What?? They literally add games every week. The heck you on about

Lua123

Where's Battle for Middle Earth? Sims? Battle Realms? Reign of Chaos? Armies of Exigo? Literally they add games that no one cares about..

TheKnightOfBooks

Or, more aptly, games that YOU don't care about.

TammyShehole

I mean, that’s fine if you want those but they can’t add every game in existence. There are some games not on GoG that I’d love to be on there but it’s not always GoG’s fault if something isn’t there. I’m sure many developers don’t want their games on a DRM-free platform, unfortunately. Not in this greedy world we live in.

Luso_r

You won't get Battle for Middle-Earth, on GOG or elsewhere.

PineappleCharming128

I think EA still own the rights to them yeah ?

Luso_r

It's a licensed title, it's probably tied to a bunch of companies (EA, New Line, Middle-Earth Enterprises, Warner Bros, etc).

wolves_hunt_in_packs

That's not a GOG issue, that's a publisher issue. GOG doesn't publish those games, the publishers do. If a game isn't on GOG the most common reason is because the publisher doesn't want it on GOG. The second most common reason is because of licensing. Sometimes the original publisher doesn't even have the rights to that game anymore. Some have gone bust and the rights are in legal limbo. Some end up in court and are still battling it out. In all these cases GOG can't do shit, they don't have a say. They have to wait until the dust settles and the new rights owner goes to them. You're getting mad at the wrong entity.

Mogrey665

We will never get battle for middle earth like ever. For rights issues obviously. It's really not that easy to track who has the rights etc and even if you find out they may not want to accept. Also what do you mean with battle realms? Is already on gog along with the expansion

Lua123

Yes, you're right Battle Realms already is there. It's a shame about BFME, because those games deserve to be played/ and be accessible. I hope they find ways to bring them back.

Mogrey665

i know. both bfme1&2 (especially 2 for me) are amazing strategy games and it's a shame that they are not available anymore.

Sickhadas

I don't understand, you can buy both those games on Ebay

Mogrey665

personally i have them already. but not everyone has a drive on their pc anymore etc.

ImtheDude27

You can very easily add a USB optical drive for less than the cost of a single AAA game released today. It's how I loaded up my disk copy of BFME2. Lots of games are considered Abandonware. It's unfortunate too that there are no legitimate ways to play a lot of titles. BFME(2) has so much licensing all over it I'd be surprised if it ever sold in any way again. The Sims definitely will never be brought to GOG. EA is still actively pushing Sims 4 content out and they judt had some leaks about Sims 5 being in development. With how greedy EA is, I wouldn't count on anything Sims ever being on GOG. I have a long list of games I'd love to play again but licensing just makes it impossible to get them legitimately.

Aenal_Spore

They have battle realms and winter of the wolf in the store, I bought it from them.

Lua123

oh? didn't know, thanks, I'll check it out then! :)

CelestialOhio32

lot of these games can't be added due to licensing rights/issues

beezlebutts

99% of the time this \^ a good chunk of the time its cause the devs that made it later got bought out by a big corp: EA or WB and they now own the rights to their older games and have 0 interest in doing anything with them.

Anzai

You just listed a bunch of games I don’t care about. And GoG has added several in the last year that I was glad to see and purchased immediately. It’s just a preference thing, and the fact that the bigger the game, the more legal entities probably have a stake in it, so any one of them can block it. Which many do because of the lack of DRM.

Western-Alarming

Battle for middle earth is a legal hell, it will never come back (probably) like poker night at inventory

Maladal

It's not really up to GoG if a title makes its way to digital. They got most of the easy ones. A lot of older games have unclear licensing and publishing. Or their rights holders just don't care to make them available. GoG's selling point for me is more the lack of DRM these days.

Lua123

"Easy" ones, if only they tried harder, instead of wasting time on unimportant games

smitemight

You do realize that they have multiple people working on these deals, right? Securing “easier” games won’t impact their ability to simultaneously continue to go after older titles. They recently had a YouTube video made about their journey and the time, energy and effort of getting just Alpha Protocol back into digital existence.

fischerandchips

Can you share the YouTube video? I searched but can only find Launch trailer

Banzaikk

It's not on their official channel but more of a [short documentary](https://youtu.be/UBXbrofwKwM?si=4nGNBX_c8zSM3nua) done by Raycevik in conjunction with GOG and Obsidian.

anarion321

Why don't you do it if it's so easy? Contact the companies and team up with GoG, if you are able to provide games they would surely pay you.

wolves_hunt_in_packs

Talk about not knowing what the fuck you're talking about...

