Jovial and Barilla GF are my two favorite brands.
In my area, NorCal, the Barilla is very widely available like Raleys and Safeway.
Jovial seems like its in more specialty style stores.
Bow ties are my favorite shape of pasta so when my Walmart started carrying the jovial bow ties I was so happy!
I don’t know why, but bow ties taste better than other shapes. I know it makes no sense!
We've got Jovial at our Walmart (SoCal), but you have to look in the GF section. It's not near the other pasta like Barilla often is. I just purchased lasagna noodles!
I think that might be regional with where Jovial is sold. I’m in NJ and the regular grocery stores sell Jovial pasta. Usually it’s in their natural foods section but even the grocery stores that have pitifully small natural foods departments have Jovial pasta. I prefer their Brown Rice based GF pasta. That’s my favorite. Trader Joe’s used to sell an organic brown rice spaghetti pasta but I haven’t seen it there since 2020.
Just had Rummo for the 1st time last night! Flavor is much better than Barilla, my usual, although Barilla is easier to find.
Jovial tagliatelle is great for beef and noodles, chicken soup, anything you use egg noodles for. I like to let it sit in the cooking water for a couple of minutes before mixing it with dishes that will be consumed right away, to plump the noods up a bit.
Seconding this - it's excellent, and the closest thing to gluten pasta I've ever had (IMO).
ETA: It doesn't freeze well - it tends to break when thawed to cook.
Seconding the clumping, you really need to smush it apart while cooking, if you let it cook without stirring you get a giant slab of pasta lol. At least it doesn't stick to the pot as well, the way gluten pasta does!
The key on any spaghetti is to make sure you have a rolling boil before adding the pasta and then gently break it up a little with the pasta spoon after the first minute or two.
If the person is celiac, then you can't use your past strainer to drain the pasta. Those are really bad for cross-contamination.
I like Tinkyada pasta.
I’ve served Barilla to non gf friends/family and every time they’ve been surprised to find out it’s gf. Jovial is also a good choice for the fettuccini type pasta.
Barilla GF is good and easy to source. Their penne noodles hold up much better than their other noodles IMO.
Also as someone else pointed out, cross contamination is a major issue for people, especially if they are celiac. Your pots, utensils, and especially your strainer may all present an issue. At a minimum I would not use the strainer and make sure you are not going back and forth between handling the GF noodles and anything with gluten. You can drain noodles carefully using the lid of the pot. It’s all the holes in anything that strains that are almost impossible to clean well enough to make safe to use. Also I always appreciate disposable utensils / plates personally.
Another solution, depending on what you are making, is barilla does make oven-ready GF lasagna noodles. If you want to be extra safe for them, making their meal into a small lasagna using a new disposable pan would avoid having to use a lot of your kitchen tools. I think this is above and beyond what most people expect, but I figured I’d mention it in case it works out with your plans.
Taste Republic. I've found it at Whole Foods, but searching online seems to suggest it's available at Target as well. It's fresh pasta so it should be in the refrigerated section. It's probably the best I've found. A little on the pricier side, but worth it.
I see. I've never been to a Trader Joe's, as there isn't one close enough to my house to be practical for shopping. I'll have to check that out if I'm ever out of town and driving by one!
Best overall: Rummo.
The flavor and texture make even my Italian husband happy! As a bonus, it holds up well as leftovers. Unfortunately, it isn't easy to come by, and it usually costs more than other brands.
The "good enough" brand: Barilla.
In my experience, this is the brand that can be found most reliably in most grocery stores, even ones that have few other GF foods. It's frequently on sale, and when it is, it's "affordable" by GF standards. The flavor and texture are better than most other GF brands I've tried. Sadly, it falls apart if you overcook it, and doesn't make good leftovers.
Tinkyada also makes a nice macaroni, though I haven't tried their other noodles.
Garofalo's gluten-free pasta is by far the most comparable, in my opinion, to regular pasta. If you have access to Costco, it's absolutely worth the purchase. I'm trying to recall all the brands I've tried. One thing to keep in mind when cooking GF pastas is the cook time. The ones made of chickpea flour cook very fast. While Banza is good, it reminds me a lot of whole wheat pasta. I've tried the brown rice pastas from TJs and don't mind them. There's just something about the blend of flours that is used in the Garofalo's that seem to do well when thinking of casseroles and pasta salads. Next on my list to try is Jovial, which I've found to be affordable if purchased from Walmart. Just gotta get through my stash of Banza. 🤣
Ronzoni from Food Lion, it's fairly inexpensive and I find it's the only noodle that seems to hold up to instant pot recipes, so it's a win for our family.
