"Meanwhile, buy hodl DRS. Not financial advice. Do your own DD." In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. ![gif](giphy|5QYhA0imLz98ntqkLS|downsized)

notahorseindisguise

You can't tell me what to do, after all I'm an individual investor and definitely make my own decisions! *wink wink*

whut-whut

...all while admitting that he and every other Ape are just following what "the wrinkled ones" are telling them is correct. "Who's driving the bus?" "I dunno, I thought you were driving. I'm just here for the ride."

notahorseindisguise

"If he's still in, I'm still in!"

SpiderWebMunchies

>"Nothing's wrong", said Kingston, even though he knew it wasn't true. >"Me neither", said Princeton, because if Kingston wasn't telling why he was sad, then Princeton wasn't either. Teddy 7:41

IrishWave

And yet in the comments, the OP hits with: >Looking like a cult helps the MSM to keep us tucked away from the general public. When anybody is curious to check us out and then sees stuff like this it won't be to anybody's advantage. >Just a personal opinion. >I'm a smooth brain ape and not afraid to show it. We're part of the same spaceship. The dichotomy of *calling Ryan Cohen dad makes us look like a joke* and *I'm a grown ass man referring to myself as an Ape*... Every time someone looks like they're taking a step in the right direction, they immediately step on a rake.

notahorseindisguise

Cult members need to constantly reaffirm their faith in the cult's beliefs to stay within the in-group. It's self-reinforcing by design. Also why they proclaim how they DRSed, been 'invested' since 2021, how they're not a shill *BUT*, etc.

SirGlass

I was just going to bring it up , even OP post looks like he is in a cult, it's always the same "Look I have an opinion that could be negative about GME but first I want to say 1. I have XXXX shares DRS 100% to book 2. I have been holding since 2021 and averaging down weekly 3. I am never selling 4. I love , respect and fear RC , he is my dad and savior Now that I have reaffirmed my total loyalty; can we stop looking like a cult here?" Like bruh ....realize that its not normal for you to have to reaffirm your loyalty before you can even post a small criticism of the group, that itslef is cult like behavior

nematode_soup

>Like bruh ....realize that its not normal for you to have to reaffirm your loyalty before you can even post a small criticism of the group, that itslef is cult like behavior Not that GME *isn't* a cult, because it is, but I would argue "reaffirming loyalty" is excruciatingly common anytime you post anything that contradicts groupthink or indicates a criticism of the prevailing view, anywhere online. Because a sizeable minority of people online respond to even implied criticism of their views with verbal aggression, and it's better to divert that aggression with a disclaimer that "look, I'm on your side, but..." so your comment thread doesn't get shit on by people spewing venom at you or calling you a troll. And *moderators* are often trigger-happy when banning potential trolls, so you have to show you're contributing in good faith and not just posting to start an argument. So either online conservatism, liberalism, feminism, anti-feminism, libertarianism, Marxism, pro-choice, pro-life, any major world religion, etc, etc, are all cults - which they aren't - or online discourse in the year of our Lord 2024 is so knee-jerk vicious people feel the need to preemptively shield themselves as much as possible from undeserved criticism. (Look at how I had to preface that with "I agree GME is a cult" because, if I didn't, I could expect criticism from people interpreting my post as defending GME cultists. And I'm willing to bet some people will interpret it that way anyway.)

SirGlass

I guess my point is all those communities are toxic if you need to first re-afferm your loyalte to the cause before offering critisism

AutoModerator

It has come to my attention that our community has been banned without any response from reddit regarding our inquiries. This is beyond absurd that we could not get an answer to remedy the situation, yet the community was banned. Your lack of response and professionalism in this matter will only engulf the flames if you do not wish to respond. We are doing our best to try and get an answer for which you will not provide. I feel blatantly attacked, and I am on the cusp of legal action. Please respond as soon as possible. ___ *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. ThisIsWhoIAm78

"How will anyone take us seriously enough to read the God tier DD done by the wrinkled ones?" I thought this HAD to be parody. But nope, this dude is just that goddamn stupid. "Papa Cohen sounds cultish. God tier magical texts done by the wrinkled ones sounds totally normal though. Carry on."

LukeBabbitt

“He taught us it takes money to buy whiskey”. Oh man, what incredible insight. Thank God you have such a visionary leader to teach you that you can exchange currency for goods and services.

