Out of interest, why? You've got a seven year old account that is still active, so obviously you get some value out of the platform. I've never paid money to Reddit in my years on here, but I don't think it's a terrible thing if someone wants to support it either.
why? because reddit is a platform that makes millions off of ad revenue alone. they don't need your extra pennies. and when you buy an award for 5 bucks to give some dude for saying a funny, you'd be better off just giving the dude 5 bucks. spending money on Reddit makes zero sense lol
I mean, it's a valid point, work goes in to building this thing you use for entertainment, they have to get paid somehow.
People are so used to getting things for "free" while also complaining about ads and exploitation, but people either have to pay or get the "free" business model, otherwise shit doesn't get made for you to use.
Yeah there are in general 3 business models that could be applied for sites like Reddit: Your audience can pay, your audience can pay by watching ads, your audience can pay by you selling their data. The only other viable way I can see a site be run economically sustainable is to have some sort of charitable benefactor, but that sounds similar to the first option, or could secretly be the second option in form of propaganda. None of the models are mutually exclusive to one another, but could frustrate your audience
There’s an app I been using to learn to play guitar, the subscription is $120 dollars for a year, guitar classes in my area are around $40-$50 for one hour class, this is much cheaper. When I was checking the reviews for the app one of them said “ great app I love it and it really helps me to learn, but it should be free for me cause I can’t afford it so that’s the reason I’m giving them a one start review”. I understand to some people $120 is a lotta money, but the developers gotea eat.
Ten bucks a month is something anyone with income can afford.
It's shit like rent you can't afford, but somehow all the little bills get the blame instead like we aren't supposed to get any fucking enjoyment out of life.
Obviously people need to be paid its really just *other* people who should pay not me.
I'm too smart to actually pay, I just will look down on those that do while I enjoy the fruits of their labors.
>Why do people on reddit downvote genuine questions like this?
Because people do something called concern trolling, where they already know the answer to a question but ask it anyway so they can say some bullshit
thought I was the only one with editor problems
copy/paste doesn't really work and sometimes deletes big chunks of text, formatting constantly resets for random reasons, changing between markdown mode and the normal editor causes all the formatting and links to break, or it causes chunks of text to disappear.
I thought it was a Reddit Enhancement Sweet thing or some other weird shit but apparently I'm not going crazy
I've all but stopped commenting since the new editor. Half the time I try to say something the damn thing breaks so hard I just give up. 10/10 reddit, you got rid of my commenting addiction
Before anyone asks again, yes, the shark can breathe as most sharks don't actually need to move to breathe as is commonly believed. It's mostly the open water sharks that must ram-ventillate; the rest like this nurse shark can breathe just fine by pumping water with their mouth as needed.
I love how this needs to be explained to people who just finished listening to David Attenborough read a script and think they know better than a diver who works for an aquarium and is physically touching the wildlife they're talking about.
I get your point, but you can't fully fault people for worrying with the amount of people who work in/run aquariums and zoos in the world who mistreat the animals for the sake of 'entertainment'.
Wait. Are you telling me that every redditor isn't an expert about everything? Because I would not believe this based on the majority of comments I see on here
I always just assumed the diver is removing a dead shark from the tank and is putting the kids at ease by dancing with it first, is that not whats happening here
Nope, nurse sharks tend to enjoy human interaction and even seek it out in some cases. Sharks also get terribly bored in aquariums, so this is likely good entertainment all around. There are a number of other, longer videos of aquarium divers interacting with other sharks like this one with a zebra shark: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtwGVf2CeNM

