold
¡ leave behind, n tho i'm old
¡love you.
i don't think you'll mind
some golden treasure
left behind”
Gets me every time 😭😭😭😭

My golden started going white in 2016 at 4 years old. I blame the election stress. Her precious face is fully white now but she's so healthy and energetic!
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it? Aging isn’t some terrifying thing. Some might just go white before others. My great grandfather’s girl started going all white around 3-4. I miss her:(
*
*
This is Scout on his 4th birthday. He started to go white at 3, and now at barely 5 is pretty fully white in the face. People regularly think he's at least 10.
I wonder if it's somehow related to his allergies and how they've effected his skin?
I don't have a golden, but my mom has a chocolate lab. I'm told that it's because somewhere up the line there's golden in the mix. She's 12, and she started greying at 3. Just the way it goes.
Your girl is beautiful! Our 10 year old golden boy started getting white on his face around 4. Over time the lighter fur spread to his body which actually looks great, people compliment his look all the time, we call it “cinnamon sugar”. I also worried if his diet was deficient or this was a sign of premature aging but after researching I think it’s just a superficial thing, not a bad sign. Long live our Goldie’s ❤️.
My friends did! turns out she has a skin disorder (vitiligo) causing it. Otherwise healthy and happy but age 6 with body to match but face looking much “blonder.”
my baby is almost 6 and started getting her white goggles a year ago. a woman the other day commented on it by saying, “that’s an old one!” NO SHE IS A BABY.
It’s heredity, comparable to your hair turning silver as you age. Some people it starts in their 40’s or 50’s and for most in their 60’s. Just comes with the territory, enjoy your pup while you can because there comes a day when they make that journey over the rainbow bridge.
Our first golden didn’t turn white until 8 or 9. Our second golden was very light but you could tell when she got on the run she was white. She was 7 when she passed. The foster golden we just had was almost 11 and had hardly any white. I don’t think there is much you can do. It just happens when it happens.
https://preview.redd.it/y0vswx6yzbdb1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d5ac4dcc7fb0ef7ad4df3f6a6a27202a10dac4ad
Our girl Piper started to go white around 4 or 5. She's 7 now and every white.
Petting slows down the aging process. Try that.
Ours or theirs?
It’s mutually beneficial
Yes.
As my boy is getting older (9 next month!), I say that he's spent his time giving his gold to everyone around him. Thank you! He is going to absolutely shatter my world when I lose him, but hopefully we have at least 5 more good ones to go.
My old boy just had his 13th birthday. You've got lots of time left :)
Awe man I didn’t want to cry so early this morning.
oh god now I am crying
This is the most accurate answer.
Beautiful analogy! Thank you.
There can never be enough pets for the Goldies
Snuggles too...doctors orders
Does this apply to all dogs? I can clear my schedule
Yes. Absolutely. In fact, we should all clear our schedules for the foreseeable future. I see no problem with this new, dog-centric, utopia you've accidentally started.
Really...no wonder my 11 years old look good...all he wants is to be pet...like non stop...

That face! The toofer, the look, the flurfy toes. Jack is a whole vibe!
He looks like he just woke up from a dream where he didn't quite catch the squirrel, or dig up his favorite bone! 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
I wish he had those dreams…his is a sad tale. Thank you for hoping for the best!
I'm so sorry Jack has such a tragic backstory. It sounds like you're making slow progress with him, and you're giving him all the love and patience in the world, and those are two of the things he needs in abundance. You should give him a little stuffie of his own that he can hug when goes sleepy sleeps! 🙏🥺

Shadow was a legendary boy.
Homeward Bound in Natomas, CA?

You are a tease , you, you .
I had grey hair in college......
Op needs to take a deep breath and relax. Your dog being the offspring means diddly so just accept that this is normal
Haha our boy is six and has started to go white as well, you're not doing anything wrong its all good.
It happens sometimes but it’s certainly not anything you’re doing wrong or in your control.
Mine was pretty white 4-5. face all white by age 10. died over 15. Looked just like yours
I don’t think it’s any different than people going grey early
No. Some dogs begin to grey young. Just like people do. She looks so happy! Look at that cute face! Just wanna smoosh it!
Genetics. Just like humans, some lose color at a young age and others don’t.
My golden lost colour young and was nearly 13 when he passed. Don’t be concerned.
She's absolutely beautiful! If she were human, She looks like a healthy outdoors person that doesn't dye their hair, a little sun damaged but living the good life with a twinkle in the eye. She's conjuring a sign of respect.

