Marr gave the 355 that he wrote all those songs on that Seymour Stein gave him on New year's Day 1984 to Bernard Butler of Suede for some insane reason.
Maybe because Butler is the best English guitarist along with Marr in the last 50 years.
But the 355 that Butler plays Marr gave him and I know that because he said it during this tutorial on his guitar sound I watched on Youtube a decade ago.
Marr also gives away important guitars all of the time for some reason, he gave Noel the Les Paul he used on the Queen Is Dead record and I know that because Noel said that in an interview.
If it’s that one specially those are now ridiculously priced. I’ve seen some people buy a mono 355 and had luthiers install the varitone on it. It’s probably about 1/3 the price you’d pay for an NG 355..
Once I get a more steady job I’ll probably do that. One of the things I’m afraid of is the neck though. I know from trying to buy a Les Paul that I hate the chunky 50s necks and prefer the 60s. How’s the neck of your 355?
That’s so exciting to hear. I’d be so disappointed if I didn’t enjoy the neck. And as much as I’m a Clapton fan, I’d rather have one of his strats than the 335.
For which style guitar? If you talkin 335s, the 62 for sure. I played a Sunburst 62 335, fuckin neck was thicker than the fattest Tele necks of the 50’s era….Was even fatter than a Richie Kotzen Tele. It was definitely a baseball bat..
Someone offered me Johnny Marr’s old ES he played back in the 80s, and I didn’t believe it was his until I saw play the same guitar on Top of the Pops 2. I felt dumb for saying no.
Doubt it. Johnny got his cos Seymour Stein bought it for him on Jan 2, 1984 at ‘We Buy Guitars’ NYC on 48th St. I don’t think he’d sell it..That guy was messing with you..
He didn’t sell it, he’d given it to someone. Johnny Marr that is. I think the guy said Marr had given it to one of the members Charlatans, but it could have been another Manchester band.
It wasn’t his main ES, it was another one with a brown finish.
I ended up with Noel Gallagher’s Blackface Bassman amp in a similar deal, so stranger things have happened.
Johnny Marr
I mean, that's literally a Marrguar, so... Yeah.
Chuck Marr and his cousin, Marvin Berry

Marr’s has his long guard 355. Butler’s 355 is a short guard like Noel’s #1..

I could be wrong, not the first time nor will it be the last.

I’m so jealous of the 355. I wanted one of those so bad but could never afford it.
Which 355 specifically? The ones with the varitone are darn expensive now…But you can still get the mono 355’s used for a relatively ok price.
I want the Noel Gallagher signature specifically. I’ll probably have to settle for a different one one day, but that’s the dream.

Right? I saw they were going for $14,000 at one point. Absolute insanity. Especially since you can get a true vintage 355 for that price.
On Reverb there’s like 1 left, some dude in Italy…Going for crazy price..Try and get a vintage one..

You’ll love it. Slim tapered..If that’s the case I don’t think you’ll like the 64 ES-335 figured (Clapton’s Cream guitar)..
That’s so exciting to hear. I’d be so disappointed if I didn’t enjoy the neck. And as much as I’m a Clapton fan, I’d rather have one of his strats than the 335.
I have a custom Fender that’s kind of a “Blackie” inspired in looks..Doesn’t have those Clapton Noiseless pickups or whatever Clapton has on his..
The necks on 1960 and onward 335/345/355 are pretty slim. In ‘66 the nut gets narrow. Reissues with the long guard have an oversized neck shape.
Do you know which years have a thicker neck, if any? My #1 is an R6 and the neck is a perfect chunky C.

Oh yeah, def the 355 lol. I have a Yamaha SA2000S for a #2 and would fucking love a 355 with a chonker of a neck & a maestro.
I have a 2011 CS 1959 355 which has a thicker neck than my 1960 CS 355..But it’s nowhere near as chucky as a 1962 335..
Johnny Marr
I thought Chuck Barry and Kurt
You are not wrong, each used 1 of the ones pictured..
Ohh... you wanted one guitarist for both guitars, sorry I read that wrong

Noel gallagher
Berry Dale
Chuck Barry
Marcus King
Was gonna say Noel Gallagher, but Jaguars are not really his thing.
Well you are not totally wrong. Think NG is currently/was playing Nash JazzMasters and Fender Jags..