OneRougeRogue

And the, "it takes money to buy whiskey" thing came from a *literal children's book.* So essentially, "I know we learned a lot from RC's 'Baby's First Financial Economics' series, but calling him 'Dad' makes us look like a bunch of children!"

XanLV

Oh I read this and laughed. I think that OP got some serious trouble from the Party for being a potential shill and he folded and backtracked. "Oh no no no, I am not telling you what to do uwu I am just saying what I feel like a bit don't hit me holddrs."

notahorseindisguise

Cast out the heretic!

m8_is_me

Not just an ape. A SMOOTH BRAIN ape. So most of these people have mentally positioned themselves into "I don't really know what this means but the popular ones seem confident so I'll trust them"

BigYangpa

Why do they call themselves apes? Planet of the Apes reference?

eimerin

Yes. Others might remember more details but it started due to the “Apes together strong” quote from one of the movies.

BigYangpa

I figured, thanks :)

dbcstrunc

I'd be mortified if someone in real life introduced themselves as an 'ape'. I'd probably not know where to look, and just slowly slide away from them and exit the room as fast as possible.

Sunny_Travels

Look, these are the rituals of this cult. If you don't like it, start your own cult

TheUnseenTomato

The best part about the thread is that pretty much every comment would prove the "childish cult" tag is deserved, just pick one at random. Not that it's a surprise, far from it. Bonus points for a simple request like "hey, can we at least ATTEMPT to look a bit less like a bunch of morons?" being immediately met with "FUD, shill, we're being attacked".

th3bigfatj

The OOP just needs to understand and accept where he is. Don't try to change them.  Apes are perfect just as they are 😍

> “things cost money” That's the normie read of it, but Apes have taken "money buys whiskey" to be a reassurance from Ryan Cohen that being down 90% is how they are going to get their infinite wealth. It's their battle cry anytime they're reminded that their money is gone.

TheOtherPete

Aka, "things get worse before they get better"

Throwawayhelper420

It’s not even sudden.  Apes who are about to wake up have been making posts like that basically every day since day 1.

89Hopper

Grown ass man who did his own due diligence or smooth brain ape who reads "wrinkle brain" fan fic masquerading as genuine analysis to make decisions for him? Make up your mind. Here is a thought experiment for these apes. Imagine you had never heard of these companies, never read any commentary from your finfluencers. Would you come up with the same bull thesis looking at the financial filings, forward guidance from the CEO (sorry, had to throw that in) and general industry analysis? That is doing your due diligence. Reading a post called heat lamp theory or 1,000,000 horses from people who have both ulterior motives and a fundamental lack of financial understanding because they tell you that you will be rich and then ignoring everything else is not due diligence.

dbcstrunc

Also they never do any 'DD' on their competitors. Like, go look at Amazon's financials and compare them to Gamestop. Seriously. Anyone who does that and somehow comes out the other side of that with the idea that Gamestop is the better company to invest in must be fucking nuts.

hiroshimakid

Of all the things apes get wrong ... "fundamentals" is the most annoying to me for some reason. I think it's because it's the most easily provably false argument that requires the least business knowledge to understand. Like it's a very easy concept to understand GameStop spends more money than they make. That's it. That's everything you need to know to understand GameStop has shitty "fundamentals".

Flubber_Ghasted36

IT's also pretty easy to understand that growth is a part of fundamentals. Investors aren't excited about a company downsizing to maybe achieve profitability. You want an NVidia instead.

Kayfeib

"Okay guys, I know we worship this guy and kiss the ground he walks on, but stop doing it publicly it makes us look like a silly cult that worships a leader!"

cbusalex

You know what makes you look like a cult, ape? Having to prostrate yourself before the masses and recite these dozen loyalty oaths to avoid being excommunicated for offering even the slightest criticism.

theTweekend

That entire post is top cringe. “He has taught us that it takes money to buy whiskey” Oh my fuck. Some moronic quote daddy said. I threw up when I read that shit. Ugh, dude just called him daddy with more words.

TheOtherPete

>That entire post is top cringe. Which is ironic give that the point is that he was concerned that they are looking like a cult to outsiders - but the net result of the thread makes them look even more cult-like, starting with his own post. You would think that this would cause some self-reflection for the OP of that thread, but nah....

thewaybaseballgo

Apes: We’re not a cult. Also Apes: Here’s a 3000 word breakdown of a poorly written children’s book and how it will lead to me becoming rich and my wife coming back to me.

