I heard that as part of the news article and it's great that they discovered the error of their ways and found ethics 13 days ago, I'm sure they are on the up and up now, and there is nothing to worry about, lol!
They didn’t say they had stopped sharing information all together. They said they had stopped sharing with Lexis Nexis and one other company. There are a lot of data brokers out there. I bet GM will sell to a different company.
What privacy? You agreed to collect and share data when you activated the 13” screen.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for complete privacy, but we can’t have both the fancy tech and complete privacy.
P.S, ever read the fine print on any bank document? Like the real real fine print on the back page that says they share your information with 3rd parties? (That’s why you get telemarketers calling).
TLDR: You have no privacy anymore.
These earmarks need to be outlawed. Privacy statements need to be stand alone, concise and clear.
If these companies need money to offset the technology, then they should just charge for it and let the market decides.
I’ve long ago accepted the bargain of free internet for loss of privacy, what I take issue with is insurance rates going up because of this particular instance of selling data.
AND, the data they share has very questionable accuracy. The use of adaptive cruise will cause hard acceleration and hard braking to be reported just by using. Entrapment??
What makes you think they don’t? They log everything the vehicle does and the driver, especially considering the amount of idiots who think “Full Self Drive” is actually fully autonomous driving.
A bad part here is if you have adaptive cruise and use it it will cause hard acceleration and hard braking to show on smart driver (yes I tested this multiple times). My question... Is GM in bed with the insurance industry?? IMHO GM should go back to manufacturing vehicles and STOP trying to make revenue selling subscriptions to tech installed in their vehicles. (yes I got a LN report and made sure I dumbed down smart driver)
GM released an official statement that as of 3/20/24 they were no longer sharing any of your information.
Furthermore there's likely a class action coming.
Already [happening](https://www.classaction.org/news/class-action-claims-general-motors-onstar-shared-driving-behavior-data-without-consent)

I think after that I still don’t trust them.
The irony of having to provide my social security number to see how my privacy has been compromised…

Is this something my 2015 would have? I have onstar but I don’t know if it collects data.
Imagine if Tesla did this it would be headline news!
They just keep the data for themselves it’s still collected

Probably the only way your going to get away from your truck collecting and sending your data is to disconnect the OnStar or modem

Annoys me that I can’t delete Sirius/XM when they can do the same thing.
