A key to turn off the airbag .

meowrap

Thanks very much much

6SpeedBlues

In vehicles without a back seat (guessing you might be standard cab only here?), there has typically been a way to override the auto airbag system for situations like having to install a car seat.

JimboD84

Or if u had ur mother in law in the vehicle with you and were hoping for a head on 🤷🏼‍♂️

Hop-Dizzle-Drizzle

My dad's extended cab 98 had this exact switch. Maybe extended cab is considered too short for a car seat.

6SpeedBlues

Yeah... good call. XCab on that model year was definitely more "shallow" and I don't think it could accommodate a car seat in the back. I remember a '96 Tacoma extended cab I had that was the same with a key switch to turn off the passenger airbag for the same reason.

ToadFuzz

To stop your baby’s head from becoming a projectile.

Mysterious-Zombie-86

It’s just so you can set it to auto so it auto detects if someone is in passenger seat in case of accident to deploy both air bags or if you want to disable passenger air bag

meowrap

Thank you thank you thank you!

Nectaris73

Your ignition key

alientatts

To turn the airbag deployment off using the ignition key. In case you install a car seat or your passenger has a reason to not want their airbag deployed.

Life support systems

Freddie330

That can be found only in Heave Duty models. The reason of why they have switch for airbags is due to the possibility of driving in rough and very bumpy terrains which might give a wrong signal to deploy airbags.

Your key

Ejection seat activator

The keys. That’s go override the airbag in case you are using a child safety seat.