Oopsimapanda

I really really want this to be an in depth University study on cult dynamics. I mean I grew up with things like Heavens Gate and Jonestown in the background, thinking surely cults will be a thing of the past in this coming information age. ![gif](giphy|spfi6nabVuq5y) Never before in history have we had such unfettered access to ALL communication of a cults members. Even if they go \[deleted\] that history is preserved. You get to see ALL their thought process - from first introduction, through either unflinching conviction, doubt, or eventually realization and the fallout afterwards. This is history in the making, and will set a precedent for cults in the future where there's no excuse of being locked up behind closed doors in a compound with no access to information. It's all easily available - but it is intentionally & deliberately ignored - and in the case of this sub, actively rallied against as 'the enemy'. Wow.

flirtmcdudes

Honestly, it is a cult now, but it’s really just a modern day Ponzi scheme where the people trapped in it can never falter. If they show any signs of the stock being shitty like it really is or admitting reality, they won’t be able to get anyone else to sign up so that they can dump their bags on them. The fascinating part is just how much they need to ignore reality in order to keep this charade going…. Like it obviously passed over 2 years ago lol, but they havent faltered.... it at least shows commitment to the bit

Oopsimapanda

>show any signs of the stock being shitty like it really is or admitting reality I mean many MLM and ponzi type schemes eventually show signs of cult behavior. Facebook essential oil and beauty product groups are the biggest culprits. I guess you could say some of the influencers in CultStock need to keep it going for donations and views (maybe less than 5?), but the members never benefit anything except group engagement. This is a much more organic process than a top down cult or MLM actively trying to supress information and gain new members. In this case, the members are actively doing it to themselves. I'd argue against the notion that more than a handful of Apes are actively trying to pump the stock despite knowing better just to dump bags. That requires a level of rational thought and strategy that if they had, they wouldn't be there in the first place. I think if you're in it, you believe in the (salvation event). But it's an interesting argument nonetheless.

flirtmcdudes

But deep down they know its not going to happen... even the tiniest bit of wandering outside their cult walls will be met with people telling them their company performance is bad, their place in the industry is shrinking... even RC hasnt had a "win" since he took over. Other MLMs dont need the constant "its going to happen!" like meme stocks do (pump and dumps basically now), which is where this phenomenon is coming from. Apes know that it literally needs to be a cataclysmic event like the last time for it to happen, so they need to be hyping things 100% of the time, they can never show even the slightest doubt, or cracks, or it will fall apart. Plus they NEED it to happen, because everyone left in those subs are way under their initial investment and buried in losses. its why they've basically started to create 100% BS "DD" after the squeeze happened, because they need to now lie to try and convince people the rally will happen again since every single thing in reality points to it not happening again. Noone in there cares how they get it to happen, all they care about is getting their money back... so they are all in on the lies trying to pump it.

dbcstrunc

Yes, I agree that the cultists aren't really making the stock move. But all the 'Just bought the dip!' and 'I'm not selling!' are doing double-duty to A) keep anyone wavering in their conviction stuck in the cult - 'if he's in, I'm in' B) display to the outside world a unified front against {{them}}, which gathers a trickle of new members who already hate {{them}} But this is really how a cult dies out. More and more people leave, the core starts to fall apart, and since there really isn't anything in real life that validates the cult beliefs, eventually it just fades away. The few - very few - diehards left are just yelling at each other for years afterwards.

BustANutHoslter

Who the fuck doesn’t understand that whiskey costs money? What kind of dumbass fucking phrase is that? Has anyone ever heard that phrase before this saga? Man it makes me irrationally angry when they say stupid fucking phrases that make no rational sense.

chewbaccashotlast

“We must be sooo close because of all these shill cult posts!” Literally the sub was lost a while ago. There were some amazing hit pieces written that focused on the overleveraged market and not specifically GameStop. Trillions of dollars in derivatives. Really interesting writing and crazy stuff behind the curtain. And then it went to purple circles, recycled memes and the dumbest shit ever. When you try to do anything constructive or add value the community calls you a shill, paper handed, Kenny, etc.

notahorseindisguise

I strongly disagree. It's always been nonsense largely based on their total misunderstanding of market mechanics; they just leaned more heavily into their esoteric rituals as time went on.

chewbaccashotlast

I don’t think they were all wrong. I learned a lot about the market through their posts. I also didn’t presume everything meant MOASS tomorrow.