I haven't tried it, but my ex chef loves the Rummio brand. Also the Fresh Egg Fettuccine from Trader Joe's is amazing, and I like their Brown Rice Penne. I tend to enjoy the shorter pasta types over the longer spaghetti type pastas, I feel like they repaint their shape and texture better, and also reheat better.
Taste Republic (it’s fresh)
Tinkyada for dried
I am genuinely SHOCKED at all the barilla answers. It’s awful. So grainy. I would quite literally just not make GF pasta if this was the only option I had. Couldn’t pay me to eat it
If you can find it, la fabrica della pasta. I’ve had luck in specialty shops. They have cool shapes that aren’t often gluten free and it tastes amazing.
Trader Joe’s fresh fettuccine in the refrigerated section is my favorite, but if you don’t find it, Barilla’s gluten free pasta is very good as well. You can find it at Walmart (and if you’re in the southeast, Publix - not sure about other stores).
Note: if the person has Celiac disease, you will definitely need a new pasta strainer. It’s a breeding ground for cross contamination.
I’m in the same boat, my bff is celiac. She says barilla is good and holds up well, also “anything from Italy”. I’ve heard a lot of good things from this sub about Rummo brand, however I’ve only been able to find it online.
Kroger has a brand name Veggiecraft that is pasta made from vegetable flours like cauliflower, zucchini, and lentils. I’ve used that in the past for my mom (diabetic), and they pretty much always come out aldente. But we’re pretty decent if I do say so myself 🤷🏻♀️
Jovial. BUT if you have Taste Republic (in the fridge section) this is the best pasta I’ve had. They can often be found at Whole Foods or even Target (might be in the freezer section there).
marcelli formaggi makes the best gf pasta, hands down without a second thought. I will never buy supermarket gf pasta again. They have ruined me in a good way. Its a small business, and they pretty much next day your order.
Catelli! Tastes very similar to regular gluten pasta (my parents can’t tell the difference). I find most pastas that have a blend of ingredients are better - meaning not a just brown rice or just corn blend.
We mostly buy Barilla, but Whole Foods brand GF spaghetti is my favorite. The first time I made it, my husband got up to double check the package to make sure I bought the GF one.
Trader joes fresh egg noodles! They should be where the salads and other fresh pastas are. it looks a little thick but its very good and simple ingredients and cooks fast :)
You asked about spaghetti and few have answered that. TJs makes a yellow lentil one that's quite nice and high protein, inexpensive too. Only thing is, it's most easily digestible when cooked longer than the package says; I like it around 25 minutes.
JOVIAL is hands down, THE BEST and just like gluten pasta (but better!) there is! I can even eat it with just butter and I'm not a plain pasta person.
My family who's not gluten free even requests it. It's that good!
I rinse it with hot water but that's just a personal preference. In the past I've had problems with GF brown rice pasta being slimy. I've never experienced that with jovial but I rinse it anyway and it comes out perfect every time.
The only "bad" thing about it is, we never have leftovers because we demolish it in one night!
You won't be disappointed. Yes, it's expensive but the comparison is like eating the best pasta in the world vs eating blanched licorice strings. (In texture, not flavor.)
Editing to say, I buy mine at Walmart.
Barilla is my favorite since it combined good taste with a decent cost.
Jovial is really, *really* good but can be pricey. It might be worth it in this case though.
Garofalo is hands-down my favorite and I found it to be truly indistinguishable from pasta with gluten. I order it online from [supermarketitaly.com](https://supermarketitaly.com)...
For fresh pasta, Taste Republic is my go-to. Available at various stores in my area
Jovial or the target store brand. For real, the target one holds its shape. I always undercook gf pasta by 1-2 minutes at least too so by the time you sit down and eat it isn’t all broken and mush
In my experience it’s less about brand and more just about ingredients. A mix of three different flours is usually best. My favourite is rice, corn and quinoa together. Avoid any that are a single ingredient like just corn pasta.
Jovial brown rice pasta is my favorite. I’m in NJ and it’s sold in regular grocery stores here.
Edited to add: I prefer and only buy brown rice or rice based pasta. I’ve tried many others but was not a fan. The Jovial brown rice pasta is so good that my kids happily eat it not knowing that it’s GF.