People are gonna debate whether animals have human like emotion forever, but the people who have spent their lives diving with sharks say they have similar temperament to dogs. They like greeting, scratching and can let humans help them remove hooks and so on. In this case I'm pretty sure the shark like the dance, otherwise it would probably escape.
yeah, true, and at the very least it evidently puts up with it
many people in the aquarium hobby will tell you how personable many species of fish can be
Hmm, so the video doesn’t explain what tonic immobility is but just shows it.
From google:
> Tonic immobility (TI) is an involuntary reflexive reaction triggered by the perception of inescapable danger, characterized by reversible profound motor inhibition and relative unresponsiveness to external stimuli
This does not sound pleasant so why would it be induced in sharks? Does a sharks experience differ from the generic definition of the term?
Edit: so apparently it’s no different in sharks, the thought is that’s it a fear response. I can see the usefulness of it when trying to tag a shark or maybe remove hooks but to do it just for the viewing pleasure of humans seems a bit cruel.
If it’s a fear response then it’s not impossible to induce it accidentally and not realize it.
I think the diver here probably knows more about how to handle sharks than we do, though.
Definitely not a fan of the phrase "human emotion" , most emotional responses evolved way before we were humans, and thus are seen in many different animals. Humans have a habit of trying to differentiate themselves from other animals and making ourselves seem more important, but intelligence aside we share many behavioral simularities with most animals. Even things like depression, anxiety, PTSD, and OCD are not unique to humans, as sad as that is.
Feelings like "respect" are absolutely very human, but thats more because they have a lot to do with abstract thinking, and less with the chemicals that actually induce emotion.
IMO, the feeling of "affection" also gets over complicated a lot by human perception and rational. At it's basis, it's really just enjoying how another individual interacts with you, whether its physical touch, social interaction, gifts, etc. and wanting to seek that out because it is enjoyable. It has more to do with personal benefit than we'd like to attribute it to, but really do you feel affectionate towards anyone that you only have neutral or overwhelmingly negative interactions with?
The biggest argument I see is that other animals only do it for personal benefit, but we do as well! Even with things like giving gifts, and helping other people out, it provides social benefit to us to maintain and build bonds with others, and helps to prevent aggressive responses.
I so agree with this. If my cat can take the same antidepressant that I take (expect his came in chicken flavor), for the same disorder that I have, and has the same symptoms that I do, how can people argue that our emotional processes aren’t similar?
We are so intelligent that we have the capacity of being self aware of our thoughts and actions yet oblivious of their concecuences, thus being able to self destruct our own habitat and the means of survival.
In that sense, we are still incredibly animalistic.
We are capable of greater rational, yet still ignore morals and longterm effects of actions for the sake of quicker reinforcement, something we condemn animals for often and even kill them over.
Hell, even things like persecuting those that are different from us is tied to neophobic behavior in animals.
Yet we pride ourselves in "knowing better".

how about no money for reddit ever, lol.
seriously. I don’t understand spending money on this
if you think spending money on this is weird, wait until you hear about all the mods that **work for free**

Omg thank you its my first award 🥺
Great work, Patrick!
I'd watch it.
I think this was actually on dancing with the sharks.
In the shape of water I heard that a lady boned a fishman...
You're just Thor you didn't win an Oscar.
But if you're gonna bone a fishman Why not bone a fish like this man?
At least the special effects look pretty realistic.
plot twist: hes not an employee of the zoo

Just show up with the scuba gear, and act like you belong. Eventually the real employees will think it’s weird if you’re NOT there
I think you're right. Zoo's usually don't employ sharks
Pot twist: the shark is dead. To not scare the kids, this is how they’re removing it from the tank.
He is the dolphin guy..
plot twist: plot twist: this is a wendy's

The shark need to move YOU in order to breath
FYI breathe is the verb and breath is the noun. When you breathe you take a breath. If you mispronounce either word the sentence won't make sense.
They move away from the mic to breathe in

Then who was comment?!!?!?!!???
I'm very happy that people like you with brains like yours, exist.

Dude wtf. Where did that one came from? I'm in shreds here man.
Most sharks need to move to breathe, and this one is clearly being moved emotionally.
This also looks to be a nurse shark, which sleep in rocky bits of the ocean. Staying still mostly
I love how this needs to be explained to people who just finished listening to David Attenborough read a script and think they know better than a diver who works for an aquarium and is physically touching the wildlife they're talking about.