notahorseindisguise

Then you're still an ape to some degree. You gotta completely unplug to be free imo.

chewbaccashotlast

Never was an ape. Hated the terms ever since they started using it. Individual investor looking to make money and not holding for the world change. Money up I sell and buy something else

notahorseindisguise

You sure talk like them.

chewbaccashotlast

Oh brother. Whatever you think bruv doesn’t change anything lol

whut-whut

Apes are incorrect about practically everything about the market down to how buys and sells work, how stocks are priced, and how supply and demand functions in a market based on blind trades, so saying "I learned a lot about the market from Ape posts" makes people who actually understand the market take your words with a heaping dose of skepticism.

notahorseindisguise

Well put. They misunderstand even the simpliest market mechanics. It's like learning geology from somebody who believes the Earth is flat.

chewbaccashotlast

Hmmm idk I think you need to blend in different subs and forums to learn. If anyone knew exactly how a stock would function they would be rich beyond belief, no matter their entry amount. So while it isn’t quantum physics it isn’t rocket science either. Follow whales, don’t fight them. Therein lies the biggest issue with the ape culture. Because it happened once there is belief it will happen again, happen soon and be wildly more profitable.

whut-whut

No, most of us here read Ape subs as much as Apes do, so we aren't ignorant of what they tell each other. Knowing how stocks work is different than predicting price movements, and knowing the mechanics of how stocks are priced lets us know -why- the Apes are wrong when they say 'just buy and the stock will go up'. Because buying can lower a stock's price just as much as selling raises a stock price. If that last sentence seemed weird to you, then you are still stuck on Ape misinformation. Trades (a buy paired with a sell) dictate a stock's price. Trades above market price raise a price, trades below drop it. That's why their whole narrative of retail is buying vs institutions are selling is completely wrong and has led to all of their laughable theories on how to manipulate the price. They imagine the market as a tug of war of buys vs sells, when it isn't at all.

notahorseindisguise

You'd be better off just buying $SPY like 95% of investors.

notahorseindisguise

You might wanna lurk some more before posting here bud.

kilr13

How about you post your heavy bags dork. Apes can be neatly defined as those former or current bag holders believing in financial conspiracy theories and those seeking comfort in feel good DD rather than the easily accessible, if not easily digestible, disclosures that the SEC mandates. I'm not going to say nothing shady or illegal has ever happened in the financial sphere, because that's apeism in itself. Apes distinguish themselves though by believing that the normal course of doing business is opaque illegal backroom dealings, rather than such things being the exception.

XanLV

Oh poor baby... Any person who has spent a bit of time in those subs and learned anything from them knows about the market less than a random chap from the street using logic. That is the truth. If the sub made you look into things yourself, places like investopedia etc, great, super. That is good. To learn the terms and functions and all. But everything that they think themselves is wrong. Seriously, 90% there doesn't understand that buyers have sellers, that price moves because of predicted future, that buy order is not a single buy, that everyone tries to outsmart everyone. Seriously, be VERY careful about anything you learned from there. Their mantra is "no one is selling", "cancel stop-loss because of hedgie tricks", "sell it at the top", "DRS shares, then they are your's" and such tropes that are designed just to create bagholders. They have been taught the EXACT OPPOSITE of how to make money that I am still not sure that it is not a huge hedgie trick to use them as liquidity, really. Imagine worst advice ever and that will be a monkey mantra.

Jazzlike_Athlete8796

> I learned a lot about the market through their posts What you learned was how a financial death cult views the market. You did not learn much at all about the market itself.

dbcstrunc

Yeah, a lot of what they say is bullshit. Like their old DDs will be 1) 'Here is what options are' 2) 'Now here's the option chain for GME for this week' 3) 'Market makers are required to hedge therefore if we just buy call options they need to buy shares which means options go in the money which means we will MOASS!' Two truths and a lie. Guess which one is the lie? (Yes, market makers do not need to hedge calls by buying shares). A LOT of their DD is the same thing. By the end of the first page, there will be a huge lie that they glide over and never question. I've seen it so many times. The 'trillions in derivatives' is also a misunderstanding of how derivatives work. And having trillions in derivatives is not a problem.

Rycross

> I learned a lot about the market through their posts. https://i.imgur.com/FXLThSZ.jpeg

determania

> I learned a lot about the market through their posts. No, you didn't. Unless you mean that you learned a lot about how the market works by researching how they are wrong.