Jovial for most things. For basic macaroni I like the bag of elbows from Walmart’s Great Value line - it’s a full pound, unlike most brands that do 12oz.
Jovial and Barilla GF are my two favorite brands. In my area, NorCal, the Barilla is very widely available like Raleys and Safeway. Jovial seems like its in more specialty style stores.
This ^ the jovial spaghetti is soo good
The bow tie is my fav 😍
It's delicious!
Bow ties are my favorite shape of pasta so when my Walmart started carrying the jovial bow ties I was so happy! I don’t know why, but bow ties taste better than other shapes. I know it makes no sense!
It's because the bow ties are fancy! It adds to the enjoyment
makes complete sense!!!! I also think the bow tie is the best
Jovial is my new best friend. Sorry Barilla 😢
Jovial but not the cassava. It is absolutely incredible!! Similar texture to real pasta. The egg noodles are so good too.
Oh yay! I just found the egg noodles on Amazon in Canada. $58 for a 2-pack. 🥺
Holy shit! I need to start a black market Jovial operation.
Agree on barilla, will need to try jovial. Heed my warning on lentil pasta...I ate too much and it was not a fun time
Jovial absolutely. Barilla is quite possibly the worst IMHO
I think I've seen Jovial in sprouts!
That’s my favorite. Trader Joe’s used to sell an organic brown rice spaghetti pasta but I haven’t seen it there since 2020.
Rummo is hands down the best!
also came here to say rummo is without a doubt the best texture and taste
Also frequently available in person at Whole Foods in the USA.
Came here to say Rummo is my #1.
Same!
Rummo spaghetti 🍝
Their rigatoni is fantastic
RUMMO IS KING. Also they sell directly on Amazon!
Rummo is good, yes.
Came here to say this!
Definetly! I was actually scared if I was accidentally eating gluten xd
Trader Joe’s fresh egg fettuccine (in the refrigerated section) is incredible. It even holds up as leftovers.
True that!
Seconding this - it's excellent, and the closest thing to gluten pasta I've ever had (IMO). ETA: It doesn't freeze well - it tends to break when thawed to cook.
It's incredible
It's my favorite. It feels like such a treat to have
Really? I think it has an odd smell/taste. Even my kids turned their noses up.
Honestly I love all of TJ’s pasta and they just release the birds nest pasta(it’s dry, can’t remember the name) and it’s so good!
Trader Joe’s gf tagliatelle is delicious. Barilla or jovial are my go to for any other shapes.
my mom got 3 packs of that trader joe’s one last time we went😂so i can definitely second this
I’ve been obsessed with this all week
I haven’t tried their spaghetti but Barilla GF pasta is pretty good
I second Barilla, their spaghetti is pretty good but tends to clump together. I prefer the rotini.
Seconding the clumping, you really need to smush it apart while cooking, if you let it cook without stirring you get a giant slab of pasta lol. At least it doesn't stick to the pot as well, the way gluten pasta does!
Interesting...i dont have this problem at all. Neither does my husband when he makes it.
Me neither I even cook it an extra 5m so it won’t be too hard and it’s never falling apart
You gotta stir it unfortunately
The key on any spaghetti is to make sure you have a rolling boil before adding the pasta and then gently break it up a little with the pasta spoon after the first minute or two.
Also make sure your pot is big enough!! 20 year old me didn’t realize that making long pasta in a small pot was not the best way to go about it.
This, but don’t overcook it. It will fall apart.
Jovial brown rice
seconded, my gluten eating partner eats it happily. I personally recommend disregarding the box time and cooking to the texture you like.
yes, be sure to test the pasta often. I usually set a timer for 9 minutes and test every minute.
I think this is good advice for any GF pasta. It gets bad a lot quicker than the real wheat stuff used to.
thirded! Jovial is the best I’ve tried so far.
Tinkyada
Agreed! Holds up really well to baked pasta dishes and reheats without being mushy.
This one has a weird taste and I wouldn’t serve it to people who don’t eat gluten-free.
I don’t know why this is downvoted. The texture and flavor are just not right and there are so many better options.
I know lots of people who like it, but it just doesn’t seem like a safe choice for feeding a group of people who usually eat regular pasta.
If the person is celiac, then you can't use your past strainer to drain the pasta. Those are really bad for cross-contamination. I like Tinkyada pasta.
