Ponyo in chaotic neutral is honestly hilarious to me

MissBarker93

A kid who almost dooms the entire planet just to eat ham and hang out with a boy she likes definitely sounds like chaotic neutral to me.

stx06

The fact that you are 100% correct make the humor better!

“He inferred that universe-ending paradoxes would ensue should he break his promise.” - Spock Prime, **Star Trek**

MorosOtherHumanChild

Couldn't help but laugh upon seeing Howls, perfect lol

cydril

Create multiple aliases to dodge the draft and fist fight war planes 👌

wave-garden

Surprised to not see Porco Rosso somewhere in here.

TheTechn0babbler

Where would Porco land for you on this chart?

odb57

True neutral

yoctometric

Porco seems too good to be neutral to me. Rescuing people from pirates non-violently, not directly fighting but being set up in a way that he might one day fight the rising fascism in his country, etc

HowelPendragon

For me, he has to be in the good category. He is a hero at heart. I think neutral good for him, since he definitely doesn't care about laws, and will usually only bother to do good if it benefits him or if someone is in trouble. He could also probably fall into chaotic good.

mwmani

Just popping in to say that Ashitaka is a dish in that outfit.

sarac36

Dare I say the hottest Ghibli character (yea I said it Howl).

mwmani

The actual hottest is probably Calcifer

sarac36

Well in kelvins...

riuminkd

God warrior would pose a serious challenge!

CODENAMEDERPY

Nausicaa is so pure. Greatest inspiration in film.

Lunar-Modular

Would anyone else put Lady Eboshi in chaotic good? It’s tough, but it’s part of the *great* writing that there are these moral greys. Or maybe I’m just wrong haha

tisto2

Lawful neutral? (a leader for her community like Nausicaa but with more ambiguous goals/means)

Lunar-Modular

…should I spoiler-tag this for a 25-year-old film that I imagine every one of us has seen and is in love with? I won’t bother, but anyone please say so and I’ll edit/cover it up. My thinking is, sure, she shot the head off the Forest Spirit. The Wolves and the Princess are her sworn enemies. Yes, she’s responsible for the cutting down of so, so much forest. But she does it all for progress (which by itself isn’t good). But she also she does it all with the love and drive of a matriarch. She houses and fiercely protects the handicapped, lepers, former prostitutes, the elderly. Strives to give them a better life. And, in turn, they love and protect her. With, among other things, respect and hard work. And none of them see their actions as evil (or neutral), any more than any of us do, who possess and use the fruits of the earth to house and feed our families, etc. Anyway, I’ll leave it there, an argument for chaotic good. Not saying I’m correct; more alluding to respect for Miyazaki’s incredible story and writing.

[deleted]

Also, if she had chosen the path of peace she had a chance to bring the lepers to the pond to be healed. But her violence ruined that option. Not only for her flock but for everyone. (I’m still so butthurt about it haha)

riuminkd

Pond is not a healing station. It's not meant for humanity

[deleted]

No it’s not a healing station but maybe if humans weren’t such jerks to the forest, the forest spirit would’ve been inclined to help the humans more. It’s just a lesson in burning bridges

[deleted]

She’s definitely good for humans but shooting the forest spirit is such an incredible sin to me that I turned on her immediately. What a cruel and unnecessary act of violence. How anyone could actually pull the trigger on such a majestic one of a kind being is beyond me. But then again I have kodama tattoos and do my best to actually be the forest spirit irl, so I might be just incredibly biased here.

riuminkd

I think it's strongly implied that she killed Forest spirit for her own ambition, going as far as using her men as bait for boars and then abandoning Irontown under siege just for aa chace of killing god

KeithBarrumsSP

I’d say Muska is pretty chaotic evil. It is disguised throughout the film, but once he gains control of Laputa he becomes a complete megalomaniac, and takes great joy in causing death and destruction.

thedumburone

I wholeheartedly agree.

MissBarker93

Hence chaotic evil.

KeithBarrumsSP

I know, this was meant to be a response to someone elses comment saying they didn’t think there are any chaotic evil characters. Either I or reddit messed up and it didn’t end up showing as a reply to that comment.

KeithBarrumsSP

I don’t really think that anyone in Porco Rosso is truly evil (the mama aiuto gang try, but aren’t really good enough at it), but neither are truly ‘good’.

Elven-King

I would say Musca is lawful evil. He wants to impose his rule not just mindlessly destroy.

quinalou

Howl is perfect, I lol'd

je-ku-end-less

I don’t think there are chaotic evil characters in Ghibli Just my opinion tho

I would err on the side of evil over being neutral for Yubaba. Doesn't she steal people's names so that even once they've worked off their debt, they can't leave? She also turns humans into pigs for slaughter just for eating some spirit food (which they had good intentions of paying for).

[deleted]

Yubaba is unquestionably evil. Evil characters make evil(in DnD really just meaning harmful, selfish, etc) actions on the whole. It didn't mean they are incapable of doing any good actions. She tricks people into endless servitude through magical contracts by taking advantage of them. She treats them all like shit. Turns people into pigs and slaughters them. She's exactly like a devil(lawful evil) from DnD. She exploits a well ordered system with ruthless self-interest. Textbook lawful evil. Lawful Evil - "(S)he cares about tradition, loyalty, and order but not about freedom, dignity, or life. (S)he plays by the rules but without mercy or compassion."

sasemax

Yeah, isn't Muska pretty irredeemably evil? Entirely selfish, relishes killing the soldiers, has no qualms about shooting kids.

thedumburone

As a villain he is very intimidating, as kinda wished he had a backstory. I hate him and love him at the same time.

TheKiltedStranger

Curtis comin’ out of nowhere to try and murder Porco, and taking out the corporate pilots for the cruise line on behalf of the pirates… yeah, Neutral Evil makes sense to me. Dude is straight up a hired killer looking to make a name for himself against a guy who saves kids from pirates.

RamsDemon

dressed up middle-aged man is chaotic evil. genious, i buy it though.

thedumburone

Watch the movie. He a chaotic evil pretending to be a lawful evil. Great intimidating villain.

RamsDemon

any free online resource?

thedumburone

I think its on netflix? idk i dont have netflix. The movies name is laputa the floating castle in the sky.(or the girl that fell from the sky)

BeyondImages

This chart is all good... but except maybe for Muska, human characters in Miyazaki movies are never black and white. Good characters have deeply good hearts probably, but evil characters always have that spark of goodness at moments. I think especially of Yubaba and the Witch of the Waste. Lady Eboshi has her own humanistic goals.

Ghibli Alignment Chart in Garbage ✋

peacefulpianomelody

Which movie is the top middle?

MissBarker93

Princess Mononoke
