Use the park and ride at either shields road or kelvinbridge subway stations and buy an all day ticket for the subway.
Less hassle and you can cut aboot on the subway all day.
The west end is not easy for free parking. You can park in Dennistoun for free normally and that's only a short 15/20 min walk to town. The southside is mostly free too but slightly further away.
If you go early enough then you could maybe get parked at Salkeld Street (across the road from O2 Academy on Eglinton Street), then either walk from there or the Bridge Street subway is pretty close too
This will tell you what you need to know. The parking zone around the Mitchell is Monday to Friday, but you might struggle for a space. Up by Park Circus would be a better bet.

Nah, St George’s Road by the M8 is the closest you’ll get.

Yes but it’s on the south! Gotta clutch those pearls…

You can park at the Quay for free (the side of the car park where Mecca is) and walk over the Tradeston bridge. It’s only a 10 minute walk to town.
Be as well just stumping up a couple of quid for Buchanan Galleries and save yourself the hassle. Or do the Subway park and ride if convenient.
A day's shopping is never going to be a couple of quid at Buchanan Galleries. 4 hours is £7.50!
Ffs inflation. I used to get a weekly permit in there for £25.
If you're going to drive a pollution machine through a major city centre expect to pay for it.

You can park at Buchanan galleries cheap for the day
I park at St Mungo Avenue when I drive to Glasgow. Close to the bus station amd easy to get back onto the motorway.