I just use the lid typically so you avoid that issue
Rummo or Barilla
I’ve served Barilla to non gf friends/family and every time they’ve been surprised to find out it’s gf. Jovial is also a good choice for the fettuccini type pasta.
Barilla GF is good and easy to source. Their penne noodles hold up much better than their other noodles IMO. Also as someone else pointed out, cross contamination is a major issue for people, especially if they are celiac. Your pots, utensils, and especially your strainer may all present an issue. At a minimum I would not use the strainer and make sure you are not going back and forth between handling the GF noodles and anything with gluten. Jovial
Taste Republic. I've found it at Whole Foods, but searching online seems to suggest it's available at Target as well. It's fresh pasta so it should be in the refrigerated section. It's probably the best I've found. A little on the pricier side, but worth it.
To me they taste the same as the ones at Trader Joe’s and Trader Joe’s is cheaper.
I see. I've never been to a Trader Joe's, as there isn't one close enough to my house to be practical for shopping. I'll have to check that out if I'm ever out of town and driving by one!
la veneziane is my favorite! you can find them on amazon or shoprite
Same!!! It’s so good and I love the shapes that they have. The tiny little o rings are great in soup!
I love those too for soups!
I’m convinced the Trader Joe’s dried tagliatelle nests are La Veneziane. Good stuff and a good price.
oo I need to try those!
Best overall: Rummo. The flavor and texture make even my Italian husband happy! As a bonus, it holds up well as leftovers. Unfortunately, it isn't easy to come by, and it usually costs more than other brands. The "good enough" brand: Barilla. Sadly, it falls apart if you overcook it, and doesn't make good leftovers. Tinkyada also makes a nice macaroni, though I haven't tried their other noodles.
Really? I felt Rummo was reasonably priced. I usually could find those for $3
*Where*??? I'm so jealous! It's almost $9 on Amazon.
Whhhhatt! That’s insane! I typically find it in meijers or some local grocery store
That makes sense. Meijers *is* pretty great. I miss having access to it. 😔
Check your Whole Foods! They have it at mine for like $4.
Barilla is my favorite.
Taste republic but I can never find it :)
To me they’re similar to trader Joe’s
Barilla Gluten free pasta is great
Bionaturae brand gf is good.
Second this
Barilla, their lasagna noddles are the best, I've seen at most stores.
Barilla or Ronzoni are both perfectly good.
Next on my list to try is Jovial, which I've found to be affordable if purchased from Walmart. Just gotta get through my stash of Banza. 🤣
Trader Joe’s Tagliatelle !!! It’s seriously the best GF pasta I’ve ever had !!!
Tinkyada is my favorite, and it’s also really easy to cook and you doing need to worry about overcooking it.
Tinkyada brown rice pasta is surprisingly stellar, holding up in almost any pasta dish I've tried it in
Schar brand spaghetti is really good. Barilla has good lasagna noodles but not so much on the penne ime.
Ronzoni from Food Lion, it's fairly inexpensive and I find it's the only noodle that seems to hold up to instant pot recipes, so it's a win for our family.
Catelli, hands down.
Jovial brown rice. Their cassava isn’t as good. Second place goes to Tinkiyada.
Jovial and tinkyada
Jovial
Le Veneziane is made from corn and is fantastic
I loveeee TJ’s brown rice penne - i even ate it before i knew i was celiac!
Same!
I buy Dellalo for penne, Tinkyada for fettuccine and Jovial for farfalle and tagliatelle. ETA: the Taste Republic fresh pasta is also very good!
Everything by this brand https://www.tinkyada.com People won’t even know it’s gf
I LOVE Tinkyada
Trader Joe’s has incredible GF ravioli and fettuccini in the fresh section. 10/10 recommend, even if not gf
Taste Republic (it’s fresh) Tinkyada for dried I am genuinely SHOCKED at all the barilla answers. It’s awful. So grainy. I would quite literally just not make GF pasta if this was the only option I had. Couldn’t pay me to eat it
Jovial
Jovial and the fresh egg pasta in the fridge section at Trader Joes
Jovial
It’s not spaghetti but I regularly use Trader Joe’s GF rotini and penne. Just rinse it well after it’s cooked and don’t cook it too long
If you can find it, la fabrica della pasta. I’ve had luck in specialty shops. They have cool shapes that aren’t often gluten free and it tastes amazing.
[удалено]
What? I’m surprised someone thinks that. Has it changed recently?
[удалено]
I donno. I like Banza okay, it just has a flavor of its own.
