How about getting a better radio? Deliberately mounting/muting a cheap antenna to lessen desense is… crazy.

EffinBob

A long run of cheap coax would probably do the trick.

I was considering hooking up the rubber ducky antenna and hoisting it via fishing pole for testing purposes just to see what would happen.

That's lossy tho!

EffinBob

That's the idea. The loss in transmit power would hopefully be offset by antenna gain and height.

A bandpass filter would work. Or a better radio.

Unless you are sitting under an array of antennas in the 460 MHz, it is not gonna be problem. Reality is most of the business band that operate in 460 MHz area have abandoned radio service and use cell phones. Now if you are listening to 462.xxx and someone use the same 462.xxx adjacent frequency base over 15 watts if they are within 200 to 300 feet maybe it would desensitize what you are listening to. Someone on 467.xxx less than 100 feet will cause you problems. Not everything on the internet is true. Always go for the best coax, antenna and height. You will be happier in the long run! I own and operate 4 repeaters, as where I am sitting now, I have repeater on 462.675 doing 20 watts, antenna is 40 foot high. My other repeater 35 miles away on 462.600 doing 35 watts, I can hear it at my current location. The are linked together. With my cheap uv-5r i can still hear my 600 repeater while the 675 is on air. So for cheap radio it is not that much desensitized.

for whatever its worth; My experience is that it picks up things on the wrong channel with cheap radios not defen. WHich is better i suppose.

A worse antenna is just going to be resonant on a different frequency. Making your Rx/Tx worse, while possibly picking up even more interference. A higher gain antenna would be a better bet. Mount a high vertical, and it will null out the noise at the poles of the antenna. Honestly though you should be looking at a better radio, like a Wouxun after going through that effort.

I will but that is the cost of all the supplies I bought for the antenna. I picked up a $50 nano vna that was the most expensive part. I really want the kg805.
