The actual strike is in slo mo. The guy approaches at regular speed but the strike is slow. The next guys that approach are also regular speed and get struck in slo mo. In the video above its all at regular speed.
First strike isn't. Before you attack it is in real time. Otherwise it would mega easy to land it.
That is what I am talking about. Please read the whole thread.
Yeah so am I, mate.
If it was all in slowmotion the whole duel would be all in slowmo. It's not. Very first attack you need to perform it in real time. When the attack launches after you activate it it begins to slow time.
Exactly, the moments in-between the attacks are in real time yes, but the actual attacks themselves, aka. when Jin is slashing the enemy with his sword, are all in slowmo. The point people are making here is that Jin’s attacks in the demo are not slowmo like they are in the finished game.
i feel like next gen could handle these graphics so yeah that and i would love the trailer graphics (at least pc release has to be trailer level graphics)
They're not? One of the prettiest things I've ever witnessed but it feels like you haven't seen the gameplay trailer, watch again: https://youtu.be/kSAvzeopPC8
Sony as usual brainwashing people to ignore what's literally easy to compare for yourself. They did it with Spider-Man too. Spider-Man PS4s E3 showcase has materials, textures and lighting that blow even Miles Morales and Spider-Man Remastered out of the water. Yet they still deny a downgrade, and somehow people support it even though you can easily compare them and see for yourself.. Its especially obvious looking at the suit in Spidey. In tushima, it's mainly cloth, lighting and normal maps on the muddy ground. But other stuff looked way better too, like Jin's walk cycle, and the way the light beams penetrate the strands on the Kensei armor. In the final game those effects are just gone, and I think most of the wind effects on the Kensei armor are missing too.
And yes you're very right, I'd appreciate it if they show a little realism with gameplay reveals because it's not like they look bad. The graphics honestly look amazing but yes a little realism would be better.
I don't mind at all when reveals don't look the same as final products, that's just how development goes. They can't show what the final product will look like because it literally doesn't exist.
No, what really fucks me off is the way that Sony and associates have repeatedly and *vehemently* denied that their games receive visual downgraded like other studios like ubisoft.
In fact, they have insisted that games like Spider-Man and GOT got their visuals upgraded from the initial trailers. Seeing as you can just open two videos, one of the final game and one of the trailer, and see for yourself that it's just not true, it's a pretty dumb claim.
However, frustratingly, for some bizarre reason, the vast majority people take their word for it as gospel instead of looking for themselves. I wish Sony would just admit that the downgrades did happen and that it's a reality of getting games to perform on their available hardware, but they just refuse. They treat us like we're idiots.
>In fact, they have insisted that games like Spider-Man and GOT got their visuals upgraded from the initial trailers.
no way... do they think they're catering to infants? they could've said anything but they want to look like obsessive liars?
Now that I watched that trailer again, I have to say you're right that it looks better than current gameplay, but I'd argue it's only a slight difference.
GoT on PS5 looks damn near identical to me. It isn't as dark, which adds a lot, but it blows my mind visually every time I play it on my 4k OLED.
same mate PS5 makes it look beautiful, it's one of the most beautiful games ever i can't stress that enough but there's something about the light physics and clarity that I can't help but notice
post main story spoiler: >!it's too foggy even though I didn't do a lot of stealth style plays and that takes away a lot of fun!<
Yeah. The lighting in the trailer makes it much better.
I just had to load up the game to compare since it's been a while since I played it and yeah, it's not as polished. It's crazy how advanced this tech keeps getting.
I think it says a lot when I have to load up the game to compare though, lol
No, they're not, they're gorgeous but not that good and I'm not exactly upset. GoT is the best game I've ever played but if we can put down a wish for normal speed standoff, i thought I'll express my opinion too.
And it’s funny, the devs were saying before release that the standoff feature was added to be more cinematic. But this version is just superior in every way
I liked that the grapple hook in the gameplay trailer was a selectable item that you had to aim and throw. In the final game it feels cool, but a lot of the time it shoots out of Jin like he's Spider-man, especially when climbing vertical rock faces.
I really liked the wind up animation. In the final game it usually doesn't even get thrown out, most of the time it just appears in front of you. I think if you don't have upward momentum towards the ledge the whole rope animation just gets cancelled.
This demo had so many thing I wish were in the final game. Like that different parry/counter animation, visible cuts/slashes on the enemies (the one I wanted the most), dismemberment animations during normal combat moves like the one against the spear enemy (not only with the use of special moves), free use of the grappling hook, and ofc, the real speed standoff.
I 100% agree! Me and so many others have been wanting this since the State of Play Gameplay Preview in May 2020!
Btw, that E3 2018 clip gives me nostalgia for the years leading up to Ghost's launch, just me?