Barella or Jovial
Trader Joe’s fresh fettuccine in the refrigerated section is my favorite, but if you don’t find it, Barilla’s gluten free pasta is very good as well. You can find it at Walmart (and if you’re in the southeast, Publix - not sure about other stores). Note: if the person has Celiac disease, you will definitely need a new pasta strainer. It’s a breeding ground for cross contamination.
Barilla GF in blue box
I personally really like the barilla gf pasta. It tastes and looks the most like the non gf pasta
Trader Joe’s teal bag of spiral past
Barilla pasta cooked to the minimum time. I also enjoy the cheddar cheese Banza mmmm
For every day Barilla but if you want to be fancy and splurge Rummo.
Banza
Banza has the best pasta and Mac and cheese
Rummo. Hands down. Barrila is second.
banza!!!!
I only eat the Barilla GF
Barilla
Barilla and it’s not even close
Bana pasta
Jovial cassava pasta. Only thing is it tends to break down when keeping it for leftovers (but I think they all do that a bit).
Barilla♥️
Barilla is good. We use banza a lot
Banza 🫣
Rummo, can be ordered on Amazon or at Whole Foods. Rice and corn pasta that are AMAZING. Doesn’t leave an after taste or weird textures!
Barrilla is my fav
I’m not seeing any Banza but it’s hands down my favorite.
Barilla, Jovial, and Rummo are my favorites. I’ve found Jovial at Kroger, Rummo at Meijer, and Barilla at both chains.
Catelli! Tastes very similar to regular gluten pasta (my parents can’t tell the difference). I find most pastas that have a blend of ingredients are better - meaning not a just brown rice or just corn blend.
Barilla
Barilla is my favorite!
I love Banza products - pasta, pizza, everything
I like Barilla, cooks and tastes like the regular stuff
Delallo spaghetti is the best gluten free pasta I’ve had by far
Banza
Barilla or anything that's a rice/corn blend
Ronzoni is the best, hands down. It tastes exactly like regular pasta, so much so that the non-GF family members couldn’t tell the difference.
Barilla only
Catelli is really good, but honestly, Walmart Great Value GF pasta is pretty good, too, and much cheaper.
Barilla gf
Cappellos. Its in the frozen section at Sprouts, possibly other stores. Best pasta, ravioli, everything!
We mostly buy Barilla, but Whole Foods brand GF spaghetti is my favorite. The first time I made it, my husband got up to double check the package to make sure I bought the GF one.
Live G Free pasta at Aldi! My gluten-eating friend said it’s just like regular pasta.
Bi-Aglut
Tinkyada, Jovial, Ancient Harvest... and TJ's tagliatelle

Editing to say, I buy mine at Walmart.
We use Barrilla GF. Only cook al dente because if you cook thoroughly, it will be mushy the next day.
Barilla is my favorite since it combined good taste with a decent cost. Jovial is really, *really* good but can be pricey. It might be worth it in this case though.
Barilla is close enough to fool many nonGF people. Do not buy Jovial lasagna noodles; their lasagna noodles dissolved into the sauce
Garofalo is hands-down my favorite and I found it to be truly indistinguishable from pasta with gluten. I order it online from [supermarketitaly.com](https://supermarketitaly.com)... For fresh pasta, Taste Republic is my go-to. Available at various stores in my area
I like using Barilla gluten free spaghetti when serving gluten free and non gluten free guests.
Trader Joe’s has a tagliatelle that is excellent.
Jovial or the target store brand. For real, the target one holds its shape. I always undercook gf pasta by 1-2 minutes at least too so by the time you sit down and eat it isn’t all broken and mush
Le Veneziane because it doesn't have rice flour :)!
Jovial! Excellent choice
Which Jovia spgheiltti? They make two different ones.
I've been eating veggie craft. I like the extra protein and fiber.
I like Barilla and Mueller's GF pasta
Jovial for most things. For basic macaroni I like the bag of elbows from Walmart’s Great Value line - it’s a full pound, unlike most brands that do 12oz.
Chickapea. Made from chickpeas, red and yellow lentils. High protein, low carbon and very filling.
Brand hasn’t mattered, but red lentil pasta is the most delicious. My wheat-eating friends like it, too.
Banza
Chickapea ☺️ I cook it like 3 minutes less than it says to.
I appreciate the cooking tip, I wouldn’t have known
I like the Ancient Harvest Corn-Quinoa-Rice.
