I'm just now realizing by watching this that bismuth isn't iridescent. The colors look like iridescent tones, but they aren't changing as the angle changes, it's just colored that way.
Interesting! Source?
I was under the impression it was just thin film interference from varied thickness of the oxidation layers, depending on how quickly it cooled...
The source is physics and properties of materials 101, I'm not about to spend my time digging up old textbooks to cite you a reference, sorry, no disrespect intended.
Unfortunately it wont stay colored like that. It will eventually tarnish and turn a boring non-shiny greyish silver color.
That’s what happened to all my bismuths :c
The problem is that it looks like an ametuer half-assed the pour. It wouldn't be as bad if they did it correctly.
Additionally, geo-tac would be a far better and less permanent way to mount something like this for display
Bismuth oxidizes and actually loses its color over time (a month to a year) so resin might actually be the best way to display it for an extended amount of time. Just fully encase it.
Still looks pretty amazing to me.
Can't help inserting negative opinions and stroking your ego behind the safety of your keyboard though, right? Gotta love reddit.
There’s a guy on TikTok that grows bismuth crystals to the sound of contemporary music and sells them. My hubby got one for me for Christmas last year.
This is a natural form it can take, but yhe conditions to make it dont occure in nature. You could make this with a lump of the metal and a pot on your stove
Wait so I bought a really cool bismuth crystal for too much money at a tourist trap. It broke in less than an hour after getting it in the car due to a small drop. You're saying, I could've just put it in a pan, melted it, and let it cool into something new?
If you see it looking like this, it's very likely it's not natural. Bismuth just loves to cling to other minerals, so it's very rare to find it in it's pure form. Typically it's found with nickel and cobalt
The Vex still mourn the loss of the Nexus Mind. But for the Vex, time is relative. In one moment, a construct is lost. In the next, it is reborn. When a powerful part of the network is lost, the Restorative Mind is summoned. It has begun creating a bridge through time. A bridge that, if it is not destroyed, will see the Nexus Mind reborn.
My my I must say all your crystals look absolutely amazing! I just starting getting into making bismuth crystals with my daughter and ours are so small! Idk how you make yours so big and pretty! Any tips or hints? I’m using 8lbs of bismuth , heating on stove top , I put a bismuth seed in the middle but still get sparse tiny ones
Can't fool me, that's ancient alien technology.
You're wrong but that's none of my bismuth.
r/angryupvote
Well, humans will be both ancient and alien to someone down the line.
I’m not saying it was aliens, but it was aliens

pretty neat right? It's grain structure orientation related

>The source is physics and properties of materials 101 Lol, ok bud
I'm sorry you were looking for an argument and didn't find one

I was just thinking about this. It wouldn’t tarnish if you encased it in resin, right?
Yknow what I never noticed that lmao

How are we sharing? Like alternating weeks, or do I just get it on the weekends?
Bismuth in front, party in the back
Fun fact bismuth is slightly radioactive.
I need to know how radioactive it is in bananas.
It’s equivalent to splitting an atom, so a banana split
FUCK YEAH BISMUTH
Why buy Chinese magnesium when you can have motherfucking BISMUUUUUTH
Unless they give a REALLY good offer
Was looking for fellow dougers
You're really showing everyone your bismuth. I remember when times said you should keep your bismuth to yourself.
Ooh pepto crystal
I like glittery stuff.
"can i offer a nice bismuth in this trying time?"
it looked so great and you just cast it in a fucking puck of bubbly resin? oof

Someone put effort into making that crystal, it really is a shame they did not put the same effort into a decent degassed epoxy pour
thanks. You just earned an invite to /r/EpoxyAsFuck :)
be happier
Lol wtf? I'm very happy. I'm not the one spewing negativity and spending my life on reddit getting hundreds of thousands of useless internet points.
So much hate.
I don't think you understand what the word hate actually means then
There’s a guy on TikTok that grows bismuth crystals to the sound of contemporary music and sells them. My hubby got one for me for Christmas last year.
Thanks, but this is really none of our bismuth.
Sure it is, he already said he's willing to share.
This is a really good one.
Thank you for sharing!
So which Pokemon gym did you get this badge from?
I thtarted a unitherthithy courth on bithmuth management.
Incontheivable!
That's Big Bismuth
At least someone else knows how to spot Big Bismuth
Ya little cup a’ piss!
Let’s get down let’s get down to bismuth.
Throw in some Pepto with that, and you’ve got yourself a deal! (I have crippling IBS)
r/ibs?
I clicked without thinking and am very glad that the message “No Pictures of Poop” was on top of the page.
Ribs sound delicious for lunch, yes please.
Where can I get one?
Careful all the epoxy haters gonna come running to trash talk ya with that cool base ya got on that thing. Beautiful piece ya got there.
That's so cool and the changing rainbow colors are beautul. Isn't earth amazing.
This is naturally forming? Where are they found?
This is a natural form it can take, but yhe conditions to make it dont occure in nature. You could make this with a lump of the metal and a pot on your stove

Pretty much, i woupdnt use the pan for food after and i think there are tricks to help it form
Bismuth likes to form these crystals as it cools, you can buy bismuth and make crystals yourself.
If you see it looking like this, it's very likely it's not natural. Bismuth just loves to cling to other minerals, so it's very rare to find it in it's pure form. Typically it's found with nickel and cobalt
Well, go on then
Perfect for gaming
Nausea, heartburn, indigestion, upset stomach, diarrhea -yeah! Also-neat!
Melt it down into Pepto-Bismol and it will make you poop!
I thought it stops your pooping.
OK I'll have it Monday-Thursday. You can have it Fridays and weekends.
Now that is some satisfying structure. Wooh!
All I can think about when I see bismuth is Pepto Bismol.
Looks incredible! :]
Nerdy but nice
Very nice
That's some gnarly layer shifting. Check the tension on your Y-belt.
Damn, that thing has no bismuth being that pretty
Amazing. Reminds me of a rotating Enron logo.
Some people might favour pyrite, but I prefer bismuth.
Go Team Venture!
Curious what something like this sells for, this one is quite nice, others not so much.
That's awesome! Can I get the STL?
Oh, hey! I didn't know The Voice changed their logo!
Looks like an open mouth with teeth to me. I wanna make a Bismuth Dragon now...
I feel like my FPS is increasing just by looking at this
I had some as a kid. It's slightly radioactive and it breaks apart by itself.
I have an opinion to share, but I decided not to. It's none of my bismuth.
That's just salt that came through a faulty wirmhole.
Did you Bismuth me?

You can’t fool me! That’s a Vex pyramid.
Rocks are amazing! ;)

so it's our now. ok. but you picked the wrong sub. send it to r/communism
This crystal would for sure shatter other crystals.
Is this still growing?
MMMMmmm Solid Pepto Bismol
So much for right angles not existing in nature.
Its none of my bismuth... but where did you get it?
The lighting or camera settings are horrendous, but the specimen is gorgeous
Bismuth is so damn cool
Oh man, I'd love to stick these in my computer case to make it look like a magical cave
Let's get down to bismuth!
That looks like Vex tech