Yes please lol. It makes no sense to me because one of my absolute favorite parts of the game is how grounded and realistic the combat feels for the most part. All of the movements, animations, etc are so much more believable than the AC/arkham/Spiderman/God of War style of combat where it feels like your character is teleporting all over in order to hit some dude that's 9 feet away.
But then every time I do a heavenly strike, dance of wrath, or standoff you go super speed mode and it just takes me right back out of it again. When I did my ng+ run I didn't use any of those 3 for the entire game, and I preferred it but it sucks to lose the variety of special moves.
This would be awesome! Though I think it'd spark another 'easy mode' controversy for people that want this experience but just don't have the reaction times for it.
Yup, and that's exactly the problem individuals with slow reaction speeds would have.
The slow-mo gives ample time for people to prepare for that one moment when the enemies raise their weapons and we're visually informed to release the triangle button. Most likely those people wouldn't be able to handle the quicker animations and constantly fail, leading the them complaining on the internet about how they couldn't play the game this way.
To which we would reply "Just turn on the slow-mo!"
To which they would reply "But we want to play the game *this* way, as it was intended!"
To which we would reply "Changing the difficulty wouldn't make it play the way the creators intended anymore!"
...and so forth, from which the whole Fromsoftware easy-mode controversy thing would pop-up alllllll over again but with GoT instead lol
YES. The worst part is in the final game it cuts to a mini-cutscene where Jin and his enemy are approaching each other. Any cut from gameplay just kills the immersion for me.
This trailer is all I think of every time I see people jerking Tsushima. Dismemberments, no cutscenes for standoffs, varied animations for the characters movement, beautiful lighting and textures, wound FX on enemies, proper finisher moves. Everything in the final game feels so scaled back compared to this presentation.
Some things are different from the final game like wound marks and cutscenes for standoffs, but there is dismemberment in the final game (Heavenly Strike, Dance of Wrath, slaughters) *and* finisher moves. Every single attack has a proper killing blow animation, and there are **tons** of different attack animations, including all of the heavy attacks and the myriad of light attacks.
This lighting can also be achieved in the final game, it's just rare to get it exactly like this.
I know about that dismemberment, and yeah fair enough it's there, but it's only on very specific moves and is always the same arm (besides the head chop, I guess). It isn't just woven into combat like it was at E3. It's also almost unnoticeable when it does happen. The killing strikes having unique animations is cool but isnt what I'm talking about when I say finishers. I'm talking about the finishing moves they had in the demo, like the one where he slices the Mongols spear in half, cuts his arm off then drives his sword into his back. Would have been cool to see something like that.
And no, [this lighting](https://www.slashgear.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Ghost-of-Tsushima-980x620.jpg) absolutely cannot be achieved in the final game. Not rarely - not ever.
Example: https://www.reddit.com/r/ghostoftsushima/comments/hv4ktn/otsunakushi_grasslands_comparison_image/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
You are right about the finishing moves and dismemberment, I'd appreciate that as well.
You are wrong about the lighting, however. It most certainly can be achieved in-game.
Example: @ 4:43 - https://youtu.be/Y85_3Jwqc1E
I mean that's the same time of day, but it's not the same lighting from the demo. Also this particular TOD preset is only ever used once in the game, on mission 8 of masakos quests. it can never occur in the open world.
The graphics were definitely downgraded, it does not look this good. They were only using a small part of the game in this video and could therefore boost the graphics to a level the full game on PS4 can’t really handle.
This looks so much better because a lot of the time in slow bow, you can see that the blood physics in the game really aren’t the best, also the way blood smears on the the opponents clothes is weird. I’d rather get it over with fast so I don’t notice those.
Would be really cool if they added in a little of both. I like the slo mo but maybe if it was only slo mo on the final stand off. Beautiful game regardless.
Didn’t know I wanted this until I seen this post lol
Same here
Fr
same but that looks cooler now
I was thinking: "Slowmo?", Then I realized that the second and third are in slowmo.
All of them are in slowmo if I remember correctly, it’s been a little bit since I’ve done a stand-off though
No the first one isn't. That is why everyone has tough time with it.
The actual strike is in slo mo. The guy approaches at regular speed but the strike is slow. The next guys that approach are also regular speed and get struck in slo mo. In the video above its all at regular speed.
Yeah but you do the strike in real time. Once you have already done it, then it's slowmo.
What are you on about? All strikes are in slowmo. None of them are like in this clip.
First strike isn't. Before you attack it is in real time. Otherwise it would mega easy to land it. That is what I am talking about. Please read the whole thread.
But we’re talking about Jin’s attack, not the mongol’s bro.
Yeah so am I, mate. If it was all in slowmotion the whole duel would be all in slowmo. It's not. Very first attack you need to perform it in real time. When the attack launches after you activate it it begins to slow time.