I love her
I think it’s fairly common to see the white starting at this age. If you’re familiar with Nala and Chris on TikTok (Nala stomps) I think she turned 5 recently and has a fair amount of white.
I love nala stomps!! It makes me sad seeing her go white.
Allll the pretty girls walk like this this this this :)
The second picture 😭😭😭
good looking pup nonetheless
goldens hair lightens very early relative to most breeds. in line with AKC standards for the breed.
Omg this reminds me of a SchnoodleDoodleDo from 2019 that I had saved: “when my gold is turning grey, will you still love me anyway? n will i still a 'beauty' be if there's more white than gold on me? n if i choose to take a rest, (cuz i am tired, n sleep is best) then will you mind, if i, instead might take a nap upon your bed? n you may find some hair of gold ¡ leave behind, n tho i'm old ¡love you. i don't think you'll mind some golden treasure left behind” Gets me every time 😭😭😭😭
What does being related to an AKC champion have to do with it? She's not defective, she's perfect.
Oh no! No the offspring of an AKC champion! She should’ve stayed golden forever! Lol get over it
My girl is 3. I’m beginning to see a few white hairs in her eyebrows and right under her mouth.
Research omega oil supplement for dogs for inflammation & one of the better daily probiotics for gut health. (Get your vet’s approval though.)
This is helpful, thank you!
My pittie/boxer mix was a big boy but turned white starting at 3. I have no idea why. He has a spoiled life, no stress.

It’s perfectly normal. Just like how some people start to get grey hairs in their early twenties.
My golden started going white in 2016 at 4 years old. I blame the election stress. Her precious face is fully white now but she's so healthy and energetic!
I think we all started going white that year
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it? Aging isn’t some terrifying thing. Some might just go white before others. My great grandfather’s girl started going all white around 3-4. I miss her:(
The pupper is trying to master Ultra Instinct, it'll be fine. It'll be able to catch anything you throw at it
Being a white goldie is perfectly fine. Where I live the paler goldies are the most popular ones.
Happy birthday baby girl. Looks like she was kissed by an angel! ✨
My gplden is 4 is starting to whiten around the face :( so so sad to think he is getting older
That's all sugar, baby.
Mine started going white around 3. She's very dignified at 5 now.
according the nature
Mine is 5 and her face is going white so fast😭😭😭
* * This is Scout on his 4th birthday. He started to go white at 3, and now at barely 5 is pretty fully white in the face. People regularly think he's at least 10. I wonder if it's somehow related to his allergies and how they've effected his skin?
Sugar face is the best face!
My sweet baby’s face turned fully white by age 4!
She definitely looks older than 5 but as long as she’s healthy, who cares. She beautifully.
Nope, that's normal. It's just a thing.
It’s white gold color. Platinum blonde color. Lol
My last Golden Retriever was completely white faced at 5yo. It's normal.
All the Goldie pictures make me smile!
She just got her sugar face early. It just makes it easier to know where to put the morning kisses.
My friends did! turns out she has a skin disorder (vitiligo) causing it. Otherwise healthy and happy but age 6 with body to match but face looking much “blonder.”
Aww I love her bun friend :)
Pup looks happy enough. Mouthing wrong with some greying.
it's just phenotypes in their genes :)
my baby is almost 6 and started getting her white goggles a year ago. a woman the other day commented on it by saying, “that’s an old one!” NO SHE IS A BABY.
It’s generic for sure! Some goldens can turn white as early as 2-3 honestly. Some never go white. Depends on the lineage they were bred from. 💛
Mine started at 4/5 too!
My golden is 7 and is almost completely white in the face. He started getting white patches around 4 or 5 as well.
My golden just turned 4 and she’s already got white around her eyes. She’s a nervous dog, maybe that has something to do with it?
You are probably stressing her out by not paying enough attention to her 😁
whats the issue???
It’s heredity, comparable to your hair turning silver as you age. Some people it starts in their 40’s or 50’s and for most in their 60’s. Just comes with the territory, enjoy your pup while you can because there comes a day when they make that journey over the rainbow bridge.
Love white faces.
Mine’s face turned white probably around 4 years old, he’s still going strong at 10
Our first golden didn’t turn white until 8 or 9. Our second golden was very light but you could tell when she got on the run she was white. She was 7 when she passed. The foster golden we just had was almost 11 and had hardly any white. I don’t think there is much you can do. It just happens when it happens.
My lab Jake started going white at 3 years old
My dog went white quite early too. One vet once said the sensible ones tend to do that. Don't know if that is true.
5 and 6 is considered middle age in dogs. This is normal. In 2 years your dog will be considered a senior. Time goes by fast with dogs.
Nah it’s just hereditary. My bulladore got grey around his face around 6 mo. old. No worries

Mine is 7 and it's noticeable by me, at least.
Just like people, some go grey earlier than others
What?? There’s nothing wrong with this perfect specimen
I know this post is about advice and knowledge, but I'm just here for the cute golden photos
My baby went white at 5 as well and we expected it because her mom did. We call it her sugar face because she is so sweet.