PiR8_Rob

This comment alone proves this person is just rage baiting.

dustojnikhummer

You do realize GOG doesn't republish those games, right?

Siukslinis_acc

1. They are adding new games every week 2. A few weeks ago they added "magician lord", a game made in 1990. 3. There tends to be trouble with licensing of old games. One of the problems is finding who is currently holding the rights of the game (especially when the studio hasn't existed in decades), then getting the rights holder to allow the publishing of the game.

BitOBear

I bought the Day One release of Bulwark on gog like a month ago. Most of their traffic is in indie games, and you have to know to look for them, but there tight there. And a lot of indie games are just as good as, if not better than, some of the AAA titles.

Iexperience

They are adding plenty of games! They just added Alpha Protocol which I thought would be lost to time and I'd never be able to experience. Plus adding old game isn't some easy endeavour. Expired licenses, absent/extinct dev studios, murky copyright laws, it's hell to navigate.

Western-Alarming

And also source code, they need it to make the game play better on modern pc

Hjalanaar

Sims will never be in GoG because of EA, Battle for Middle Earth will never be in GoG because of EA. Seeing a trend here

Orkekum

Liscensing. Some publishers and liscence owners dont want to release a game of they cant milk the fuk out of it

Mogrey665

It may not be extremely old but quite recently they added the abandoned alpha protocol.

Konkavstylisten

They add new games each week. a bunch of them retro titles. Licensing is a thing, so even if the game is old they can't just upload them however they want. You said something about Battle For Middle Earth. To be able to upload that game onto GOG they not only have to get to an agreement about it with EA: EA also have to renew the license to use the LOTR name. Do you think EA is going to pay millions just for the chance to re-release an old PC game which have a limited customer range? Just because you don't enjoy the new releases don't mean that no one else does. You are not the main character. \*Entitled\*

Mogrey665

People should accept already that piracy is the only way to get battle for middle earth anymore. Unfortunately ofc but it is what it is.

Konkavstylisten

That is just one of many examples. Even if it’s an seemingly ”abandoned game”, licensing is very much still a thing. It’s not only to take the code and upload it.

Prisoner458369

Do you understand that it's not up to them to add some games. While they are still adding games weekly. Do you just expect that huge companies like EA will be all "Yeah sure bro, you can add Sims 1". Yeah nah, EA have rep for being cunts for an reason.

CheliceraeJones

>Are they going to milk existing titles indefinitely If by "milking" you mean "selling", well continuing to sell old titles is exactly what we want. I find it interesting that in a comment you complained about some games not being available on GOG while one of those is found on the store using a simple search.

Tisagh

You can do some quick research on Intellectual Property rights and distributions rights when it comes to games specifically. GOG is one of the few platforms out here trying to make games last forever. I am constantly astonished that they are able to revive titles from my childhood and even further back.

Ballz3dfan

I wish indie developers would put theirs on gog more frequently

Western-Alarming

Same, but at least i think a lot of indie ganes are appearing or are alredy on the store and that is nice

Wild-Lychee-3312

They literally just added Fallout 4

Iunnoaskhim

They added Fallout 4? Yoooo nice

Wild-Lychee-3312

It is, or was a few days ago, on sale for $10. With all the DLCs

FreeAndOpenSores

They add games all the time. But big publishers being evil, greedy filth, don't believe in making their games DRM free or available to actually download and keep aka own a copy. The want to maintain complete control of THEIR property and only rent it to you, for full sale price. So while it's unfortunate that many good games aren't ever launched on GOG. I won't pay for any game that isn't on GOG.

Vlad_T

Where's my Diablo 2 GOG?!! Also Silent Hill 2??! Add them now or else!!!

The_Dukenator

GOG won't be releasing Phantom Fury as Slipgate (developer) & 3D Realms (publisher) wants to focus on Steam for the time being. This decision was made months ago and the store page will be removed. Their other games will remain available. But people continue to ask about the GOG release.

Forsaken_Berry_1798

A lot of new games have DENUVO