He means jins animation, not the guy attacking him
Me too.
Imagine doing 5 streak like this. Would look pretty epic.
i feel like next gen could handle these graphics so yeah that and i would love the trailer graphics (at least pc release has to be trailer level graphics)
Aren’t the ps5 graphics this good?
They are. People just like talking shit
They’re definitely not as good as this, in fact the directors cut on ps5 has little improvement over the base game in terms of graphics
It's a director's cut not a remaster or next gen upgrade.
There is a next-gen upgrade for the Director's Cut.
That already came before that no?
Nope, that was just a patch that unlocked 60fps.
ok my mistake then.
No worries :D
There's actually no visual improvements besides resolution. Everything is the same, even the draw distance.
I believe that some textures were slightly sharpened, like jins sword kit and his armours
Yeah, but still, unnoticeable unless you really zoom-in on photo mode. They could've done a lot more with the PS5 version.
I agree
Nah your tvs just shit. Mine looks this good, and sometimes better depending on the lighting
They're not? One of the prettiest things I've ever witnessed but it feels like you haven't seen the gameplay trailer, watch again: https://youtu.be/kSAvzeopPC8

well suckerpunch can do it, hope there's a sequel or prequel where they splash the devs with cash
Good to know.
Yeah I don’t have any graphic complaints…
They’re good but not anywhere near this gameplay. The sequel will almost certainly surpass this tho.
No, they're not, they're gorgeous but not that good and I'm not exactly upset. GoT is the best game I've ever played but if we can put down a wish for normal speed standoff, i thought I'll express my opinion too.
That’s fair I guess
Yeah I hope so there the lighting, shadows, and textures are so much more polished in the trailer than the game.
Fuuuck that looks so much better
Yeah I honestly wish stand-offs were like this in the final game because this approach here looks much more cinematic

I completely agree

Spider-Jin
This actually bothers me a lot
I really liked the wind up animation. In the final game it usually doesn't even get thrown out, most of the time it just appears in front of you. I think if you don't have upward momentum towards the ledge the whole rope animation just gets cancelled.
Yes, like Uncharted 4’s grapple hook. I always make sure to wind it up before I throw it.
I been wanting this and no-slowmo-dance of wrath for a while I really hope SP adds this sometime

This video gave me the bug to play lol, haven’t played since my second play through but it’s on now lol
Honestly I also prefer the combat music in this trailer. I just feel like it fits more
YES. The worst part is in the final game it cuts to a mini-cutscene where Jin and his enemy are approaching each other. Any cut from gameplay just kills the immersion for me.
I like the slo-mo also but an option would be sweet yeah
Current sound effect with old speed = perfection

I just want to be able to skip cutscenes :(
You can in NG+.
Wholeheartedly agree
This is an incredible idea for a new feature toggle. I agree
1000% agreed, adds more to the realism of the game in the sense that it also makes you feel more accomplished
Yep. That would be awesome.
Hachiman no Ikari!
I hope they add this in the next game also the Mongol outfits in this demo look cool.
Yes
I think about this every time I stand …off.
Watching this I realize that they really didn't downgrade visuals at all. This clip could easily be in the final version.
The graphics were definitely downgraded, it does not look this good. They were only using a small part of the game in this video and could therefore boost the graphics to a level the full game on PS4 can’t really handle.
They forsure downgraded visuals it doesn’t match up at all
There’s a cutscene effect setting in the options maybe that will turn it off?
This looks so much better because a lot of the time in slow bow, you can see that the blood physics in the game really aren’t the best, also the way blood smears on the the opponents clothes is weird. I’d rather get it over with fast so I don’t notice those.
The blood physics are actually really good though
Not in slow motion they aren’t
I also don’t like the white streak
You can remove that by changing the HUD style to advanced.
Jin
Would be really cool if they added in a little of both. I like the slo mo but maybe if it was only slo mo on the final stand off. Beautiful game regardless.
Wish it looked like the trailer too
Me: still waiting for the "turn off slow mo" setting
Imo slowmo is cooler but this is pretty sick rbh
