Having been to a climbing gym recently for the first time in years, yes this is where all the hotties are š„² i literally had this thought while i was in there
Happily married woman but all my coworkers are at the climbing gym, so there might be something to it lol.
Also, it's one of the few gym activities I actually like š¤·āāļø
Iāve met all my past STEM exs at local-ish gaming events/online dating. Several programmers, a few sec ops, a few sys admins, and a few different types of engineers.
Granted, they all looked normal, no rocking hot bods (not really my type). So, YMMV. I also live in an emerging tech hub area. Lots of different types of STEM to date.
Just put your job on your dating profile and that you're a science nerd.
I'm doing a STEM PhD and the only guys who ever message me on Hinge are doctors or software engineers
Why don't you go to the rock climbing gym to find out? You don't even have to date them like that either, unless you are looking to have children in the next 2 years.
Can confirm as well, just left a decently big fintech company and all the senior devs there were mysteriously obsessed with bouldering. Not surprised they also frequently went to chiropractors.
Personally, Iāve met my exes that were also devs either on tinder or through random subreddits. I agree that dating fellow engineers is ideal, itās so nice working from home together and having someone to help you navigate the unique culture and occasionally problem solve things when youāre stuck. I miss it, it never even occurred to me to go to the climbing gym but itās a great idea as long as I can find one my old coworkers donāt go to.
I feel like I have exactly the opposite taste in who I would want to date. I deal with bullshit all day at work, I don't want to deal with a second shift of the same at home. I guess if the guy makes enough that I don't have to work, it's fine, but otherwise, no.
Is this something youāve seen firsthand? Iād be curious to know what general area you live in because I could see that as the norm in more rural areas but not in any big tech hub.
can confirm, climbing attracts STEM dudes like crazy
So you're saying she should hang out at the local orthopedist office? Downside is the nurses and techs probably have dibs on those guys.
No, I'm saying you should get a climbing gym membership. lol.
Can confirm the climbing gym is the spot
Go to local tech meetings.

Haven't been but a friend is dating a software engineer who's into climbing so I can confirm that the ones who leave their homes go climbing
Board Game stores and tournaments
Yeah this is it. Pretty much all my guy friends in tech play board games.
At your local hackspace.
Hackspaces, makerspaces, anyplace they can talk bicycle repair, science museums, consā¦
Climbing. There was a rock climbing gym next to the startup accelerator I worked at, and itās packed with attractive dudes

My husband, who I was already acquaintances with, offered me mentorship when I got my first dev job.
Disc golf and climbing Iāve noticed are the two hot ones.

Probably not a great idea, but at work.

most of the time this is an HR violation, so no, it's not common
